Ida "Nana" Brusso
RAYMOND - Ida "Nana" Brusso, 82, died peacefully on Tuesday night, Aug. 6, 2002, at the Exeter Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
She was born June 21, 1920, in Fremont, the daughter of the late Ralph and Cora (Trickey) Rogers. She was a lifelong resident of Raymond.
Nana will always be remembered as having an "open door" at her house for family members and friends. She loved her children and grandchildren. She will always be special in our hearts.
She was an avid reader and card player.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Brusso, who died in 1989.
Mrs. Brusso is survived by three daughters, Yvonne Griffin of Portsmouth, Mrs. Peter (Becky) Harney of Raymond, and Heidi Brusso of Raymond; three sons, Triff Brusso and wife, Priscilla, of North Smithfield, R.I., Timothy Brusso and wife, Cheryl, of Raymond, and Bradley Brusso of Chicago; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rowena LeClair of Fremont; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Alice Waldron; brother, Clarence Rogers; daughter, Deborah Brusso; and grandson, Max.
BRUSSO - Ida "Nana" Brusso, 82, of Raymond, died Aug. 6, 2002. There are no calling hours. A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Old Pine Grove Cemetery, Raymond. The Rev. Mike Chouinard will officiate. Robert Moffitt
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Robert Moffitt, 82, of St. Petersburg, formerly of York, Maine, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002. Funeral services are incomplete at this time. Barbara E. (Long) Eastman
RYE - Barbara E. (Long) Eastman, 83, widow of retired Navy Capt. Robert S. Eastman, of 795 Washington Road and Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the Exeter Hospital in Exeter. She also had been a resident of Portsmouth for 21 years.
Born in Bellows Falls, Vt., on May 23, 1919, she was the daughter of John Joseph and Mary Frances (Sullivan) Long.
A sister, Margaret (Long) Avery of Lebanon, N.H., predeceased her.
A lover of life and highly spirited, she was an avid reader and gifted storyteller. Her interests included gardening, music, dancing, sports, her family and all things Irish.
She was a graduate of Hartford High School in White River Junction, Vt.
Survivors include eight children, David L. Eastman of South Tamworth, Judith E. Federowicz of Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., Jonathan G. Eastman of Heber, Utah, Mary Leone E. Borowski of Nashua, R. Stephen Eastman Jr. of North Conway, Susan E. Walton of Boulder, Colo., Thomas E. Eastman of Center Conway, and Jean Eastman Ryan of Rye; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
EASTMAN - Barbara E. (Long) Eastman, 83, of 795 Washington Road, Rye, died Aug. 7, 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Theresa’s Church, 815 Central Road, Rye. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home – Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Flowers will be accepted.
Mr. Phillippe Carrigan
KITTERY, Maine - Mr. Phillippe Carrigan, 88, of Kittery, formerly of Lewiston, died Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H.
Mr. Carrigan was born May 21, 1914, in Lewiston, the son of Joseph E. and Marrianne (Tanguay) Carrigan. He attended school in Lewiston. In 1954, he moved from Lewiston to Kittery.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during World War II, as an engineer.
For many years, he worked at Pepperell Mills and Bates Mills in Lewiston. He also worked as a pipefitter at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1974.
Mr. Carrigan was a member of the Lewiston American Legion, the Portsmouth (N.H.) Knights of Columbus, and the Disabled American Veterans.
In 1980, he was predeceased by his wife, Viola Petrie Carrigan, whom he married in 1930.
Mr. Carrigan is survived by his loving daughter, Mrs. Phyllis Fields and her husband, Robert, of Kittery.
There will be no visitation or public funeral services. A private family burial with military honors, provided by a contingent from Fort Drum, N.Y., will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.
Ralph Moulton
KITTERY, Maine - A funeral service for Ralph Moulton, who died Aug. 2, 2002, was held on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the First Christian Church in Kittery Point. The Rev. Duane Kellogg conducted the service. John Moulton was the organist. Words of remembrance were offered by family and friends. A delegation from the Naval Lodge No. 184 AM&FM was present, as well as employees of the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
A graveside committal service followed in First Christian Cemetery, Kittery Point. Following the services, the ladies of the church held a reception for family and friends of Mr. Moulton.
Pallbearers were Shawn Clancey, Howard Moulton, Jim Moulton, Mark Francillon, John Punches and Tom Guimond.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.
Dr. Suzann Bauer-Luceri
STRATHAM - Well-attended funeral services for Dr. Suzann Bauer-Luceri, 40, of 5 Dumbarton Oaks, were held Monday, Aug. 5, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church by Monsignor Lawrence Burns. Readings were given by Michelle Zaremba and Elaine Bauer. Organist was Maureen Sheehan, and soloist was Clara Cembalisty.
The eulogy was delivered by Nancy Bauer.
Burial was in the family lot in Calvary Cemetery, with Monsignor Burns conducting the committal. Pallbearers were Gary Bauer, Michael Bauer, Anthony Bauer and Gregory Bauer.
Helen Glover
KITTERY, Maine - Helen Glover, 92, also of Eliot, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at the Alternative House in Kittery following a brief illness.
She was born in Hull, Mass., on March 21, 1910, the daughter of Waldo Fred Glover and Gertrude Waller Simpson. She was a graduate of Boston University College of Liberal Arts in 1931.
She was employed by Ginn & Co. (formerly Xerox) in Boston, Mass., for 36 years before retiring in 1970.
According to her lifelong friend Mildred Obrey, Ms. Glover was very active in the town of Eliot as a member of the Republican Town Committee, the Eliot Garden Club, a charter member of the Friends of the Eliot Library, and the York County Teachers Society, as well as several of their committees. She was a contributing member of the Ladies Circle Group at the First Congregational Church of Eliot. She loved gardening and was instrumental in judging flowers at competitions. She would grow her own flowers and vegetables and would give them to people she met. She also traveled extensively with the York County Teachers Group and the Grange Hall.
She will be sadly missed by her nieces, Barbara Moore and Nancy Bressi of Bowie, Md.; as well as her many cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Glover.
GLOVER - Helen Glover, 92, of Kittery and Eliot, Maine, died July 30, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 17, 2002, at the First Congregational Church in Eliot. The Rev. Gail Kindburg will officiate. A time of sharing and remembrance will follow the service. Interment will take place at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.
Charles J. Burditt
SEABROOK - Charles J. Burditt, 82, of 30 New Zealand Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Mass.
He was born in Beverly, Mass., on June 20, 1920, the son of the late William D. and Frances (Longdon) Burditt.
He was a graduate of Hampton Academy and was a veteran of World Warr II, serving in the U.S. Army with Company C of the 120th Infantry Regiment of the 30th Infantry Division. He participated in the campaigns of the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe.
He was self-employed in the construction field and also worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and Burditt’s Bargain Center in Hampton Falls.
He was a member of the Trinity United Church, the Hampton American Legion Post 35 and the Seacoast Memorial VFW Post 8942 of Rye.
He was predeceased by a son, Charles J. Burditt Jr.
He leaves his longtime friend Maureen Donohue of Merrimac, Mass.; one son, David Burditt and his wife, Ivy, of Hampton Falls; three daughters, Audrey Brindle of Seabrook, Ruth Ann Burditt of Eliot, Maine, and Frances Burditt of Fort Myers, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Walton of Hampton Falls, and Effie Eaton of Seabrook; and several nieces and nephews.
BURDITT - Charles J. Burditt, 82, of 30 New Zealand Road, Seabrook, died Aug. 7, 2002. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call between 10 a.m. and the hour of the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, Seabrook. Harold E. Bushway
HAMPTON - Harold E. Bushway, 82, of 55 Park Ave., died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon after a sudden illness.
He was born in North Walpole on July 7, 1920, a son of the late George and Emma (Weiber) Bushway.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater.
He was the proprietor of Bushway Plumbing and Heating in North Walpole from 1955 to 1969. After moving to Hampton in 1969, he owned and operated Ferncroft Recreation Center at Hampton Beach until his retirement in 1980.
A devoted husband and father, he was also an avid gardener and Red Sox fan. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, a former communicant of St. Peter’s Church in North Walpole and a former member of the Bellows Falls, Vt., B.P.O.E.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Bernard, Ernest, and Albert; and one sister, Gladys.
He was the husband of Avis S. (Edwards) Bushway for 53 years.
In addition to his wife, family members include three children, Christine M. Bushway of Hampton, Patricia J. Bushway of Alexandria, Va., and Richard S. Bushway of Hampton; one granddaughter, Jana J. Bushway; one brother, Joseph Bushway of North Walpole; two sisters, Rose Cloutier of North Walpole and Grace Shelc of Bellows Falls, Vt.; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
BUSHWAY - Harold E. Bushway, 82, of 55 Park Ave., Hampton, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002. Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Jane V. Rouillard
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. - Jane V. Rouillard, 78, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002, at her home, from complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death.
Born Oct. 4, 1923, in Babylon, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Arthur E. and Jane M. Vidal. She graduated as valedictorian from Babylon High School in 1941. She received a full academic scholarship to Smith College, which she was unable to accept due to personal circumstances.
She married Walter Kupchak in 1947, from whom she was widowed in 1958.
She moved to the Glens Falls area in 1959 upon her marriage to the late Warren E. Rouillard, where she resided for 43 years.
She was predeceased by her only sister, Anne E. Vidal.
She was active in the Glens Falls community, serving as a member of the D.A.R. and volunteering for the American Cancer Society. An avid golfer, she was a member of the Glens Falls Country Club and the Saratoga Golf and Polo Club, and the Cape Arundel Golf Club in Kennebunkport, Maine, where she summered. She was an excellent athlete, pursuing several athletic activities. In her youth, she was featured in the New York Times as one of the first women to water-ski. At the age of 70, she parasailed for the first time, impressing friends and family with her daring nature.
Her passions included gourmet cooking, and entertaining for friends and family. Her dinner parties were not-to-miss occasions, with friends eagerly anticipating the next invitation. She was a competitive card player, playing bridge regularly until just recently. Additional hobbies included reading and crossword puzzles. Each Sunday, she looked forward to her New York Times delivery.
She is survived by her six children, Mark O. K. Rouillard, Shelley R. Keene, Jeffrey S. Rouillard, Warren F. Rouillard, Andrew B. Rouillard, and Lisa R. Miller; two sons-in-law, Burt M. Keene Jr. and Roger H. Miller; two daughters-in-law, Susan D. Rouillard and Martha R. Rouillard; Brent Thomsen, life partner of Andrew Rouillard; eight grandchildren, Lauren L. Keene, Haley M. Keene, Meghan K. Rouillard, Kathryn B. Rouillard, Gretchen R. Rouillard, Meredith J. Rouillard, Brian A. Rouillard, and Hannah R. Rouillard; and her constant companion of recent years, Robert W. Mc Donough.
ROUILLARD - Jane V. Rouillard, of Glens Falls, N.Y., and Kennebunkport, Maine, died Aug. 7, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church, corner of Glen and Notre Dame streets, Glens Falls. The Rev. Cheryl Colter, associate pastor, will officiate. A reception in Jane’s memory will follow at the Glens Falls Country Club. Her family would like to thank her special friends, Carla, Liz, Janet, Cindy, Marianne and Betty, for their extraordinary care and friendship with Jane during her illness.
Elizabeth "Betty" P. Hutchinson
LACONIA - Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" P. Hutchinson, 87, of 17 Nutmeg Circle, died at her home on Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002.
Mrs. Hutchinson was born Aug. 19, 1914, in Watertown, Mass., the daughter of Ralph F. and Bertha (Chamberlain) Perry. She graduated from Watertown (Mass.) High School in 1931 and received a bachelor of science degree from Massachusetts State University, Amherst, in 1935. She was a home economics teacher and taught for one year in Amherst. In 1950, she moved to Laconia, where she taught for 19 years before retiring in 1976.
Mrs. Hutchinson was a member of the Laconia-Gilford First United Methodist Church. She was a member and past president of the New Hampshire Home Economics Association, a member of the Lakes Region Retired Teachers Association, the N.H. Retired Home Economics Association, the National Retired Teachers Association, the Opechee Garden Club, the Laconia Salvation Army Auxiliary, American Association of Retired Persons, the National Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.) and was founder and past president of the Lakes Region chapter.
Giving is living, a profound expression describes a lifetime that is defined by sharing. Living is giving, a phrase full of challenge. Betty Hutchinson embodied both of these qualities with her caring.
Mrs. Hutchinson was predeceased by her husband, Richard H. Hutchinson, who died in 1963.
She is survived by two sons, Robert E. Hutchinson of Phippsburg, Maine, and David S. Hutchinson of Madison, Wis.; three grandchildren, Christopher Hutchinson of Aspen, Colo., Richard Hutchinson of Concord, and Julia Hutchinson-Smith of Mt. Vernon, N.Y.; a great-grandson, Lukas Hutchinson Smith of Mt. Vernon; a sister, Irene Morrill of Acton, Mass.; and many nephews and nieces.
HUTCHINSON - Elizabeth "Betty" P. Hutchinson, 87, of Nutmeg Circle, Laconia, died on Aug. 8, 2002. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 500 Gilford Ave., Gilford, on Monday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Victoria Wood Parrish, pastor of the church, will officiate. Private burial will be in the family lot at Union Cemetery, Laconia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 7408, Gilford, NH 03247-7408; or to Community Health and Hospice Inc., 780 North Main St., Laconia, NH 03246.
