GLORIA WACK JAMESON-BENDER, 78, of MANCHESTER
GLORIA WACK JAMESON-BENDER, 78, of MANCHESTER, died Saturday, April 17, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Point Pleasant Beach, she moved to Tinton Falls in the late 1950s and lived in Manchester since the mid 1980s. She devoted most of her working life to the U.S. government, retiring from her almost 20-year position as supervising director of central appointments at the Patterson Army Hospital, Fort Monmouth, Eatontown.
She was predeceased by a son, Robert N. Jameson Jr.; her first husband, Robert N. Jameson Sr.; her second husband, King Bender; and her sister, Andrea Desarno. Surviving are two sons, Richard Jameson of Merrimack, N.H., Paul Jameson and his wife, Carol, of Eatontown; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Jameson; grandchildren, Tamsyn, Morgan, Katie, Erik and Kelli; and many friends and neighbors.
Services and interment will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of Braun Funeral Home in Eatontown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to either the ASPCA Membership or Donor Services, 424 East 92nd St., 4th Floor, New York, NY, 10128; or the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, NJ, 07702.

JAMES HARKIN, 86, of BRICK
JAMES HARKIN, 86, of BRICK, died Saturday, April 17, at home. He was a member of Local 68 IUOE and employed as a machinist by Federal Pacific Electric, Newark, and later by East Orange General Hospital. He retired in 1987 and relocated to Brick in 1996. He was a member of the Irish Americans of North Newark, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, St. Michael's Church Holy Name Society, St. Michael's Bowling League, and the Giblin Association, and was a communicant of St. Dominic's Church, Brick. Born in Ballyboe Cloghan, County Donegal, Ireland, he came to the United States in 1949. He was educated in Ireland and resided in Newark for 47 years.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Harkin; two sisters, Catherine and Mary; and four brothers, Roger, John, Joseph and Patrick. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Bridget "Bridie" Kennedy Harkin; five daughters, Mary Bridget Harkin, JoAnn Perna, Kathleen Sheridan, Margaret Pisco and Alice Harkin; and seven grandchildren, Tracey Lynn, Ricky, Deirdre, Patrick, Jamie, Frank and Cassidy.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Paul A. McDonough Funeral Home, 304 Eighth Ave., Belmar. Relatives and friends will gather at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9 a.m. at St. Dominic's Church. Interment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Lakewood. JAMES J. MARTIN, 71, of TOMS RIVER
JAMES J. MARTIN, 71, of TOMS RIVER, died Sunday, April 18, at home. He was a social studies teacher and assistant football coach at Neptune High School before retiring. Before that, he taught and was an assistant football coach at Bayonne High School, Bayonne. He was a Korean War veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Toms River, and a member of the Toms River Country Club. He was a former member of the Bayonne Knights of Columbus. He was an avid golfer and loved to travel. Born in Jersey City, he grew up in Bayonne and moved to Toms River in 1966.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Ellen M.; a son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Kathy Martin of East Windsor; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Phillip Calabro of Newtown, Pa.; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Richard Kochanski of Barnegat; four grandchildren, Connor and Riley Martin, and Kaitlin and Ryan Calabro; a nephew, Steven Kochanski and his wife, Maria, of Bloomfield; and two great-nephews, Tyler and Dustin Kochanski.
A memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, Toms River. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Society of P.S.P. or Juvenile Diabetes. Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, Toms River, is in charge of arrangements.

MILDRED ANNA PARDUE, of LAKEWOOD, died Friday, April 16, at home after a long illness. She was a home health aide for more than 25 years and a communicant of St. Mary of the Lake Roman Catholic Church.
She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Adia Campbell. Surviving are a son, William E.; daughters, Patricia, Elizabeth, Gail and Mary; two brothers, Thomas E. and Martin W. Meredith; a sister, Janice E. Pennstrom; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
A memorial Mass will be offered at noon Thursday at St. Mary of the Lake Church, Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, NAMI or Meridian Hospice. Aaron Cremation Associates, Whiting, is in charge of arrangements.

STEPHEN A. MC VEY, 61, of BRICK, died Friday, April 16, at Laurelton Village Nursing Home, Brick. He was a manager and assistant vice president of Sovereign Bank in Brick for 40 years. He was a trustee of Briar Mills, Brick, the Chamber of Commerce in Brick and the Exchange Club of Brick. Born in Long Branch, he lived in Ocean Township before moving to Brick 30 years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Nolan; a son and daughter-in-law, Sean and Jennifer McVey of Langhorn, Pa.; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Jimmy Richard of New Hampshire; two grandchildren, Connor and Christopher; three brothers-in-law and their spouses, Michael and Connie of Spring Lake, James and Elaine of Holmdel and Dennis and Maryann of Toms River; and many nieces and nephews.

THOMAS V. HAYES JR., 61, of Whiting, MANCHESTER, died Saturday, April 17, at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was employed as a chef most of his life. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Bamber Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10118, Bamber Lake. He was a member of the Pioneers Club, Lakeshore Lodge, Residents Association and Safety Patrol of Pine Ridge, Whiting. He was the master of his cat, Tippy, and his late dog, Lady. Born in New York City, he lived in River Edge, Hackensack and Middletown before moving to Pine Ridge, Whiting, Manchester, in 2001.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Goodline Hayes; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Doris Hayes of East Greenwich, R.I.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Rita and Thomas Gannon of River Edge, Ellen and James Grooms of Cammilus, N.Y., and Elizabeth and James Conway of River Edge; godchildren, John Gannon of Basking Ridge and Donna Hayes of East Greenwich, R.I.; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and his best friend and his wife, Jack and Karen Primm of Fort Myers, Fla.

WILLIAM E. THOMPSEN SR., 83, of Whiting, MANCHESTER
WILLIAM E. THOMPSEN SR., 83, of Whiting, MANCHESTER, died Saturday, April 17, aboard the Century Cruise liner of the Celebrity Cruise Lines. He was employed as a lieutenant on the New York City Police Department for 22 years before retiring in 1977. Born in Brooklyn, he moved to Crestwood Village VI, Whiting, in 1985.
He was predeceased by his son, William E. Thompsen Jr., in 2002. Surviving are his wife, Florence Luhmann Thompsen; a daughter and son-in-law, Gloria and Frank Clausen of Mendham; a brother, Torkil of Norway; three grandchildren, Jennifer Loftus and Randi Clausen of Los Angeles, and Craig Clausen of Mendham.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Carmona-Bolen Home for Funerals, 66 Lacey Road, Whiting. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

Cecilia K. McCarty, 87, active in community work
BERNARDSVILLE -- Cecilia K. (Corcoran) McCarty died on Saturday (April 17, 2004) at Morristown Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was 87.
She was born in Cedar Rapids, Neb., on Feb. 25, 1917, to David Corcoran and Catherine (Lohoff).
She graduated from Aurora High School in Aurora, Neb., in 1934, then attended the Lincoln School of Commerce in Lincoln, Neb., and then graduated from the Barbizon School of Fashion Modeling in New York City in 1943.
She married Winfred A. McCarty in 1934 in Kansas. She was a resident of Basking Ridge since 1954 and one of the original residents of Homestead Village, where she and her husband did much of the hands-on work in construction of their home.
She was active in community work and in St. James Parish in Basking Ridge, where she produced annual fashion shows for parish fund-raising for seven years during the 1960's. She also designed sets, trained models and was master of ceremonies.
Her husband, Winfred A. McCarty, died in 1989. Her brothers, Leo, Martin and Francis Corcoran and her sister, Henrietta (Louis) Quinlan, all died previously.
Survivors include her son, Richard L. and his wife, Beverly McCarty, of Anthem, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Michael McCarty, Partrick McCarty, Donald McCarty, Michelle McCarthy and Melissa McGarry; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Maryjean (Carl) Lyon of Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Church in Basking Ridge. Interment will be 10 a.m. Friday at Aurora Cemetery in Aurora, Neb.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finely Ave., Basking Ridge.
Visitation will also be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary, 1404 L St., Aurora, Neb.

Eudokia Zacharowsky, 90, native of Russia
SOMERSET -- Eudokia Zacharowsky died Sunday (April 18, 2004) at her residence. She was 90. Mrs. Zacharowsky was born in Russia. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1950. She lived in Bristol, Pa., prior to moving to Somerset in 1958.
Mrs. Zacharowsky was a member of the Holy Virgin Protection Russian Orthodox Church in New Brunswick, where she was a member of the sisterhood. She was also involved in the sisterhood of Holy Assumption Russian Orthodox Church in Trenton.
Mrs. Zacharowsky was predeceased by her husband, Nikifor, in 1997; her son, Nicholas, in 1974; and a great-grandson, Victor III, in 2000.
Mrs. Zacharowsky is survived by her two sons, Walter Zacharowsky and his wife, Leanna, of Somerset and William Zacharowsky and his wife, Kathy, of Somerset; a daughter, Nina Tarken and her husband, Victor, of Robbinsville; a sister, Paulina of Russia; four grandchildren, Victor Jr., Natacha, Lisa and Daniel; and a great-granddaughter, Alexa.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vladimir Memorial Russian Orthodox Church, 132 Perrineville Road, Jackson. Interment will follow at St. Vladimir Russian Orthodox cemetery in Jackson.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church with a 7 p.m. Panachida service.

Jacqueline Arrington, 60, social worker
HILLSBOROUGH -- Jacqueline Johnson Arrington died Saturday (April 17, 2004) at home in Hillsborough.
Born in Baltimore, Md., she grew up in Waxhaw, N.C. She resided in Somerset more than 30 years ago before moving here.
She was employed as a social worker for the Metuchen Board of Education for 24 years and formerly worked for the Middlesex County Board of Social Services.
She was a member of the Phi Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., National Association of Black Social Workers, National Association of Social Workers, Women's Investment Network and Weidel Realtors.
A member of the First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset, she served on the usher board.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wharton Howard Arrington.
Survivors include two daughters, Leshaun and Gayle; three grandchildren, Brianna, Sierra and Vaughn; three sisters, Marie, Sarah and Cynthia; and many other family members.
Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens, 771 Somerset St., Somerset. Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Franklin Memorial Park, North Brunswick. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service, New Brunswick.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
