Silveria P. Urriza, 78
Silveria P. Urriza, 78, of Fanwood died on Friday, August 7, 1998 at Orange Memorial Hospital.
Born in the Philippines, she had moved to Fanwood 11 years ago.
Mrs. Urriza was a member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
Her husband, Ramon Urriza, died in 1988.
Surviving are four sons, Tony Urriza, Percival Urriza, Emmanuel Urriza and Robert Urriza, all of the Philippines; three daughters, Nila Urriza and Elizabeth Arjona of Piscataway, and Ariel Urriza of the Philippines; a brother Epipanio Pullan of Canada; nine grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held in the Philippines. The Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood, was in charge of the arrangements.
Janet Snyder-Carlbon, 62
Was Active With Education and GOP Activities
Janet Lee Snyder-Carlbon, 62, of Raubsville, Pa. died on Monday, June 12, 2000 at home.
Born in East Orange, she had lived in Mountainside, Scotch Plains and Clinton before moving to Raubsville 15 years ago.
Mrs. Snyder-Carlbon had owned Stewart's Drive-In in Clinton Township for 15 years before retiring.
She served on the Parent Teacher Association executive boards in Clinton, Mountainside and Scotch Plains.
She was also a member of the Planning Board, the Board of Education and the Board of Health, all in Clinton.
Mrs. Snyder-Carlbon had also been an editor of the Town of Clinton Newsletter, a President of the Republican Club and a Republican County Committeewoman.
Surviving are two daughters, Laureen Schellinkhout and Cindy Miller; a son, Garry L. Carlbon; her mother, Margaret Snyder, and five grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, June 15, in the Clinton United Methodist Church, 15 Halstead Street in Clinton.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home in Clinton.
Joan Pinnell, 69
Involved in Scouting; Was Supervisor at Insurance Firm
Joan M. Pinnell, 69, of Fanwood died on Saturday, June 10, 2000 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in River Vale, she had lived in Waldwick before moving to Fanwood in 1968.
Mrs. Pinnell had been a supervisor with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Parsippany before retiring in 1992.
She was active with the Girl Scouts of America, having served as a troop leader, community Chairperson and member of the Washington Rock Council Board of Directors.
Mrs. Pinnell served in the United States Naval Reserves during the 1950's.
Surviving are her husband, Richard S. Pinnell; two sons, Wayne Pinnell and Steven Pinnell; two daughters, Linda Morris and Kimberly Styles; a sister, Olive Haer; a brother, Joseph Canzoneri, and four grandchildren.
Services were held on Tuesday, June 13, in the Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
Interment followed at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

Ashton Cuckler, 90
Research Scientist; Developed Various Drugs at Merck
Ashton C. Cuckler, 90, died on Thursday, May 25, 2000 at University Hospital in Birmingham, Ala.
Born in Wilsonville, Neb., he maintained dual residences in Summit and in Birmingham since 1998. He had previously lived in Westfield.
Mr. Cuckler had been a research scientist with Merck and Company in Rahway for 28 years before retiring in 1975.
A specialist in parasitology, he was responsible for the development of numerous drugs used worldwide in the treatment of both animal and human diseases. He was a member of the American Society of Parasitologists.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Cuckler; a son, John Cuckler; a daughter, Anne Dunning, and seven grandchildren.
A private memorial service is planned.

Maria Roth
Maria Roth died on Thursday, May 11, 2000 at her residence in Montreal, Canada.
Born in Hungary, she had lived in Montreal for the past 50 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Bartok of Westfield and Katherine Halpern of Durham, N.C.; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held on Monday, May 15, at the Menorah Chapels at Millburn in Union.
Interment took place at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Fairview.
Jimmy Fountoulakis, 73
Was Marine; Research Microbiologist at Merck
Jimmy M. Fountoulakis, 73, of Scotch Plains died on Tuesday, June 6, 2000 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Belzoni, Miss., he had lived in Elkton, Va. before moving to Scotch Plains many years ago.
Fountoulakis had been a research microbiologist with Merck & Gallaway in Rahway for more than 34 years before retiring last August. He had previously worked for Merck & Company in Elkton for eight years.
He attended Texarkana College in Texas and earned both his bachelor’s and a master’s degree in psychology and microbiology from the University of Texas.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Fountoulakis was a member of Texas Ex-Students’ Association. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael J. and Mary Fountoulakis.
Surviving are his wife, Catalina Lopez Fountoulakis; three sons, Michael Fountoulakis, George Fountoulakis and Steven Fountoulakis, and two brothers, John M. Fountoulakis of Texarkana and George Fountoulakis of Skopolos, Greece.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 12, at the Dooley Colonial Home, 556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Suzanne Steffens-Brotz
Suzanne Steffens-Brotz of Seminole, Fla. died on Tuesday, June 6, 2000 at home.
Born in Niagara Falls, she had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Seminole.
Steffens-Brotz was a bank loan officer.
She was a member of the Seminole Women’s Club and the Korean War Veterans Auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband, John Brotz; two daughters, Sonja Cohen and Sheila Amberg; two sons, Harry Steffens and Noel Steffens; three step-sons, Stephen Brotz, Christopher Brotz and Ken Brotz; two brothers, Edward Shrubsall and Peter Shrubsall, and five grandchildren.
Services were held on Friday, June 9, in St. Justin Martyr Church in Largo, Fla.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Lewis W. Mohn Funeral Home in Seminole.
