Esther Trome, 81
Esther Trome, 81, of Westfield died on Tuesday, January 18, 2000 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Hillside and Irvington before moving to Westfield 20 years ago.
Mrs. Trome was a member of the Newark Asthmatic League, the Ladies Auxiliary Knights of Pythias in Newark and Deborah Hospital of Browns Mills.
Surviving are a son, Joel Trome; a sister, Bessie Turkowitz, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, January 19, in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.

Anna Belle McCoy, 70
Was Honored By St. John’s Baptist Church Last Year
Anna Belle “Mama Mitty” McCoy, 70, a lifelong resident of Scotch Plains, died on Monday, January 17, 2000 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Mrs. McCoy was a parishioner of St. John’s Baptist Church in Scotch Plains, where she was a charter member of the credit union, a member of the Pastor’s Aide Auxiliary and a former member of the Gospel Chorus.
She was honored as a senior citizen by the church in 1999.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Wilford Boykin and Edward Boykin.
Surviving are six sons, Warren McCoy of Piscataway and David McCoy of Belleville and Alton McCoy, Calvin McCoy, Ralph McCoy and James McCoy, all of Scotch Plains; three daughters, Chaunelle McCoy of Roselle, May Chaney and Cheryl McCoy, both of Scotch Plains; two brothers, William Boykin of Scotch Plains and Marion Boykin, Jr. of Plainfield; a sister, Ella A. Coles of Scotch Plains; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, January 21, at St. John’s Baptist Church in Scotch Plains, with the Reverend Kelmo C. Porter officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, January 20, at the church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown’s Funeral Home in Plainfield.

Blanche J. Novitt, 92
Blanche J. Novitt, 92, of Toms River died on Wednesday, January 12, 2000 in the Kensington Manor Care Center in Toms River.
Born in Elizabeth, she had lived in Toms River since 1985.
Mrs. Novitt was a member of the Antique Car Club of America and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks Lodge in Elizabeth.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Novitt, in August of 1994.
Surviving are a son, George Novitt; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial service will be held at a later date under the direction of the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.

Catherine Guthrie Walker, 40
Attorney; Had Attended Schools in Westfield
Catherine Guthrie Walker, 40, of Memphis, Tenn., an attorney and former Westfield resident, died on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 at her home.
Born in Ashville, N. C., she had lived in Westfield and was educated through the local school system, graduating in 1977.
She had lived in Memphis for 15 years.
Mrs. Walker was a staff attorney with Memphis Area Legal Services, Inc. in Memphis.
Prior to that, she had been Assistant Director of Admissions for the Kansas City Institute of Art in Kansas City, Kan., for several years.
She graduated from the Philadelphia College of Art, the University of Delaware at Newark and the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law at the University of Memphis.
Surviving are her husband, Russell H. Walker; her mother, Edna G. Guthrie of Plainfield; a sister, Jennifer G. Winschel of Trumbull, Conn.; a brother, Thomas G. Guthrie of Plainfield, and her grandmother, Josephine E. Grainger of Laurens, S.C.
Services were held on Monday, January 3, in the Calvary Episcopal Church in Memphis, with interment in Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis.
Arrangements were under the direction of Canale Funeral Directors in Memphis.
Memorial donations may be sent to a charity of the individual’s choice.

Joseph Cunnane, 71
Borden’s Retiree; Decorated Veteran of World War II
Joseph Cunnane, 71, of Monroe Township died on Tuesday, January 18, 2000 in the Gibbons Nursing Home in Monroe Township.
Born in Newark, he had lived in East Orange, Westfield, Point Pleasant and Avenel before moving to Monroe Township.
Mr. Cunnane had been a delivery man for Borden’s Dairy of Newark for many years before retiring.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and received the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupational Medal.
Surviving are a brother, Donald Cunnane, and a sister, Margaret Batty.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Friday, January 21, in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Iselin.
Arrangements are being handled by the Thomas J. Costello Funeral Home in Iselin.

Harriette Lewis, 92
Harriette Lewis, 92, of Piscataway died on Friday, December 17, 1999 at the Greenbrook Manor Nursing Home in Green Brook.
Born in Scotch Plains, she had lived in Plainfield before moving to Piscataway 12 years ago.
Miss Lewis was a Realtor and worked most recently as a Leasing Agent at Pleasantview Gardens in Piscataway.
She was a member of the Older Women’s League and the Business and Professional Woman’s Association in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are a sister, Helen Lindsay of Fanwood; a niece, Barbara Russell of Williamsport, Pa. and a nephew, Charles Lindsay of Downingtown, Pa.
A memorial service was held yesterday, Wednesday, December 22, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
Memorial donations may be made to the Fanwood Volunteer Rescue Squad, 218 Forest Road, Fanwood, 07023 or to the Special Olympics.

Leo J. Losi, 85
Leo J. Losi, 85, of Lakewood died on Wednesday, December 15, 1999 in the Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood.
Born in New York, he had lived in Westfield before moving to Lakewood two months ago.
Mr. Losi had been a machinist for Nirol Manufacturing in North Plainfield for 20 years before retiring in 1979.
He served in the United States Marines during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Storr Richie Post No. 506 in North Plainfield.
Surviving are his wife, Rose M. Losi; a son, Robert Losi; a daughter, Judith A. Jordan; two sisters, Mary Mezey and Agnes Consodori, and five grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Monday, December 20, in the Visitation Church in Brick, following the funeral from the D’Elia Funeral Home in Lakewood.
