WOODSVILLE -- Elizabeth "Arlie" (Rowe) Covell, 79, of Woodsville, died Monday, May 28, 2001, at the Cottage Hospital, Woodsville.
Arlie was born March 13, 1922, in Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Ernest J. and Gertrude (Sample) Rowe.
She married Francis Covell April 23, 1945, and he predeceased her on July 3, 1963.
Arlie was a graduate of Lisbon High School, Lisbon, class of 1940, and she graduated from Keene State College in June of 1945.
She taught home economics at Woodsville High School, was employed by the State of New Hampshire Department of Welfare in the former Woodsville office, and from 1966 until retirement in 1984 she worked for CPM Paper Company, East Ryegate, Vt.
Arlie joined the American Legion Auxiliary Ross-Wood Unit 20, Woodsville, in 1946 and served her first term as president in 1949. She served six terms as president and served as a director of District 8. Arlie served as chair of the Girls State committee for the unit for a number of years and held several other local and state offices. An original organizer in 1976 of the Woodsville-Wells River, Vt., Fourth of July Parade, she continued as an active member and had held the office of secretary.
Surviving relatives include her companion, Newton J. Lang, Woodsville; one brother, Ivan Rowe, Madison; a niece, Linda Ferguson; and a nephew, Allan Rowe.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, May 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Ricker Funeral Home, 1 Birch Street, Woodsville.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 1, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Joseph Rinaldi officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Woodsville.

WOLFEBORO -- Terry E. (Dodier) Waterhouse, 51, formerly of Wolfeboro, died April 23, 2001, in Fort Myers, Fla., from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
She was a native of Wolfeboro, the daughter of Frank and Ruth (Churchill) Dodier of Pleasant Valley, Wolfeboro, and attended local schools. For the past 14 years, Terry has made her home in Florida. She loved to ride motorcycles and spend time planting in her gardens.
She is survived by her sons Dewayne Waterhouse, Wakefield, and Tracy Waterhouse, Wolfeboro; a granddaughter, Megan Waterhouse, Wolfeboro; her father Frank Dodier, Wolfeboro; two brothers Leonard Dodier, Rochester, and Dennis Dodier, Colchester, Conn.; a sister Pam Clifford, Wolfeboro; as well as many nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 2, at 11 a.m. at the All Saints Episcopal Church, South Main Street, Wolfeboro. Interment will be in the All Saints Cemetery, Wolfeboro.

TAMWORTH -- Ida Louise Clough, 73, of Tamworth, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway.
She was a graduate of Kennett High School, class of 1947, and a lifelong resident of Tamworth Village. She was a member of the Episcopal Church and the Tamworth Village Association. She completed a course in self-care for senior citizens in 1985 and worked in that capacity at Memorial Hospital and surrounding communities for many years. She was also a nanny for many children in the Tamworth area. Her influence will long be felt.
Ida leaves several cousins, including Wallace Kimball, of Westfield, Mass., Philip Kimball, of Feeding Hills, Mass., Margo Van Zanalt, of Lake Forest, Calif., and Karen Hull, of Agawam, Mass.
Graveside services will be Thursday, May 31, at 1 p.m. in the old Tamworth Cemetery near Ordination Rock. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
Donations may be made to the Tamworth Historical Society, Box 13, Tamworth, NH 03886, toward the construction of an archival room at the house in the field, once a part of her home.
OSSIPEE -- Barbara (Merrow) Currier, 83, of Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee, died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
Born Sept. 9, 1917, in Center Ossipee, daughter of the late Llewellyn G. and Margaret (Curtin) Merrow, she had lived in Center Ossipee all of her life.
Mrs. Currier worked as a telephone operator for AT&T for many years. She also worked for Malone Knitting Mills, Bald Peak Resort and Davidson Rubber.
She was predeceased by a son, Edwin P. Brownell, and a brother, former congressman Chester E. Merrow. She is survived by her husband, Cortland A. Currier, of Center Ossipee; her daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen (Brownell) Anderson and Robert E. Anderson, of Diamond Pond, Colebrook; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at the Chickville Cemetery in Ossipee.
The Baker-Gagne Funeral Homes and Cremation Service of West Ossipee and Wolfeboro are in charge of arrangements.
CONWAY -- Rose M. Thompson, 67, of North Conway, died May 23, 2001, at her home on Sunset Hill Road, following a long illness.
Born in Chelsea, Mass., the daughter of Michael and Lucy DeStefano, she was a long-time resident of Wilmington, Mass.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed her family, friends and golf.
The family includes her husband of 42 years, Frederick H. Thompson, of North Conway; a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Joyce) Marasco, of Fitchburg, Mass.; a son, Frederick H. and Marie (Woodland) Thompson Jr., of North Conway; a grandson, Benjamin N. Marasco, of Fitchburg, Mass.; and two brothers, Michael DeStefano, of Wilmington, Mass., and Edward DeStefano, of Revere, Mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 4, 2001, at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. There will be no visiting hours.

John B. Butler Jr., 70, of Jackson, died May 24, 2001, at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia following a long illness.
Born in Everett, Mass., the son of John and Madeline (James) Butler Sr., he grew up in Everett and lived in Malden, Mass., for several years before moving to Jackson in 1960.
He graduated from Everett (Mass.) High School, class of 1949.
Mr. Butler had been a draftsman for Raytheon Company in Massachusetts prior to moving to New Hampshire.
Jack had owned and operated the Iron Mountain House in Jackson for 40 years.
The family includes his wife of 42 years, Evelyn (Hureau) Butler, of Jackson; a son, John B. Butler III and a daughter, Evelyn A. Butler, both of Bartlett; and a brother, Robert Butler, of Nashua.
He was predeceased by his son, Mark E. Butler, in 1979, and his sister, Madalyn Doyle.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Mountains Church in North Conway. Burial will be in Jackson Village Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.

Sean Christopher O'Neill, 35, of Shreveport, La., formerly of Millis, Mass. and Sandown, NH was taken into the Arms of God on Monday, May 21, 2001. Sean was a graduate of Timberlane High School in Plaistow and served as a Sergeant in the US Army for many years, as well as serving in the Army Reserves until last year. He worked for Federal Express in Boston, Mass. and later Shreveport, La.
Sean leaves behind his wife, Lora Sims O'Neill, his beloved daughters, Christian and Elana of Shreveport, La., his best friend and brother Scott Vernon O'Neill and sister-in-law Cheryl of Manchester, his four special nieces and nephews, brothers-in-laws Marvin, Reginald, and Sheldon Sims and their three nieces and nephews, his loving parents, Robert B. and Cindy O'Neill of New Tazewell, Tenn., Mrs. Mary Ellen (O'Neill) and Wayne Klimauskas of Effingham, his beloved grandparents, George and Vera (O'Neill) Pitts of Sandown. His aunts, uncles, many cousins, family and friends also deeply mourn the loss of his presence here on Earth with us.

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Jean A. (Salvatore) Cyr, 83, of 63 Prospect Street in Worcester, Mass., died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at home after a short illness.
She is survived by two sons, Robert C. Cyr, of Jackson, and Paul L. Cyr, of Worcester.; one daughter, Leah DeLuca, of Worcester; two brothers, Joseph Salvatore, of Worcester, and Clement Salvatore Jr., of Auburn; two sisters, Elizabeth Brandli and Mary Tangney, both of Worcester; 13 grandchildren; seven great granddaughters and one great grandson; and nephews and nieces.
She predeceased by a son, Ernest D. Cyr; two daughters, Zita DeMarco and Carol Burns; and two brothers, Gregory and Carl.
She was born in Shrewsbury, the daughter of Clement and Angelina (Izzi) Salvatore, and lived in Worcester most of her life. Mrs. Cyr worked at General Electric in Ashland for many years before she retired in 1977. Along with a son, she was instrumental in the founding of the Nordic Village Resort in Jackson. She was a life member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. An Church and its Golden Years Club.
Funeral will be held today (Friday) at the Arthur S. Manzi and Son Funeral Home and Garden Chapel, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-St. Ann Church. Burial will be held at the family's convenience.

Olga Helen LaCroix, 83, a long-time resident of East Conway Road and a former resident of Stratford, Conn., died Monday, May 7, 2001, at her home.
Mrs. LaCroix was a retired factory worker for the American Chain and Cable Co., in Bridgeport, Conn., for more than 30 years. She was an avid gardener, an excellent golfer and a member of the North Conway Country Club.
First introduced to the North Country by the late George and Peg Rancourt as a vacation destination, Mrs. LaCroix and her husband eventually retired and made their permanent home here. She is survived by her daughter, Georgette Higgs, of Milford, Conn., and a grandson, Clifford Higgs, of Timberlake, N.C.
Mrs. LaCroix was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Clifford, and her parents and brothers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 12, at the Smith Funeral Home in Milford, Conn. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
