Roland O. Palmer

RYE - Roland O. Palmer, 93, of 795 Washington Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002, at Webster at Rye.

He was born July 15, 1909, in Waterbury, Conn., the son of the late Oscar and Augusta (Swenson) Palmer and had resided in Rye since 1986.

He was a 1927 graduate of Crosby High School, Waterbury, and a 1933 graduate of New Haven University.

Mr. Palmer was an accountant for the Chase Brass & Copper Company, Waterbury, from 1927 until 1971.

He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Newington, and of Zion Lutheran Church, Waterbury.

The widower of Virginia N. (Houston) Palmer, his wife of 60 years who died in 1999, he is survived by one daughter, Marilyn V. Marchant of Rye; one son, Steve S. Palmer of York, Maine; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 22 Fox Run Road, Newington, NH 03801 or to Webster at Rye, 795 Washington Road, Rye, NH 03870.

Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

George A. Place Sr.

NORTH BILOXI, Miss. - George A. Place Sr., 68, of Kingston Drive, formerly of Route 125, Epping, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at his home.

He was born in Portsmouth the son of the late John J. and Alma (Buckman) Place and had resided in Epping and North Biloxi for 15 years.

Mr. Place was a custodian at the University of New Hampshire.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Epping, and Sacred Heart Church, Biloxi.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie (Latour) Place of North Biloxi; three sons and their wives, Thomas and Deborah Place of Newmarket, Terry L. Sr. and Linda Place of Epping and George A. Jr. and Barbara Place of Derry; one daughter and her husband, Eva and Kenneth Stilson of North Biloxi; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday in North Biloxi.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping, at a later date, and will be announced by the Brewitt Funeral Home.

Meagan Pamela Silver

SEABROOK - Meagan Pamela Silver, infant daughter of Christopher G. Silver and Victoria Lee Fiandaca, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her siblings, Shayna and Christopher Silver and Blake Fiandaca; her maternal grandparents, Robert and Ramona Fiandaca of Shapleigh, Maine; her paternal grandparents, Wayne and Shirley Tilton of Newmarket and Louis and Beverly Silver of Salisbury, Mass.; and several aunts and uncles.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Pamela Sue Budwell-Bowmar.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, 24 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton. Family and friends may visit from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Seabrook.

Elizabeth M. Staniels

MANCHESTER - Elizabeth M. (Mitchell) Staniels, 92, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, in Catholic Medical Center after a brief illness.

She was born May 9, 1910, in Manchester, the daughter of Lawrence J. and Mary (Martin) Mitchell and had been a summer resident of Hampton Beach for many years.

She was a 1927 graduate of Manchester Central High School.

Mrs. Staniels was a finance clerk at the Veterans Administration Regional Office for more than 20 years.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

The widow of Henry E. Staniels, who died in 1944, she is survived by one daughter, Mary E. "Betty" Staniels of Hampton; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Horan of Hazlet, N.J., and Helen Joyce of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Robert Staniels, who died Aug. 4.

Calling hours will be held Friday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. in the McHugh Funeral Home, 483 Beech St., Manchester.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to N.H. Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 686, Manchester, NH 03105, to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Bldg., 360 Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5031, or to the charity of one's choice.

Jerry W. Belmonte

KINGSTON - Jerry W. Belmonte, 87, of Scotland Road, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, in Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born April 18, 1915, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late Antonio and Angelina (Capone) Belmonte. He was a longtime resident of Exeter, had resided in Northwood for six years and in Kingston for 18 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the marching band while in the service.

Mr. Belmonte opened a barber shop on Water Street in Exeter in 1947 and since his retirement he continued to work part time at two Exeter shops until two weeks ago.

He was a communicant of Mary Mother of the Church, Newton, and was a member of the church choir.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Barbara (Tuck) Belmonte of Kingston; two sons, Richard "Rick" Belmonte of Deerfield and Charles Belmonte of Brentwood; two stepdaughters, Cecily McNair of Epsom and Rosemary Milewski of Martha's Vineyard, Mass.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Lena Lannon of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Lincoln and Front Streets, Exeter. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Kingston.

A reception will be held following the burial at St. Michael Church in Cotter Hall.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Elizabeth R. Boxold

DOVER - Elizabeth R. Boxold, 77, of 276 County Farm Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002, at Riverside Rest Home.

She was born Feb. 25, 1925, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of the late Robert L. and Elizabeth J. (O'Connors) Degnan. She was raised in Cranston, R.I., moving to Dover in 1984.

She attended Hope High School.

Mrs. Boxold was a sales clerk for the former Zayres department store for many years.

She was a former member of St. Paul Church in Cranston.

The widow of Roy D. Boxold Sr., she is survived by one son, Roy D. Boxold Jr. of Exeter; two grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Degnan of Warwick, R.I.; one sister, Marie Gavigan of North Providence, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held in Oakland Cemetery, Cranston.

Arrangements were by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.

Lucy E. Bume

STRATHAM - Lucy E. Bume, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at Exeter Healthcare after a lengthy illness.

She was born April 20, 1918, in Stratham, the daughter of the late George E. and Edith M. (Wentworth) Chapman and was a lifelong resident of Stratham.

She was a 1935 graduate of the former Robinson Female Seminary, Exeter.

Mrs. Bume was employed at Lane Memorial Library in Hampton for many years.

She was past president of the Unity Club and the PTA in Stratham; a member of Stratham Community Church; and a Friend of the Wiggin Memorial Library, Stratham.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne B. Cole of Kensington and Judith E. Burke of Penobscot, Maine; one son, James E. Brown of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth Reid of Barrington, R.I.; two brothers, Reginald Chapman of Kingston and George S. Chapman of Georgia; a longtime friend, Evelyn Barker of Stratham; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Carrol Brown, who died in 1943; and her second husband, Rudolph L. Bume, who died in 1993.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at 10 a.m. in Stratham Community Church with the Rev. Mark Strickland officiating. Private burial will be in Maple Lane Cemetery, Stratham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wiggin Memorial Library, 10 Bunker Hill Ave., Stratham, NH 03885 or to Stratham Community Church, Emery's Lane, Stratham, NH 03885.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Rita D. Collins

HAMPTON - Rita D. (Bouffard) Collins, 82, died Aug. 30, 2002, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born Oct. 16, 1919, in Canada, the daughter of Zenophile and Diana (Ferland) Bouffard. She had resided in Pinardville for most of her life moving to Hampton in 2001.

She was a member of the Catholic War Veterans Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, Dr. Roger Collins of Hampton; two daughters and their husbands, Irene and Robert Larivierre of South Walpole, Mass., and Lucille and Nicholas Karatsas of Hampton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Theresa Gariepy of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Edmond Church, Parish of the Transfiguration, Manchester. Entombment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Manchester.

Arrangements are by the J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, Manchester.

Madalyn M. Conant

NORTH HAMPTON - Madalyn Mae Conant, 94, of 32 Granite Post Green, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at her home after a period of failing health.

She was born Dec. 16, 1907, in Newport, Maine, and had resided in New Hampshire since 1939, moving to Stratham in 1956 and to North Hampton in 1987.

She was a graduate of Newport High School and a 1928 graduate of Gorham Teachers College, Portland, Maine, where she received her diploma in elementary education.

Mrs. Conant taught grammar school in Maine and did some substitute teaching at the former Wentworth Acres School. She was employed for several years at the University of New Hampshire assigned to the dining room staff at Huddleston Hall.

She was a member of Stratham Community Church and of the Unity Club.

The widow of Herbert "Herbie" Conant, who died in 1987, she is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Ann and Bob Watson of Greenland and Marlene and Warren Hodgdon of Portsmouth; two sons, Dick Conant and his wife Beverly of East Wakefield and Bobby Conant of North Hampton; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sally Halliday of Silver Spring, Md., and Marvis Heintz of Falls Church, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Stratham Community Church. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Stratham.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.

Richard Cull

HAMPTON - Richard Cull, 69, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, at his home after a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born Oct. 8, 1932, in Mechanicville, N.Y., the son of the late Santo and Assunta (Iavazzo) Ciulla. He had resided in Lynnfield, Mass., before moving to Hampton.

He was a graduate of Fort Schuyler Maritime College with a degree in engineering and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Mr. Cull was an executive at General Electric Co., retiring after 40 years of service.

He was an avid skier and enjoyed traveling.

He is survived by four children, Carlton R. Cull of Scottsdale, Ariz., Brian D. Cull and Diane M. Wolenski, both of Hampstead, and Jeffrey S. Cull of Plymouth, Mich.; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy McGuire of Mechanicville and Agnes Storey of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; several nieces and nephews. and his companion, Sheila M. Doyle of San Clemente, Calif.

He was predeceased by one brother, Carlton Ciulla.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, Canton, OH 44720.

Arrangements were by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
