Leola Howard, 67
Leola Howard, 67, of the Westfield and Plainfield area, died on Friday, April 30, 1999 in Plainfield.
Born in Durham, North Carolina, she had lived in Westfield and Plainfield.
Mrs. Howard was a domestic for many private families.
She was predeceased by three sisters, all of North Carolina.
Surviving are her husband of over 30 years, Sam Howard; and a brother, Buddy Wilson of North Carolina.
Arrangements were handled by Plinton Curry Funeral Home.

Ardena S. Bryant, 85
Nursing Assistant At Muhlenberg Hospital For Many Years
Ardena Staton Bryant, 85, of Plainfield died on Tuesday, May 4, 1999 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, she lived in Plainfield for 60 years.
Mrs. Bryant worked in Muhlenberg Hospital’s nursing department for 25 years before retiring in 1979 as a nursing assistant.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Plainfield for 58 years, where she served as a deaconess, vice president of the Missionary Society, president of the New Members Club, member of the Pastor’s Club, Sunday School Junior Church and the FISH Club, which helped to feed the homeless.
She also was active in local organizations, including the Plainfield YWCA, Fourth Street Block Association, Shut-In Council and The Golden Age Club.
She was predeceased by her husband, James Bryant, Sr., in 1982.
Surviving are four sons, James Bryant, Jr., of Trabuco Canyon, California, Nathaniel and Andrew Bryant, both of Plainfield and Paul Bryant, of Columbia, South Carolina; a daughter, Lena Bryant Crawley, of Scotch Plains; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 8, in Calvary Baptist Church in Plainfield.
Interment was held at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
Arrangements were handled by Brown’s Funeral Home in Plainfield.

Doris Cimbreck, 85
Doris Bade Cimbreck, 85, of Greenville, South Carolina died on Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at Rolling Green Village in Greenville.
Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Westfield before moving to Greenville.
Mrs. Cimbreck had worked for the accounting firm of Lybran Ross Brothers & Montgomery in New York City as a secretary / manager before retiring.
She had also been a secretary for the New York State Society of Accountants.
She had graduated Katherine Gibbs School in New York City.
She was predeceased by her husband, John Cimbreck.
Surviving is a brother, John Bade of Medford, Oregon.
A Funeral Service was held on Friday, May 7, at the Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville.
Arrangements were handled by the Mackey Mortuary in Greenville.

Wilbur E. Ferguson, Jr.
Wilbur E. Ferguson, Jr., 77, of Westfield died on Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Bronxville, New York, he had lived in Westfield since 1937.
Mr. Ferguson had worked in the Wigton-Aboot Company of Plainfield as an Art Director for 30 years, retiring in 1984.
He served in the United States Air Force in North Africa and Italy during World War II.
Surviving are his brother, Edmond Ferguson of Fanwood, and three nephews.
Funeral services were private.
Arrangements were handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield.

Helen Wolfe, 71
Former Secretary At Cosmair, Inc. For 18 Years
Helen F. Wolfe, 71, of Homestead, Florida, died on Monday, May 3, 1999 in Baptist Hospital in Homestead.
Born in Newark, she had resided in Westfield for 37 years before moving to Homestead in 1986.
She had been a secretary at Cosmair, Inc. in Clark until her retirement in 1986.
Surviving are her husband of 50 years, William J. Wolfe; her mother, Mary Kowaleski of Homestead; a daughter, Kathleen Prisbell of Barnegat, a son, William M. Wolfe of Cumberland, Rhode Island; two sisters, Lorraine Kwasek of Westfield and Dorothy Wall of Bayville; a brother, Stanley Kowalewski of Middletown, and three grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 22, at 11 a.m. at St. Helen’s Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are being handled by the Branam Funeral Home in Homestead.

George Brown, Jr., 78
George Abraham Brown, Jr., 78, of East Orange died on Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at Orange Memorial Hospital.
Born in Sparta, Georgia, he grew up in Fanwood and attended school in Scotch Plains.
He lived in East Orange for the past 30 years.
Mr. Brown had been employed as a supervisor for the Elizabethtown Gas Company in Elizabeth before retiring in 1982.
Surviving are his wife, Martha P. Brown; a daughter, Marilyn Brown; a brother, Thomas Brown; a sister, Deborah Johnson; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 11, at the Plinton Curry Funeral Home in Westfield.

Frances Garson, 95
Former Teacher With Clifton Board of Education
Frances Garson, 95, of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, May 9, 1999 in the Leisure Chateau Care Center in Lakewood.
Born in Bloomfield, she had lived in Passaic, Bloomfield, West Caldwell and Clifton before moving to Scotch Plains.
Mrs. Garson had been a teacher with the Clifton Board of Education for 40 years before retiring 30 years ago.
She graduated from Barnard College in New York City in 1928 with a teaching degree.
Graveside services were held on Monday, May 10, at the King Solomon Cemetery in Clifton.
