Norma H. Gifford
DURHAM - Norma Hutchinson Gifford, 89, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, in Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro.
She was born in Little Deer Isle, Maine, the daughter of the late Edward and Lillian (Bray) Hutchinson. She had resided on her farm in Stratham for 35 years before moving to Durham.
She was a graduate of Rockland (Maine) High School and Burdett College, Lynn Mass.
Mrs. Gifford was an executive secretary at the University of New Hampshire before her retirement.
The widow of John R. Gifford, former principal of Pembroke High School and a teacher and counselor at Portsmouth High School, she is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Dale G. and Robert D. Scott of Wareham, Mass., and Dianne G. and Daniel H. Monahan of New Durham; one son and his wife, John H. and Paula P. Gifford of Annapolis, Md.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held January 20, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of the Community Church of Durham, Main Street, Durham.

James D. Hamilton
HAMPTON - James D. Hamilton, 66, of 15 Hackett Lane, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, in Exeter Hospital.
He was born April 20, 1934, in Morgan City, Louisiana, the son of the late Joseph DeVance and Nellie (Sessions) Hamilton.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the security agency at Ft. Devens, Mass., from 1956 until 1959.
Mr. Hamilton was employed in circulation management for more than 30 years at several newspapers across the country, most notably the Baltimore Sun. He later worked for the State of New Hampshire at the Seabrook Visitor Center on Interstate 95.
He was a member of Faith Community Church; St. James Lodge No. 102 F.&A.M.; served on the Hampton and Hudson Budget Committees; was a past president of the former Hampton Kiwanis Club; a former member of the Hampton Lions Club; and was a former volunteer firefighter in Hudson.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Florence R. (Vickery) Hamilton; two sons and their wives, Donald E. and Linda Hamilton of Springvale, Maine, and Brian K. and Janet Hamilton of Berwick, Maine; three daughters, Erin K. Hutchings of Kittery, Maine, Vicki L. Johns and her husband Dee and Kerri E. Hilton, all of Hampton; nine grandchildren; one brother, Thomas D. Hamilton of Morgan City; one sister, Elizabeth Thompson of Gretna, La.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one son-in-law, Bruce Hutchings; and one brother-in-law, Cameron Thompson.
Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory with the Rev. Robert Lovejoy, pastor of Faith Community Church, officiating. Burial was in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Albert H. Jones Sr.
MADBURY - Albert H. Jones Sr., 83, formerly of Hayes Road, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Riverside Rest Home, Dover, where he had resided for three years.
He was born Feb. 26, 1917, in Durham, the son of Henry and Eulie (Danforth) Jones. He was raised in Durham and lived in Madbury from 1979 until 1996.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II.
Mr. Jones was a construction foreman and was last employed by Midway Excavating in South Hampton.
The widower of Florence (Burrows) Jones, who died in 1993, he is survived by three sons, Albert Jones Jr. of Huntsville, Ala., Richard Jones of Murphy, N.C., and Gregory Jones of Stratham; two daughters, Sharon Coughlin of Center Barnstead and Sheila Fernald of Madbury; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday in the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, Newmarket. Spring burial will be in Durham Cemetery.

Francis G. Laurent
NORTH READING, Mass. - Francis G. Laurent, 48, of 1 Country Club Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Vencor Hospital, Peabody, Mass.
He was born Nov. 30, 1952, in Amesbury, Mass., the son of the late Horace and Mary (Dufour) Laurent.
Mr. Laurent was enrolled in the Compass Enterprizes Day Program in Melrose, Mass.
He is survived by one brother, Ted Laurent of Exeter; three sisters, Annette Laurent of Haverhill, Mass., Renee Soucy of Amesbury, and Ruth Laurent of Bradford, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., Amesbury. Calling hours will be held Saturday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service.

Ronald H. Mitchell
EXETER - Ronald H. Mitchell, 70, of 8 C Vine St., died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at his home after a sudden illness.
He was born June 1, 1930, in Trenton, N.J., the son of the late Herbert and Elizabeth (Smith) Mitchell. He had resided in New York moving to Exeter in 1977.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Mr. Mitchell was a custodian at Exeter High School.
He was a member and past commander of the American Legion Post in Hudson, N.Y.
The widow of Ann T. (Clark) Mitchell, who died in 1993, he is survived by one son and his wife, William and Mary Mitchell of Dover; one daughter, Kathleen Mitchell of Manchester; two grandchildren; and two brothers and one sister.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday in St. Michael Church, Exeter. Burial was in Exeter Cemetery.

Charles K. Nutter
EXETER - Charles K. Nutter, 84, of 13 Prentiss Way, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at his home.
He was born Aug. 16, 1916, in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late Harry and Ruth (Kaulbach) Nutter and resided in Haverhill for many years, moving to Ocala, Fla., in 1985 and to Exeter in 1996.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Nutter worked for Haverhill National Bank for many years and for the New Hampshire Sweepstakes Commission in the director's office.
The widower of Mary R. (Armitage) Nutter, he is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard F. Nutter of Exeter and Charles K. and Kathy Nutter Jr. of Newburyport, Mass.; one daughter and her husband, Maryann and Charles E. Pottle of Exeter; four grandchildren; and a family friend, Debbie Pettengill of Exeter.
Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

Leonard F. Perkins Sr.
SEABROOK - Leonard F. Perkins Sr., 54, of 7 Folly Mill Terrace, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.
He was born April 4, 1946, in Lawrence, Mass., the son of the late Lloyd N. and Doris (Dobson) Perkins.
He was a 1964 graduate of Winnacunnet High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving two tours of duty from 1964 until 1967 and was the recipient of the Silver Star.
Mr. Perkins was a heavy equipment operator and was employed with The Dow Co. of Methuen, Mass., for 28 years. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 4 of Lexington, Mass.
He enjoyed horses, especially Belgians, and had owned and worked them at the family homestead.
He is survived by his wife, Linda C. (Lewis) Perkins; one son, Leonard F. Perkins Jr. of Dover; four daughters, Faye Santos of Seabrook, Christine Perkins of Belmont, Mass., and Michelle Perkins and Tonya Edmond, both of Seabrook; two stepsons, Russell Greer of Seabrook and Jason Greer of Newfields; five grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd N. Perkins Jr. of Seabrook and Dennis Perkins of East Kingston; two sisters, Ella Fowler of Seabrook and Karen Perkins of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Seabrook.

Annie R. Smith
HAMPTON - Annie R. "Nancy" Smith, 95, of North Road, Brentwood, formerly of Hampton, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home.
She was born July 26, 1905, in Scotland, the daughter of the late George and Annie (Stewart) McAllister. She resided most of her life in Somerville, Mass., moving to Hampton in 1964.
Mrs. Smith was a former member of First Congregational Church, Somerville.
The widow of James M. Smith, who died in 1987, she is survived by one daughter and her husband, Georgina A. and Warren Bambury of Hampton; one daughter-in-law, Freda Smith of Fredericksburg, Va.,; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by one son, John Smith, who died in 1996.
Services were held Wednesday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton, with the Rev. Maren Tirabassi officiating. Burial was in High Street Cemetery, Hampton.

Patricia Tennis
BRENTWOOD - Patricia Tennis, 72, of North Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Exeter Hospital after a period of failing health.
She was born June 30, 1928, in Garden City, Mich., the daughter of the late Arthur and Kathleen (Burns) Housel. She had lived in Conway for two years moving to Brentwood two years ago.
Mrs. Tennis was an administrative assistant in the special education department with the Garden City School District for several years.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Tennis of Chester and David Tennis of Hopkinton.
There are no calling hours or services planned at this time.

Lloyd B. Yeaton
ADDISON, Maine - Lloyd B. Yeaton, 87, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, in Downeast Community Hospital, Machias, Maine, following a period of failing health.
He was born March 2, 1913, in Exeter, the son of the late George W. and Grace (McDermott) Yeaton. He moved to Dover in 1965 and to Addison in 1999.
Mr. Yeaton was employed by Phillips Exeter Academy for many years and at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring after 20 years of service. Following his retirement he worked for nine years at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover, in the maintenance department doing electrical work.
The widower of Muriel (Hayes) Yeaton, his wife of 62 years who died in 1994, he is survived by three sons and their wives, Leon and Joan Yeaton of Addison, with whom he made his home, Robert and Kathleen Yeaton of East Granby, Conn., and Lawrence and Rebecca Yeaton of Newmarket and Machiasport, Maine; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by one brother, Vinton Yeaton; and one sister, Mildred "Millie" Noyes.
Spring graveside services will be held in Exeter at the convenience of the family.
