Betty L. Emmons
KINGSTON - Betty L. Emmons, 69, of 9 Coopers Grove Road, died Monday, April 15, 2002, in Exeter Hospital.
She was born Dec. 2, 1932, in Swampscott, Mass., the daughter of the late Oscar and Vera (Lovering) Guimond. She had resided in Lynn, Mass., most of her life moving to Kingston in 1990.
She attended Lynn English High School and was an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Herbert W. Emmons; two sons, Kenneth W. Emmons and Mark W. Emmons, both of Kingston; one daughter, Gail A. McIsaac of Lynn; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Guimond of Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her twin sister, Barbara Finnerty.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Merina B. Fontaine
EXETER - Merina B. (Boisvert) Fontaine, 98, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at SunBridge of Exeter where she had lived for five years.
She was born Dec. 22, 1903, in Salmon Falls, the daughter of Alexandre and Marie (Parent) Boisvert and had lived in Newmarket for many years before moving to Exeter.
Mrs. Fontaine was a fancy stitcher for Royce Shoe Shop, Newmarket.
She was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter, and was a former member of St. Mary Church, Newmarket. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court Hector Benoit, of Newmarket; the Ladies of St. Ann; and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Exeter.
The widow of Wilfred Fontaine, her husband of 53 years who died in 1980, she is survived by one son, Armand W. Fontaine of Exeter; one daughter and her husband, Theresa and Rene St. Germain of Methuen, Mass.; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one grandson, Jamie Fontaine, who died in 2001; one sister, Julia Dufour; and four brothers, Joseph, Gerard, Merrill and Albert Boisvert.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Lincoln Street, Exeter. Burial will follow in New Town Cemetery, Rollinsford.
Arrangements are by the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket.
Mabel K. Hanson
HAMPTON - Mabel K. Hanson, 86, of 22 Tuck Road, died Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at Seacoast Health Center.
She was born Aug. 17, 1915, in Nova Scotia, Canada, and had resided in Winchester, Mass., for many years before moving to Kingston in 1978.
She was educated in Nova Scotia schools.
Mrs. Hanson was a homemaker and was a member of First Congregational Church of Kingston.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, P. Roland Hanson of Hampton; one son and his wife, Richard and Cheryl Hanson of Lincoln, Mass.; and two grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one daughter, Joyce E. Hanson, who died in 1993.
There are no calling hours.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in First Congregational Church of Kingston, 8 Church St., Kingston. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Kingston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Deacon's Fund, First Congregational Church of Kingston, 8 Church St., Kingston, NH 03848.

Branden L. Lafayette
DANVILLE - Branden L. Lafayette, 10 weeks old, of Colby Road, died suddenly Tuesday, April 16, 2002, in Parkland Medical Center, Derry.
He was born Feb. 4, 2002, in Exeter, the son of Jesse C. Lafayette and Nicole A. Provost of Danville.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Linda Provost of Hampstead and Armand Provost of Hudson; his paternal grandparents, Dale and Donna Lafayette of Kingston; his great-grandparents, Jesse C. Lafayette of Epping, Jacque and Anne Boisvert of Lowell, Mass., and Claire Provost of Canada; and several aunts and uncles, including Shawn and Cherry Lafayette of Danville, with whom he made his home.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, with the Rev. Wendall Irvine officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Kingston.
Carol A. Lincoln
NEW CASTLE - Carol A. (Gilbert) Lincoln, 63, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002.
She was born Oct. 25, 1938, in Plymouth, Mass. During World War II she resided in Florida and Washington, D.C., before moving to Natick, Mass. She came to Portsmouth in 1972 and also had a home on Cape Cod.
She was a graduate of a high school in Natick and a graduate of Bates College, Lewiston, Maine. Upon graduating she entered the Filene's Buyer Training Program.
Mrs. Lincoln began her career as a buyer for Filene's in Boston and Bloomingdale's in New York. She then taught retailing at Mount Ida College in Newton before moving to Portsmouth in 1972 when she became director of merchandising for the Guild of Strawbery Banke.
She was an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church and was a volunteer with the Friends of Odiorne Point and Science Center; Portsmouth Women's College Club; the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce; the Warner House; the Guild of Strawbery Banke; the Portsmouth Visiting Nurses Association; the New Castle Conservation Committee; the Bass River Yacht Club of Cape Cod; and the Guild at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
She was honored with the First Volunteer Humanitarian Award from Portsmouth Regional Hospital earlier this year.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Ralph M. Lincoln of New Castle; one son and his wife, Charles C. and Christen Olson; three grandchildren; and two brothers, Timothy Gilbert and John Gilbert.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church, 101 Chapel St., Portsmouth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church; The Guild at Portsmouth Regional Hospital to establish a nursing scholarship; the Warner House Association; the Friends of Odiorne State Park or to the charity of one's choice.

Thomas Magoun
WEST LEBANON - Thomas Magoun, 71, died Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at Brookside Nursing Home in Hartford, Vt.
He was born April 29, 1930, in Worcester, Mass., the son of the late Roger and Ethel (Wakefield) Magoun. He had resided in Winchester, Mass., for 13 years and in Hampton for 30 years before retiring to West Lebanon in 2000.
He attended the Bancroft School in Worcester and was a graduate of Governor Dummer Academy, Byfield, Mass., and Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine.
Mr. Magoun was a stock broker with Reynolds and Company of Boston for many years.
He was very active with the alumni associations of Bowdoin College and Governor Dummer Academy.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed traveling and trains.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Savage) Magoun of West Lebanon; one daughter, Susan Marland of Spofford; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Ricker Funeral Home, 56 School St., Lebanon.

Scott W. McDonald
DOVER - Scott William McDonald, 36, of 32 Arrowbrook Road, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, at his sister's home in Eliot, Maine, after a courageous 10 year battle with cancer.
He was born Feb. 23, 1966, in Exeter, the son of John J. McDonald of Hampton and Betty Baxter McDonald of Dover.
He was a 1985 graduate of Oyster River High School and attended Northern Essex Community College in Haverhill, Mass.
Mr. McDonald was employed by Spud's Restaurant in North Hampton and had previously been employed by Weathervane Seafood for many years.
He was a volunteer for Big Brothers/Big Sisters and had been the recipient of the Big Brother of the Year award.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Kathleen M. Hebden of Eliot; three brothers, John J. McDonald Jr. of Hampton, Peter F. McDonald of North Hampton, and Joseph P. McDonald of Seattle, Wash.; and eight nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Bethany Church, 500 Breakfast Hill Road, Greenland. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Edward L. Brown
SEABROOK - Edward L. Brown, 67, of 67 Collins St., died Saturday, April 20, 2002, in Exeter Hospital.
He was born Sept. 21, 1934, in Seabrook, the son of the late James A. and Irene I. (Fowler) Brown and was a lifelong resident of Seabrook.
Mr. Brown enjoyed watching all types of sports, especially baseball, and his walks through Seabrook.
He is survived by three brothers, Carlton Brown of Oregon City, Ore., and James Brown and Freddie Brown, both of Seabrook; two sisters, Mabel Silver of Newburyport, Mass., and Margaret Quimby of Seabrook; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family in their time of need.

Lowell M. Cartmill
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Lowell (Freck) M. Cartmill, 73, died Wednesday, April 17, 2002, in Northside Hospital & Heart Center, St. Petersburg.
He was born in Stockwell, Ind., the son of Thomas T. and Ida B. (McDole) Cartmill. He moved to Florida in the late 1940s and to Exeter in the 1950s before retiring in Florida.
He was a graduate of Jefferson High School, Lafayette, Ind., and attended Perdue University where he was a member of the varsity basketball team.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Cartmill owned and operated Lincoln Street Real Estate for more than 10 years and then worked for Century 21 Hennessey Real Estate & Associates until his retirement.
He was a member of the N.H. Realtors Association and an American Legion baseball coach in the 1960s, coaching Carlton Fisk.
He was an avid fan of the Florida Buccaneers, the Boston Celtics and the Boston Red Sox. He enjoyed playing cribbage.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Beverly (Allen) Cartmill; one son, Jack L. Cartmill of Oregon; one daughter, Diane C. Martin of Concord; five stepchildren, JoAnn Clark of Greenland, Kim Smith and Scott Trueman of Raymond, Glen Trueman of Exeter and Lisa Trueman of Florida; several grandchildren and stepgrandchildren; one sister, Alys Dickerson of Indiana; one brother, Max Cartmill of California; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Andress and Rhea Anderson of Indiana; and two brothers, Thad Cartmill of Michigan and John Cartmill of Indiana.
After cremation a memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 1, at 11 a.m. at Grandy Beach in St. Petersburg.
Memorial donations may be made to any children's sports team.
