Lucille Colby
DOVER - Lucille Colby, 86, of Riverside Rest Home, died May 16, 2002, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, after a long period of failing health.
Born in Gonic on July 19, 1915, she was a lifelong resident of the Rochester area.
She was a librarian at the Rochester Public Library for several years prior to her retirement in 1968. She enjoyed books and crossword puzzles and was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a communicant of St. Leo Church in Gonic.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Colby, in 1988, after 49 years of marriage.
She is survived by two sons, David Colby and his wife, Bettina, of Rye, N.H., and Mark Colby and his wife, Diana, of Cookstown, N.J.; a daughter, Susan Keith and her husband, Vaughn, of Rochester; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Clifton S. Bishop
CONCORD - Clifton S. Bishop, 47, husband of Rita (Miller) Bishop of Somersworth, died May 15, 2002, in Concord.
He was born in Exeter on Aug. 1, 1954, a son of Doris L. (MacDougal) Bishop Jolly and the late Andrew J. Bishop. He attended Portsmouth schools. He was formerly employed for A-1 Taxis in Portsmouth.
Besides his wife, Rita, and his mother, Doris Jolly of Portsmouth, survivors include three children, Trudy Bishop of North Conway, Clifton Bishop Jr. of Kennebunk, Maine, and Cristy Bishop of Eliot, Maine; three grandchildren, Nichole Trott of North Conway, Kelly Trott of North Conway, and Hannah Bishop of Kennebunk, Maine; two brothers, Andrew Bishop of Berlin, and Edward Bishop; three sisters, Loucretia Thompson of Rochester, Audrey D. Raps of Portsmouth, and Mary Bishop of Portsmouth; and several nieces and nephews.
His sister Lillian Wilie and his stepfather, Francis Jolly, predeceased him.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.
Raleigh G. Martin
SANFORD, Maine - Raleigh G. Martin, 70, died Thursday morning, May 16, 2002, at the H.D. Goodall Hospital in Sanford.
He was born on July 17, 1931, in Collinwood, Tenn., a son of James and Ruth Morris Martin. It was there he attended schools and graduated from Collinwood H.S.
Following his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. While serving, he was stationed in Portsmouth, N.H., where he served as a prison guard at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. It is also where he met his wife-to-be, Elaine Merrifield Martin, at the beach.
After his discharge from the service, he worked for the Local 976 Laborers Union and the Local 1 Bricklayers Union, retiring in 1997. He was a member of the Masonic Order, the Order of Eastern Star, and the Shriners.
He was an avid collector of pocket watches. Over the years he collected several hundred watches, which he learned to clean and repair with great precision. He also enjoyed collecting old Stanley tools, but above all he enjoyed spending time at home with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Predeceasing him was a brother, James Earl Martin.
Surviving is his wife, Elaine Merrifield Martin of Sanford; six sons, Raleigh G. of Alfred, Kevin T. (Kimberly) of Epping, N.H., Brian E. of Alfred, Shawn M. (Kathy) of Berwick, Davis M. (Lisa) of Middletown, Conn., and Luke J. Martin of Sanford; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Earlene Martin-Hayes, Mary Ellen Berry, Doris A. Stults, and Diane Martin-Butler, and a brother, John Frank Martin, all of Tennessee.
MARTIN - Raleigh G. Martin, 70, of Sanford, Maine, died May 16, 2002. A period of visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2002, at the Heald Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale, Maine. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2002, at the North Parish Congregational Church in Sanford. For those who desire, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.
WILLIS - Richard L. Willis, 63, of Eliot, Maine, died May 15, 2002, at York Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 20, 2002, at the Eliot United Methodist Church on Route 236 in Eliot. Family flowers only; donations may be made in his memory to the Eliot United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund, or to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.
Winnifred Kotsimpulos
PORTLAND, Maine - Private graveside services for Winnifred Kotsimpulos were held at 10 a.m. on May 16, 2002, at First Parish Cemetery, York. The Rev. Paige Blair officiated. Family and friends shared special memories of Winnifred's life. Services were under the direction of the Hay & Peabody Funeral Home, Portland. Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home of Kittery assisted.
George E. Morgan
DENVER, Colo. - George Eldred Morgan, a longtime resident of Kennebunkport, Maine, and a World War II Navy officer, died May 1, 2002, in a suburban Denver hospital after a long illness.
He was 81.
A Chicago native, born Feb. 4, 1921, Morgan received a Bachelor of Science degree in journalism from Northwestern University in 1942. He then volunteered for military duty and spent much of the war commanding a wooden-hulled sub-chaser in the Caribbean Sea, hunting for Nazi U-boats that plied the waters disrupting oil shipments from Venezuela.
He was discharged in 1946 as a lieutenant junior grade and was awarded the American Theater of Victory Medal.
After the war, he held a number of marketing and advertising positions in Chicago; New York; Memphis, Tenn.; and Los Angeles. Early in his career he assisted in the production of the "Captain Midnight" television program. In later years he worked as a free-lance writer.
He lived for 14 years in Pacific Palisades, Calif., moving to Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1986. He moved to Littleton in June 2000.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, the former Marcia Fisher of Littleton; four children from a previous marriage: Geoffrey Morgan of San Antonio, Texas, Taylor Monroe of Lake Forest, Ill., Elizabeth Tanner of Wilmette, Ill., and Jon Morgan of Baltimore; two stepdaughters, Julie Love of Littleton, and Dr. Susan Bentley of Louisville, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
A service was held May 12, 2002, in Denver. Memorial contributions may be made to CaP Cure, a prostate cancer research organization at 1250 Fourth Street, Suite 360, Santa Monica, CA 90401.
Richard Lee Willis
ELIOT, Maine - Richard Lee Willis Sr., 63, of Beech Road, died May 15, 2002, at York Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on Jan. 18, 1939, he was a son of Harry Sr. and Eleanor (Minard) Willis. He was a lifelong resident of Eliot, graduating from Eliot High School with the Class of 1957.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country as a Seabee. He was later employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a pipe fitter, retiring in 1994.
He loved hunting and fishing and was a well-known woodworking craftsman. He also enjoyed trips to camp in Rockwood with his best friends Paul and Janet Abendroth of Wells.
He was a past Lions Club member and was a member of the Eliot United Methodist Church.
He was a caring and courageous man who always wore a smile; he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of more than 36 years, Claudette (Robinson) Willis of Eliot; a son, Richard L. Willis Jr. and his wife, Kelly, and their daughter, Brittney, of Berwick; his daughters, Lora Esteep and her husband, Jim, and their sons, JD and Tyler, of New Glouster, and Tammy Mickalis and her husband, Brian, and their daughter, Brianna, of Summerville S.C.; a brother, Albert Willis of Sidney; and a sister-in-law, Lois Willis of Kittery; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Harry Willis Jr.
Herbert W. Tufts
OGUNQUIT, Maine - Herbert W. Tufts Jr. died May 16, 2002, at Harbor Home in York.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn (Bracy) Tufts of Ogunquit; two sons, Herbert W. Tufts III of Ocean Springs, Miss., and John H. Tufts of Marrero, La.; one daughter, Patricia A. Parsons of Lake Geneva, Wis.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be private.
William M. Riley
HOLLIS - William M. Riley, 58, died Thursday May 16, 2002, at his home after a battle with cancer.
Mr. Riley was born April 10, 1944, in Portsmouth, the son of the late William and Mary (Leary) Riley. He grew up in Portsmouth and has since made his home in Hollis.
He was the husband of Nancy (Babin) Riley, formerly of Manchester.
They recently celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary. He was the father of Michael and Mollie Riley, both of Hollis.
Mr. Riley worked for RSVI Acuity CiMatrix in Nashua as vice president of engineering.
He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a communicant at Resurrection Parish. He was active in Democratic politics and was president of the Breakers Condominium Association in Rye. After graduation from Portsmouth High School in 1961, he received his masters degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and continued his graduate work at the University of New Hampshire and University of Massachusetts at Lowell, where he studied electrical engineering.
In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his cousins Tom Leary and his wife Nancy, and Mary Ellen (Leary) Wayne and her husband Robert and their many children and grandchildren.
RILEY - William M. Riley, 58, of Hollis died May 16, 2002. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. James Church, Route 1, Lafayette Road, Portsmouth on Monday at 1 p.m. Visiting hours are at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society Centralized Memorial Processing Center, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
Stanley L. Ridlon
GREENLAND - Mr. Stanley L. Ridlon, 71, of 49 Sunset Drive, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
He was born in Franklin, N.H., on Oct. 11, 1930, the son of the late Fred and Esther (Rayno) Ridlon.
Mr. Ridlon served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was employed as a mechanic in Shop 02 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1985, and was an avid model railroader.
Survivors include three brothers, Wesley Ridlon of Massachusetts, Eugene Ridlon of Berwick, Maine, and Roger Ridlon of Kingston, N.H.; a sister, Emma Gosselin of Sanbornton, N.H.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Madeline Landry.
RIDLON - Stanley L. Ridlon, 71, of Greenland, died May 16, 2002. A funeral service will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, Monday at 2 p.m. with visiting hours Monday from 1-2 p.m., one hour prior to service. Friends invited. Family flowers only. Alice M. Smith
HAMPTON FALLS - The funeral for Alice M. Smith, 91, formerly of Kensington Road, Hampton Falls, was held Friday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. The Rev. Dr. Kenneth G. Lawrence, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hampton Falls, officiated. Jean Goss was organist. Burial followed in the Nason Cemetery, Hampton Falls with the committal service conducted by Rev. Lawrence.
Marjorie H. Swasey
PORTSMOUTH - Marjorie H. (Small) Swasey, 77, wife of Walter M. Swasey, of 137 Walker Bungalow Road, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
She was born in Worcester, Mass., on Nov. 16, 1924, the daughter of the late John P. and Hazel C. (Marean) Small.
Mrs. Swasey was a graduate of Traip Academy in Kittery, Maine, Class of 1944. She was a member of the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth, North Church Women and the Rivermouth Chapter #54, Order of the Eastern Star of Portsmouth. She was also an active volunteer at the Nearly New Shop.
She enjoyed traveling throughout the country with her husband and meeting with many of their friends.
Besides her husband of 56 years, survivors include two children, Andrea L. Sanks of Federal Way, Wash., and Robert P. Swasey of South Berwick, Maine; three grandchildren, John J. Sanks of Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan, and John W. and Kayla M. Swasey, both of South Berwick; one niece, Jan Lewis of Babson Park, Fla., and one nephew, Ken Scott of South Yarmouth, Mass.
She was predeceased by a sister, Louise Scott and a nephew, John Scott.
SWASEY - Mrs. Marjorie H. (Small) Swasey, 77, of Portsmouth, died May 16, 2002. KITTERY - Funeral Services were held for Eugene Clough of Kittery who died on May 12. 2002 in York.
Masonic services were held on Thursday evening at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery with the Worshipful Jeffrey Ferren Master of Naval Lodge in Kittery presiding, also taking part in the service were Wor. Al Hope Grand Lodge Chaplain, RW Elroy Moulton III., Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 19th District of the Grand Lodge of Maine, Wor. Bruce Wiggin who presented the "Hour Glass," Wor. Howard Moulton, Wor. Tim Hawkes, Wor. George McLean, Wor. Don Coates, Bro. Steve Zimmerman Senior Steward, Bro. William Boltz Junior Steward, Bro. Don Hands, Senior Deacon, Bro. Kevin Culle, Junior Warden, and Bro. George Seward, Tyler. Graveside services were held on Friday morning at Harmony Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Steven Aldrich from the Church at Spruce Creek in Kittery officiating. Kinds words of remembrance were offered on behalf of the family by Peter Brown, Mr. Clough's son in law. Military Honors were provided by Sgt. Oleary and members of the 10th Mountain Division of the United States Army sta
tioned at Ft. Drum, New York. The United States Burial Flag was presented to Mr. Clough's son George Clough. Arrangements were entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home of Kittery.

Lewis K. Gaffney
HAMPTON - The funeral for Lewis K. Gaffney Sr., 76, of 46 Jenness Road, Epping, formerly of Hampton was held Friday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. The Rev. Carroll C. Moore, pastor of the United Methodist Church officiated. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery with the committal service conducted by Rev. Moore. Taps was sounded and the flag that covered the casket was folded by a detachment of Naval personnel and presented to Mr. Gaffney's son, Lewis K. Gaffney Jr.
Clarence E. Brown
EXETER, N.H. - Clarence E. Brown, 68, of Winter Street, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at the Exeter Hospital after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 24, 1933 in Exeter, N.H., son of the late William and Hattie (Glover) Brown.
Mr. Brown was a longtime resident of Exeter and formerly of Epping where he went to school.
He was a veteran of the Army having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #32 of Exeter.
He was employed as a plumber in the Exeter area his whole life. He retired in the late 1980s.
Mr. Brown attended the Exeter Baptist Church. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, and bowling at the Exeter Lanes two nights a week. He was an avid Red Sox fan.
He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Rob (Karen) Mitrook of Exeter; one son and his wife, William and Laurie Brown of Mt. Vernon, N.H.; four grandchildren; one sister, Helen Pelletier of Epping; one brother, Elmer Brown of Epping; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
BROWN - Clarence E. Brown, 68, of Winter Street, Exeter, died May 16, 2002. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter, N.H. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow in the Exeter Cemetery.
