Mrs. Kowalski came to this country on April 12, 1912 on the Titanic. She was a passenger in the steerage section of the ship with he brother, sister and mother; they were on their way to live with her father who was already in the United States. Her mother put all the children in the top bunk and began praying as if this were the end. A sailor burst through the door and carried her brother and sister with her and her mother following behind to the deck of the ship. The sailor placed the three children and the mother in a lifeboat…the mother's last recollection of the sailor was him waving goodbye as the lifeboat was lowered into the sea. The four were then picked up by the Carpathia and brought to this country.

Mrs. Kowalski attended the premier of "A Night to Remember, " a movie about the sinking of the Titanic. At this dinner they served the same meal that was offered the evening the ship sank.
