Victor W. Lupien
BERLIN -- Funeral services for Mr. Victor W. Lupien, 79, of 25 Bemis Street, Berlin, were held on April 11, 2007 at the Bryant Funeral Home in Berlin. Pastor Frederick Teichmann officiated. Interment was in the Russian City Cemetery. Pastor Teichmann read the committal prayers.
Many relatives and friends attended the service from Concord, Barrington, Wentworth and Plymouth, New Hampshire and Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Laurier 'John' J. Bilodeau
BERLIN -- Mr. Laurier "John" J. Bilodeau, 83, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2007 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital.
John was born in Berlin on September 3, 1924, the son of the late Ephraim and Louise (Gagne) Bilodeau. He was married to Rita Kelly on September 3, 1949. They were married for fifty-eight years.
John is survived by his wife; a son Jon Bilodeau of Upton, Me.; two daughters, Denise Bilodeau of Hampton Falls, and Louise Pare and her husband Ray of Jefferson. He is also survived by grandchildren, Jared Dussault, Eric Dussault and Jessica Clifford; a step-granddaughter, Jenah Pare.; a great-grandson, Garrett Dussault and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 20, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church on Church Street Gorham, with Father Jeffrey Statz officiating. Interment will follow the services in St. Kieran Cemetery, Hutchins St., Berlin.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made Memorial and Honor Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
David W. Mardin
LEBANON -- David W. Mardin, age 70, passed away in the morning hours of Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He had been a resident of the Coos County Nursing Home in Berlin for the last 22 years.
He was born in Woodsville on April 5, 1937, a son of the late Woodrow and Thelma (French) Mardin. He attended area schools, and later moved to Berlin. He was employed as a night watchman, and later as a laborer for the North Country Workshop. In earlier years, David was active with the Salvation Army.
He is survived by his daughters, Victoria Amireault and Ruth Mardin; as well as by his brother Clifton Ingerson, Jr., and his wife Albina of Whitefield; his sisters, Mrs. Mary Tillotson and her husband Alden "Jack" of Lancaster, Elizabeth Bissonette of Winchester, NH, Nancy Lowe and her husband Lawrence of Gorham and Christine Bruner and her husband Darrell of Fort Worth, Texas. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well as his grandchildren.
David was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends and relatives may call on the family on Saturday, October 20, from 11 to 1 p.m. at the Fleury-Patry Funeral Home, 72 High Street in Berli using the School Street entrance.
A funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Captain Deborah Coolidge of the Salvation Army officiating.
Interment will immediately follow the services in Russian City Cemetery, Hutchins Street in Berlin.
Mary Jane LaCroix
BERLIN -- Mary Jane (Gonya) LaCroix, 82, of Berlin, passed away on Friday March 7, 2008 at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. She was born in Berlinon Feb. 21, 1926, the daughter of Edmund and Lidia Anna (Ells) Gonya. She had lived in Hartford, Conn., for many years and returned to Berlin in the late 1980s. Mary Jane had worked part time for St. Luke Medical Center in Berlin. She loved nature, animals, especially cats, the arts, literature, music and theatre.
Members of the family include her daughter, Anne LaCroix of New Britain, Conn.; a sister, Nancy Fox of Virginia; three nephews, John Fox of Virginia, Jay Fox of Colorado and Robert Cecil of Maryland; and cousins including Barbara Ellis and Betty Domino, both of Berlin.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Anyone who wishes may make a donation to an animal shelter of one’s choice in her memory. Germain A. Duquette
BERLIN -- Germain A. Duquette, 82, passed away unexpectedly in the early morning hours of Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at the St. Vincent DePaul Healthcare Center in Berlin.
He was born in La Patrie, PQ, on August 28, 1925, a son of the late Odias and Anne Marie (Laflamme) Duquette. He attended local schools, and later moved to Berlin. Germain was employed in the Senior Department for the Canadian National and Central Vermont, retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of the former St. Joseph Parish and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Berlin Aerie. He was also a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Germain is survived by his sisters, Germaine Boulanger of Lac Megantic, PQ, Glorianne Seguin of Montreal, PQ, and Rejeanne Dubuc of Springfield, Mass.: several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as by his brother, Antonio Duquette, and his sister, Elianne Blais.

Virginia Walker
WELLESLEY, MASS., -- Virginia (Malloy) Walker of Wellesley, formerly of Weston, died on February 2, 2008, at home. She was 76. The daughter of the late Virginia (Bliss) and Walter Malloy, she was raised in Gorham. She went on to graduate from Wellesley College and remained active in alumnae affairs ever since. As a young woman she worked in New York for several years, then came to Boston and had a career as an insurance underwriter for the John Hancock Company.
She married Edward Walker in 1963 and settled in Weston in 1970, where they lived until moving to Wellesley in 1989. She was very active in the Country Garden Club of Weston, and loved tending her garden and arranging flowers. An avid reader and golfer, she also enjoyed her travels, especially to the Southwest and to Europe. In her later years she developed her own business as a professional driver, retiring about two years ago. Virginia was a vibrant, no-nonsense woman, and a great raconteur. She will be missed.
She leaves her loving husband, Edward Walker; her daughter, Victoria Pasche and her husband Fred Pasche of Framingham; her step-daughter, Wendy Loranger and her husband Marc Loranger, of Maine; her sister, Susanne Kimball of California; her nieces, Sara Kimball and Margaret Kimball, and her nephew, Richard Kimball.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.

Viola E. Jensen
BERLIN -- Funeral services for Mrs. Viola E. Jensen, 84 of 286 High Street in Berlin, were held on April 7, 2008 in the hapel of the Bryant Funeral Home in Berlin. Pastor John Howry officiated and read the committal prayers. Interment was in the St. Kieran Cemetery in Berlin.
The casket bearers were Keith Jensen, Adam Jensen, Mike Dinardo, Brian Dinardo, Eric Jensen and Bill Dinardo.
Many relatives and friends attended the service.
Maurice J. Lafrance
BERLIN -- Maurice J. Lafrance, age 82 and formerly of Madison Avenue, BERLIN, passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at the St. Vincent DePaul Healthcare Center where he had been residing the last year.
He was born in Berlin on March 23, 1926, one of 16 children to the late Alphonse and Alma (Montminy) Lafrance. He attended local schools, and was a lifetime resident of the area. In 1944, Maurice enlisted in the US Marines serving in the Asiatic Pacific Area from 1944 to 1946. He was discharged shortly after, and returned home to Berlin. Maurice was married to Blanche (Provencher) on November 18, 1946, and the couple began their family.
Maurice was employed by the Brown Co., later known as James River and Crown Vantage in the wood room, retiring in 1988. He was a longtime communicant of St. Anne Parish, and was a lifetime member of both the VFW, post 2520 and the American Legion. He was active in the Mill Horseshoe League, and loved to play horseshoes. Maurice also enjoyed fishing and sports, loved the Red Sox and all New England sports teams and had enjoyed camping with his family in earlier years. His greatest love was for his children and grandchildren and any time spent with them. He will be sadly missed.
Maurice is survived by his daughters, Jeannette Rivard and her husband Richard and Rita A. Croteau and her husband Michael, all of Berlin; his brothers, Normand Lafrance and his wife Emma of Gorham, Lucien Lafrance and his wife Jackie of Berlin, Leo Lafrance and his wife Margaret of Laconia and Robert Lafrance and his wife Marguerite of Berlin; his sisters, Lorraine Baillargeon of Gorham, Cecile Gagnon and Therese Lafrance of Berlin. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Donna and her husband Kevin, Karen Cote, Kenneth and his wife Jamie, Stephanie and her husband Chris and Melanie.; his great-grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, Emilie, Carson, Stacey, Hayley and Casey as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as by his beloved wife Blanche on April 4, 1994; his brothers, Roland and Antonio Lafrance and his sisters, Florence Picardi, Annette Morin, Doris Pepin, Blanche Therrien, and Laurette Rousseau.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 9, at 9 a.m. at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish, 345 Pleasant Street in Berlin.
Interment with full military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cates Hill Road in Berlin.
Malissie (Kitson) Morton
BERLIN -- Malissie (Kitson) Morton passed away in Hanover on Saturday, April 26, 2008 after a prolonged illness.
Malissie was born in Alton, Illinois, on March 3, 1956. She is survived by her husband, Robert Morton of Berlin, and an “adopted” son, Travis Milton, also of Berlin. She was predeceased by sisters Margaret and Charlotte. She leaves behind sisters, Tara Kitson of Oklahoma, Patricia Kitson of Peoria, Illinois, and brother Kenny Kitson, also of Peoria.
Her interests included camping, writing, drawing and she loved her cats. Malissie was a great listener, and held many interests and was self educated in many areas. She was a member of Community Bible Church in Berlin.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 13, at 4 p.m. at Community Bible Church, 595 Sullivan Street, Berlin.
Scott D. Cloutier
READING, MASS. -- Mr. Scott D. Cloutier, 45, of 45 Ash St., Reading, Mass., passed away on May 5, 2008. He was born in Berlin on January 21, 1963, the son of Joseph D. and Karen L. (Murphy) Cloutier. He attended Berlin schools, served in the US Army, attended the NH Vocational Technical College then resided in Manchester. He has lived in Reading, for the past seven to eight years. He had been employed as a computer technician, loved football and his dogs Max and Lissie.
Members of the family include his mother, Karen L. Cloutier of Milan; two brothers, Kenneth Cloutier and Curtis Cloutier both of Berlin; three sisters, Colleen Leveille of Berlin, Pamela Phaneuf of Claremont, and Holly Paquette and husband Steven of Berlin; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Murphy of Lancaster; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Joseph D. Cloutier; maternal grandfather, Lawrence Murphy; paternal grandparents, Emery and Zina Cloutier and his step-father Roland Boutin.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 9, at 10 a.m. at the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, May 8, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery at a later date.
