M. Rose Richard
EXETER - M. Rose Richard, 81, of 91 Epping Road, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.
She was born April 5, 1919, in Epping, the daughter of the late Rose Currier Donovan, and had resided in Exeter for 50 years.
She was educated in Epping schools.
Mrs. Richard provided daycare for her family.
She was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter.
The widow of Gerard P. Richard, who died in 1996, she is survived by one son, Robert Richard of Stratham; three daughters, Patricia Brewitt of Wolfeboro, Marianne Gage of Rayne, La., and Teresa Brake of Eliot, Maine; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Exeter. Burial will be in Exeter Cemetery.

Dorothy M. Cote
EXETER - Dorothy May Cote, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at her home.
She was born July 9, 1914, in Hudson, the daughter of the late George and Lillian (Wade) Pratt and had resided in Exeter for many years.
Mrs. Cote was a box maker at the former Chase Shawmut Co. in Newburyport, Mass., for many years.
She was an avid bingo player at the Frank Jones Center.
She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Dorothy and Ronald Jennell of Exeter; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At Mrs. Cote's request there will be no services.

Albert Grappone
CONCORD - Albert Grappone, 87, of Pleasant Street, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Concord Hospice House.
He was born in Concord the son of Rocco and Emanuella (D'Orlando) Grappone and lived in Exeter for more than 60 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a 2nd class motor mechanic in the 1022 Seabee detachment.
Mr. Grappone was a mechanic and owned and operated Exeter Pontiac and Exeter Sand and Gravel and was part owner of Grappone Automotive in Concord.
The widower of Ann (Cozzi) Grappone, who died in 1991, he is survived by one brother, John Grappone of Concord; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, James V. Grappone and Robert M. Grappone; and three sisters, Helen Ceriello, Philamina Simmonella and Rose Monacella.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 135 North State St., Concord.
Memorial donations may be made to Concord Hospice House, P.O. Box 1797, Concord, NH 03302-1797 or to the charity of one's choice.

Margaret O. Johnson
EXETER - Margaret O. Johnson, 90, of 17 Hampton Road, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.
She was born Dec. 15, 1910, in Danvers, Mass., the daughter of the late Daniel J. and Sarah E. (Walsh) Johnson. She resided in Salem, Mass., for many years before moving to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1970. She had summered in Hampton since 1957 and returned to live in Exeter in 1996.
Miss Johnson was an operator for the former New England Telephone Co. for 47 years.
She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth Weinhold of Exeter and Sally Wholley of Brentwood; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Burial will be in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
Sophia Larabee
NEWMARKET - Sophia Larrabee, 85, of Wadleigh Falls Road, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.
She was born July 25, 1915, in Newmarket, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Gadomski) Grochmal.
Mrs. Larrabee was the bookkeeper at Asbury Park Press, Asbury, N.J. for 15 years.
She is survived by four brothers, Joseph Grochmal of Exeter, Bernard Grochmal of Durham, Fred Grochmal and John Grochmal, both of Newmarket; one sister, Helen Hoik of Newmarket; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket, with the Rev. David Wuori officiating. Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.

Frank A. Lester
NEWMARKET - Frank Andrew Lester, 82, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at his daughter's home.
He was born in Tower Hill, Pa., and had resided in Waltham, Mass.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring in 1971. During World War II he was involved in the invasion of North Africa, Sicily, Anzio and southern France. He was then transferred to the Pacific Theater for the invasion of Okinawa and the Japanese surrender. He spent most of his wartime duties aboard destroyers, notably as a gun chief on the USS Ludlow.
Following his retirement from the service he worked in security at Awkwright Insurance Co., Waltham, and as a handyman.
The widower of Lois (Johnson) Lester, his wife of 53 years who died in 1999, he is survived by one daughter, Winona Hudanish of Newmarket, with whom he made his home; two grandchildren; two sisters, Pauline Hales of Akron, Ohio, and Stella Stemoch of Warren, Ohio; two brothers, Joseph Lester and George Lester, both of Warren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Krepps, Martha Ticch and Helen Straynock; and two brothers, John Lester and Adam Lester.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Church, Newmarket. Military burial will be at 2 p.m. in Westlawn Cemetery, Littleton, Mass.

J. Ralph Nesbitt
SEABROOK - J. Ralph Nesbitt, 85, of 29 Tricia St., died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Exeter Hospital.
He was born Aug. 16, 1915, in Lawrence, Mass., the son of the late George and Martha (Zahn) Nesbitt and had resided in Seabrook since 1981.
He was educated in Lawrence schools and was a graduate of Lowell Technical Institute.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Nesbitt was a pattern weaver in the woolen mills in Methuen, Mass., and retired from Davis & Furber Foundry in 1981. Following his retirement he worked in the security department at Merrimack College until 1991.
He was a communicant of St. Monica Church while living in Methuen and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Greenwood Post No. 8349 of Methuen.
He is survived by one sister, Ruth B. Nesbitt of Seabrook; three nephews; and several cousins.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Star of the Sea Church, 18 Beach Road, Salisbury, Mass.

Louis C. Rudolph
MELROSE, Mass. - Louis C. "Rudy" Rudolph, 89, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.
He was born Nov. 2, 1911, in Plymouth, Mass., the son of the late Jacob A. and Emily (Campbell) Rudolph and had resided in Melrose for 49 years.
He attended Shenandoah College in West Virginia and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Boston University where he was a member of the baseball, football and track teams.
Mr. Rudolph taught physical education and shop at the Coolidge School, Melrose, for 31 years, from 1945 until 1976, where he coached football, baseball, basketball and hockey.
He was active in recreational sports and coached several hockey teams. He was a member of the Massachusetts Referee Association and officiated high school football games throughout the state. He served on the board of directors of the Minuteman Council, Boy Scouts of America.
He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Mount Hood Golf Course.
Mr. Rudolph was a longtime member of First Congregational Church, Melrose.
The widower of Laura (Richmond) Rudolph, he is survived by two sons, William. L. Rudolph of Plymouth and Richard C. Keating of Melrose; one daughter, Nancy R. Keating of Stratham; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Frederica Johnson of Kingston, Mass., and Louise Bolster and Annie DiMestico, both of Canton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Eugene and Albert Rudolph.
Funeral services were held Monday in First Congregational Church, Melrose. Burial was in Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth.

Lillian B. Wicker
CHESTER, Va. - Lillian G. Wicker, 80, of Rivers Bend Circle, formerly of Exeter Mill Apartments, Exeter, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, in John Randolph Hospital, Hopewell, Va.
She was born July 17, 1920, in Brockton, Mass., the daughter of the late Sidney and Ola (Geilear) Cowell and was a longtime resident of the Plaistow-Kingston area.
Mrs. Wicker owned and operated the Lilac & Lace Gift Shop in Exeter for several years. She was also the head bookkeeper at Western Electric in Andover, Mass.
She was a communicant of Holy Angel Church, Plaistow.
The widow of George W. Wicker, she is survived by one brother, James P. Cowell of Kingston Springs, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
There are no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in Holy Angel Church, Plaistow. Spring burial will be in Holy Angel Cemetery, Plaistow.
