Eddie Wright, 75
Guitarist Performed With Top Artists, Recorded Hit Songs
Eddie Wright, 75, of Clark, a guitarist who performed with some of the top musical artists of the 20th century, died on Monday, May 8, 2000 in Rahway Hospital.
Born in Orange, he had lived in Plainfield and East Orange before moving to Clark 10 years ago.
Mr. Wright had been employed by International Telephone and Telegraph for 20 years before retiring in 1992.
A member of the Newark Jazz Orchestra, he performed with fellow musicians at the annual Newark Jazz Festival, including an appearance at the Terrace Ballroom at Symphony Hall.
Known for his musicianship since the 1940s, Mr. Wright played with such luminaries as Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn, Dionne Warwick and Cissy Houston, the mother of pop music star Whitney Houston.
The leader of a musical group which recorded for the Newark-based Savoy Records label in the 1940s, Mr. Wright and his ensemble often had chart-topping hits.
He also recorded for many years on Blue Note, one of the nation’s top jazz labels.
Mr. Wright recorded the album “Mo Greens Please” in the 1960s.
He also performed on the television show “Stairway to the Stars” from Club Caravan in Newark.
He was named “Guitarist of the Year” in New Jersey in 1948.
An elder at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Clark, he was also a lay minister.
He was predeceased three years ago by his mother, Olive, who lived in Mount Vernon, N.Y. and was one of the first female guitarists of her era.
Surviving are his wife, Fannie Wright; four daughters, Shirley Freeman of Plainfield, Roxanne Douglas of East Orange, Camille Douglas of Scotch Plains and Simone Carter of the Avenel section of Woodbridge; four sisters, Olive Force, Barbara Baylock and Beatrice Miller, all of White Plains, N.Y., and Myrtle Willis of Plainfield; a brother, Charles Wright of Plainfield; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, May 13, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Cotton Funeral Service in Orange.
Helen M. Bohannon, 99
Had Worked For Western Electric and Hahne & Co.
Helen M. Bohannon, 99, of Westfield died on Wednesday, May 10, 2000 at home.
Born in Paxton, Ill., she had lived in Elizabeth before relocating to Westfield in 1929.
Mrs. Bohannon had been employed by Western Electric Company in Chicago and in Kearny before moving to Westfield.
She was a homemaker for many years before becoming a saleswoman for Lillian O’Grady’s and Hahne and Company in Westfield.
She was member of the Woman’s Club of Westfield and The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
She was predeceased by her husband, William B. Bohannon, and by a son, Thomas E. Bohannon, both in 1979, and by two stepsons, Robert Bohannon and William M. Bohannon.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Richard A. Bohannon of San Francisco; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Bohannon of Westfield; seven grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service took place on Saturday, May 13, in the Chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.

Paul M. Ginder, 62
Paul M. Ginder, 62, died on Sunday, May 7, 2000 in the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in Elizabeth, Mr. Ginder had lived in Fanwood before moving to South Plainfield in 1978.
Mr. Ginder founded and owned Affordable Appliance Service in South Plainfield.
He served as the Park Superintendent in Fanwood from 1964 to 1978.
Mr. Ginder served in the United States Army during peacetime.
He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 2298 in South Plainfield and the New Jersey Audio Society.
Surviving are his wife, Celeste I. Radnovich Ginder; a son, George Ginder; a daughter, Paula Higgins; a brother, Robert Ginder; a sister, Bernice Osborne, and four grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Wednesday, May 10, in the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in South Plainfield, following the funeral from the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.

Helmut Moeller, 74
Bank Trustee; Owned Plastics Company in Rahway
Helmut Moeller, 74, of Mountainside died on Tuesday, May 9, 2000 at home.
Born in Germany, he had lived in Hillside before moving to Mountainside. He also maintained a residence in Mantoloking.
Mr. Moeller had owned the Orange Plastic Company in Rahway from 1964 until his retirement in 1996.
He served on the Board of Trustees of Summit Bank and was a member of the Ocean Heights Association of Mantoloking.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Y. Moeller; two sons, Gary Hilyard and Lary Hilyard; a daughter, Cathy Kniffin; a sister, Elisabeth Uhlig; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, May 13, in the Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Gray Memorial Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Avenue in Cranford.
Martin Nuernberger
Martin Nuernberger, 77, of Barefoot Bay, Fla. died on Sunday, May 7, 2000 at home.
Born in Garwood, he had been a resident of Westfield before moving to Barefoot Bay.
Mr. Nuernberger had been a brewer for Anheuser-Busch in Newark for 34 years, retiring in 1985.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4425 in Barefoot Bay and the Barefoot Bay Golf Club.
Surviving are his wife, Jacqueline Nuernberger; a daughter, Lynne Kosch; two sons, Scott Nuernberger and Drew Nuernberger; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Stephanie Sheola, 90
Merck Retiree; Active With GOP and Other Groups
Stephanie M. Sheola, 90, of Ashland, Ohio died on Monday, May 8, 2000 in the Samaritan Regional Health System in Ashland.
Born in Perth Amboy, she had lived in Westfield, Jackson and in Toms River before moving to Ashland last year.
Mrs. Sheola had worked for Merck & Company, Inc. in Rahway before retiring.
She was a founding member of the Women’s Republican Club in Berkeley Township.
In addition, she had been a member of the Singles Club and the Jolly Travelers of Holiday City in Toms River and of the Columbiettes in Dunellen.
Surviving are a son, Frank Lemko; a daughter, Stephanie Jenemann; two stepsons, James Sheola and John Sheola; a sister, Stella Manhart; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Saturday, May 13, in St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, following the funeral from the Rossi Funeral Home, also in Scotch Plains.
Carole Kahn, 73
Was Longtime Partner In Michael Kohn Jewelers of Westfield
Carole Harris Kahn, 73, of Westfield died on Monday, May 22, 2000 at home.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Glen Ridge, Livingston and Tewksbury before moving to Westfield five years ago.
Mrs. Kahn was a partner for the last 30 years, along with her husband, Lester A. Kahn, of Michael Kohn Jewelers in Westfield.
The business was started by her father-in-law, Michael Kohn, in 1906.
She was a member of the Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
She was predeceased by her brother, Donald Harris.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two daughters, Patricia Einhorn of New City, N.Y. and Nancy Fields of Rocky Hill, Conn.; a son, Dr. Donald Kahn of Old Bridge, and five grandchildren.
The funeral service was held yesterday, Wednesday, May 24, at the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.
Interment took place in Temple B’Nai Abraham Memorial Park in Union.
