Sarah G. Smith
EXETER - Sarah G. Smith, 71, of RiverWoods Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, in Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness.
She was born April 19, 1929, in Hartford, Conn., the daughter of Newell and Louise (Wyatt) Garfield and had resided in Exeter for 5 1/2 years. She summered in Cuttyhunk Island, Mass.
She was a graduate of Miss Porter High School and Vassar College, where she received her bachelor of arts degree in political science.
Mrs. Smith worked for the Central Intelligence Agency for several years before her marriage.
She enjoyed writing.
The widow of Peter H. Smith, who died March 25, 2000, she is survived by two daughters, Sarah Smith and Lisa Wright, both of Portland, Maine; one son, Peter H. Smith Jr. of San Diego, Calif.; two grandchildren; two brothers, Newell Garfield of Blue Hill, Maine, and Wyatt Garfield of Princeton, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Christ Church Episcopal, 43 Pine St., Exeter. Private burial will be in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cuttyhunk Methodist Church, Cuttyhunk, MA 01713.
Arrangements are by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.
Patricia Souther
SEABROOK - Patricia Souther, 82, a former longtime resident of South Main Street, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, in Concord Hospital.
She was born Nov. 28, 1918, in Lawrence, Mass., and had resided in Seabrook from 1953 until 1993 when she moved to Epsom Manor, Epsom.
She was a graduate of Lawrence schools.
Mrs. Souther worked for Souther Shellfish for several years and for the former Ideal Laundry in Amesbury, Mass.
The widow of Abram P. Souther, who died in 1987, she is survived by one son and his wife, Abram and Nancy Souther of Epsom; her twin sister, Catherine Eaton of Amesbury, Mass.; one brother, Nicholas Frank; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by one brother, Steven Frank.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Wildwood Cemetery, Seabrook.
Austin H. Wagstaff
HAMPTON FALLS - Austin H. Wagstaff, 65, of 23 Victoria Drive, formerly of Exeter and Marblehead, Mass., died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Wagstaff was employed by A.C. Lawrence Leather Co. of Danvers, Mass., for many years, and by Victor Graphics of Baltimore, Md., and Office Supplies New England.
He is survived by his wife, Susan (Gerrish) Wagstaff; one son, Thomas Wagstaff of Wrentham, Mass.; two daughters, Cynthia MacLeod of Hampton Falls and Katherine Shoubash of Bow; and seven grandchildren.
At Mr. Wagstaff's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

Joseph A. Adamski
BEDFORD - Joseph Alexander Adamski, 75, of 11 Old Coventry Lane, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at his home after an extended illness.
He was born March 20, 1925, in Exeter, the son of Margaret (Novak) Adamski of Exeter and the late Ignacy Adamski. He resided in Framingham, Mass., for 46 years, moving to Bedford last year.
He was a 1943 graduate of Exeter High School and received his engineering degree from N.H. Tech.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II serving as a member of the first wave at Omaha Beach in Normandy. He served a second tour of duty in the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Adamski owned and was president of Parke Mathematical Co. of Lowell, Mass., retiring two years ago. He was previously employed as an electrical engineer for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the Lincoln Labs and worked at Rome Labs at Hanscomb Air Force Base growing crystals in the research and development department for more than 20 years.
He held several patents in electronics. and was listed in Who's Who in American Scientists. He had published many technical papers and spoke at many international conferences.
He enjoyed collecting model trains and sailing.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Christa (Priemel) Adamski of Bedford; two daughters and their husbands, Carleen and Steven Korkin of Bedford and Robin and Richard Arrighi of West Palm Beach. Fla.; four grandchildren; four stepchildren, Jean Maurice, Brenda Barrows, James Barrows and Michael Barrows; one brother, Theodore Adamski of Exeter; one sister, Pearl Lancaster of Wells, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife of 43 years, Peggy (Ciccola) Adamski, who died in 1991.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Exeter. Military burial will be at 1 p.m. in Edgell Grove Cemetery, Framingham.

Anne Bacon
EXETER - Anne Bacon, 80, died Tuesday, January 27, 2001, at SunBridge Care.
She was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Vladivostak, Russia, the daughter of the late Simon and Hrepcema "Ruth" (Kaprelian) Torosian. She was a longtime resident of Oakland Street, Newburyport, Mass., and had resided in Exeter for four years.
She was a 1938 graduate of Newburyport High School.
Mrs. Bacon worked for General Electric Corp., Lynn, Mass., for more than 27 years and was a library assistant at the Newburyport Public Library.
She was an active member of Belleville Congregational Church, Newburyport, in doing volunteer work.
She was an air raid warden in Newburyport during World War II. She enjoyed crafts, flower arranging, cooking, the beach and traveling.
The widow of William A. Bacon, who died in 1996, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, Sandra R. and Patrick Seekamp of Brentwood; three grandchildren; one brother, Eprem Torosian of Amesbury, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at Simplicity Burial & Cremation Services, 287 High St., Newburyport. Funeral services will follow at noon.
Albertine Brideau
SEABROOK - Albertine Brideau, 91, of 4 Whittier Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.
She was born Nov. 9, 1909, in Amesbury, Mass., the daughter of the late Napoleon and Odile (LeClair) Hamel and resided in Amesbury for most of her life, moving to Seabrook six years ago.
Mrs. Brideau was a fancy heel coverer for New England Wood Heel in Amesbury for almost 50 years, until the factory closed. She then worked for the Stride Rite Shoe Factory in Newburyport, Mass., for 10 years.
She was a lifelong communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Amesbury, and was active with the Amesbury and Seabrook Senior Citizen Clubs.
She is survived by two sons, Norman J. Hebert of Fremont and Robert Hebert of North Hampton; four daughters, Yvonne Losilot of Blackwell, Mo., and Shirley Clocher, Sheila Vaivoda and Helen McGary, all of Seabrook; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday in Sacred Heart Church, Amesbury.

Norman R. Howcroft
NEWMARKET - Norman R. Howcroft, 78, of Spring Street, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001 in Exeter Hospital.
He was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Exeter, the son of Herbert and Elizabeth (Kelly) Howcroft.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II stationed with the IX Air Defense Command and fought at Normandy.
Mr. Howcroft retired from the Macallen Co., Newmarket, and was previously employed at Sam Smith Shoe for many years.
He was a 42 year member of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post No. 67 in Newmarket; the Veterans of Foreign Post No. 15030; and the American Rifleman Association.
He is survived by three sons, Norman "Buzzy" Howcroft of Epping, Michael Howcroft of Milton and William Nisbet of Newmarket; three daughters, Norma E. Howcroft of Newmarket, Kathleen R. Taveirne of Russell, Minn., and Brenda Norris of Walden, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Donald Howcroft of Newmarket; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. American Legion services will be held at 7 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held Friday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.

Ernest Pelletier
NEWMARKET - Ernest Pelletier, 84, of Lamprey River Park, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at the Veterans Home in Manchester.
He was born Sept. 5, 1916, in Newmarket, the son of Alex and Rose Alma (Martel) Pelletier and was a lifelong resident of Newmarket.
He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II.
Mr. Pelletier was a shoe worker at Rockingham Shoe and Sam Smith Shoe, both in Newmarket, and Alrose Shoe in Exeter.
He was a 56 year member of the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post 67 and the Newmarket Historical Society.
He was a communicant of St. Mary Church, Newmarket.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jackie (Cardin) Pelletier of Newmarket; two brothers, Phillip Pelletier of Columbus, Ohio, and Raymond Pelletier of Epping; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. A Funeral Prayer Service will be held at 3 p.m. and American Legion services will be held at 4 p.m.
Spring burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket.
Leonard W. Philbrick
OCEANSIDE, Calif. - Leonard W. Philbrick, 75, died December 20, 2000, at his home.
He was born May 19, 1925, in Newmarket, the son of Herbert G. and Edna R. (Pariseau) Philbrick. He was raised in Newmarket and had resided in Oceanside for 38 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Medical Corps.
Mr. Philbrick retired from the Oceanside School District in 1985 after 23 years of service.
He was a member of Mensa; the California Teachers Association; the Zoological Society of San Diego; the San Diego Society of Natural History; the Newmarket Historical Society; the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post No. 67 in Newmarket; and was on the Advisory Council of Mira.
He is survived by two brothers, Richard Philbrick of Niskayuna, N.Y. and Herbert J. Philbrick of South Berwick, Maine; one sister, Doris Mullen of Dover; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.
