John J. "Chief" Stoncius, Jr.
John J. "Chief" Stoncius, Jr., 72 of Phillipsburg, died Monday, May 13, 1996 in Warren Hospital where he was a patient since February.
He was an engineering aide for the State of New Jersey, Department of Transportation. He retired on December 1, 1981. He had previously worked for Ingersoll Rand in Phillipsburg.
Born in Easton on July 20, 1923, he was the son of the late John J. And Bronislava Straukas Stoncius, Sr.
He had been very active in local baseball, golf, basketball and softball, playing for many area leagues, such as the YMIA Industrial League when they were the 1948-1951 and 1954 Champions. He was also named the outstanding pitcher in 1960 while playing for te New York Italian Bakery team. He was also on the YMIA Golf League when they won the 1972 championship trophy.
He attained the rank of Technician fourth grade while with the US Army during World War Two. He was assigned to the Headquarters and Service Company, 618th Battalion. He received the WWII Victory, Good Conduct, Asiatic Pacific Theater and the American Theater ribbons.
He graduated Easton High School in 1941.
He is survived by his wife, the former Leah Hay. They observed their 48th wedding anniversay last October. He is also survived by three nieces and three nephews, four great nephews, two great nieces, one great-great nephew and one great-great niece. A brother, Wesley died earlier.
Private cremation will be held. There will be no services. Arrangement are being handled by the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 So. Main St., Phillipsburg.
Shirley K. Storm
Shirley K. Storm, 64, of Phillipsburg, died Friday, February 11, 1994 in her home.
Born April 25, 1929 in Phillipsburg, she was a daughter of the late William and Mary Baker.
She was the wife of the late Kenneth M. Storm, who died May 27, 1980.
Survivors include two sons, Charles W. of Washington, N.J., and John R. of Stockertown; four daughters, Kay L. Pierce of Easton, Mary Lou Cogan of Phillipsburg, and Evelyn M. Morris and Ruth Ann Cahill, both of Wilson Boro; a brother, Charles Baker of Phillipsburg; a sister, Edith Thorp of Belfast; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St., Phillipsburg. Calling hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Stewartsville Lutheran Cemetery, Stewartsville, NJ.
Mark T. Stratton
Mark T. Stratton, 42, of Stewartsville, NJ, died Wednesday, November 24, 1999 in Lopatcong Twp., NJ. as a result of a motor vehicle accident
Mark was a courier for Federal Express, in Allentown, PA. He was also a customer service representative for Northwest Airlines in Allentown.
Born August 6, 1957 in Bangor, Maine, he was the son of Sally E. Hersey Stratton of Fort Myers, Florida and the late Wilbur R. Stratton, Jr.
Mark was a member of the United States Trotting Association. Mark previously owned Stratton Stables, Stewartsville, NJ, where he owned, trained, drove and bred harness horses.
He was a member of the New England Patriots Fan Club and a member of the Federal Express Bowling League.
In addition to his mother, Mark is survived by his maternal grandmother, Evelyn LaBelle of Bangor, Maine; three daughters, Rebecca S. and Sarah E., both of Hellertown, PA and Erica L.of Oslo, Norway; four brothers, Peter T. of White Sulpher Springs, NY, Paul D. of Northfield, OH, David A. of Ottawa, OH and Matthew S. of Fort Myers, Fla.; a granddaughter, Lilly Danielle Stratton of Hellertown and his life partner, Susan R. Jackson of Stewartsville, NJ.
Private cremation will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a gathering at Mark and Sue's home on Tuesday, November, 30, 1999 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. for a celebration of Mark's life.
A gathering for friends and relatives will also be held at the home of Mark's cousin, Richard Stratton in Hudson, NH. this Saturday, December 4, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The family requests memorial contributions for the benefit of his children, made payable to and sent in care of Mark's brother, Matthew S. Stratton, 7119 Lakeridge View Ct #103, Fort Myers, Fl., 33907. Contributions will also be accepted at the gathering periods on Tuesday and Saturday.
William P. Stueber
William P. Stueber, Sr., 72, of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, September 13, 2000 in Warren Hospital.
He worked for Ingersoll-Rand -Turbo Division in Phillipsburg as a draftsman from 1955 until his retirement in 1987.
Born June 26, 1928 in Phillipsburg, he was the son of the late Paul F. and Louise Klingfuf Stueber.
He was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.
He was a Private First Class in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
He graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1947.
His wife, the former Genevieve Ritz died Sept. 15, 1985.
He is survived by a son, William P., II, of Stockton, NJ and a sister, Janet Taylor of Vero Beach, Fla., and several nieces and nephews. A brother Paul died earlier.
Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St., Phillipsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday in the church, 426 S Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the parish Cemetery, Greenwich Twp., NJ. A calling hour will be held from 8:30 until time of services Monday in the funeral home.
Mary E. Swanton
Mary E. Swanton, 71, of Flanders, NJ, died Sunday, October 24, 1999 in her daughter's home in Alpha, NJ.
She was a former health aide for the Dependable Agency in Flanders, NJ.
Born October 3, 1928 in Dunellen, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Caroline Beam Smith.
Her husband, the late Frank Swanton died April 18, 1995.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou, wife of John F. Watkins of Alpha, NJ and Carol Ann Grega of Browns Mills, NJ; two sons, Frank Thomas Swanton of Stanhope, NJ and Richard William Swanton of Flanders, NJ and five grandchildren. Two sisters, Florence Baumgartner and Beverly Pasquale both died earlier.
Private cremation was held at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 6, 1999 in St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Hillcrest Blvd and Lincoln Road, Phillipsburg, with the Rev. Frank Goss officiating.

Richard M. "Pete" Swauger
Richard M. "Pete" Swauger, 67, of Morris Park, Lopatcong Twp., died Monday, February 17, 1997 in Easton Hospital.
He was an accountant for the former Bell and Howell Company, Phillipsburg for 33 years, retiring in 1991.
Born January 31, 1930, he was the son of the late B. Peter and Frances Watkus Swauger.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, where he was also a member of the church council, was a treasurer and taught Sunday school classes for many years. He was also named as Church Member of the Year in 1973.
He was a 1947 graduate of Phillipsburg High School, attended Rutgers University and graduated from Churchman's Business School in Easton.
He played basketball for the Churchman's Basketball team and also played baseball with the Tri-County League. He also enjoyed playing golf.
He was an exempt member of the Delaware Park Fire Co., Lopatcong Twp. And was also the current treasurer of the Delaware Park Exempt Fireman's Association.
He served as the treasurer for the Township of Lopatcong from 1968 to 1972 and was a member of the Lopatcong Twp. Planning Board from 1968 to 1972. He was also a member of the National Association of Accountants.
He and his wife, the former Dorothy M. Van Emburg, observed their 45th wedding anniversary January 26th.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Richard A. of White Twp., NJ; two daughters, Jody S. Baguskis of Bethlehem Twp., NJ, and Jane D. Scrudota of Hoboken, NJ.; a sister, Doris J. Casey of Phillipsburg and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Friday, in St. John's Lutheran Church, Chamber St., Phillipsburg. Calling hours will be held 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Thursday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg and Friday, from Noon until time of services in the church.

Wayne P. Sweetman
Wayne P. "Tail Gater", Sweetman, 56, of Pohatcong Twp., NJ, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 in Warren Hospital.
He was a truck driver for Raymond Hull Trucking, Columbia, NJ and formerly worked the for Lentine Trucking Co. in Pattenburg, NJ.
Born November 1, 1945 in Phillipsburg, he was the son of Charles and Florence Lippincott Groff of Bangor.
He is survived by four daughters, Sheila Varenkamp of Glen Gardner, NJ, Rene'e Sweetman of Stroudsburg, PA, Penny Hall of Pen Argyl, PA and Wendy Sweetman of Bangor, PA.; a brother, David Groff of Phillipsburg; four sisters, Edna Sweetman of Asbury, NJ, Shirley Groff of North Carolina, Jeanie Brown of Easton and Violet Groff of Bangor, PA and five grandchildren. A brother Thomas died earlier.
Funeral services will be held 8:00 p.m. Saturday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until time of services in the funeral home on Saturday. Burial will be private.

June Marie Taylor
June Marie Taylor, 56, of Easton, died Wednesday, October 16, 1996 in her home after a lengthy illness.
She was a nurses aide for 17 years for the former Garden Nursing Home and the Care Center of Phillipsburg, where she last worked in 1988.
Born March 15, 1940 in Phillipsburg, she was the daughter of the late John H. And Elizabeth C. Fields Thornton.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She and her husband, Cleo, observed their 26th wedding anniversary September 19.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Kimberly Taylor-Martin; one grandson, Edward "EJ" D. Martin, Jr and one sister, Ruby Izak of Phillipsburg. Four brothers, Leroy, William H., Clarence S. And John H. and a sister, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick all died earlier.
Graveside services and burial will be held 11:00 AM Friday in the Phillipsburg Cemetery, Fillmore St., Phillipsburg. There are no calling hours.

Carole B. Terp
Carole B. Terp, 77, of Allentown, Pa., formerly of Roanoke, Virginia and Parsippany, NJ, died Friday, December 1, 2000 in her home.
She worked for Allied Signal Corp. in Morris Township, NJ for thirty-three years. During that time, she worked in the Patent Office and several other administrative capacities, including that of a rail car tracer at the time of her retirement.
Born May 28, 1923 in Bayonne, NJ, she was the daughter of the late George and Edna Schuller Beavis.
She and her husband, Donald M. Terp observed their twenty-first wedding anniversary last June 9th.
Carole and Don shared a love of photography for many years. They organized a photography club called the Digital Photo Club of the Lehigh Valley. She was also a member of the Photographic Society of America and was formerly a member of the West Essex Camera Club in NJ.
Private cremation and interment will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours or services.

Frances Testa, 78, of the Care Center of Lopatcong, formerly of Phillipsburg, died Tuesday, December 31, 1996 in Easton Hospital, Wilson Boro.
Born January 4, 1918 in Easton, she is the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Gugliuzza Azzalina.
She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.
Her husband, Joseph died December 14, 1982.
She is survived by one son, Charles of Potomac, Maryland; one brother, Salvatore of Bethlehem; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A daughter Marie Paini and two brothers, Anthony and Nicholas all died earlier.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:45 a.m. Friday in St. Philip and St. James Church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in the parish cemetery.

Shawn Xavier Thomas, Jr., infant son of Vanessa Rodriguez and Shwan Seymour Thomas, both of Phillipsburg, died in Warren Hospital on Sunday, March 18, 2007.
In addition to his parent, Shawn is survived by a sister, Tiara Thomas; maternal grandmother, Anna Domacasse of Phillipsburg and paternal grandmother, Cathy Thomas of Jersey City, NJ.

Pearl Thornton, 64, of Phillipsburg, died Sunday, October 20, 1996 in Warren Hospital.
She was last employed as a domestic worker for various employers in the Phillipsburg-Easton Area.
Born July 17, 1932 in Washington, Pa, she was a daughter of late Robert and Elizabeth Harris Williams.
She was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in Phillipsburg.
Her husband, Clarence S. "Bubba" Thornton died in 1974.
Survivors include a son, Richard of Phillipsburg; a daughter, Nettie Furman of Phillipsburg; a brother, Love Williams of Phillipsburg; five sisters, Laura Flowers of Phillipsburg, Geraldine Lillard and Lucielle Brown, both of Washington, Pa and Elizabeth Thornton and Armelia Gibson Williams, both of Easton, Pa; Eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter. One sister, Gertrude Williams and two brothers, Charles Watkins and Reavy Williams all died earlier.
Services will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Grace Baptist Church, 330 South Main St, Phillipsburg. A calling hour will be held Thursday in the Church from 6:30 p.m. until time of services. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
