Paul Erdman, 74
Paul Erdman, 74, of Scotch Plains died on Sunday, October 10, 1999 in the Genesis Elder Care center in Westfield.
Born in Pinsk, Poland, he lived in Hillside and Elizabeth before moving to Scotch Plains three years ago.
Mr. Erdman was a proprietor of several businesses in Newark for more than 48 years, including Paul’s Tavern and The Madison Lounge.
Surviving are a daughter, Felice Goldberg; a son, Harvey Erdman; two brothers, George Erdman and Leon Erdman; a sister, Fay Dicker and four grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Tuesday, October 12, in the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Mastapeter Suburban Funeral Home in Roselle Park.
Lawrence A. Miller, 78
Typographer At L.B. Typographers, Scotch Plains
Lawrence A. Miller, 78, of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, October 5, 1999 in Rahway Hospital.
Born in The Bronx, he lived in Scotch Plains for the last 16 years.
Mr. Miller was employed as a typographer at L.B. Typographers in Scotch Plains for eight years, before retiring in 1994.
He had earned a bachelor’s degree in English literature from New York University in 1958.
An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Miller served as a sergeant and took part in the D-Day landing at Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of the Bronze and Silver Stars.
Mr. Miller was a member of the Association of Graphic Artists in New York City.
He was also a member of the Printing Industry of America.
Surviving are his daughter, Robin Miller.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 15, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the United Methodist Church of Cranford.
Arrangements were handled by the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue, Westfield.
Robert H. Vreeland, 74
Was Postal Employee For 42 Years; U.S. Navy Seabee
Robert H. Vreeland, 74, of Parkville, Md. died on Thursday, October 7, 1999 at the Oak Crest Care Center in Parkville.
Born in Union, he lived in Scotch Plains for 46 years before moving to Parkville in 1996.
Mr. Vreeland was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 42 years and served as the Postmaster of Union from 1980 to 1987.
He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are his wife, Adele C. Krueger Vreeland; a son, Robert Vreeland of Parkville; a daughter, Gail Rittman of Pickerington, Ohio; and three grandsons.
A funeral service was held on Monday, October 11, at the Haeberle and Barth Colonial Home in Union.
Interment was held at the Hollywood Memorial Park in Union.
Elizabeth A. Wehrle, 76
Elizabeth Adams Wehrle, 76, of Fanwood died on Friday, October 8, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Altoona, Pa., she lived in Plainfield before moving to Fanwood 47 years ago.
Mrs. Wehrle was a communicant of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are her husband, Thomas O. Wehrle; her son, Steve Wehrle of Fanwood; two daughters, Anne McFrederick of New York City, N.Y. and Janine Wehrle of Fanwood; three brothers, Paul Adams of Battle Ground, Wash., Robert Adams of Altoona and Donald Adams of Waterfall, Pa.; three sisters, Marjorie Adams of Altoona, Shirley Simmers of Stratford and Joanne Riley of Glendale, Calif. and two grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, October 12, at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church in Scotch Plains.
Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood.
Ethel W. Withey, 92
Ethel W. Withey, 92, of Lakewood died on Saturday, October 9, 1999 at The Harrogate Health Care Center in Lakewood.
Born in Trenton, she lived in Westfield for 33 years, before moving to Lakewood seven years ago.
Mrs. Withey was a member of the Women's Club of Westfield.
She was a communicant of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
She was predeceased by her husband, Colonel William W. Withey, in 1977.
Surviving is her daughter, Barbara W. McIntyre of Westfield, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Private arrangements were handled by the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street, Westfield.

Doris A. Mone, 71, Was Employed By Former National Bank in Westfield
Doris A. Angelo Mone, 71, of Dania Beach, Fla., died on Wednesday, October 6, 1999 at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Fla.
Born in Westfield, she moved to Dania Beach in 1983.
Mrs. Mone was employed by Tracey Labor Employment Service in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. for four years, before retiring in 1987.
She had also been employed as a savings teller for the National Bank of Westfield for seven years.
She was a communicant of the Church of the Resurrection in Dania Beach.
She was a former communicant of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Surviving are her husband, Patrick M. Mone; three sons, Gary Mone, Guy Mone, and Patrick Mone; a brother, John Angelo; a sister, Jo DeRosa, and seven grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, October 9, in Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Lillian Hutchinson, 97
Lillian Hutchinson, 97, of Greenwich, Conn., died on Thursday, October 7, 1999 in Greenwich Hospital.
Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Mountainside prior to moving Greenwich 13 years ago.
Mrs. Hutchinson was a member of the Eastern Star of New Jersey Ammanus Chapter No. 183.
She was predeceased by her son, Richard Hutchinson and her husband, Alexander Hutchinson.
Surviving are two daughters, Diane Wearin in Greenwich and Ruth Nilsen of Ft. Myers, Fla.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 12, at the Fred D. Knapp & Son Funeral Home in Greenwich.
Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside.
