Gilbert R. Bohlin, 71
Worked for RCA; Veteran and Controller for Magazine
Gilbert R. Bohlin, 71, of Lancaster, Pa. died on Sunday, April 9, 2000 at Lancaster General Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, the son of William O. and Hope Ferguson Bohlin, he had lived in Lancaster and in Westfield from 1969 to 1995.
He returned to Lancaster after his retirement in 1995.
Mr. Bohlin had been employed with the RCA Corporation from 1956 to 1987, both in Lancaster and in New York City.
He retired from the company in 1987 as Director, Financial Analysis, Corporate Staff.
He was also associated with Conde Nast Publications in New York City, serving as Controller of Details magazine from 1988 to 1991.
Mr. Bohlin graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1946 and from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. in 1950.
He was a brother in the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity.
He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict, during which time he was stationed in London, England.
He was an active member of the Lancaster Northeast Rotary until last year.
Surviving are his wife, Lois T. Bohlin, with whom he would have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary in September; four daughters, Elaine Sullivan of Rockwall, Tex., LeAnn Hopper of New York City, Diana Mahoney of Orlando, Fla. and Barbara Rummel of Newtown, Pa.; a brother, William F. Bohlin of Garden City, N.Y., and eight grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow, Friday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 140 East Orange Street in Lancaster, Pa.
A gathering will immediately follow the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, Pa. 17604-4125.
Arrangements are being handled by the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home in Lancaster.
Susan Sevell Smith, 39
Businesswoman At Windsor Auto Glass-Sevell’s Auto Body
Susan Sevell Smith, 39, of Scotch Plains died on Thursday, March 4, 1999 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Clark, she lived in Scotch Plains for many years.
Mrs. Smith was in business with her father, Norman Sevell, at Windsor Auto Glass-Sevell’s Auto Body Company in Westfield for the past 21 years.
She also worked with animals on her father’s farm, the Ponderosa, in Scotch Plains.
Mrs. Smith attended public schools in Clark and graduated from Newark Academy.
Surviving are her husband, Andrew Smith; her parents, Norman “Dutch” Sevell and Marie Sevell of Scotch Plains; three sisters, Christine Soreth and Kathy Sevell, both of Scotch Plains, and Donna Sevell Leber of Cranford; two brothers, Gene Sevell of Cranford and Michael Sevell of Whitehouse Station.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 8, at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield, followed by a Mass at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.

Stephanie Schwartz, 95
Housekeeper; Was Assembler at Western Electric
Stephanie Schwartz, 95, of Scotch Plains died on Thursday, March 4, 1999 at the Ashbrook Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotch Plains.
Born in Austria, she had lived in Maspeth, New York before moving to Scotch Plains six years ago.
Mrs. Schwartz had been a housekeeper for 20 years before retiring.
Previously, she had worked as an assembler for Western Electric for many years.
She had worked before that as a meat packer for Bohack Company in New York for 19 years.
She was a member of the Meat Packers Union of New York.
Surviving are a daughter, Ruth Murphy; a sister, Veronica Sterbenz; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was offered on Monday, March 8, in St. John Vianney Roman Catholic Church in Colonia.
Arrangements were handled by the Thomas J. Costello Funeral Home in Iselin.
Tilden Jones, Jr., 53
Developed Video On Achievements of African-Americans
Tilden Jones, Jr. 53, of Union died on Saturday, February 27, 1999 in Union Memorial Hospital.
Born in Charlottesville, Virginia, Mr. Jones relocated to Linden with his family in 1947 and recently moved to Union.
He had worked in computer technology at AT&T; and was employed by Dun & Bradstreet in Berkeley Heights from the mid-1980s to 1995.
Mr. Jones, who extensively researched the scientific and technological achievements of African-Americans, created a 45-minute video presentation about these inventors which he presented at libraries, schools and businesses.
He was a member of the Union Baptist Church in Elizabeth, where he was active in its male chorus, usher board, Sunday School and youth advisory board.
He graduated from Linden High School and attended Union County College.
Mr. Jones served for four years in the United States Air Force, and later with the Air Force Reserve.
Surviving are his wife, Jessie Ward Jones; two sons, Tilden Jones, 3rd of Scotch Plains and Shawn Jones of Union; a daughter, Tamaysha Jones of Scotch Plains; his mother, Geraldine Jones of Linden; a brother, Ernest Jones of New York City, and a sister, Cynthia Jones of Willingboro.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 4, in the Union Baptist Church. Interment followed in Rosehill Cemetery in Linden.
Arrangements were handled by the Nesbitt Funeral Home in Elizabeth.
Mattie M. Gottie
Mattie M. Gottie of Scotch Plains died Friday, March 5, 1999 at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
Born in Omaka, Georgia, she had lived in East Orange before moving to Scotch Plains over 30 years ago.
Mrs. Gottie was a 50-year member of the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Newark and a member of the church’s Sunday School Class No. 5 and the Floral Club. She was also a member of the Scotch Plains Senior Citizens.
She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Gottie, in 1959.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth Jenkins of Scotch Plains, and a granddaughter, Linda Jenkins, also of Scotch Plains.
A Funeral Service will be held today, Thursday, March 11, at 11 a.m. at the Zion Hill Baptist Church, 153 Osborne Terrace, Newark, Entombment will be held at Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 101 Eisenhower Parkway, Roseland, 07068.
Arrangements were being handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood.
James Price, Jr., 57
Managing Director At Chubb & Son, Inc. for 30 Years
James E. Price, Jr., 57, of Mountainside died on Sunday, March 7, 1999 at home.
Born in Staten Island, he moved to Mountainside in 1979.
Mr. Price had been Managing Director of Chubb & Son, Inc. in Warren for 30 years before retiring in 1996.
He was active in the Little League and with Boy Scout and Girl Scout softball teams, all in Mountainside.
Mr. Price received a bachelor’s degree in economics with minors in philosophy and English from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City.
Surviving are two sons, James Price and Michael Price; two daughters, Kathleen Colline and Jennifer Lynch, and two grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be offered today, Thursday, March 11, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Mountainside.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Funeral Home in Cranford, 218 North Avenue, West in Cranford.
Fay Panster
Fay Panster of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, March 6, 1999 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Russia, she had lived in Canada, New York City, Westfield, and Coconut Creek, Florida before moving to Scotch Plains last year.
Mrs. Panster had been a bookkeeper for Merrill Lynch in New York City for 27 years before retiring in 1983.
Surviving are a son, Howard A. Panster; a brother, Louie Napach; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 8, in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
