Joseph Grausam, 82
Decorated Veteran; Pro-Baseball Player Owned Tire Shop
Joseph C. Grausam, 82, of Westfield died on Thursday, March 4, 1999 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania, he moved to Westfield in 1955.
Mr. Grausam had been employed as a tool and die maker at Lu-Max in Springfield for many years before retiring in 1980.
He had previously been an inspector at Breeze Aircraft Corporation in Union for seven years, and also owned and operated a tire shop in Newark.
Mr. Grausam was signed by the New York Giants baseball team in 1942, and during spring training with the team was coached by Babe Ruth. He left baseball to serve in the military during World War II.
A Technical Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corps during the war, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Lane Grausam.
Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Grausam and Susan Bullock; two sons, Michael Grausam and Robert Grausam; a sister, Mary Specht, and seven grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Monday, March 8, in the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Interment took place in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.

Angeline Caspanello, 74
Angeline M. Caspanello, 74, of Hollywood, Florida died on Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.
She had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Hollywood 40 years ago.
Mrs. Caspanello was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Nativity Catholic Church and an officer of the Nativity Ladies Guild.
Mrs. Caspanello also was a volunteer for Knights of Columbus No. 4851 of Hollywood.
Surviving are her husband, John V. Caspanello; a son, John Caspanello, Jr. of Lauderhill, Florida; two daughters, Donna Claussen of Hollywood and Renee Hearn of Pembroke Pines, Florida; three sisters, Rose Greco, Helen Pellinger and Clara Manna, all of New Jersey, and six grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by the Panciera Memorial Home in Hollywood.
Morris Kornblatt, 74
Naval SeaBee; Former Executive At Maidenform, Inc.
Morris Kornblatt, 74, of Somerset died at the Central New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged in Somerset.
Born in the Bronx, he had lived in Westfield from 1956 to 1995.
Mr. Kornblatt was the Vice President of Marketing Management with Maidenform, Inc. for 37 years before retiring in 1988.
He received an undergraduate degree from the City College of New York and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University in 1948. He also completed course work for a Doctor of Philosophy at New York University’s Graduate School of Business Administration.
He served as a SeaBee in the South Pacific during World War II.
He was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Irene Kornblatt, in 1985.
Surviving are his daughter, Miriam Kornblatt and his son, Joshua Kornblatt of Portland, Oregon.
Graveside services were held on March 1, 1999 at B’nai Abraham Memorial Park in Union.
Arrangements were handled by Kreitzman’s Memorial Home in Elizabeth with Rabbi Shawn Zell.

Vincent J. Fabricatore, 73
Employed For Many Years as Chemical Engineer
Vincent J. Fabricatore, 73, of Westfield died on Saturday, March 6, 1999 at home.
Born in Elizabeth, he moved to the Middle East in 1948, where he worked until coming to Westfield in 1958.
Mr. Fabricatore had been a Petro Chemical Engineer for Charles Martin Company in New York City for 40 years.
He was later employed by SGS Control Services in Carteret for 17 years before retiring in 1992.
He also lectured for companies on the petroleum industry.
He was a member of the American Society of Tests and Measures.
Mr. Fabricatore graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth.
Surviving are his wife, Rosetta Fabricatore; a son, Frank Haigh of Florida; three daughters, Simone Barrett of Pennsylvania, Vera Morrison and Geri Fabricatore, both of Florida; a brother, Joseph Fabricatore of Bass River; two sisters, Della Zuzuro of Toms River and Ann Slifer of Florida, and 13 grandchildren.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held today, Thursday, March 11, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Interment will be private.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.
Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Gemma DiGiovanni
Gemma Polizio DiGiovanni of Westfield died on Thursday, March 4, 1999 at the Ashbrook Nursing Home in Scotch Plains.
Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Westfield for many years.
Mrs. DiGiovanni was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband, Frank DiGiovanni; a daughter, Barbara DeGennaro; a son, Frank DiGiovanni, Jr.; two sisters, Ida Pitre and Gilda DeLena, and five grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Saturday, March 6, in St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.

Gloria F. Alayeto
Former Volunteer; For Red Cross; Honorary Life Member
Gloria F. Alayeto of Westfield died on Thursday, March 4, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Panama, she emigrated to the United States and settled in Westfield in 1961.
Mrs. Alayeto was an active volunteer for the Westfield-Mountainside Chapter of the American Red Cross. She was also a board member of the chapter for 33 years. In 1992, she was awarded the title of Honorary Life Member of the American Red Cross.
She was honored as the first woman executive of the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Panama.
Surviving are her husband, George Alayeto; a son, Dr. Nelson Trujillo of Chevy Chase, Maryland; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Liturgy was held on Monday, March 8, at the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield. Interment took place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Marion E. Lawery, 81
Marion E. Lawery, 81, a lifelong resident of Westfield, died on Friday, March 5, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
A 1942 graduate of the Franklin School of Nursing in Newark, Mrs. Lawery had been employed in the medical profession for 10 years before retiring.
She was a member of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield for many years.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Lawery, in 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy L. Lawery of Hillsborough; a brother, Alfred G. Edge of Hawaii, and a sister, Katherine Woodbury of Scotch Plains.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday, March 12, at 11 a.m. at the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westfield Rescue Squad, 335 Watterson Street in Westfield.
