John D. Forsberg Sr.
ROCHESTER - John D. Forsberg Sr., 75, of 5 Falkland Lane, formerly of 57 Mountain View Terrace, Rye, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, as the result of an automobile accident in Epping.
He was born Aug. 8, 1926, in Worcester, Mass., the son of Bert A. and Vera (Bergland) Forsberg.
He attended Worcester Academy and was a U.S. Navy veteran serving with the Seabees. He served in the South Pacific Campaign and was in one of the first battalions to land on Nagasaki 10 days after the dropping of the atom bomb.
Mr. Forsbgerg owned and operated Jamar Drilling and Blasting Co. and was involved in the explosive industry for more than 50 years. He was currently working as an explosive inspector for Delta Gulf in Londonderry.
He was involved with his grandchildren's sporting activities; was a former member Abenaqui Country Club, Rye Beach; enjoyed fishing and the ocean. He was a New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan.
He is survived by his wife, Marianne (Farrell) Forsberg; one son and his wife, J.D. and Sue Forsberg Jr. of North Hampton; two daughters, Linda Forsberg-Bean of Wakefield and Susan Anderson and her husband Ron of Stratham; 11 grandchildren; one brother, William Forsberg of West Boylston, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son, Michael J. Forsberg, who died in 1993.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth.

Kenneth R. King
PORTSMOUTH - Kenneth R. King, 86, of 47 Lois St., died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre.
He was born Dec. 3, 1915, in Deerfield, the son of Howard P. and Mabel (Hill) King.
He was a 1934 graduate of Coe-Brown Academy, Northwood, and attended the University of New Hampshire.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theatre aboard an LST.
Mr. King was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring as reactor plant foreman in 1976 after 36 years of service. He participated in more than 14 sea trials while employed at the shipyard.
He was a member of Middle Street Baptist Church, Portsmouth.
Mr. King's baseball playing and coaching career included four years of varsity baseball at Coe-Brown Academy; with the Barrington Orioles; the Durham Wildcats; Hampton All Stars; Portsmouth City Team, where he played and coached; Patterson's Painters, Portsmouth; the Groveton, N.H. Twin State League; the Frank E. Booma Post No. 6, American Legion, Portsmouth where he coached and played for the senior team and was junior legion coach; and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard team. He was signed by the Boston Braves and played at Evansville, Ind., Three I League; Owensboro, KY, Kitty League and Sidney Mines, Nova Scotia.
He was drafted into umpiring during the 1948 American Legion Baseball Tournament and was behind the plate and base paths for high school, prep schools, Babe Ruth, N.H. American Legion and semi-pro games ever since. He served as committee chairman for the Protest Committee as well as supervisor of umpires in the American Legion State Baseball Program.
He was received the Union Leader NH Sunday News John R. Clark Officials Award in 1999-2000.
He was a charter member of the N.H. Umpires Association; a member of the American Legion Baseball Committee; the N.H. American Legion Baseball Umpires Association; the ALBBUA Protest Committee; and was ALBBUA supervisor of Umpires American Legion Baseball.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Geneva (Pearson) King of Portsmouth; one daughter and her husband, Janice and Richard Clark of Storres, Conn.; three grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Ann King Malin of Rochester; one brother, Roger C. King of Deerfield; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son, Richard A. King, who died in 1996.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth.

Rita P. James
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Rita Palmer James, 83, of the Hopkins Care Center, Hopkins, Minn., died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at the center.
She was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Exeter, the daughter of Charles D. and Bernice (Glidden) Palmer of Hampton. She was a direct descendant of William Palmer, one of the first settlers of Hampton.
She was a 1936 graduate of Hampton Academy and a 1939 graduate of Deaconess Hospital Nurses Training in Boston.
After a brief period as a nurse in Boston Mrs. James joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and in 1940 was assigned to Clark Field Hospital in the Philippines. From there she served in World War II field hospitals on Bataan and Corrigidor in the Philippines until the American surrender, in which she was wounded and taken prisoner. She spent three years as a prisoner of war in Santa Tomas until the American liberation in 1945. She was the recipient of the Purple Heart and Oak Leaf Cluster.
The widow of Lloyd James, she is survived by two daughters, Katherine Mullin of Minneapolis and Barbara Wagar of Eugene, Ore.; two sons, Douglas James of Durham, N.C., and Richard James of Minneapolis; six grandchildren; two great-grandchhildren; and one brother, Ansell Palmer of Hampton.
Memorial services will be held in the Congregational Church in Hampton at a date to be announced.

Elsie M. Pimental
EXETER - Elsie Mae Pimental, 75, formerly of 277 Water St., died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Exeter Healthcare after a period of failing health.
She was born Feb. 2, 1927, in Amesbury, Mass., the daughter of the late Edwin H. and Ruth F. (Murray) Meserve. She resided in Chicopee and Ludlow, Mass., for many years, moving to Exeter three years ago.
She was a graduate of Amesbury High School.
Mrs. Pimental was a bookkeeper for Sears in Exeter and for Amesbury area businesses.
She enjoyed playing bingo, sewing and knitting.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Kenneth J. Pimental; three sons, Laurence K. Dobson of Exeter, Myron K. Dobson of Kingston and Glenn F. Dobson of Cumming, Ga.; five grandchildren; one brother, Edwin Meserve of Kensington; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter. Burial was in Mount Prospect Cemetery, Amesbury.

Margaret N. Semprini
BRENTWOOD - Margaret Norma Semprini, 81, of 8 Michael Bennett Road, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at her home.
She was born April 14, 1920, in Rye, the daughter of William and Sarah (Burchill) Walsh.
She was a graduate of Robinson Female Seminary, Exeter.
Mrs. Semprini was a homemaker.
She was a founding volunteer at the Great Bay School and volunteered at Brentwood schools.
She enjoyed ceramics and CB radio.
She was a member of the Sons of Italy, Portsmouth Lodge No. 2303.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ralph Semprini; two daughters and their husbands, Joan and Alfred Margro of Deltona, Fla., and Sarah "Sally" and George McKenna of Portsmouth; one son and his wife, John and Cynthia Semprini of Exeter; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eileen Semprini of Madbury, Jean Miksch of Penn Valley, Calif., and Jacqueline Salvatore of Dover; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one sister, Constance Hankin.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Central Road, Rye Beach. Burial will be in Central Cemetery, Rye.

Louis L. Siegal
DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Louis L. Siegal, 87, of Exeter, died Saturday Feb. 16, 2002, in Delray Medical Center.
He was born July 12, 1914, in Medway, Mass., the son of the late Joseph and Annie (Dobkin) Siegal. He had resided in Framingham, Mass., before moving to Exeter in 1987.
He was educated in Boston schools.
Mr. Siegal was employed for Drakes Bakery, now Borden Corp., for many years.
He was a member of Temple Emanu-El in Haverhill, Mass.; the Senior Center in Framingham and Exeter; and the Bakers Union.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eva (Waldman) Siegal; two sons and their wives, Michael and Marguerite Siegal of Hampton and Gerald and Phyllis Siegal of Bloomfield, Conn.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Siegal of San Antonio, Tex.; one sister, Ida Dudar of Randolph, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 1:45 p.m. in Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon, Mass.
A memorial observance will follow the graveside services on Wednesday at the home of Jodi Hemmer, 4 Myrna St., Framingham, Mass.

Lloyd D. Atkins
STRATHAM - Lloyd D. Atkins, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, in Haverhill, Mass.
He was born Jan. 30, 1922, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of the late Lloyd N. and Sadie (Mills) Atkins. He had resided in Milford, Conn., before moving to Stratham five years ago.
He was educated in New York elementary schools, was a 1940 graduate of Milford High School and received a degree in industrial design from the Pratt Institute.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Austria where he was captured by German soldiers and was a prisoner of war for 21 months.
Mr. Atkins was a designer for Stueben Glass Co. for more than 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy G. (Shepard) Atkins of Stratham; one son and his wife, Brian D. Atkins and Ruth Lopez of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; two daughters, Loren Hunt and her husband, Phillip of Haverhill and Dale Atkins of Brentwood; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, Haverhill.
Donald Evans
EXETER - Largely attended funeral services for Donald Evans were held Tuesday in Christ Church Episcopal. The Rev. John E. Denson, assisted by the Rev. Caroline V. Hines, officiated at the service. Isabel Gray and the Rev. Robert Thompson were the soloists. Mary Hamlin Spencer was the organist.
Members of the Exeter Country Club, the Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, workers from the Seabrook Hardware Store and many Exeter High School class members of 1981 and 1984 were in attendance.
Words of remembrance were by Mr. Evans' daughter, Leslie, and Maureen Barrows.
American Legion services were conducted by acting commander Al Fogarty, Jack Strom and Stan Haywood in the funeral home on Monday evening. They presented Leslie Evans with a bible.
Military burial followed in Exeter Cemetery with committal prayers by Rev. Denson. The flag was presented to Leslie Evans.
Pall bearers were Mr. Evans' brothers, Sam Evans, Harold Evans, Richard Evans and Mike Evans, and Cal Barrows, John Hennessey, William Millar and Jeffery Evans.
Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.
Dorothy L. Hunter
HAMPTON - Dorothy L. Hunter, 92, formerly of Mill Road, died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Seacoast Health Center.
She was born Sept. 2, 1909, in Tampa, Fla., the daughter of the late Howard and Mabel (Meares) Street.
Mrs. Hunter and her late husband owned and operated hotels and restaurants at Hampton Beach for many years. She was later a bookkeeper/secretary for Colt's News Store in Hampton.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Women's Guild of the church; the Hampton Historical Society; the Hampton Monday Club; and the GFWC-NH State Federation.
The widow of Douglass E. Hunter Sr., a former New Hampshire State Senator who died in 1969, she is survived by one son and his wife, Douglass E. Jr. and Sarah Hunter of Hampton; and one brother, Howard Street of Silva, Mo.
There are no calling hours.
Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in First Congregational Church, 127 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton. Private interment will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
