Claudina Ramil, 100
Claudina Ramil, 100, of Cliffwood Beach died on Thursday, July 23, 1998 at the Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel.
Born in Lugo, Spain, she had lived in Newark and Scotch Plains before moving to Cliffwood Beach 28 years ago.
Mrs. Ramil had been a seamstress with Park Fashions in Newark for 37 years before retiring in 1957.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Paz and Carmen Silva; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 27, at the Day Funeral Home in Keyport.
Edward P. Goltra, 67
Edward P. Goltra, 67, of Somerville died on Wednesday, July 22, 1998 at home.
Born in Westfield, he had lived in Somerville for the past 25 years.
Mr. Goltra had been a self-employed carpenter in the Somerville area for many years before retiring five years ago.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are four children in North Carolina, and two brothers, Richard V. Goltra of Concord, California and John R. Goltra of Scotch Plains.
Funeral services were private. Arrangements were handled by the Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung.
Charles A. Hovan, 73
Charles A. Hovan, 73, of Valdosta, Georgia died on Tuesday, July 21 1998.
Born in Raritan Borough, he had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Valdosta 23 years ago.
Mr. Hovan worked in the receiving and shipping department of Lowndes County Engineering in Valdosta. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and of the Knights of Columbus, both in Valdosta. Mr. Hovan was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 40 years, attaining the rank of Fourth Degree. He also served as faithful navigator and commander of the Color Corps.
Mr. Hovan was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Valdosta.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Catherine Splaine Hovan; two sisters, Margaret Blackowitz and Ann Kovalik, and two brothers, John Hovan, Jr. and William Hovan.
Surviving are his wife, Maggie Williams Hovan; a stepdaughter, Juanita Warner of Valdosta; two stepsons, Danny Silverthorne of Madison, Wisconsin and David Silverthorne of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and four step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 24, at St. John the Evangelist Church. A rosary service was held on Thursday, July 23, at the Carson McLane Funeral Home Chapel in Valdosta.

William O. Van Blarcom, 73
William O. Van Blarcom, 73, a former Mountainside Borough Councilman, died on Tuesday, July 21, 1998 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Hawthorne, Mr. Van Blarcom had lived in Mountainside for 35 years.
He graduated from Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tennessee in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in history and political science.
Mr. Van Blarcom had been Chief Administrative Officer with the state Division of Consumer Affairs in Newark for 25 years, retiring in 1991.
He served on the Borough Council from 1971 to 1973, and was also the Mountainside Republican Chairman for many years.
In early 1997, Governor Christine Todd Whitman appointed Mr. Van Blarcom to the New Jersey Drug Utilization Review Council as a public member.
Mr. Van Blarcom was a member of the First Baptist Church in Westfield, the West Fields Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the New Jersey Historical Society, the Connecticut Society of Genealogists, and the Genealogical Society of the West Fields.
He also was a member and Treasurer of the Mountainside Rescue Squad for more than 20 years, and served as Assistant Treasurer of Mobile Meals of Westfield.
He served in the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Betty J. Van Blarcom; two daughters, Carol V. Schagerl of Gloucester, Ontario, Canada, and Gail Brossman of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 24, at the First Baptist Church. Arrangements were handled by the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.

E. Norma Case Warwick
E. Norma Case Warwick, 80, of Clark died on Tuesday, July 21, 1998 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Born in Keyport, she had lived in Westfield for 35 years before moving to Clark four years ago. Mrs. Warwick had worked in the accounting department of the Great American Insurance Company in Murray Hill for 12 years, retiring in 1982.
She was an active member of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield, as well as its Women’s Circle, and was a former member of the Reformed Church of Linden.
Mrs. Warwick served as a tutor with the Literacy Volunteers of America at the Plainfield Library. She was also a member of the Westfield Historical Society.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman H. Warwick, Sr., in 1987.
Surviving are two sons, Norman H. Warwick, Jr. of South Bound Brook and Richard A. Warwick of Scotch Plains; three daughters, Eleanor H. Van Pelt of Troy, New York, Betsy A. Christensen of Iselin and Meredith N. Smela of Clark; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 25, in the Chapel of The Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Gray Funeral Home, 318 East Broad Street in Westfield.

Joseph ‘Giuseppe’ Ceccomancini, 89
Was Mason for More Than 50 Years
Joseph “Giuseppe” Ceccomancini, 89, of Scotch Plains died on Saturday, July 25, 1998 at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Italy, Mr. Ceccomancini came to the United States and had lived in Scotch Plains since 1953.
He had been a mason for more than 50 years, and last worked for Mancini Builders in Scotch Plains before retiring in 1976.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Surviving are his wife, Rosa Menna Ceccomancini; a son, Anthony Ceccomancini of North Plainfield; two daughters, Lucy Mancini of Scotch Plains and Anna Piersante of North Plainfield; a brother, Leo Ceccomancini of Canada; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 28, at the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains, followed by a Mass at St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church.
Adelaide E. Black, 83
Adelaide E. Black, 83, of Washington, D.C. died on Thursday, July 23, 1998 at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Born in Newark, she had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Washington, D.C. in 1996.
Mrs. Black had bought and sold estate goods for the Whipple Tree store in Westfield for many years before retiring.
Surviving are a daughter, Lois C. Simon; a stepson, George Black; two stepdaughters, Barbara Marko and Marjorie Longo; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 27, in the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.
