Rita P. James
HAMPTON - Services for Rita (Palmer) James, 83, of Hopkins, Minn., will be held Saturday, March 2, at 1 p.m. in First Congregational Church, Winnacunnet Road, Hampton.
Mrs. James died Feb. 14, 2002, in Hopkins. She was a direct descendant of one of the first settlers of Hampton.
In addition to her two daughters, two sons, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, she is survived by her brother, Ansell Palmer of Hampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hampton Historical Society, 40 Park Ave., Hampton, NH 03842.

Wilfred G. Lebeau
KEENE - Wilfred "Pete" G. Lebeau, 67, of Court Street, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, in Cheshire Medical Center, Keene.
He was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Newmarket, the son of Claudio and Clarisse (Archambeault) Lebeau and lived most of his life in Newmarket moving to Derry in 1982 and recently to Keene.
Mr. Lebeau was employed by Sam Smith Shoe, Royce Shoe and Rockingham Shoe in Newmarket.
He was a communicant of St. Mary Church, Newmarket, and was a former member of Lamprey Aerie, No. 1934, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Newmarket.
He enjoyed painting and string art.
He is survived by one brother, Raymond Lebeau of Newmarket; three sisters, Theresa Mailhot of Epping, Doris Chapman of Newmarket and Yvonne Cassell of Milo, Maine; one aunt and uncle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by one brother, William Lebeau.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.
A funeral prayer service will be held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. John Finnigan officiating. Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

Lucille M. Morin
EPPING - Lucille M. Morin, 76, of Elm Court, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002, in Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Epping, the daughter of the late Eva (Morin) McFadden.
She was a 1943 graduate of Epping High School and attended the Mary Fazio Beauty School, Lawrence, Mass.
Miss Morin owned and operated Beautyland Salon in Haverhill, Mass., for 25 years and had previously worked in several local shoe shops.
She served as the Epping ballot clerk.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, Epping, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and worked as a fund raiser.
She was a member of the Ray-Fre Senior Citizens Center in Raymond where she enjoyed line dancing.
She is survived by several cousins including Paul Guy of Epping.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Route 27, Epping. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping.

Lorrie J. Nannis
HAMPTON BEACH - Lorrie Jayne Nannis, 43, died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2002, in Exeter Hospital.
She was born in Meriden Conn., the daughter of Edward and Norma J. (Robinson) Nannis of Hampton Beach. She had been a longtime resident of Salem before coming to Hampton Beach and had wintered in Delray Beach, Fla., for 12 years.
Miss Nannis enjoyed music and participating at the Debbie Voter Center in Salem.
She won a silver medal in the New Hampshire Special Olympics.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by an aunt and several cousins.
Graveside services were held Saturday in Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen, Mass.

Brian D. Rhuland
ROCHESTER - Brian D. Rhuland, 49, of 2 McIntyre Court, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, after a sudden illness.
He was born July 21, 1952, in Portsmouth the son of Maynard R. Rhuland of California and the late Priscilla J. (Ashworth) Rhuland. He was raised in Exeter and had lived in Rochester for 12 years.
He was a graduate of Exeter High School.
Mr. Rhuland was employed by Rockingham County Nursing Home for 11 years.
He was a member of Christ Church Episcopal, Exeter.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Theresa (Callahan) Rhuland of Rochester; one son, Brian Rhuland Jr. of Milton; one daughter, Jessica Rhuland of Berlin; one brother, James Rhuland of Arlington, Texas; one aunt, Sherry Glover of Raymond; members of his wife's family; and many nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held Tuesday at the Brewitt Funeral Home, Epping, with the Rev. John Denson officiating.

Warren D. Sawyer Jr.
NEWMARKET - Warren D. "Junior" Sawyer, 66, of New Road, died Feb. 14, 2002, in Exeter Hospital. He had recently had by-pass heart surgery.
He was born July 11, 1935, in Exeter, the son of Warren D. Sr. and Ruth M. (Watson) Sawyer. He was the fifth generation to live at the Watson family homestead that overlooked the mouth of the Lamprey River and Great Bay.
He was a 1953 graduate of Newmarket High School.
Following his graduation, Mr. Sawyer worked for H. Roby Jewell transporting livestock between farms throughout New England. He worked for the Newmarket Public Works Department for 20 years and as an equipment operator for Ernie Currier Construction, retiring in 1998.
He loved working the land of his farm and the waters of the Bay. For more than 50 years he hayed fields, cut firewood, raised fruit, vegetables and livestock. He began raising sheep when he was 6 and still owned four ewes descended from his family's original stock.
Mr. Sawyer enjoyed attending local county fairs, he especially loved to watch the oxen- and horse-pulling events.
Well-known for his "kitchen bait & tackle shop," he supplied local fishermen and bait shops as far north as Berlin. He assisted many smelt fishermen in getting their bobhouses to the channel of the Lamprey and got them off before the ice went out. He was the local almanac of the tides and smelt runs.
He is survived by his companion, Brenda Stevens; and nine first cousins, John Sawyer of Davenport, Fla., Thomas Sawyer, Joan Curtis and Dorothy Jackson, all of San Antonio, Texas, Robert Sawyer of Trenton, N.J., Carolyn Staniec and Lena Thursby, both of Philadelphia, Emily Campbell of California and Joan.
Funeral services were held Monday in the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home with the Rev. David Wuori officiating. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.
In celebration of his life, a fund has been established to benefit local youth farming, hunting and fishing programs and memorial donations may be made to the Warren D. Sawyer Jr. Memorial Fund, c/o Trustees of the Newmarket Trust Funds, 77 Exeter Road, Newmarket, NH 03857.
Madelaine G. Smith
EXETER - Madelaine G. Smith, 90, of 7 RiverWoods Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, in Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness.
She was born May 4, 1911, in Boston, the daughter of the late William and Florence (Walcott) Goodhue. She was raised in Winchester, Mass., and had resided in Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania before coming to Exeter.
She attended Winchester schools and was a graduate of Radcliffe College, Cambridge, with a degree in social work.
Mrs. Smith was the director of social services for Bryn Mawr Hospital, Bryn Mawr, Pa., and for Devon Manor Nursing Home, Devon, Pa., for 30 years.
The widow of Utley W. Smith Sr., who died in 1995, she is survived by one son, Utley W. Smith Jr., of Windham; one daughter, Janet Smith of Florence, Italy; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are by the Cremation Society of New Hampshire.
John J. Bocci
NEWBURYPORT, Mass. - John J. Bocci, 81, of 43 Liberty St., died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at his home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1921, in Newton, Mass., the son of the late Carmine and Maria (Martino) Bocci.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Bocci was a maintenance man at the Newburyport post office.
The husband of the late Anastacia (Kiman) Bocci, he is survived by one son, Robert Bocci of Newburyport; one daughter Jo-ann Bocci of Hampton; three grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Newburyport. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, Newburyport.
Arrangements were by the Twomey-LeBlanc Funeral Home, Newburyport.
Muriel B. Brett
LACONIA - Muriel B. Brett, 82, of 175 Blueberry Lane, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2002, at the Genesis Eldercare Network, Laconia Center.
She was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Exeter, the daughter of William and Amelia B. (Martineau) Tardiff. She lived in Bristol for several years and in Laconia for 37 years.
The widow of Ernest A. Brett, who died in 1992, she is survived by two daughters, Sandra B. French and her husband Gordon of Bristol and Gail B. Guertin of Concord; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother and sister.
Graveside services were held Thursday in Exeter Cemetery.

Isabel H. Colwell
SOMERSWORTH - Isabel H. Colwell, 90, of 207 Green St., died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002, at SunBridge of Rochester.
She was born Jan. 22, 1912, in Hampton, the daughter of the late Warren H. and Theda (Taylor) Hobbs. She resided in the Hampton-Stratham area for many years, summering at Plaice Cove in Hampton. She had resided in Somersworth for six years coming from Brunswick, Maine.
She was a graduate of Hampton Academy and attended Chandler School in Boston.
Mrs. Colwell was a homemaker.
She was a member of First Congregational Church of Hampton; the Order of the Eastern Star of Exeter; the Hampton Historical Society; and the Hampton Monday Club.
She was well known for her hand hooked rugs.
The widow of William E. Colwell, who died in 1982, she is survived by two daughters, Carolyn T. Lydiard of Somersworth and Judith C. Parker and her husband John of Brunswick; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Annie Elliott of Kennebunkport, Maine.
She was predeceased by one sister, Dorothy H. Cummings.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
