Robert Pease Evans

SINGER ISLAND, Fla., - Robert Pease Evans, 88, husband of Joanne (Malvermi) Evans, of 2429 Lake Drive, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at the Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Mass. He was born in Spokane, Wash., on Aug. 28, 1914, a son of Ernest and L. Mabel (Pease) Evans.

He was a graduate of Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, N.H. He was proprietor of the Evans Optical and Hearing Aid Company and the Mars Optical Company in Boston, Mass., for more than 50 years. After moving from the Boston area, he owned and operated the Paradise Inn in Singer Island.

He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Boston; the Mount Vernon Royal Arch Chapter of Needham, Mass.; and the Amara Temple of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Besides his wife, survivors include two daughters, Penny E. Valentine and her husband, Richard, of Hingham, Mass., and P. J. Lunsford and her husband, Ronnie, of San Antonio, Texas; one son, Gerald R. Evans of Elkton, Md.; two grandsons, Robert Alan Lunsford of San Antonio, Texas, and Ryan Evans of Elkton, Md.; one brother, Jack Evans of Palo Alto, Calif.; one sister, Betty Bennett of Cary, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Fritz.

EVANS - Robert Pease Evans, 88, of 2429 Lake Drive, Singer Island, Fla., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002. Funeral services will be announced. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Flowers will be accepted. Memorial donations may be made to Perkins School for the Blind, Development Office, 175 North Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472.

Larry R. Gregg

MILTON - Larry R. Gregg, 59, of Townhouse Road, died at home on Tuesday morning Oct. 15, 2002, after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Born Aug. 15, 1943, and raised in Linesville, Pa., he was the son of Henry J. and Thelma (Cole) Gregg. He had resided in Milton since 1984.

Larry retired as a master sergeant after serving 20 years with the United States Air Force. He was employed as a facilities and security manager with Hewlett-Packard and Celestica.

An antique car owner and enthusiast, he was a member of the Twin State Cruisers and the Hudson Essex Terraplane Club. An avid deer hunter, he loved Nascar and enjoyed being home by the lake.

He was the husband of Kathryn E. (Money) "Kathy" Gregg of Milton.

In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include three children, Scott C. Gregg of Newfields, Christina L. Couture of Middleton, and Aaron K. Gregg of Milton; six grandchildren, Declan T. Gregg, Ryan Marcoux, Karissa, Autumn and Owen Couture, and Quintyn J. Gregg; one brother, Henry James Gregg of Farmington; and two sisters, Joyce Jesse of Florida and Audrey Kessler of Meadville, Pa.

GREGG - Larry R. Gregg, 59, of Townhouse Road in Milton died Oct. 15, 2002. At his request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Gastrointestinal Research Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445, Attn.: Kristen Jacobson. Randall L. "Pete" Boucher

PORTSMOUTH - Randall L. "Pete" Boucher, 71, of 188 Jones Ave., died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at SunBridge of Portsmouth.

Born in Berlin on Oct. 12, 1931, the son of the late Walter and Odele (Morrissette) Boucher. He resided in Berlin until moving to Portsmouth in 1976.

Formerly he had been employed for more than 20 years at N.H. Provisions as a meat cutter and was an avid sports fan.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Yvonne (Gingras) Boucher; and a grandson, Kevin Clauson, in 1986.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Boucher of Lunenburg, Mass., and Lisa Clauson of South Berwick, Maine; three grandchildren, Kristine Clauson of South Berwick, Maine, and Logan and Max Boucher-Cooley of Lunenburg, Mass.

BOUCHER - Randall L. "Pete" Boucher, 71, of 188 Jones Ave., Portsmouth, died Oct. 14, 2002. Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. Arrangements are by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel.

LaGUARDIA - Mary Frances Janvrin LaGuardia, 82, of Las Vegas, N.M., formerly of Hampton Falls, died Oct. 11, 2002. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Interment will follow at the Janvrin family lot in Brookside Cemetery in Hampton Falls. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Hampton Falls Historical Society, P.O. Box 104, Hampton Falls, NH 03844; or to a charity of your choice.

Marion (Holden) Pekkala Blanchette

PORTSMOUTH - Marion (Holden) Pekkala Blanchette, 75, formerly of Maynard, Quincy and Lowell, Mass., died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at Edgewood Nursing Home in Portsmouth, after an illness.

She was born in Providence, R.I., daughter of the late George and Ruth (Gardner) Holden.

She was a licensed practical nurse, who had lived in Maynard for several years before and after moving to Lowell. She moved to Quincy in 1978, and to Portsmouth, due to illness, in March of this year.

Surviving are daughters Ericka Kopycinski of Lowell, Mass., Christine Kopycinski of Portsmouth, Robin Lavertu of Colorado, and Janet Blanchette and Gail Oliver, both of Lowell; two sons, Norman Blanchette and Donald Blanchette, both of Lowell; 17 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Edward Blanchette and Benhard Pekkala; and her son, Roger Blanchette.

BLANCHETTE - Marion (Holden) Pekkala Blanchette, 75, of Portsmouth, formerly of Maynard, Quincy and Lowell, Mass., died Oct. 15, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, in the Fowler-Kennedy Funeral Home, 42 Concord St., Maynard, Mass. Friends may call from noon until the time of the service, on Thursday, at the funeral home. Instead of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Portsmouth Hospice Service, 95 Albany St., Unit 11, Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Charlene D. d’Entremont

YORK, Maine - Charlene D. d’Entremont, 73, of 6 Meadow View Lane, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at York Hospital.

She was born in Rochester, N.H., on Sept. 23, 1929, the daughter of Charles and Dorothy (Gilman) Downs. She was a graduate of Laconia High School.

Mrs. d’Entremont had been a waitress at Valle’s Steak House in Kittery. Later she became a floral designer at Foster’s Flower Shop in York for nine years.

She enjoyed painting and doll collecting. She enjoyed playing the organ and filling her house with music. Mrs. d’Entremont and her husband enjoyed camping and drove to Alaska 22 years ago.

In addition to her husband of 51 years, Charles A. d’Entremont Sr., she is survived by one son, Charles A. d’Entremont Jr. and his wife Peggy of York; a brother, Charles Downs of Laconia, N.H.; a half-brother, Charles Downs of Eliot; a half-sister, Elizabeth Barry of Texas; and one granddaughter, Katie d’Entremont.

Mrs. d’Entremont was predeceased by a son, Larry d’Entremont, who died in Vietnam in 1967.

D’ENTREMONT - Charlene D. d’Entremont, of 6 Meadow View Lane, York, Maine, wife of Charles A. d’Entremont Sr., died Oct. 15, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday in the First Parish Cemetery, York Street, York. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of York, 1-A Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909.

Wilbur J. Braley

PORTSMOUTH - Wilbur J. Braley, 90, of 188 Jones Ave., died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2002, at SunBridge of Portsmouth. He was born on May 15, 1912. He was formerly employed at the Rentham State School, until his retirement in November of 1974 after 41 years of service.

There are no known survivors.

Alfred T. Fortin

PORTSMOUTH - Alfred T. Fortin, 90, of 28 Desfosses Ave., died comfortably on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth. He was born in Manchester on Sept. 2, 1912, the son of the late Joseph and Belzemire (Landry) Fortin.

He served in the United States Navy during the D-Day invasion and Pearl Harbor. He was employed for Continental Shoe, formerly of Portsmouth, and had also owned and operated his own farm in Greenland. He was a member of the Emerson Hovey Post #168 VFW of Portsmouth for 45 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #140. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved spending time outside, especially working in his vegetable garden. He was a devoted husband and loving father; all staff and residents of the Edgewood Centre thought he was a sweet and kind man. He always told people he had had a good life.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ann E. (Mitrook) Fortin, in 1989, after 50 years of marriage.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda A. Fortin of Portsmouth; a sister, Lucy Giampa of Manchester; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his buddy Casey.

FORTIN - Alfred T. Fortin, 90, of 28 Desfosses Ave., Portsmouth, died comfortably on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Saturday at St. James Church, 2075 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, with VFW services at 5:45 p.m. by Emerson Hovey Post #168 of Portsmouth. Memorial donations may be made to the N.H. SPCA, P.O. Box 196, Stratham, NH 03885-0196; or to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833.

Phyllis Dawn Noones

YORK HARBOR, Maine - Phyllis Dawn Noones, 64, of Wavecrest Circle Drive, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at York Hospital. She was the beloved wife of David W. Noones.

Noones was born March 13, 1938, in Randolph, Vt., and was the daughter of Eugene and Katharine (Flint) DuClos.

She was very devoted to her country and served as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force for three years.

She was a civil service budget analyst for the Air Force, at Hanscom Air Force Base, Lexington, Mass.

She had lived in Lexington for many years before becoming a resident of York Harbor, in 1990.

She loved and cared for her family and was especially close to her five step-grandchildren.

Noones was predeceased by her father and a sister, Wanda Carlisle. She is survived by her husband, of York Harbor, Maine; mother, of Braintree, Vt; four sisters, Winona and husband Stanley Chamberlin of Bellingham, Mass., Monica and husband Isadore Verge of Ocala, Fl.; Altha Graham of Randolph, Vt., and Anita and husband Arthur Watson of Douglas, Mass.; one brother and his wife, Verne and Judy DuClos of Braintree, Vt.; three step-children, Nancy, Jerry and Sharon; five step-grandchildren and 25 nieces and nephews.

NOONES - Phyllis Dawn Noones, 64, of Wavecrest Circle Drive, York Harbor, Maine, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2002, at York Hospital. A reception will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18, at the Day Funeral Home, 4 Franklin Street, Randolph, Vt. It will be followed by a funeral service, at 2 p.m., at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Center for Wildlife Inc., PO Box 620, Cape Neddick, ME 03902. Local arrangements are by Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York, Maine.

Elizabeth (Coffin) Quimby

ORANGEDALE, Nova Scotia - Elizabeth (Coffin) Quimby, 88, died peacefully at home on Monday, Oct. 14, 2002.

She lived in New Hampshire’s Raymond-Fremont-Candia area for many years and taught school in Epping and Fremont, N.H.

She was born in Milton, Mass., and educated at Simmons College and Hartford Theological Seminary. She was commissioned to do missionary work in Africa as World War II broke out. She married Jonathan Quimby of Raymond, N.H., in 1942, and together they raised four children. During the early years she worked first as an assistant pastor, social worker and teacher. She went on to become program director of the Congregational Conference Center in Pembroke, N.H. Later the family moved to Illinois, where she held the position of program director of Pleasant Valley Farm, a camp retreat and education center affiliated with the Chicago area churches. While there, she obtained a master’s degree in outdoor education from Northern Illinois University. She and her husband immigrated to Canada in 1970, finally settling in Cape Breton, where she became active in the arts community. She taught weaving and was instrumental in creating the Orangedale Weavers. She was on the board of directors of the Cape Breton School of Cr

afts and the Nova Scotia Designer Crafts Council, from which she received a lifetime honorary membership in 1999. She was on the board of directors for L’Arche Cape Breton and felt a special connection to members of that community. She was organist and choir director in Whycocomagh and Little Narrows Presbyterian churches for many years. As a final generous gift, she donated her body to Dalhousie Medical School.

Forever grateful for her incredible spirit are her children, Johanna (Frank Berman, Illinois), Deborah (Stephen Vines, Wales, U.K.), and David (Victoria) and William (Dianne) of Orangedale; grandchildren Michael and Rebecca Berman, Christopher (Cindy), Mark and Thomas Vines, Lindsay and Meagan Quimby, Elissa Quimby (Joel MacIntyre), and Paul and Jane Bottomley; and five great-grandchildren, Austen and Ewan Vines, Mikayla Bottomley-Hubbard, and Ciaran and Dailyn Quimby-MacIntyre.

She made lifelong friends wherever she lived, with significant attachment to Mardi Chandler.

QUIMBY - Elizabeth (Coffin) Quimby, 88, of Orangedale, Nova Scotia, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2002, at Orangedale United Church, with the Rev. Aaron Billard officiating. In lieu of flowers, she had asked that donations be forwarded to L’Arche Cape Breton, R.R. # 1, Orangedale, NS B0E 2K0.

John A. Edwards

MILLCREEK TOWNSHIP, Pa. - John A. Edwards, 70, of 2711 Greenacre Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at his home.

He was born Feb. 25, 1932, in Bridgeport, Conn., son of the late Frederick and Elsie Griffin Edwards.

He attended school in Connecticut.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to duty aboard the USS Salem.

He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and the Siebenbuerger Club. He enjoyed bowling in two senior leagues.

He was preceded in death by a son, John A. Edwards Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Patty J. Larson Edwards; two sons, Kim W. Edwards and his wife, Lisa, of Fairview Township, and August A. Edwards and his wife, Dawn, of Centerville; two daughters, Rose M. Rose and her husband, William, of Mill Village, and Betty Jean Norton and her husband, Dan, of York Beach, Maine; a brother, Fred W. Edwards and his wife, Patty, of West Haven, Conn.; a sister, Shirley Capozziello and her husband, Al, of Woodbridge, Conn.; a stepson, Harry T. Card Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Erie; a stepdaughter, Shellie DelleCurti and her husband, Ralph, of Erie; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and six stepgrandchildren.

Burial will be private in Connecticut.

Memorials may be made to the West Ridge Hose Co., 3142 West Ridge Road, Erie, PA 16505.
