Rosemarie Tramontano, 70
Rosarian; Was Employed by Merck & Company
Rosemarie L. DeBella Tramontano, 70, of
Plainfield died on Saturday, December 25,
1999 at home.
Born and raised in Westfield, she
lived in Plainfield since 1957.
She had worked for Merck & Company, Inc.
in Rahway for 20 years before retiring
in 1989.
Mrs. Tramontano was a communicant of
St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church
in Plainfield and a member of the its
Rosary Society.
She was predeceased by her husband,
Vincent A. Tramontano, Sr.,
on December 1, and by two brothers,
Joseph DeBella and Samuel DeBella,
in 1982.
Surviving are two sons, Vincent A.
Tramontano, Jr. of South Plainfield
and John E. Tramontano of
Bridgewater; two daughters, Elaine
G. Tramontano and Anita M.
Tramontano, both of Plainfield, and
four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on
Thursday, December 30, at the
Higgins Home for Funerals in
Watchung, followed by a Mass at St.
Bernard’s Church. Interment took
place at St. Gertrude’s Mausoleum in
Colonia.

Joseph B. Brown, 57
Joseph B. Brown, 57, of North
Brunswick died on Tuesday,
December 21, 1999 at home.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., he had
lived in Edison before moving to
North Brunswick over 30 years ago.
Mr. Brown was employed as an
operating engineer with Local No.
825 of the International Union of
Operating Engineers for the past 32
years.
He was a United States Army veteran
and served during the Vietnam
War.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Coyle
Brown; a son, James Brown of North
Brunswick; a daughter, Pamela Irwin
of Saylorsburg, Pa.; his mother, Clara
Carpenter Brown of Edison; a brother,
Dane A. Brown of Scotch Plains, and
two grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Monday,
December 27, at St. Mary of Mount
Virgin Roman Catholic Church in
New Brunswick, following services
at the Selover Funeral Home in North
Brunswick.
Michael Kascin, Jr.
Michael Kascin, Jr. of
Mountainside died on Wednesday,
December 29, 1999 in Overlook Hospital
in Summit.
Born in Cranford, he had lived in
Garwood before moving to
Mountainside 46 years ago.
Mr. Kascin had been a self-employed
carpenter for 40 years before
retiring in 1982. He also taught at
Elizabeth Vocational and Technical
High School.
He served in the United States
Army during World War II.
Mr. Kascin was a member of the
American Legion Post and the
Policemen’s Benevolent Association
No. 19, both in Mountainside.
He won the Union County BetterBall
Golf Championship several
times between 1953 and 1973.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years,
Helen E. Kascin; a daughter, Jean
Marie Miller; a son, Robert M.
Kascin; a sister, Irene Haskell, and
five grandchildren.
A Mass was offered on Monday,
January 3, in Our Lady of Lourdes
Roman Catholic Church in
Mountainside, following the funeral
from the Rossi Funeral Home in
Scotch Plains.
William F. Daly, 89
Retired Clerk; Served in the Pacific During WW II
William F. Daly, 89, of Scotch
Plains died on Thursday, December
30, 1999 at the Westfield Center, Genesis
ElderCare Network in Westfield.
Born in New York City, he had
lived in New Hyde Park, N.Y. before
relocating to Scotch Plains in 1995.
Mr. Daly had been employed as a
postal clerk for the United States
Postal Service in Brooklyn before
retiring in 1971.
He served with the 132nd Combat
Engineers during World War II in the
Guam, Philippines and Okinawa Invasion.
He was also a member of the
132nd Combat Engineers Association.
He was a communicant of St.
Bartholomew the Apostle Roman
Catholic Church in Scotch Plains.
While living in New York, he was a
communicant of Notre Dame Church
in New Hyde Park and St. Pascal
Baylon in St. Albans.
He was predeceased by his wife,
Rita Fiorentino Daly, in 1986.
Surviving are a son, William F.
Daly of Fanwood, and three grandsons.
Funeral services were held on
Monday, January 3, from the Rossi
Funeral Home in Scotch Plains,
followed by a Mass at St. Bartholomew
the Apostle Church.

Edwin Chlebicki, 82
Edwin Chlebicki, 82, of Scotch
Plains died on Thursday, December
30, 1999 at Hunterdon Medical Center in
Flemington.
Born in Elizabeth, he had lived for
13 years in Bricktown before moving
to Scotch Plains two years ago.
Mr. Chlebicki had been employed
with the Singer Manufacturing Company
in Elizabeth as a set-up man for
44 years before retiring 20 years ago.
Surviving are a son, Eugene
Chlebicki of Huntington Beach, Calif.;
three daughters, Kathleen Leso
of Clark and Theresa Schoberl of
Hillsborough; a sister, Alice Ravaioli,
and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday,
January 3, at St. Helen’s Roman
Catholic Church in Westfield.
Interment took place at St. Gertrude’s
Cemetery in Colonia.
Arrangements were handled by the
Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home in
Clark.
William E. Taylor, 77
Retired Marine; District Manager for New Jersey Bell
William E. Taylor, 77, of Westfield died
on Wednesday, December 29, 1999 at
Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Born in Brooklyn, he lived in Westfield
for 73 years.
Mr. Taylor had been a District
Manager in New Jersey Bell’s Traffic
and Data Systems operations until
retiring in 1984 after 37 years.
A graduate of Westfield High
School and Colgate University in
Hamilton, N.Y., he played varsity
baseball and basketball in both high
school and college.
Mr. Taylor was a Lieutenant in the
United States Marine Corps during
World War II and a Captain in the
Marine Corps Reserves when he retired
from service in 1958.
He was a member of the Westfield
Y’s Board of Directors and was active
with the Westfield Schools Boosters
Association and developmental
youth sports organizations.
Surviving are two daughters,
Wendy Edmon of Lake Placid, N.Y.
and Marcy Tourtellotte of Westfield;
a son, Bill Taylor of Jupiter, Fla., and
eight grandchildren.
A memorial service was held yesterday,
Wednesday, January 5, at The
Presbyterian Church in Westfield.
A college scholarship fund in Mr.
Taylor’s name will be established by
the Westfield Boosters Association.
