Joseph Villa, Jr., 85
Was Treasurer For Villa Brothers Company in Clark
Joseph Villa, Jr., 85, a lifelong
Westfield resident, died on Saturday,
December 25, 1999 in Overlook Hospital
in Summit.
Mr. Villa was Treasurer of Villa
Brothers Company, a contracting firm
in Clark, where he worked for most
of his life.
He was a member of the First United
Methodist Church in Westfield.
He was predeceased by his wife,
Maryann M. Magnotti Villa, in 1996.
Surviving are two daughters,
Brenda V. Weiss of Short Hills and
Karleen V. Burns of Westfield; two
sisters, Amelia Tosto of Clark and
Florence Minniccino of Westfield; a
brother, Quinty Villa of Westfield,
and four grandchildren.
A funeral service was held on
Thursday, December 30, at the
Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral
Home in Westfield. Interment
was at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.

Rose DeCuollo Laratta, 87
Volunteer, Rosarian at St. Bartholomew Church
Rose DeCuollo Laratta, 87, a lifelong
resident of Scotch Plains, died
on Thursday, December 30, 1999 at
Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center
in Plainfield.
Mrs. Laratta was a homemaker.
She was a volunteer at St.
Bartholomew the Apostle Roman
Catholic Church and Rectory in
Scotch Plains and also was a member
of the church’s Rosary Altar Society.
She was predeceased by her husband,
Caesar Laratta, in 1972, and by
five brothers, Ernest DeCuollo, Louis
DeCuollo, Angelo DeCuollo, Anthony DeCuollo
and Dominic DeCuollo, and by a sister,
Theresa Sognato.
Surviving are three daughters, Judy
Keane, Edith Smith and Evelyn
Matino; four grandchildren and two
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday,
January 4, from the Rossi Funeral Home in
Scotch Plains, followed by a Mass at
St. Bartholomew the Apostle Church.

Carmelo Cintorrino, 89
Carmelo Cintorrino, 89, of Westfield
died on Thursday, December
30, 1999 in Muhlenberg Regional Medical
Center in Plainfield.
Born and raised in Roccalumera,
Italy, he came to the United States in
1960 and settled in Westfield.
Mr. Cintorrino had been a cabinet
maker for the Fanwood Millwork
Company in Fanwood for 11 years
before retiring in 1971. He had
previously been a cabinet maker in Italy.
He served in the Italian Army in
World War II.
He was predeceased by his wife,
Giuseppa Cintorrino; a son,
Francesco Cintorrino, and a daughter,
Maria Cintorrino.
Surviving are three daughters,
Antoinetta Ulisse, Grace DiBella and
Rita DiPalo; two sons, Tino
Cintorrino and Orlando Cintorrino;
13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was
held on Monday, January 3, in the
Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church
in Westfield. Interment took place at
Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were under the direction
of the Dooley Colonial Home,
556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
Walter S. Bozek, 86
Walter S. “Whitey” Bozek, 86, of
Plainfield died on Sunday, January 2, 2000
at the Robert Wood Johnson Jr. Health
Care Center in Plainfield.
Born and raised in South Plainfield,
he had lived in Scotch Plains for 23
years before moving to Plainfield
three years ago.
Mr. Bozek had been a printer for
Boise’s Printing in Plainfield for 50
years before retiring in 1978.
He was a charter and life member
of the South Plainfield Polish National
Home and was a former pitcher
for the Polish National Home softball
team.
Mr. Bozek was a former member of
the South Plainfield Senior Citizens
and was active with many area bowling
leagues.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years,
Anna Mieszkalski Bozek.
Funeral services will be held at 10
a.m. today, Thursday, January 6, at
the James W. Conroy Funeral Home
in South Plainfield. Burial will follow
at the Lake Nelson Memorial
Park in Piscataway.

Pauline Truono, 91
Pauline Castello Truono, 91, of
Brick died on Saturday, January 1, 2000 at
Point Pleasant Hospital in Point Pleasant.
Born in Newark, she had lived in
New York City and the Central Jersey
area, including Westfield,
Garwood, Scotch Plains and South
Plainfield, before moving to Brick in
1970.
Mrs. Truono was a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her husband,
Anthony Truono, in 1968; a
granddaughter, Crystal Wissell, in
1994; her brother, Salvatore Castello;
and a sister, Dorothy Didio.
Surviving are two daughters,
Rosemarie J. Gargano of Lehigh, Fla.
and Nancy Linfante of Brick; two
sons, Anthony F. Truono and Joseph
J. Truono, both of South Plainfield;
13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren
and a great-great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at
9:15 a.m. today, Thursday, January
6, in the McCriskin Home for Funerals
in South Plainfield, followed by a
10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial in
the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic
Church in South Plainfield.
Interment will follow in the Holy
Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
Leroy F. Hilzinger, 79
Navy Veteran; Active With Old Guard of Westfield
Leroy F. Hilzinger, 79, of Westfield
died on Saturday, January 15, 2000 in the
Westfield Center, Genesis ElderCare
Network of Westfield.
Born in Brooklyn, he moved to
Westfield 46 years ago.
Mr. Hilzinger had been an accounting
manager in the data processing
department of Johnson & Johnson in
New Brunswick for many years before
retiring in 1985.
He received a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Accounting from New York
University.
Mr. Hilzinger served in the United
States Navy during World War II.
He was a member of the Old Guard
of Westfield, where he served as
Treasurer and participated on the
bowling team.
He was also a bookkeeper for the
Manor Park Swim Club and a parishioner
and usher at St. Helen’s Roman
Catholic Church, both in Westfield.
Surviving are his wife, Mary
Sweeney Hilzinger; a son, Roy
Hilzinger of Glen Rock; a daughter,
Mary T. Hubbard of Medfield, Mass.;
two sisters, Margaret Craig of
Greenlawn, N.Y. and Alice Drenker
of Anaheim, Calif., and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was
offered yesterday, Wednesday, January 19,
in St. Helen’s Church. Interment took
place at Fairview Cemetery in Westfield.
Arrangements were under the direction of
the Dooley Colonial Home,
556 Westfield Avenue in Westfield.
