James A. deRochemont
RYE - Mr. James A. deRochemont Jr., 71, husband of Nancy Jane (Cooney) deRochemont, of 5 Frontier Street, died Friday, May 17, 2002 at his home.
He was born in Kittery, Maine, on Sept. 16, 1930, the son of the late James A. deRochemont Sr. and Gladys M. (Manson) deRochemont. He was raised in Newington, and had attended Newington and Portsmouth schools. During the Korean War, he served in the Army. In his early years, he was employed with his father as a heavy equipment operator for the Town of Newington. He was also employed as a heavy equipment operator for City of Portsmouth, retiring after 25 years in 1990.
Mr. deRochemont was a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #97 of Portsmouth.
Besides his wife of 47 years, survivors include two sons, Scott B. deRochemont and his wife Michele of Portsmouth, and Donn E. deRochemont and his wife Gina of Rollinsford; one granddaughter, Corinne M. deRochemont of Portsmouth; his sister, Gwen Anderson of Stratham; and several nieces and nephews.

Gertrude Foss
RYE - A funeral service for Mrs. Gertrude (Gilliam) Foss, 90, of 328 Washington Road, was held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth on Saturday. Father Gordon Allen officiated.
In attendance were members of St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth; St. John's Lodge No. 1 F&AM of Portsmouth; Senior Friends of Portsmouth Regional Hospital; and representatives from the James E. Whalley Museum and Library.
Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth, with committal services by Father Allen. Bearers were Terry Sullivan, Andy Adams and Mike Sullivan.
Frank A. McPhee
HAMPTON FALLS - Frank A. McPhee, 89, of 26 Drinkwater Road, died Friday, May 17, 2002, at the Inn of Deerfield.
He was born in South Boston, Mass., April 20, 1913, the son of the late George W. and Bertha A. (Hoeft) McPhee.
He was employed as an instruction specialist in the turbine division of the General Electric Riverworks plant in Lynn, Mass., for more than 50 years, retiring in 1978.
He had resided in Lynn until moving to Hampton Falls in 1970. While living in Lynn he was active with the First Congregational Church; served as treasurer for 40 years of the Bethlehem Lodge A.F. & A.M. of Lynn; Sutton Royal Arch Chapter RAM; Zebulun Council R & SM; Olivet Commandery No. 36 KT; and Grand Encampton of Knights Templer.
While residing in Hampton Falls he attended the First Baptist Church and was a former member of the church choir.
He was the husband of Marjorie L. (Bronsdon) McPhee for 67 years.
In addition to his wife, family members include one son, Frank A. "Bud" McPhee Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of West Nottingham; two daughters, Nancy L. Sabins and her husband, Donald, of Union, Maine, and Lorraine B. Preece and her husband, Richard, of Lafollette, Tenn.; one sister, Bertha Young of Centralia, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
McPHEE - Frank A. McPhee, 89, of 26 Drinkwater Road, Hampton Falls, died May 17, 2002. Services will be held in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, on Monday at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Lottie L. Pettee
PORTSMOUTH - Lottie Louise (Robinson) Pettee, 89, wife of Raymond M. Pettee, of 76 Suzanne Drive, died Saturday, May 18, 2002, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
She was born in Canaan, Maine, the daughter of Ralph F. and Catherine Jane (Brace) Robinson. She attended Bangor High School.
She was a member of the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth and a member of the women's club of the church. She had been employed at Kimball's Dept. Store as manager in the fabric department, then went to work for Goodwin Oil Co. as a bookkeeper.
She was a member of the Downeast Western Square Dance Club for 48 years.
Besides her husband, survivors include one son, Ronald W. Pettee and his wife, Mary S., of Syracuse, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Michael D. Pettee, Kelley K. Pettee, Sara A. Pettee and Amy E. Pettee; two brothers, Ray Robinson of Hermon, Maine, and Ralph Robinson and his wife, Bea, of Fort Myers, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
PETTEE - Lottie Louise (Robinson) Pettee, 89, of 76 Suzanne Drive, Portsmouth, died Saturday, May 18, 2002. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours are 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Chapel. Clifton S. Bishop
CONCORD - Memorial services for Clifton S. Bishop, 47, of Concord were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Sunday. Mr. Paul Ward of the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall, Kittery, Maine, officiated.
In attendance were members of the Kingdom Hall in Kittery.

Marshall P. Hall
GALES FERRY, Conn. - Marshall P. "Pete" Hall, 66, of 7 Overlook Drive, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London. He was born Nov. 9, 1935, in West Newton, Mass., the son of the late Marshall L. and Melina R. (Filion) Hall.
He attended Sanborn Seminary in Kingston, N.H., until 1952, followed by the Admiral Billard Academy in New London in 1953. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1964 with a degree in electrical engineering and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was employed at Tracor Inc. in Groton as vice president of the Engineering Services Division for 23 years until his retirement in 1990. A member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, and a former member of the Chamber of Commerce in Southeast Connecticut, he co-authored "The AN/BQS-13 Rapid Installation Plan," which was presented at the 1976 Annual Technical Symposium of the Association of Senior Engineers, Naval Ship Systems Command. An avid bowler, he bowled in the "Triple S" league in Groton for nearly 25 years and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy W. (Chase) Hall, of Gales Ferry; his three children, Mr. and Mrs. Michael P. Hall of Norfolk, Va., and Susan L. Hall and Linda L. Hall, both of Gales Ferry; and four granddaughters, Krystle A. Hall, Morgan E. Barrett, Vanessa L. Bell and Julia R. Hall.
HALL - Marshall P. "Pete" Hall, 66, of Gales Ferry, Conn., died May 19, 2002. Katherine L. Moroney
ELIOT, Maine - Katherine L. Moroney, 38, of 212 River Road, and formerly of Middle Road, Dover, N.H., died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, after a long illness.
Born Oct. 1, 1963, in Dover, N.H., she was a daughter of Robert and Katherine (Barker) Dowaliby.
A graduate of Dover High School, she went on to Hesser College, where she graduated with a degree in medical assistance.
She was employed as a certified medical assistant at Martin's Point Health Center of Portsmouth, N.H.
She enjoyed traveling to warm places, especially the Caribbean. She also enjoyed working out, gardening, and her dog "River." She was a very caring person and simply enjoyed life.
She is survived by her husband, James F. Moroney of Eliot; her parents of Dover; a sister, Deborah Newton and her husband, Richard, of Somersworth, N.H.; a brother, Dennis Dowaliby and his wife, Wendy, of Rochester, N.H.; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and her dog, River.
MORONEY - Katherine L. Moroney, 38, of Eliot, Maine, and formerly of Dover, died May 19, 2002. Friends and relatives may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 2002, at the Holy Trinity Church, High Street, Somersworth, with the Rev. Steve Kucharski, pastor, as celebrant. Albert R. Mead
OLDSMAR, Fla. - Albert (Al) R. Mead, formerly of Portsmouth, N.H., died May 6, 2002, after a lengthy illness. He had been a resident of Oldsmar for 20 years.
He was a devoted American and proudly served 21 years in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was also an avid NASCAR fan, and in his later years he spent many hours enjoying the races on television.
During his illness he expressed a desire to remain at home. At his passing, he was surrounded by his wife, his son and a hospice R.N. He will be missed dearly by all and will always be remembered as a loving and devoted husband and the best father and grandfather.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Olson Mead; a son, Stephen B. Mead and his wife, Nancy, of Pinellas Park, Fla.; a daughter, Nancy J. Townsend and her husband, Derek Sr., of Willingboro, N.J.; three brothers, William of Lunenberg, Mass., Gerald of S. Portland, Maine, and Milton of Hillsboro, N.H.; two sisters, Marilyn Murphy and Judith Shaw, both of S. Portland, Maine; and five grandchildren, Cherise Townsend, Michael Hill, Derek Townsend II, Zachary Mead, and Rebecca Mead.
The hospice organization played a very important role in his care. It is the family's wish that any and all donations be sent to Hospice Foundation of the Florida Suncoast, 300 East Bay Drive, Largo, FL 33770-9850.
Diane L. Sanders
YORK, Maine - Diane Leona Sanders, 59, formerly of Phillips, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, at York Hospital after a long battle with cancer.
She was born March 15, 1943, in Farmington, a daughter of Leon M. and Dorothy (Hinkley) Sanders. She graduated from Phillips High School in 1961.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Farmington State Teachers College in 1965 and a Master of Science degree in education from the University of Maine, Portland-Gorham (USM) in 1971. She taught in the York school system for 31 years, teaching grades 5 and 6 in English, language arts, reading, social studies and computer technology. She served as language arts coordinator for five years. She was involved in many projects such as The Writing Process Curriculum, district recertification, and the District Technology Committee, which wrote Project Point. She was active in the York Teachers' Association and served as its president and was a member of the National Education Association and the Maine Education Association.
She was active in the following organizations: AAUW (past state president), York County Retired Teachers Association (secretary), and Delta Kappa Gamma (Iota Chapter and Alpha Psi State Maine). She was past president of the Iota Chapter and served on many committees. Her service to Alpha Psi State Maine included recording secretary, second and first vice president, and president from 1997 to 1999. She attended and assisted at many international and regional conferences.
She enjoyed reading, traveling, walking the beach, cross-country skiing, going to the theater, crafts and working on the computer. She especially cherished her time spent with her three nephews.
Survivors include her mother, Dorothy Sanders of Phillips; a sister, Veronica Richter and her husband, Scott, of Shutesbury, Mass.; and three nephews, Stuart, Andrew and Ian Richter.
She was predeceased by her father, Leon M. Sanders, who died in August of 1987.
SANDERS - Diane Leona Sanders, 59, of York, Maine, formerly of Phillips, died May 19, 2002, in York. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22, 2002, from the Phillips Congregational Church. Burial will follow at the Bray Hill Cemetery. Lillian Pearce
RAYMOND - Lillian Pearce, 76, of 4 Ledgewood Lane, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at the Exeter Hospital.
She was born in Milton, Mass., on March 3, 1926, a daughter of the late Gilmore and Anna (Coburn) Sanfilippo.
She resided on Boston's South Shore, attending school in Hingham, Mass. She moved to Hampton in 1959, where she lived for 20 years before moving to Florida. Most recently she had lived in Exeter and Epping and at the time of her death in Raymond.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, crafts, children and, most of all, music.
She was the wife of Rudolph A. Pearce for 58 years.
In addition to her husband, family members include four sons, Stephen Pearce of North Hampton, John Pearce of Wolfeboro Falls, William Pearce of Newmarket, and Thomas Pearce of Heathrow, Fla.; four daughters, Carolyn Bray of Nashua, Sandra Hunt of Houston, Texas, Sharon Mulligan of Brandon, Fla., and Barbara Bragg of Nottingham; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter Dunbar of Abington, Mass., and Fred Dunbar of Norwell, Mass.; and two sisters, Bertha Hill of California, and Jessie Bradley of Hingham, Mass.

Lorraine L. Freeman
CAPE NEDDICK, Maine - Lorraine L. Freeman, 80, of 82 River Road, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at her residence, after a long illness.
She was born on Aug. 23, 1921, in Worcester, Mass., a daughter of Napoleon and Alma (St. Martin) Ledoux, and was a graduate of the Worcester School of Commerce.
She moved to Portsmouth, N.H., at age 18 and worked at the button factory and later in the safety department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
She and her husband had owned and operated Freeman's Market in Cape Neddick from 1952 until 1984.
She was a communicant of St. Christopher-by-the-Sea Church of York. She was a former member of the Star of the Sea Sodality and the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Napoleon and Leonard Ledoux, who both died during World War II.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Robert E. Freeman Sr. of Cape Neddick; two sons, Robert E. Freeman Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Kittery Point, and Craig M. Freeman of York; one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Diane L.) Losier of Cape Neddick; one sister, Mrs. Raymond (Estelle) Bernard of Newmarket, N.H.; three grandchildren, Nathan and Danielle Losier and Zachary Freeman; three stepgrandchildren, Christopher and Glendon Yorke and Matthew Jones.
FREEMAN - Lorraine L. Freeman, of 82 River Road, Cape Neddick, Maine, died Tuesday, May 21, 2002, in Cape Neddick. A Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of Life will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday at St. Christopher Church, York Street, York. Visiting hours will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Sgt. Donald J. Goodale
YORK, Maine - Retired Air Force Tech. Sgt. Donald J. Goodale, 64, of 28 Cain Crest Road, died Monday, May 20 2002, at York Hospital.
He was born in South Hampton, N.Y., on Oct. 26, 1937, the son of Donald L. and Jennie (Nicholson) Goodale, and was a 1956 graduate of West Hampton High School.
He had served as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years, serving during the Vietnam War and retiring from Pease Air Force Base in 1976. He later worked in the nuclear engineering department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Shop 38 for 16 years. Most recently he worked as a tollbooth attendant for the Maine Turnpike Authority at the York tolls.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Newington Chapter, and the Sergeants Association. He was an avid golfer and bowler and was a member of the Pease Golf Club and the New Hampshire Retired Bowling League at Bowl USA. He also enjoyed collecting music.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia A. (Canning) Goodale of York; one son, Paul James Goodale of East Rochester, N.H.; one daughter, Penni A. Kavin of New Sweden; nine grandchildren; and his stepmother, Mildred Goodale of Quogue, N.Y.
GOODALE - Retired Air Force Tech. Sgt. Donald J. Goodale, 64, of Cain Crest Road, York, Maine, died Monday, May 20, 2002, in York. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Visiting hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
