Leonard W. Philbrick
OCEANSIDE, Calif. - Leonard W. Philbrick, 75, died December 20, 2000, at his home.
He was born May 19, 1925, in Newmarket, the son of Herbert G. and Edna R. (Pariseau) Philbrick. He was raised in Newmarket and had resided in Oceanside for 38 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the Medical Corps.
Mr. Philbrick retired from the Oceanside School District in 1985 after 23 years of service.
He was a member of Mensa; the California Teachers Association; the Zoological Society of San Diego; the San Diego Society of Natural History; the Newmarket Historical Society; the Robert G. Durgin American Legion Post No. 67 in Newmarket; and was on the Advisory Council of Mira.
He is survived by two brothers, Richard Philbrick of Niskayuna, N.Y. and Herbert J. Philbrick of South Berwick, Maine; one sister, Doris Mullen of Dover; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. Spring burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newmarket.

Margaret C. Sherry
WARWICK, R.I. - Margaret Claire (Conway) Sherry, 87, of 272 Sea Meadow Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, in Kent County Memorial Hospital, Warwick.
She was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Cumberland, R.I., the daughter of the late John and Julia (Casey) Conway, and had resided in Portsmouth, R.I.
Mrs. Sherry was a secretary for the former Berkshire Hathaway Co. of Manville, R.I., from 1931 until 1940.
She was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church, Portsmouth, and was a member of St. James Church, West Warwick where she was past president of the Mothers Club of the church. She was a volunteer in many school and church activities.
The widow of John W. Sherry, she is survived by one son, James T. Sherry of Boulder, Colo.; three daughters, Claire Duva of No. Kingstown, R.I., Ann Warnock of Exeter and Patricia McCarthy of Portsmouth; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Conway and Eugene Conway, both of Cumberland, R.I.; three sisters, Rita Moran Byrnes of Cumberland, Mary Hayes of Westwood, Mass., and Barbara Brown of Rutland, VT.,
She was predeceased by one daughter, Mary M. Dingwell; one brother, John Conway; and one sister, Dorothy Goodier.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday in St. Barnabas Church, Portsmouth. Burial was in St. Columba Cemetery, Middletown, R.I.

Albert H. Splittorff
DANBURY, Conn. - Albert H. Splittorff, 93, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Harborside-Glen Hill Healthcare, Danbury.
He was born July 11, 1907, in Stamford, Conn., the son of the late Einar J. and Anna Marie (Jensen) Splittorff. He resided in Darien, Conn., for 33 years. Following his retirement he moved to Hampton where he lived for 27 years.
He was a graduate of Stamford High School, the American College of Banking and Rutgers University School of Banking in 1949.
Mr. Splittorff retired in 1972 as vice president of Union Trust Co. after 46 years in the Darien main office. He began his banking career in 1926 with the Home Bank and Trust Co. as a bookkeeper. He was appointed assistant trust officer in 1931.
He was treasurer of the Salvation Army, the Kiwanis Club, the Darien Chapter of the American Red Cross, the Darien High School Advisory Committee, the R.T.M. and the United Fund. He was a member of the Woodway Country Club and the Tokeneke Club.
He was a member of the Noroton Presbyterian Church and the Hampton United Methodist Church.
The widower of Helen Splittorff, his wife of 62 years who died in 1999, he is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Karen S. and Gregory M. Daignault of Wilton, Conn., and Kathy S. and Malcolm K. Mackenzie Jr. of Chester, Conn.; one son, Kurt A. Splittorff of Hampton; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, William Splittorff of Norwalk, Conn.; one sister, Ellen Eike of Quakertown, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at 10 a.m. in Noroton Presbyterian Church, 2011 Post Road, Darien, Conn.

Doris E. Musumeci
SEABROOK - Doris E. Musumeci, 64, of Cross Beach Road, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
She was born Oct. 3, 1936, the daughter of the late Samuel and Harriette (Sargent) Bagley and lived in Seabrook for many years.
The widow of Robert T. Musumeci, who died October 27, she is survived by three sons, Jeffrey L. Abrahams of Rochester, Robert T. Musumeci Jr., and Joseph S. Musumeci, both of Seabrook; six grandchildren; one brother, Charles Bagley of Seabrook; and two sisters, Alice Eaton and Thelma Newgard, both of Seabrook.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.
Betty F. Stevens
KINGSTON - Betty Field Stevens, 67, of Main Street, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Canaan, the daughter of the late Raymond and Violet A. (Neily) Field and had resided in Windsor, Vt., moving to Kingston 40 years ago.
Mrs. Stevens taught elementary school in Claremont for six years and in Hampton for one year.
She was a charter member of Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Brentwood.
She enjoyed fishing the Exeter River, doing puzzles and playing cribbage.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Richard S. Stevens of Kingston; two sons, Richard S. Stevens II of Kingston and Raymond J. Stevens of Shrewsbury, Mass.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Lorden of Boscawen and Judith Dubreuil of North Springfield, Vt.; one brother, Raymond Field of Largo, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at 1 p.m. in Pilgrim United Church of Christ, Brentwood.

George Beesley
EXETER - George Beesley, 83, of RiverWoods Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at the Lodge at RiverWoods.
He was born Aug. 6, 1917, in Chicopee, Mass., the son of the late Frank M. and Jessie E. (Miles) Beesley. He had resided in Lynnfield, Mass., for 55 years before moving to Exeter five years ago.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor of arts degree. He served as president of the Alumni Association, Class of 1939.
Mr. Beesley was the founder of Beesley Associates, a management consulting business in Boston, and served as president for 20 years.
He was a member of the Lynnfield School Committee and was active on the school building committee and other town organizations.
He was an active member of Centre Congregational Church, Lynnfield.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor (Cook) Beesley; two sons, Richard C. Beesley of Atlanta, Ga., and Peter Beesley of Marblehead, Mass.; one daughter, Martha Gardner of Atlanta; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in Centre Congregational Church, Lynnfield.

Lillian Garceau
EXETER - Lillian (McLean) Garceau, 99, of Sherwood Forest, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Charlwell House, Norwood, Mass.
She was born April 28, 1901, in New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Mullin) McLean and had resided in Jamaica Plain, Mass., before coming to Exeter.
Mrs. Garceau retired from R.H. Stearns and had also been employed by Salada Tea.
The widow of Frederick D. Garceau, she is survived by two friends, Josephine Parker of Exeter and Dorothy N. Cook of Westood, Mass.
Funeral services were private. Burial was in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.
Arrangements were by the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter.
George W. Lonergan Jr.
PORTSMOUTH - George W. Lonergan Jr., 71, of 140 Court St., died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, in Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 6, 1929, in Boston, the son of George and Drucilla (Carter) Lonergan. He had resided in Point Pleasant, N.J., before moving to Portsmouth 10 years ago.
He was a graduate of Millburn (N.J.) High School and attended Georgetown University, Newark College of Engineering and Union Junior College.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Lonergan was employed by Torwico Electronics from 1956 until retiring in 1989.
He had a great appreciation for music and enjoyed movies, reading, the New York Jets, the New York Yankees and the New York Times.
He is survived by one sister, Mary J. Coombs of Greenland; two brothers, Peter J. Lonergan and Martin P. Lonergan, both of Hampton Falls; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth.
Arlene C. Marcotte
EPPING - Arlene C. Marcotte, 88, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.
She was born Nov. 19, 1912, in Epping, the daughter of the late Arthur and Jeanette (Johnson) Tarleton and was one of 16 children. She resided in Epping for most of her life, and had lived in Hampton briefly before moving to the nursing home.
She was a 1931 graduate of Epping High School.
Mrs. Marcotte was employed by Sam Smith Shoe Co., Newmarket, for many years.
She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Daughters of the American Revolution in Epping.
The widow of Earl N. Marcotte Sr., who died in 1982, she is survived by two daughters, Irene Cote of Epping and Betty Poliquin of Hampton; two stepsons, Earl N. Marcotte Jr. of Texas and Kenneth Marcotte of Barrington; one stepdaughter, Audrey Castle of Exeter; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Hersom of Rochester; three brothers, Donald Tarleton of Somersworth, Olen Tarleton of Rochester and Richard Tarleton of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Wayne VanGundy officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Epping.

Eldora L. Morel
EXETER - Eldora L. (Denoncour) Morel, of 277 Water St., died Dec. 29, 2000, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, Brentwood.
Mrs. Morel was a longtime resident of Epping, and had resided in Exeter for 10 years.
The widow of Theodore Morel, she is survived by one brother, Eldon Denoncour of Exeter; one sister, Ann Fortier of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Albert, Herbert and Norman Denoncour; and three sisters, Veronica Demasky, Helen Graney and Evelyn Kearns.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated January 1 in St. Joseph Church, Epping, with the Rev. Ronald Corriveau as celebrant. Spring burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping.
