Ann M. James
ROCKAWAY TWP. – Ann M. James died on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville. She was 83.
Born in Rockaway, she was a lifelong resident.
Mrs. James was employed as the Borough Clerk in Rockaway Borough for many years, retiring in 1993.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway and the Golden Age Club of Denville.
She was predeceased by her husband Arthur on June 7, 2009.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Stites of Rockaway and Cindy Vickers of St. Louis, Missouri; two sisters Mary Becker of Denville and Jane Lyons of Rockaway; six grandchildren Sandra Brennan, Jennifer McLagan, Rebecca Stites, Jay and Jacqueline Gerard and Robert Vickers; and her great-granddaughter Jessica Gibbons.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Frances K. Byrnes
ROCKAWAY – Frances K. Byrnes died on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at St. Clare’s Hospital/Denville. She was 78.
Born in Jersey City, she lived in Florham Park before moving to Rockaway 9 years ago.
Mrs. Byrnes was a homemaker.
She was predeceased by her husband Michael J., Sr. in 2005.
She is survived by her daughter Kathryn A. Byrnes of Short Hills; two sons, Michael J. of Wyckoff, and Gregory of Teaneck; and two grandchildren, Mckenzie and Sean.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Rockaway. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven cemetery, East Hanover. Visiting hours will be held at the Whitham - Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway prior to the Mass on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10: 45 a.m.
James Patrick Nestor
ROCKAWAY TWP. – James Patrick Nestor died on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover. He was 82.
Born in New York City, NY he resided in Rockaway Twp. for the last 45 years.
He served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Nestor worked in shipping and receiving for Electrospec in Dover before his retirement in 1992.
He was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway where he was a Choir member for 30 years, a Senior Altar Server and member of the Seniors club. He previously coached Little League and soccer teams. Mr. Nestor was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 60 years, a past president of the White Meadow Lake Seniors, and a volunteer at the Faith Soup Kitchen in Dover. An avid Yankee fan, he chose his hospital based on the availability of the YES network.
He was predeceased by his brother John, and sisters Gertrude Struble, Helen Wilson and Ann Nestor.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Helen; two sons, Charles and his wife Melissa of Rockaway, and James and his wife Karin of Rodeo, CA; brother, Lawrence Nestor; sister, Sarah Moran; and four grandchildren, CJ, Alex, Mickey and Jackson Nestor.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 30 at 9: 15 a.m. from the Whitham - Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway to a funeral Mass at St. Cecilia’s Church, Rockaway at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Cecilia’s cemetery. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. only.

Ruth Mary Smith
ROCKAWAY – Ruth Mary Smith died on Sunday, July 25, 2010 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She was 83.
Born in Dickson City, PA, she lived in Rockaway for over 50 years.
Mrs. Smith was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway.
She was predeceased by her husband George A. in 1985.
She is survived by three sons, George B. and his wife Eugina of Rockaway, Robert G. of West Orange and James P. and his wife Lynda of Hackettstown; a daughter Ruth M. Dickey of Missouri; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Whitham - Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Anastasia (Hazel) Sinclair
SOUTHERN PINES, NC – Anastasia (Hazel) Sinclair, 92, died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at First Health of the Carolinas Hospital in Pinehurst, NC.
Mrs. Sinclair was born in 1918 in Jermyn, PA to the late Anthony and Eva Kuzma Franchak.
She was always an active member of the Orthodox faith in churches in PA, NY, NJ and FL. After moving to Southern Pines, NC she became a member of Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Church in Raleigh.
She is survived by her daughter Dolores Paterno of St. Petersburg, FL; two sons Raymond and his wife Suzanne of Southern Pines, NC and John and his wife Lida of Ann Arbor, MI; a brother Joseph Franchak of Rockaway; 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 24 at 10:00 a.m. at the Whitham – Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway. Interment will follow at Sts. Peter & Paul R.O. cemetery, Randolph. Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, prior to the funeral, from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. only at the funeral home.
Stephen J. Royek
ROCKAWAY – Stephen J. Royek died on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Kessler Rehabilitation Center in Chester. He was 85.
Born in Rockaway he was a lifelong resident.
Mr. Royek was an inventory manager with L.E. Carpenter in Wharton for 41 years before retiring in 1986.
He was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Rockaway and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Dover. Mr. Royek was also an avid Bingo player.
He was predeceased by his wife Pietrina in 2007.
He is survived by two sons, Stephen A. and his wife Linda of Mt. Laurel, and Peter and his wife Susan of Rockaway Twp.; his sister, Mary Hueston of Palm Bay, FL; and two granddaughters Megan and Molly Royek.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 16 at 9: 15 a.m. from the Whitham - Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave., Rockaway to a funeral Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Rockaway at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Locust Hill cemetery, Dover. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 -9 p.m.

William T. Cosgrove, Sr.
ROCKAWAY – William T. Cosgrove, Sr., 68, died on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem, PA.
Born and raised in Paterson, he lived in Rockaway for the last 43 years.
Mr. Cosgrove was a manager with Pathmark Supermarkets for 40 years, retiring in 2005.
He was a member of the St. Luke’s Church in Paterson and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Stroudsburg, PA.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth; daughter, Lisa Kaus and her husband James of Stewartsville; son, William T., Jr. of Rockaway; two grandsons, James and Joseph Kaus; cousins, Judy and Maryann Hart; and his beloved pet, Fergi.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 15 at 9: 15 a.m. from the Whitham - Kanapaux Funeral Home to a funeral Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Rockaway at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven cemetery, East Hanover. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 -4 and 7 -9 p.m.

Kristen "Kris" Belgrave
ROCKAWAY – Kristen Betty Lynn Johansen Belgrave, 67, died peacefully at her home on Thursday July 7, 2011.
Born in Oak Park, Illinois, she has been a longtime resident of Rockaway, where she has worked with the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts Organization and she was actively involved with the Montclair Blues Hockey Club. She also worked for many years as a clinical social worker at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic, NJ. Her hobbies included gardening, reading and travel.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jeffrey Belgrave and their three children, Matthew, Justin and Jillian, as well as her sister, Kristine Zeigler of Sylvania, GA, and nephews Paul and Michael Harris.
Visiting hours will be held at the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Avenue, Rockaway on Sunday, July 10 from 2PM to 6PM.
A funeral Mass of will be held at the Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church, 75 Ridgedale Ave., Cedar Knolls on Monday July, 11 at 10.00 am.

Arnold E. Pristernik
ROCKAWAY TWP. – Arnold E. Pristernik died on Friday, July 1, 2011 at Franciscan Oaks Nursing Home in Denville. He was 88.
Born in Maribor, Yugoslavia to the late Albin and Matilda (Deutsch) Pristernik, he lived in Paterson before moving to Rockaway Twp. in 1961.
Mr. Pristernik was a graduate of the Newark College of Engineering and worked as a mechanical engineer with Singer Kearfott in Clifton for 30 years prior to retiring.
He was a parishioner of St. Cecilia’s Church in Rockaway, a member of the Knights of Columbus of Dover, the Toastmasters, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, St. Cecilia’s Seniors club and the White Meadow Senior Citizens club.
He was predeceased by his wife Elena in 1993.
He is survived by four children: Raymond Puknys Esq. and wife Anne Puknys Esq. of Sunset Beach, NC, Dr. Edward Pristernik and wife Anne of Coatesville, PA, Dalia Puknys McKenzie and husband Thomas McKenzie of Bloomingdale, NJ, and Elizabeth Clagett and husband Martin of Richmond, VA; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Cecilia’s Church, 70 Church St., Rockaway. Inurnment will immediately follow at St. Cecilia’s cemetery.
