Bernard Anderson, 81
Rotary Officer; Was Member of Scotchwood Lodge
Bernard H. Anderson, 81, of Calabash, N.C.
died on Wednesday, January 12, 2000 in Calabash.
Born in Newark, he had lived in
Scotch Plains before relocating to
North Carolina nine years ago.
Mr. Anderson had been the owner
of the JD Trophy and Sport Shop in
Scotch Plains before retiring more
than 10 years ago.
He was a former parishioner of the
Willow Grove Presbyterian Church
in Scotch Plains.
He was a member of the Calabash
Presbyterian Church, the Carolina
Shores Golf Club and the Benevolent
and Protective Order of Elks, all in
Calabash.
Mr. Anderson was a former member of the
Fanwood-Scotch Plains Rotary Club,
serving as President from 1979 to 1980
and as Club Secretary from 1986 to 1987.
He served a term as District Secretary
or Rotary District No. 7510,
participated in Rotary Bowling and
was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow
in 1983.
He was also a member of the
Scotchwood Lodge No. 295 of Free
and Accepted Masons in Scotch
Plains.
He was predeceased by his wife,
Harriet L. Anderson, in 1998.
Surviving are his daughter, Judy
Caggiano of Montville; a son, Donald
B. Caggiano of Westampton; a
brother, Raymond Anderson of
Florida, and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, January 17, at the Memorial
Funeral Home, 155 South Avenue in Fanwood.
Interment followed at Hollywood Cemetery
in Union.

Lynne Carol Kiseli, 54
Lynne Carol Burdick Kiseli, 54, of
Greensboro, N. C. died on Saturday,
January 15, 2000 at High Point Regional
Hospital in High Point, N. C.
Born in Southampton, N. Y., the
daughter of John F. and Mary M.
Burdick, she grew up in Upper
Montclair. She had lived in Westfield
and in Warren Township before retiring
to Greensboro in August of 1999.
Mrs. Kiseli, who was primarily a
homemaker, was honored as Employee of
the Year in 1989 while
serving as manager of Scarborough
Video in Warren.
Surviving are two sons,
John Matthew Kiseli of Warren and Jeffrey
Bryan Kiseli of Greensboro; a sister,
Loren B. Postel, and a brother, Bruce
H. Burdick.
A memorial service will be held at
10 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, at
Our Lady of the Mount Roman Catholic
Church on Mount Bethel Road in
Warren Township.
Arrangements were under the direction
of the Harold C. Davis Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial
donations may be made to the American
Diabetes Association.
Phoebe Allison Arundale, 80
Vocalist; Studied and Performed in New York
Phoebe Allison Kooker Arundale,
80, of Yarmouthport, Mass., a former
Westfield resident, died on Friday,
January 14, 2000 at Pleasant Bay Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center in
Brewster, Mass.
Born in Hatboro, Pa., she moved to
Elizabeth as a child and graduated
from high school there. She had lived
in Westfield for 30 years before
relocating to Cape Cod, Mass. in 1972.
Mrs. Arundale studied voice with
Madaline King Bartell in Westfield
and with Evan Evans of New York
City, a metropolitan opera star and
instructor at the Juilliard School of
Music in New York City. She made
her vocal debut with a concert in New
York City’s Times Hall.
She was a soprano for 12 years at
St. John’s Episcopal Church in
Elizabeth and later at the Dutch Reformed
Church in Newark.
In Cape Cod, she became a soloist
at the First Congregational Church
of Yarmouth, where she was also
Chairwoman of its Music Committee,
taught Sunday School, was a
member of the Diaconate and the
Meetenetts Women’s Fellowship and
volunteered at The Ditty Box.
Surviving are her husband of 61
years, Erving Arundale; two daughters,
Joanne Arundale Patterson of
Crystal Lake, Ill. and Susan Arundale
Zolli of Providence, R.I.; a son,
Charles E. Arundale of West
Yarmouth; a brother, Malcolm
Allison of Beaufort, S.C. and North
Dartmouth, Mass.; two sisters, Amy
Brewster of Long Beach, Calif. and
Susan Bronson of Hilton Head, S.C.;
seven grandchildren and 10 great-
grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at
the First Congregational Church at a
later date. Burial will be private.

Ethel Carey, 87
Ethel Carey, 87, of Somerset died
on Monday, January 17, 2000 at the
McCarrick Care Center in Somerset.
Born in Greenwich Village, N.Y.,
she had lived in Brooklyn before
moving to Somerset.
Mrs. Carey was a member of the
American Association of Retired
Persons.
She was predeceased by her husband,
Mark Carey, in 1990; a son,
Kenneth Carey, in 1992, and a sister,
Edna McElroy.
Surviving are a son, Mark Carey of
Somerset; a daughter, Valerie
McClure of Whitehouse, Tex.; two
sisters, Ann McElroy of Westfield
and Rose Kane of Port Richey, Fla.;
six grandchildren and four great-
grandchildren.
Services will be held today, Thursday,
January 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the
Gleason Funeral Home in Somerset.
Cremation will follow.
Ruth Stark, 83
Former President Of Woman’s Club and Garden Club
Ruth Cadwallader Stark, 83, of
Sun City Center, Fla., died on Thursday,
January 6, 2000 at South Bay Hospital
in Sun City Center.
Born on July 22, 1916 in Atlantic
City, she had lived in Westfield for 30
years before retiring to Sun City Center
in 1987. She and her family also
maintained a beach home in Beach
Haven for 53 years.
Mrs. Stark was a former President
of the Woman’s Club of Westfield
and was named President Emeritus
in honor of her contributions. She
was also President of the Garden
Club of Westfield and served as World
Mission Chairwoman of the Presbyterian
Women of New Jersey.
She was predeceased by a son,
Anthony Stark, 3rd.
Surviving are her husband of 60
years, Anthony J. Stark, Jr.; a son,
Charles D. Stark of Santa Rosa, Calif.;
five grandchildren and five great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services were celebrated on
Monday, January 10, at St. Andrew’s
Presbyterian Church in Sun City Center.
Interment took place at Mansion
Memorial Park in Ellenton, Fla.
Arrangements were under the direction
of Lewers Funeral Home in Ruskin, Fla.

Tampa, Fla., 33607.
Catherine Guthrie Walker, 40
Attorney; Had Attended Schools in Westfield
Catherine Guthrie Walker, 40, of
Memphis, Tenn., an attorney and
former Westfield resident, died on
Wednesday, December 29, 1999 at her
home.
Born in Ashville, N.C., she had
lived in Westfield and was educated
through the local school system,
graduating in 1977. She had lived in
Memphis for 15 years.
Mrs. Walker was a staff attorney
with Memphis Area Legal Services,
Inc. in Memphis. Prior to that, she
had been Assistant Director of Admissions
for the Kansas City Institute of Art
in Kansas City, Kan., for several years.
She graduated from the Philadelphia
College of Art, the University of
Delaware at Newark and the Cecil C.
Humphreys School of Law at the
University of Memphis.
Surviving are her husband, Russell
H. Walker; her mother, Edna G. Guthrie
of Plainfield; a sister, Jennifer G.
Winschel of Trumbull, Conn.; a brother,
Thomas G. Guthrie of Plainfield, and
her grandmother, Josephine E.
Grainger of Laurens, S.C.
Services were held on Monday,
January 3, in the Calvary Episcopal
Church in Memphis, with interment
in Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis.
Arrangements were under the direction
of Canale Funeral Directors in Memphis.
Memorial donations may be sent
to a charity of the individual’s choice.
