Marion E. Nerjes
ROCKAWAY TWP. – Marion E. Nerjes, 82, died on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at home.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, she resided in Rockaway Twp for 50 years.
Mrs. Nerjes was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Richard; a brother, Richard Kortmann and his wife Anja, and a sister, Karin Rannestad.
Interment will be held privately at Rockaway Presbyterian cemetery. Arrangements by Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway.
Donald H. Youker, Sr.
RANDOLPH – Donald H. Youker, Sr. died on Monday, January 9, 2012 at Seven Rivers Regional Medical Center in Crystal River, FL. He was 79.
Born in Vernon, NY, he moved to Randolph in 1982.
He served in the Air Force during Korea.
Mr. Youker was a Technical Specialist with Bell Labs in Whippany for many years prior to retiring.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marilyn, in 2010.
He is survived by five children: Don, Donna, Danielle, David and Darren Youker.
Visiting hours will be held at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway on Monday, Jan. 16 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Marcella Union cemetery, Timberbrook Rd, Rockaway.
Oscar F. "Ozzy" Mueller
ROCKAWAY TWP. – Oscar F. “Ozzy” Mueller died on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville. He was 95.
Oscar was born in Newark, NJ in 1916 and lived in Hillside, Plainfield, and Warwick, RI before moving to Rockaway Twp. in 1964. He graduated from Hillside High School in 1933.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer 1st Class during WWII. He worked as a Manufacturing Specification Engineer at Alpha Metals in Jersey City before his retirement in 1986.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rockaway. He was a member of Anchor Lodge #149 F&AM; (now Jerusalem Lodge #26 F&AM; ) for 51 years, the Scottish Rite Valley of Providence, and a Life Member of South Plainfield Craftsmen Club. He also served as past President of the Garden State Chapter of The National Square Dance Campers Association, past President, Vice President and Treasurer of the former Grand Prowler Square Dance Club, past Secretary of the former Hanover Squares Square Dance Club and a member of The Hot Garter Round Dance Club.
Oscar is survived by his wife Amy Lee of 72 years; three children, Deborah Mueller and her partner Antonette Funke of Morris Plains, Vanessa Smith and her husband Gregg of Dingmans Ferry, PA and Randee Covine and her husband Daniel of Barnegat; and; five grandchildren, Sarah Constancia Domick, Kyle Smith, and Paul, Kurt, and Kristen Covine; and his great granddaughter, Lorelei Domick.
Services are private under the direction of Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway.
Joan Ann Skutka
ROCKAWAY TWP. – Joan Ann (nee Lozo) Skutka died on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover. She was 73.
Born September 8, 1938 in Carbondale, PA, she was the daughter of the late John W. and Virginia Lillian (Weber) Lozo.
She was a resident of Rockaway Twp, NJ and Elk Lake, Waymart, PA. Mrs. Skutka was a graduate of Waymart High School, Class of 1956. She received her Baccalaureate and Master’s degrees from East Stroudsburg State College, and went on to teach in the Science Department at Morris Hills High School in Rockaway for 34 years, retiring in 1994.
On July 10, 1965 Joan married
the love of her life, Thomas Skutka. Joan loved to travel. Many of Joan and Tom’s most cherished memories were when they traveled the world together and the lifelong friendships that they have made. She was a wonderful companion and wife. Joan always thought of others before herself; and she will be greatly missed by everyone with whom she came in contact.
Joan was a member of Calvary Methodist Church in Waymart, PA, the Wayne County Historical Society, Waymart Historical Society, Elk Lake Development Assn., and the East Stroudsburg Alumni Assn. She was involved in the Monarch Migration Research Group, and was also a life member of N.J.E.A. and N.E.A.
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas J. Skutka of 46 years; her brother John W. Lozo of Waymart, PA; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway, NJ. Visitation will also be at Jenkins Funeral Home, 269 Belmont St., Waymart, PA on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Jenkins Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4 at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Canaan Corners cemetery in Waymart, PA.

Florence K. Martin
ROCKAWAY – Florence K. Martin died on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. She was 87.
Florence was born in Garfield, and moved to Rockaway Borough where she met her husband, Craig. Together they were longtime residents of Montville, and retired in Effort, PA. She returned to Rockaway eight years ago to be cared for by her family.
Florence's primary job was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and she always did it with love, kindness, patience and joy. She later worked for Marotta Valve in Montville before retiring in 1994.
She was a member of the Montville Senior Citizens and the Taylortown Ladies Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her husband, Craig, in 2008.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Schrader-VanDyke of Rockaway; two sons, Bruce Martin of Woodbridge and Glenn Martin of Rockaway; five grandchildren: Alison, Brett, Kimberly, Eric and Elana; and two great-grandchildren: Mia and Brett Jr.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 5:00 pm at Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday prior to the service from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.

John Larsen
ROCKAWAY – John Larsen died on Friday, November 25, 2011 after a long illness. He was 78.
Mr. Larsen was born in Oslo, Norway, and came to the United States in 1935, settling in Brooklyn, NY. He lived in Rockaway Twp. since 1960. He shared a residence in Rockaway Twp. and Naples, FL. John was proud of his Norwegian heritage.
Mr. Larsen served in the U.S. Air Force. He later worked as an Industrial Specialist at Picatinny Arsenal for 29 years and received many awards before his retirement in 1993. He always spoke of the good friends and co-workers he enjoyed there.
He enjoyed boating and fishing at the shore. He will be best remembered for his kindness, quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.
Mr. Larsen was predeceased by his son Ken on September 2, 2011.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen Larsen; his son, Keith Larsen; his daughter, Kim Larsen MacGillivray and her husband Kevin; and his granddaughter, Kaitlyn MacGillivray.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at Marcella Union cemetery, Timberbrook Rd., Rockaway.

Alex Roeland
ROCKAWAY – Alex Roeland died unexpectedly on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011. He was 19.
Born in Morristown, he was a lifelong resident of Rockaway Borough.
Alex worked with his father at Roeland Home Improvers in Rockaway. He loved playing the drums and working out.
Alex is survived by his parents, Arnie and Judy Roeland; his brother, Dillon; maternal grandparents, Viola Gennero and Joe Casha; paternal grandparents, Marion and Cornelius Roeland; his aunts and uncles, Joyce and Joe Campanelli, Joe and Elaina Casha, Jerry Casha, Bill and Arlene Roeland, Marion and Jimmy Rainey; and many loving cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 8:00 pm at Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway. Visiting hours will be on Thursday prior to the service from 4-8 pm at the funeral home.

Harold D. Stalter
ROCKAWAY – Harold D. Stalter died on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville. He was 74.
Born in Dover, he was a lifelong Rockaway resident.
He served in the Marines. He worked at Warner Lambert in Morris Plains and Picatinny Arsenal in Rockaway Twp. prior to retirement.
Mr. Stalter was a member of the Rockaway Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and was an avid deer hunter.
He was predeceased by eight siblings: Kenneth, John, George, Mildred Peterson, Helen Phillips, Randall, Eva Stokes and Gerald.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway at 10 am. Entombment to follow at Locust Hill cemetery, Dover. Visiting hours will be on Monday, Nov. 21 from 4:00-8:00 pm only.

Andrew J. Palka
CLIFTON- Andrew J. Palka died on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at Preakness Healthcare Center in Wayne. He was 61.
Mr. Palka was born in Caracas, Venezuela and resided in Clifton for 46 years.
He was an accountant for Montclair State University for 18 years before his retirement in 2004. He attended the Montclair Community Church and enjoyed songwriting and playing guitar.
Mr. Palka is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Laurie; three children, William J. Thiemann Jr., Christine M. Radzai, and Vanessa L. Palka; his brother John Palka; and four grandchildren, Brian and Matthew Radzai, and Alexis and Sydney Thiemann.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 23 at 10:00am at Rockaway Assembly of God, 113 E. Main Street, Rockaway. Internment will follow at Rosedale cemetery in Linden. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway.
