Barry R. Whiting
LA JOLLA, Calif. - Barry R. Whiting, 51, died unexpectedly, Oct. 13, 2002, while jogging near his home, in La Jolla, Calif. He was a former resident of Dracut, Mass., and Hampton, before moving to La Jolla five years ago.
Born in Lowell, Mass., on May 21, 1951, the son of the late Norma O’Loughlin, he attended Dracut schools and was a graduate of Dracut High School.
For more than 25 years, Whiting was the owner of Whiting’s Foreign Auto Service, in Dracut, Mass., until 1998, when he relocated to Sand Diego, Calif.
At the time of his death, he was the transportation manager at the Marine Corps Air Station, in Miramar, Calif., and held other business interests in the San Diego area.
He is survived by a son, Matthew P. Whiting of New York City; his former wife, Kathleen (Catalano) Whiting of Newburyport, Mass.; two sisters, Nancy Lyons and husband Timothy of Hampton, and Sharon Whiting of Florida; three brothers, David E. Whiting and wife Pamela M., Steven G. Whiting and wife Ann-Marie, all of Townsend, and James M. O’Loughlin and wife Nancy of Dracut, Mass.; two aunts, Beverly Parker and husband Robert of Rochester, and Helen Whiting of Lowell, Mass.; five nieces, Kristen Eaton, Courtney Whiting, Amy Whiting, Megan O’Loughlin and Kathryn O’Loughlin, who is also his god-daughter; four nephews, Timothy Lyons, David E. Whiting II, Gregg S. Whiting and Michael O’Loughlin; eight grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as several cousins.
WHITING - Barry R. Whiting, 51, of La Jolla, Calif., formally of Dracut, Mass., and Hampton, died unexpectedly on Oct. 13, 2002. Carol S. Beckwith
RYE - The funeral service in celebration of the life of Carol S. Beckwith, 65, who died Oct. 11, 2002, was held Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. The Rev. Robin L. Zucker, pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Church, Reading, Mass., officiated. A reading was proclaimed by Prudence Amick, and remembrances were offered by Nikole Beckwith and Geoffrey C. Beckwith. Burial followed in the Central Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Zucker. Pallbearers were Geoffrey C. Beckwith, Derek Beckwith, Brooke Lemoine and Scott Starbard.
Mary Ann Blazquez
WESTBOROUGH, Mass. - Mary Ann Blazquez, 63, of 1 Lyman Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Healthcare, university campus, Worcester, after an illness.
Born on Nov. 29, 1938, in Bunker Hill, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Forrest and Vera (Meadors) Welch. She was educated in Bunker Hill, Ill., schools.
Blazquez was employed as a title examiner for Friedman and Stein PC, in Braintree, Mass., since 1989. She was the former co-owner and founder of the Bicycle Barn, on Route 9, in Westborough, Mass., from 1973 to 1979.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing and genealogy.
Blazquez had been a resident of Westborough for many years, before moving to Marlboro, Mass. in 1990, and returning to Westborough this year.
Blazquez is survived by one son, Enrique L. Blazquez of Portsmouth; three daughters, Lisa A. Winchell of Greenland, Susan J. Winchell of Westborough and Mary Lu Nutter of North Grafton, Mass.; one brother, James A. Welch of Granite City, Ill.; one sister, Margaret J. Leihy of Bunker Hill, Ill., six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
BLAZQUEZ - Mary Ann Blazquez, 63, of 1 Lyman Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at the Evangelical Congregational Church, West Main Street, Westborough, Mass. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Rand-Harper-Pickering Westborough Funeral Home, 62 West Main Street, Westborough, Mass. STAPLES - Alvey W. Staples, 80, of Portsmouth Avenue, Greenland, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Winona "Winnie" M. Parsons
KITTERY, Maine - Winona "Winnie" M. Parsons, 78, of Old Dennett Road, died Wednesday Oct. 16, 2002, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.
Born in Danvers, Mass., on March 31, 1924, she was a daughter of Everett D. and Lillian (Demsey) Witham. She attended local schools and graduated from Danvers High School, where she was active as a baton twirler and enjoyed reminiscing about it.
She met and married her husband of more than 47 years, Herbert Parsons, in 1945; they moved to Kittery, where they made their home and raised a family. She was a past member of the Piscataqua Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also an active member of the First Congregational Church at Kittery Point.
She and her husband enjoyed their travels around the United States and Newfoundland in their RV, making many lasting friends and seeing many beautiful sights together.
Her first love was her family.
She is survived by her children, two daughters and their husbands, Judith and William Smart of Kittery Point and Patricia and Kerry Smart of Sanford, and a son and his wife, Kenneth and Carolyn Parsons of Amesbury, Mass.; six grandchildren, Lea Poulin, Jody Parsons, Jennifer Johnston, Aleda Cote, John Smart and Marion Smart; a great-granddaughter, Savanna Poulin; a brother, Harrison and his wife, Keni Witham, of Boxford, Mass.; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

Alvey W. Staples
GREENLAND - Alvey W. Staples, 80, of Portsmouth Avenue, died at Concord Hospital on Tuesday evening, Oct. 15, 2002, after a short illness.
Born on Aug. 2, 1922, in Springfield, Ill., he was the son of William and Blanche (Cook) Staples and had been a resident of Portsmouth since 1950.
He served with the U.S. Marines in the Pacific theater during World War II. He was a self-employed general contractor and had retired in 1984.
He was an avid golfer and fisherman. He had been a member of Portsmouth Country Club since 1950 and was also a life member of the Portsmouth Lodge of Elks #97.
He was the husband of Catherine Theresa (Leary) Staples of Greenland.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Gail Anderson of Kittery, Maine, William Staples of Cumberland, R.I., Catherine Vincent of Fort Worth, Texas, John Staples of Greenland, and Paul Staples and Noreen Holmes, both of Portsmouth; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Juanita Wood of Springfield, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

Maj. John Noll McCormack
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. - Retired Air Force Maj. John Noll McCormack, 71, died at 5:30 a.m. on Oct. 15, 2002, after a long illness.
He is survived by his wife, Karin A. McCormak, and their three children, Conner, Molly and Casey, of Mount Pleasant; and his children, John D. McCormack of Portsmouth, N.H., Karen N. McCormack of Newmarket, N.H., and Kristen A. McCormack of San Francisco, Calif., and their mother, Diane M. McCormack, of New Castle, N.H.
An avid sailboat racer, he was well known in the sailing communities of Portsmouth, N.H., Marco Island, Fla., and Charleston. He will be missed by many.
McCORMACK - Retired Air Force Maj. John Noll McCormack, 71, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., died Oct. 15, 2002. Private funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, in Mount Pleasant. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. at home that evening. Wakes will also be held in Marco Island, Fla., and Portsmouth. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., his childhood home. Robert Pease Evans
SINGER ISLAND, Fla., - Funeral services for Robert Pease Evans, 88, of 2429 Lake Drive, were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Thursday, with services held at the First United Methodist Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. David Thompson, pastor, officiated. Words of remembrance were offered by family members, including P. J. Lunsford, Gerald R. Evans, Richard Valentine, Jack Evans and Sean Colby. Soloist was Martha Robertson, and organist was Ida Morang. Burial was in Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill, Mass., with committal services by the Rev. Thompson. Bearers were Gerald R. Evans, Dom Petronis, Greg Petronis, Richard Valentine and Sean Coyle.
Jack Evans was an honorary bearer.

Doris E. Ricker
BERWICK, Maine - Doris E. Ricker, 83, died Friday Oct. 18, 2002 at her home in Berwick.
She was born Feb. 18, 1919 in Tuftonboro, N.H. Mrs. Ricker attended Tuftonboro schools later moving to Berwick, where she lived for more than 60 years.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and time with her French poodle "Lacey." Mrs. Ricker also enjoyed flowers, crafts and working in her greenhouse.
She is predeceased by her husband, Charles Ricker, and a son, Warren Ricker.
Mrs. Ricker is survived by one son, Glen E. Ricker of Lebanon, Maine; two daughters, Terry (Linda) Burk and Cynthia Foley, both of Somersworth, N.H.; three brothers, Norman Piper, Stanley Piper and Carl Piper, all of Wolfeboro, N.H.; two sisters, Alice Brooks of Kittery, and Bernice Walters of Wolfeboro.
She is also survived by four grandchildren: Charles Ricker and his wife, Lynn, Timothy Ricker, Jennifer Foley Sloan and Kristine Foley, as well as two great-grandchildren.
RICKER - Doris E. Ricker, 83, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester St. Berwick, Maine. A funeral service will be held at the chapel at 11 a.m., Tuesday, with the Rev. Mark Rideout officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery in Berwick. Arrangements are by Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel.
Alfred T. Fortin
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Alfred T. Fortin, 90, of 28 Desfosses Ave., were held from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Saturday, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at St. James Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. Agapit H. Jean Jr., pastor, officiated.
Altar servers were Richard Ward, Jane Milette, and Theresa Hickey. Vocalists were Heather Weller and Carly Souza, and Jennifer Brown was organist.
In attendance were communicants of the Church.
Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, with committal services by Rev. Jean.
The American flag that draped the casket was folded and presented to Mr. Fortin’s daughter, Linda A. Fortin.
Bearers were Dante Tosi Jr., Gary Dozier, Paul Hargis, Beadley Jones, and Bert Guimond.
Wake services were held at the funeral home Friday afternoon by Rev. Jean. VFW services were held at the funeral home Friday evening by Emerson Hovey Post No. 168 of Portsmouth, including, Carl Walton, commander; John D. Mercer III, senior vice commander; Reginald Wright, past District No. 7 commander; and Paul F. Cushing, commander of District No. 7.
Alan B. Weeks
HAMPTON - Alan B. Weeks, 71, of 7 Heather Lane, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002 at his home.
He was born in Marlborough, Mass., June 6, 1931, a son of the late Harold D. and Dorothy B. Weeks.
Mr. Weeks was a graduate of Hampton Academy, where he received numerous awards in academics and sports and maintained the class presidency.
He received 14 varsity letters and was elected to the all-state first team for the four years he attended high school. He also held the state record in the 440-yard dash and received the most valuable player award in baseball and basketball. He also was the recipient of the Paul W. Hobbs Memorial Award and the Hampton Academy Alumni Medal.
After graduating from Hampton Academy he did his post graduate work at Phillips Exeter Academy and then attended the University of New Hampshire in Durham, where he held down three jobs while pursuing his bachelor of arts degree, and was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity.
He later became employed at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. and attended evening courses at Georgetown Law School. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant. Mr. Weeks served as an Air Force investigator and also established the Sandbagger Boat Company. He is also the author of five novels and 400 poems.
More recently, he worked as a park ranger for the state of Maine and New Hampshire.
He married Priscilla "Patty" Hoyt Triggs Weeks four years ago in the Episcopal chapel on the former Governor Powell Estate in Hampton Falls.
In addition to his wife, family members include two stepchildren and five step-grandchildren, one brother, Robert Weeks of Eolia, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Lumbert of Orlando, Fla.; and 14 nephews and nieces.
