Karen E. Nissen
EXETER - Karen Egidia Nissen, 99, died Sunday, July 7, 2002, at the Eventide Home, Exeter, where she had been a resident since 1997.
She was born July 23, 1902, in Horsens, Denmark, the daughter of Adolf and Karen Moeller. She came to the United States to be married and had resided in Metuchen, N.J., before coming to Exeter.
She was a graduate of the Technical Institute, Copenhagen, Denmark.
Mrs. Nissen worked for the Hahne & Co. Department Store in Newark, N.J., for many years, retiring in 1968. She had previously had a 10-year career in the Danish Postal Service.
She was a member of the United Church of Christ, North Hampton, and a member of the North Hampton Ladies Union. She delivered Meals on Wheels in Metuchen for 20 years, until the age of 93.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and traveling. She was one of seven children, most of whom lived into their 90s, one sister reaching the age of 101.
The widow of Carl E. Nissen, her husband of 44 years who died in 1973, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, Karin and Hal Moulton of North Hampton; one son and his wife, Eric and Boutsaba Nissen, until recently of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Friday, July 19, at 3 p.m. in United Church of Christ, 295 Atlantic Ave., North Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Eventide Home, 81 High St., Exeter, NH 03833 or to the charity of one's choice.

Dorothy Pray
EXETER - Dorothy (Rock) Pray, 96, of 2 Webster Ave., died Monday, July 8, 2002, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood, after a brief illness.
She was born Nov. 30, 1905, in Brentwood, the daughter of the late Joseph and Hellen (Garside) Rock. She was raised in Amesbury, Mass., and had resided in Exeter for more than 50 years.
She was a 1923 graduate of Amesbury High School.
Mrs. Pray was an office worker at Phillips Exeter Academy from 1942 until 1972.
She joined the Amesbury Grange in 1922 and the Exeter Grange in 1949. She belonged to all seven degrees and had served as Master, Overseer, Lecturer, Gatekeeper and Flora.
She had been Master of the East Rockingham Pamona and had been home economics chairman for Subordinate and Pamona Granges. She held the Subordinate Lectures Role since 1957 and attended all the annual New England Lectures Conferences. She was presented the 1998 Grange Week Appreciation Award and was the N.H. Granger in 1975. The Exeter Town Report was dedicated to her in 2000.
Mrs. Pray was an active member of the Exeter Senior Citizens, helped deliver Meals on Wheels and sold taxi tickets in Exeter for many years.
She was active in church groups as well as the Rebekahs and the Women's Relief Corps Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic. She joined the Moses N. Collins Relief Corps No. 36 of Exeter in 1974 and was treasurer for many years, marching in parades and taking part in memorial services, flag burning ceremonies, and entertaining residents at the N.H. Veterans Home. She served as treasurer for State and Patriotic Instructor.
She was a member of the Kut-Ups for 30 years and was active in the "Notes." She was instrumental in the building of the Rockingham Home Chapel.
The widow of Roland Pray, who died in 1964, she is survived by two sons and their wives, Roland P. and Elinor Pray of Fairport, N.Y. and Richard E. and Bette Pray of Hampton; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 27, at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, Front Street, Exeter. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Burial will be in West Brentwood Cemetery.

Emma J. Trees
HAMPTON - Emma J. Trees, 101, formerly of Lafayette Road, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at SunBridge of Exeter.
She was born Feb. 19, 1900, the daughter of the late Tom and Mina (Illingsworth) Jackson. After immigrating to this country she resided in Lawrence, Mass., moving to Hampton in 1957.
Mrs. Trees was a mender at the former Pacific Mills in Lawrence for many years.
She was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Lawrence, and a former member of the George Chadwick Music Club, Lawrence.
She was a soprano soloist at Hampton United Methodist Church and in Lawrence at St. Paul's Methodist Church and the Unitarian Universalist Church.
The widow of Harry J. Trees, who died in 1983, she is survived by two grandchildren, William A. Durr of Basking Ridge, N.J., and Susan Durr-Brenan of Westfield, N.J.; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granson.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Buff Durr, who died in March.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Hampton United Methodist Church, 525 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Methuen, Mass.
Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, Hampton.
Thea E. Brown
EXETER - Thea Ellen Brown, 46, of Watson Road, died Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Oct. 30, 1955, in Newport, the daughter of Edwina (Castellini) Stevens of Newport and the late Royce Stevens, and had resided in Exeter since 1985.
She was educated in Newport schools and served with the U.S. Coast Guard for eight years, retiring as a machinist technician second class.
Mrs. Brown was a parts manager for Toyota of Exeter and the Honda Barn in Stratham for several years.
She was a member of Bethany Christian Church, Greenland.
She loved animals and enjoyed bowling with her Monday Night League at Exeter Bowling Lanes.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of 18 years, Wilbert Brown of Exeter; two sisters, Sally Smart of Guild and Joanne Lundenville of Claremont; two nephews and one grandnephew.
Graveside services were held Saturday in Pine Grove Cemetery, Guild.
Memorial donations may be made to the N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885.

Mabelle G. Clocher
HAMPTON FALLS - Mabelle G. Clocher, 92, of Drinkwater Road, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at her home.
She was born Dec. 27, 1909, the daughter of the late Arthur A. and Caroline (Dwyer) Morin and resided in Haverhill, Mass., before retiring to New Hampshire.
She was educated in Haverhill schools and attended McIntosh Business School.
Mrs. Clocher was an office manager for many years and with her friend Alice, she owned and operated the Alice-Mae Shop in Haverhill.
She loved baking, traveling and spending time with her family. She took joy in knitting infant sweaters and blankets for her family, charity groups and families serving in the armed forces.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and was an active member of RSVP; the Seabrook Women's Club; Hampton Falls Grange; and was a life member of the Happy Seniors. She was a former member of St. James Parish, Haverhill.
The widow of Ernest J. Clocher, who died in 1984, she is survived by one son and his wife, Robert E. and Shirley Clocher of Seabrook; one daughter and her husband, Janet M. and Leo Poisson of Hampton Falls; two brothers, Leo Morin of Bradford, Mass., and Albert Morin of Kingston; four sisters, Helen St. Onge of Newton, Irene Veroneau of Haverhill; Loretta Steer of Newton and Mary-Rose Cerat of South Pine, N.C.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one sister and four brothers.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill, Mass.

Madolyn S. Davis
EXETER - Madolyn S. Davis, 77, of 1 Deer Run Road, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Exeter Healthcare, Inc.
She was born July 29, 1924, in Chelsea, Mass., the daughter of the late John A. and Gladys (Fraser) Spencer. She resided in Concord, Mass., for 30 years, moving to Exeter in 1987.
Mrs. Davis was a homemaker.
She was a member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ of Brentwood.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Alan C. Davis of Exeter; two sons, Wayne C. Davis of Hampton and Spencer W. Davis and his wife Jackie Rockel of Exeter; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, Roger A. Davis, who died in 1970.
There are no calling hours.
Services were held Monday in Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Brentwood. Burial was in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord, Mass.

Annie M. Fortier
EXETER - Annie M. Fortier, 96, died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at Exeter Healthcare, Inc., after a brief illness.
She was born May 30, 1906, in Exeter the daughter of the late Albert and Delia (White) Denoncour and was a lifelong resident of Exeter.
Mrs. Fortier was a fancy stitcher for Wise Shoe Co. for many years.
She was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter.
The widow of Arthur J. Fortier, who died in 1971, she is survived by one son, Arthur J. Fortier Jr. of Exeter; two daughters, Beverly Hamilton of Hudson and Sr. Charlotte Ann Fortier of Windham; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Eldon Denoncour of Exeter; and many nieces and nephews.
A calling hour will be held Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church. Burial will be in Exeter Cemetery.
Beatrice G. Fredericks
BEDFORD - Beatrice G. Fredericks, 98, a former 30 year resident of Hillside Road, North Hampton, died Thursday, July 11, 2002, at the Ridgewood Center where she made her home the past 1 1/2 years.
She was born June 17, 1904, in Nova Scotia, Canada, the daughter of the late William and Mary (Gray) Andrews. She had resided in Seabrook before moving to North Hampton.
Mrs. Fredericks and her husband owned and operated the former Fredericks Motor Court on Route 1 in Seabrook from the mid 1940s continuing its operation after her husband's death into the late 1960s.
She was a member of Trinity United Church, Seabrook, and was a 48-year member of Orient Chapter No. 22, Order of Eastern Star, Exeter.
The widow of C. Herbert Fredericks, who died in 1958, she is survived by one son, William A. Fredericks of Goffstown; two stepdaughters, Louise Weinhold of Salem and Muriel Lessard of Winthrop, Mass.; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one son, Harold Andrews; one stepson, Christian H. Fredericks Jr.; one stepdaughter, Dorothy Bachini; four brothers; and three sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory with the Rev. Diane Pierce, pastor of Trinity United Church, Seabrook, officiating. Burial followed in Union Cemetery, Amesbury, Mass.
Eastern Star services were conducted Sunday in the funeral home by Orient Chapter No. 22 of Exeter.
