JOHN H. SHANNON SR., 69, of Bloomfield
JOHN H. SHANNON SR., 69, of Bloomfield, whose sons live in OCEAN AND MONMOUTH COUNTIES, died Wednesday at Wayne General Hospital. He retired in 1993 as chief cable splicer with Public Service Electric and Gas Co., Irvington, after 40 years of service. He instituted the child watch program for PSE&G. He was vice president of New Jersey State AFL-CIO, a former president of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1335, a shop steward from 1958 to 1963, a former vice president of the New Jersey AFL-CIO and vice president of the Essex and West Hudson Labor Council. He was a member of Bloomfield Knights of Columbus 1178, a fourth degree knight of St. Isaac Joques of Montclair, and a member of the Bloomfield Elks and the Bloomfield Irishman's Association. He was a member the Holy Name Society of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Bloomfield. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. Born in Bayonne, he lived in Jersey City before moving to Bloomfield 48 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Klein Shannon; four sons and daughters-in-law, John H. Jr. and Barbara of Berkeley Heights, Mark F. and Kathleen of Reeders, Pa., Timothy P. and Blanca "Doris" of Howell, and Michael J. and Diane of Toms River; a daughter, Maura A. of Bloomfield; a brother, Francis Shannon of Willingboro; 12 grandchildren, Meghan, James, Ryan, Terence, Deirdre, Allison, Jenifer, Jessie, John III, Elizabeth, Josie and Michael; and four nieces, Cathy DePrisco of Bloomfield, and Kathleen Wilson, Colleen Hopkins and Irene Penrod, all of Montana.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today and Sunday at O'Boyle Funeral Home, 309 Broad St., Bloomfield. Relatives and friends are invited to gather 8:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home for a funeral Mass 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Bloomfield. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Hospice of New Jersey.

NETTIE GRUND GOCH, 83, of Coconut Creek, Fla.
NETTIE GRUND GOCH, 83, of Coconut Creek, Fla., formerly of LAKEWOOD, died yesterday at North Broward Medical Center, Pompano Beach, Fla. She was a sales person for Sunnyside Candies Inc., Brooklyn, from 1962 to 1981. She was a member of Congregation Sons of Israel, Lakewood, the Wynmoor Village Snowbird Club, and the American Red Mogen David. Born in New York, she lived in Lakewood and in Brooklyn before moving to Florida a year ago.
Surviving are her husband, Samuel; a son, Tobias Kenneth of Brooklyn; a daughter, Sylvia Ann Gordon of Ann Arbor, Mich.; a sister, Phoebe Heisler; and five grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Sunday in Mount Sinai Cemetery, Lakewood. Memorial donations may be made to Congregation Sons of Israel, Lakewood. Belkoff-Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Lakewood, is in charge of arrangements.

JOHN JOSEPH WOLCHKO, 59, of Spencer, Va.
JOHN JOSEPH WOLCHKO, 59, of Spencer, Va., whose relatives live in BRICK, died Wednesday at Me-morial Hospital of Martinsville, Va. He was a computer field technician with NCR, and later was a jeweler by trade. He was born in Jersey City.
Surviving are his wife, Merrily Stevens Wolchko; a son, John F. Wolchko of Martinsville, Va.; a daughter, Jeanette Wolchko of Spen-cer, Va.; two brothers, Joe Wolchko of Edison, and Paul Wolchko of Brick; a sister, Maureen W. Mitchell of Brick; and three grandchildren, Frank and Chloe Wolchko, and Megan Tomliso.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at Christ Episcopal Church, the Rev. Gene Anderson officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Memorial and Tribute Gifts, National Wildlife Federation, 8925 Leesburg Pike, Vienna, VA 22184. Norris Funeral Service, Martinsville, is in charge of arrangements.

SIDNEY BLITZ, AGE 87, FRANKLIN
Sidney Blitz died Thursday at the Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged, Somerset section of Franklin. He was 87.
He was born in The Bronx, N.Y., and had lived in the Woodhaven section of Queens, N.Y., for 44 years before becoming a resident of the seniors home in Franklin.
He was principal of Public School 158 in New York City before retiring.
His wife, Mildred, is deceased.
Surviving are a son, Mark of Upland, Calif.; a daughter, Andrea Rosenberg of East Brunswick, and six grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Beth Israel Cemetery, Route 1, Woodbridge. Arrangements are by the I.J. Morris Funeral Home, Brooklyn, N.Y.

JOHN S. UPSHAW, AGE 81, MANVILLE
John S. Upshaw died Thursday at Harborside Nursing Home, Bridgewater. He was 81.
He was born in Hazleton, Pa., and moved to Manville 47 years ago.
He was a press operator for Johns-Manville for 32 years. He was a member of the Johns-Manville Quarter Century Club.
He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2290, Manville.
He was a communicant of Christ the King R.C. Church, Manville.
He was a member of the Manville Character Club, and Manville Firehouse No. 3.
His wife, Catherine, and a son, Robert, are deceased.
Surviving are two sons, Thomas of Hillsborough and David of Manville; a sister, Mary Upshaw DeBellas of Manville, and five grandsons.
Services will be 8:15 a.m. Monday at the Ketusky Funeral Home, 1310 Brooks Blvd., Manville, followed by a 9 a.m. Mass at Christ the King R.C. Church. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Hillsborough.

MIRIAM STEINBERGER, AGE 74, formerly of HILLSIDE
Miriam Steinberger, an authority on bridge, died yesterday at Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark. She was 74.
She was born in Newark and lived in East Hanover and Hillside before moving to Maplewood in 1996.
Before her retirement, she owned and operated Essex Bridge Center, Livingston. In addition, she co-wrote a primary bridge-instruction textbook that is used as a standard by bridge players. She taught bridge for many years at nursing homes, schools and social clubs.
She was a member of the American Contract Bridge League. She served as secretary for many years for the New Jersey Bridge League.
Surviving are her husband, Emery; a son, Larry of East Brunswick; a daughter, Judy Blutman of Hillside; a sister, Rita Goldman of Cranbury; two brothers, Harold Littman of West Orange and Marty Littman of Boston, and six grandchildren.
Services will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Bernheim-Apter-Goldsticker Suburban Funeral Chapel, 1600 Springfield Ave., Maplewood. Burial will be at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Iselin section of Woodbridge.

JACQUE H. PARROTT, PLAINFIELD
Jacque H. Parrott, an infant, died Tuesday at St. Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick.
Surviving are his parents, John H. Jr. and Tanya T. McAllister of Plainfield; a sister, Qiana D. Hill, at home; a brother, Jaylin, at home; his paternal grandparents, Gail and John Sr. of Plainfield; his maternal grandmother, Katie McAllister of Plainfield; his maternal grandfather, Ralph McAllister of Elizabeth, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at King's Temple Ministries, 121-23 New St., Plainfield. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Arrangements are by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick.

STANLEY GREGORY, AGE 67, LINDEN
Stanley Gregory died Thursday at Union Hospital. He was 87.
He was born in Linden and had lived in Elizabeth before returning to Linden in 1958.
He retired in 1976 after 38 years as an electrician for Exxon Bayway Refinery, Linden.
His wife, the former Alice Waskis, is deceased.
Surviving are a son, Edward S. of Linden; a daughter, Elizabeth Gregory of Delray Beach, Fla., and two sisters, Tillie Badalis of Rahway and Stella Haber of Linden.
Private services will be by the Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home, 2124 E. St. Georges Ave., Linden.

HELEN S. BROWN, AGE 87, FRANKLIN
Helen S. Brown died Thursday at the Parker Home in New Brunswick. She was 87.
She was a lifelong resident of the Somerset section of Franklin.
She retired in 1977 after 35 years as a chemical technician for E.R. Squibb, North Brunswick.
Surviving are her dear friends, Marion and Raymond Roth of Somerset, and a cousin.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St., Somerset. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Middlebush section of Franklin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Jersey chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, P.O. Box 5273, Kendall Park, NJ 08824.

ROBERT SHERMAN SR., AGE 65, ABERDEEN
Robert J. Sherman Sr. died Thursday at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. He was 65.
He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in Berkeley before moving to Aberdeen 32 years ago.
He retired in 1996 after 43 years as a production-control manager with CBS Television in New York. He also was the director of finance for special events, including national conventions and Apollo landings.
He was a communicant of St. Benedict's R.C. Church in Holmdel.
He was an Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, the former Trudy Durner; three daughters, Dorann, Jeanine and Nicole Keating, all of Matawan; a son, Robert Jr. of Matawan; a sister, Maryann Struthers of Ocean City; a brother, Jack of Brooklyn, and a grandson.
Mass will be offered 9 a.m. Monday at St. Benedict's R.C. Church, Holmdel. Burial will be at Holmdel Cemetery.
