JO ANN ADCOCK
PENACOOK – Jo Ann (Gulley) Adcock, 65, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, at her home.
She was born Oct. 26, 1941, in Missoula, Mont., to the late Ercel and Mary (McClintock) Gulley.

She was raised in Portland, Ore., and graduated in 1963 from Lewis and Clark College in Portland.

She then attended Boston University School of Theology.

Mrs. Adcock was a national officer of Methodist Youth Fellowship, representing the Methodist Church ecumenical youth meetings in Europe. From 1963 to 1966, she was the director of Christian education in Winchester, Mass., and from 1966 to 1969, she was director of Christian education in Providence, R.I.

In 1964, she married Ronald P. Adcock. She lived in Nampa, Idaho, from 1969 to 1995, and during that time, she became an accountant and worked for the United Way of Ada County.

Then, she was employed at the Trus Joist Corp. Later, she worked for several years as an accountant for Lloyd Lumber.

In 1995, Mrs. Adcock moved to Concord with her husband.

She worked more than 10 years for Concord Camera. Then, she was employed at Combined Services.

She had a variety of offices in the churches she attended.

Mrs. Adcock was a leader for the Boy Scouts of America. She was awarded the Silver Beaver in January 1987. She earned her Wood Badge and was a member of the Bear Patrol.

She was appointed by the governor of Idaho as chairman of the Idaho State Commission for the Blind. After moving to Concord, she continued her work with the Scouts and became a member of the board of directors for the New Hampshire Association for the Blind. She led the services committee.

Family members include her husband, Ronald P. Adcock; a son, Jerald; a daughter-in-law, Jessica; a granddaughter, Ashlyn; and a brother, Howard Gulley, of Anacortes, Wash.

Memorial donations may be made to the Jo Ann Adcock Memorial Fund for the enhancement of Scouting activities at Wesley United Methodist Church, 79 Clinton St., Concord, NH 03301.

Cremation Society of New Hampshire handled the arrangements.

ROSE A. BAILEY
GOFFSTOWN – Rose A. Bailey, 91, died July 30, 2007, at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, following a period of declining health.
She was born Aug. 31, 1915, in Hebron, N.Y., to Wilson and Maud (Stark) Moffitt. She was raised and educated in New York and moved to Goffstown in 1954, where she has lived since.

Mrs. Bailey was a dedicated homemaker and mother. She also worked for the family’s restaurant, Ernesto’s, in Manchester for several years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Bailey; and a daughter, Phyllis Nolin. Mrs. Bailey enjoyed gardening and yard work. She truly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Family members include a grandson and granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.

Phaneuf Funeral Home in Manchester handled the arrangements.

ANYA M. MARSHALL
EPSOM – Anya Marie Marshall, the infant daughter of Joel and Julie (Gagne) Marshall, died Monday, July 30, 2007.
In addition to her parents, family members include two brothers, Elijah and Colin Marshall; maternal grandparents, Diane and Lester Gagne of Epsom; and paternal grandparents, Lois Marshall Choroszy and John Choroszy of Loudon.

Memorial donations may be made to the CareNet Pregnancy Center of Concord, 7 Greenwood Ave., Concord, NH 03301.

HAZEL GRACE SHAREK
GOFFSTOWN – Hazel Grace (Scales) Sharek, 93, died July 26, 2007, at Catholic Medical Center following a period of declining health.
Born in Manchester, she was a resident of Pinardville for most of her life.

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Sharek was employed with New Hampshire Ball Bearings of Peterborough.

She was an avid member of the Goffstown Senior Citizens Center, and for many years was also a flea market vendor with her husband.

Mrs. Sharek was a fervent animal lover, displaying dogs in a show ring and had a zealous passion for music.

She was predeceased by Edward John Sharek, who died in 1997.

Family members include two cousins and many friends.

DAVID W. TAFARELLA
CONCORD – David W. Tafarella, 89, of Concord died July 25, 2007, at the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association’s Hospice House after a brief illness.
He was born in Cleveland to Anthony and Mary (Weyandt) Tafarella. He graduated in 1940 from the Case School of Applied Science with a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering.

In 1943, Mr. Tafarella enlisted in the United States Navy. After completion of officer candidate school, he served as an artillery inspector at Dahlgren, Va., until 1946, when he was discharged with the rank of lieutenant junior grade.

He continued his government service as a civilian, working as an engineer for the Department of the Army at Fort Belvoir, Va., until his retirement in 1974.

During his civilian engineering career he worked in the demolitions branch, testing a variety of explosive devices utilized by the Army, and later in mechanical engineering and specifications branch, serving as the Department of the Army’s civilian liaison to government contractors providing rock crushers to the Army Corps of Engineers to be used in road building during the war in Viet Nam.

Mr. Tafarella pursued a variety of interests in his personal life. He raised Flemish giant rabbits, a snapping turtle, a mouse and his best friend “Kitty.” He loved poetry and prided himself on always being able to recite a verse or two of Shakespeare, Frost or Browning appropriate to any given situation.

He loved big band, jazz and Dixieland music, especially that of the ’30s and ’40s. He met Louis Armstrong in a small jazz club in New York in 1973, which was a night he never forgot. He spent many hours playing “drums” on his wife’s pots and pans until he was persuaded to buy a real drum set in 1969, which he continued to enjoy for many years.

Mr. Tafarella, like his mother, was a student of math. He prided himself on being able to solve the most complicated of algebra and geometry problems, even at age 89. His other interests included horse racing, boxing, pool and Trivial Pursuit. But, the most significant portion of Tafarella’s personal life was dedicated to his family, taking grandchildren hiking, fishing, catching butterflies, and attending their Little League games. He made all family gatherings events to remember.

Family members include his wife of 67 years, Myra Bientz Tafarella; daughters, Mary T. Gold and her husband, Benjamin Gold, of Burke, Va., and Martha T. Kuepper and her husband, Dr. Robert Kuepper, of Concord; grandsons, David Gold of Springfield, Va., Dr. Steven Gold of Santa Monica, Calif., Robert Kuepper Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Thomas Kuepper of Stowe, Vt.; and seven great-grandchildren.

YVONNE MARION GOMES
NEW BOSTON – Yvonne Marion Gomes, 87, died July 28, 2007, at Hillsborough County Nursing Home following a period of declining health.
She was born in Pittsfield, Mass., to Edgar and Edna (Mackay) Archambeau. She was a resident of New Boston since 1949.

Mrs. Gomes was employed by Edison Electronics for more than 25 years. Active in numerous community affairs, she was a member of the New Boston Historical Society, New Boston P.T.A. and the New Boston Planning Board. She was a founder of the New Boston Better Times Newspaper and enjoyed spending time at New Boston Elementary School reading to the students.

She was predeceased by her husband, August “Augie” J. Gomes III.

Family members include two sons, August Joseph “Skip” Gomes IV of New Boston and Russell P. Gomes of Vanzgart Mo.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, at 2 p.m., at New Boston Community Church with a reception to follow in the Dignard Room.

Memorial donations may be made to Whipple Free Library, New Boston Recreation Leauge or New Boston Community Church.

BOW – Burial services for Douglas Barnard, who died Jan. 11, 2007, will be held Saturday Aug. 18, at 11 a.m. at Evans Cemetery, Bow.
Following will be an open house/barn at the Barnard home in Bow.

WILLIAM B. GLEN
GOFFSTOWN – William B. Glen, 75, died Oct. 1, 2007, at Catholic Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Providence, R.I., and he was a resident of Goffstown for the past 10 years.

Mr. Glen was a graduate of Brown University and was employed by various companies as a chemical purchasing agent. Following his semi-retirement he was a sales agent with the Senior Beacon Newspaper for several years.

He was an active member of the Congregational Church of Goffstown, where he served on various boards and committees.

He was also been a member of the Goffstown Lions Club. Serving with the United States Army, he was a veteran of the Korean conflict.

Family members include his wife of 43 years, Joan B. Glen of Goffstown; two children, Douglas Glen and Laura Stockton, both of Goffstown; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m., at the Congregational Church of Goffstown, with Pastor Charlie Ford officiating. Interment will be in the Westlawn Cemetery.

BARBARA HEAPS
MANCHESTER – Barbara (Wholley) Heaps, 83, formerly of Springfield, Mass., died Sept. 23, 2007, in Villa Crest Nursing Home in Manchester.
She was born June 2, 1924, in Everett, Mass., to James and Marion (Flynn) Wholley. She graduated from Everett High School and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Salem State College and her master’s degree in education from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

Mrs. Heaps was a well-respected educator in the Springfield Public Schools, and retired in 1988 after 20 years as a teacher.

She was an avid reader and loved the ocean, but her true love and devotion was spending time with her family, especially on Cape Cod, and where she and her husband, Jack, lived after retirement.

Mrs. Heaps was a devoted wife and mother.

She was predeceased by her husband, John “Jack” F. Heaps in 1993; a great-grandson, Luke; two brothers, James and Thomas Wholley; and a sister, Eleanor Bell.

Family members include seven children, John F. Jr. of Longmeadow, Mass., Paul E. of Portsmouth, Kathryn Kessler of Longmeadow, Marian Pickowicz of Bedford, Ellyn Burke of Windham, Dr. Robert J. of Bedford and Barbara H. Nehmer of Wilbraham, Mass.; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Wholley of Raynham, Mass.; a sister, Esta Sullivan of Saugus; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association Research, 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.

AGNES LIDDLE PICHETTE
CONCORD – Agnes Liddle Pichette, 73, of Concord, died Sept. 24, 2007, at the Hospice House in Concord.
She was born Sept. 23, 1934, in Clarks Summit, Pa., to Harry Forman and Marie Strubel Liddle.

Mrs. Pichette retired after working 18 years at Franklin Pierce Law Center as an administrative assistant. In her retirement, she enjoyed being with her grandchildren and attending their sporting events, family outings, knitting, cross-stitching, reading, playing games on the computer and working in her gardens in the spring.

As a mother of six children, she was active in Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, and she was the PTA president, treasurer and secretary in the years when they were growing up. She received numerous bowling trophies and was on the scratch team that won the Kentucky State Championship back in the ’70s. She also received the Presidential Fitness Award for her bowling.

Family members include her much-loved life partner of 29 years, Donald J. Phillips of Concord; three sons, Albert Royal Pichette Jr. of Nashua, Charles Andrew Pichette and his wife, Sally, of Marietta, Ga., and Richard Francis Pichette and his wife, Dawn, of Nashua; three daughters, Catherine Margaret MacArthur and her husband, John, of Durham, Renee Therese Davis and her husband, Bill, of Merrimack and Diane Lynn Smith of Peterborough; a brother, the Rev. Dr. Vincent T. Liddle and his wife, Rosemary, of Bear Creek, Pa.; three sisters, Margaret Van Scott of Palmyra, N.Y., Mary Cary of Endwell, N.Y., and Julia Liddle of Binghamton, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer, Nicole, Jason, Thomas, Stuart, Richard, David, Samantha, Joshua and Matthew; and many nieces and nephews.
