William Rhein, 84
William Rhein, 84, of Westfield died on Monday, May 17, 1999 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Florida, New York, he had lived in Newark and in Hillside before moving to Westfield in 1972.
Mr. Rhein was a warehouse foreman for Federal Business Centers in Edison since 1946.
Surviving are his wife, Phronsie Rhein; a son, Gregory Rhein; two daughters, Gayle Elliot and Christine Korteling, and four grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held today, Thursday, May 20, at 11:30 a.m. in the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.

Mary Donohue, 78
Clothes Packer For G.C. Murphy & Co, Jersey City
Mary Donohue, 78, of Spring Lake Heights died on Sunday, May 16, 1999 in Spring Lake Heights Senior Residence.
Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Fanwood before moving to Spring Lake Heights two years ago.
Mrs. Donohue was a clothes packer for G.C. Murphy and Company in Jersey City.
She was a member of the Supper Club and the Senior Citizens Club in Fanwood.
A Mass will be offered today, Thursday, May 20, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Bayonne, following the funeral from the Levis Funeral Home in Bayonne.

Betty Retzlaff, 81
Betty Retzlaff, 81, of Westfield died on Thursday, May 13, 1999 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Detroit, she had lived in Westfield for the last 44 years.
Mrs. Retzlaff was a self-employed Avon representative for 30 years in Westfield before retiring in 1979.
She was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Naomi Circle, both of the First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Thaddeus A. Retzlaff; a daughter, Virginia Jakubowski; two sons, Jon Retzlaff and Peter Retzlaff; seven grandchildren; and a great=grandchild.
A Memorial Service was held on Sunday, May 16, in the First United Methodist Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were handled by the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.

Anthony F. Conti
A Memorial Mass for Anthony F. Conti, 64, of Savannah, Georgia, who died on Saturday, January 30, 1999 in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, will be offered on Saturday, May 22, at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Born in Bayonne, he lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Savannah nine years ago.
Mr. Conti had been employed by Exxon Corporation in New York, serving in various capacities before retiring as manager of administrative services in New York.
He was a member of the Plainfield Country Club in Edison, the Landings Club in Savannah and the Exxon Annuitants Club.
Mr. Conti was also a volunteer for the Carmelite Monastery in Savannah.
He was a United States Army veteran and had served in Europe with the Third Armored Division Band.
He was a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, with a bachelor’s degree in management.
Surviving are his wife, Saundra W. Conti, and a half-brother, Vincent Provino.

Russell McKinnie, 61
Was Member Of Teamster Union Local No. 595
Russell McKinnie, 61, of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, May 11, 1999 at home.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived in Kenilworth before moving to Scotch Plains 31 years ago.
Mr. McKinnie was employed at Chem Clean furniture refinishers in Scotch Plains for 11 years.
Previously, he had been employed at the former Hyatt Roller Bearing Corporation in Clark for 11 years and was a member of Teamster Union Local No. 595 of Linden.
Surviving are his wife, Sherli McKinnie; three daughters, Wendy Bailey of Lacey, Washington, Vikki Pawlowicz of Scotch Plains and Kimberly McKinnie of Plainfield; his mother, Zora Bell McKinnie of Kenilworth; two brothers, Donald McKinnie of Middlesex and Erwin McKinnie of Henderson, North Carolina; a sister, Carolyn Brentley of Kenilworth, and five grandchildren.
Services were held on Saturday, May 15, at the Judkins Colonial Home in Plainfield.

Lillian Haddock, 98
Former Teacher; Was Member of Several Local Clubs
Lillian Smith Haddock, 98, died Friday, May 14, 1999 at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home in Mansfield, Ohio.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Scotch Plains until 1986.
Mrs. Haddock was a former school teacher.
She had been a member of the Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield, the Westfield Women’s Republican Club and the Woman’s Club of Westfield.
She was a member of the Resurrection Parish in Lexington, Ohio.
She was predeceased by a sister, Helen G. Smith, and a brother, James E. Smith.
Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Harold J. Haddock; two sons, Mark Haddock of Mansfield, and Harold Haddock of Grantham, New Hampshire, and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 18. Burial was at Moravian Cemetery in Staten Island, New York.
Arrangements were handled by the Finefrock-Williams Funeral Home in Mansfield.

Terri N. Howerton, 41
Secretary; Co-Owner of Howerton Landscaping
Terri N. Howerton, 41, of Scotch Plains died Monday, May 17, 1999 at home.
Born in Montclair, she had lived in Scotch Plains for 13 years.
Mrs. Howerton was a 1976 graduate of Montclair High School and a 1978 graduate of Berkeley College in Wayne.
She had done post graduate studies at Montclair State College.
She was a legal secretary with C.R. Bard International in Murray Hill for the past five years.
Prior to that she had worked for Allied Signal in Morristown.
She was co-owner of Howerton Landscaping in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are her husband, Bruce A. Howerton; two sons, Alex Howerton and Austin Howerton; a daughter, Nardine Howerton; her mother, Ida King Nance of Montclair; a brother, Tony Nance, of Montclair, and her grandmother, Cornelia King of Montclair.
A Funeral Service will be held tomorrow, Friday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Interment will be at Graceland Memorial Park.
Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Howerton Children’s Fund, c/o Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue, Fanwood, 07023.
