Anita Eldridge
RYE - Anita Eldridge, RN, 91, of 795 Washington Road, formerly of Central Road, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at Webster at Rye Health and Retirement.
She was born Sept. 19, 1910, in San Macario, Italy, a daughter of the late Luigi and Purissima (DeTomasi) Zocchi. She came to America at age 9 and resided in Newmarket until moving to Rye in 1950. She attended Newmarket schools and was a graduate of the Addison Gilbert Hospital School of Nursing in Gloucester, Mass. She did her postgraduate studies in mental and nervous disorders at the New Hampshire State Hospital in Concord. She was a former member of the New Hampshire Medical Society.
She was the widow of William W. Eldridge, who died in 1987. She was also predeceased by her brother, Mario Zocchi, who died last month.
Family members include her son, Roy L. Eldridge of Freedom; two granddaughters, Debbie Adams and Marianne Eldridge; four great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Megan, Kris and Patrick; a sister, Dorothy Zocchi of Newmarket; a niece, Marsha Edwards; a nephew, Paul Zocchi; and several cousins.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the graveside in Central Cemetery, Rye. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. James J. Sullivan
VICTORVILLE, Calif. - James J. Sullivan, 75, died April 27, 2002, at St. Mary Medical Center.
He was born in Portsmouth, N.H., and attended St. Patrick's School, Portsmouth High School, and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard apprentice school. He had been a resident of Victorville for 38 years.
He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a chief master sergeant and was a veteran of Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was a former member of the Victorville Elks Lodge #1877, and a member of Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church.
Formerly he worked part-time for the Harris Transportation Company of Victorville.
He is survived by his sister, Mary Curran, of Kittery, Maine; and his adopted family, Bo and Lois Ratliff, Misty Ratliff, Crystal Ratliff, Travis Ratliff and Jarod Ratliff, all of Victorville, and Justin Ratliff and Janelle Ratliff of Apple Valley.
SULLIVAN - James J. Sullivan, 75, of Victorville, Calif., died April 27, 2002. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Victor Valley Mortuary, 15609 Eleventh St., Victorville, Calif. Religious services will be held at 10 a.m. on May 1, 2002, at Our Lady of the Desert Catholic Church. Burial will be in Desert View Memorial Park in Victorville.
John P. King
DOVER - John P. King, 89, formerly of Belknap Street, died Monday, April 29, 2002, at St. Ann Home.
He was born in Rochester on Aug. 30, 1912, the son of Michael and Catherine (Scahill) King.
He was a graduate of St. Mary Christian Brothers School and Brookline (Mass.) High School. He was also a graduate of McIntosh College, and was an L.U.T.C. graduate.
John served in the Pacific Theatre with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was a member of the Dover Post No. 8 American Legion and the Christie-Drouin Post No. 752 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was elected to and served one term in the New Hampshire Legislature in 1937.
Mr. King was an insurance sales representative for the Prudential Insurance Co. for 35 years and retired in 1975. He was a member of the Insurance Life Underwriters.
John was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Our Lady of the Rosary Council No. 807 Knights of Columbus and the Rev. Thomas Reilly Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a former state president of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.
He was the husband of the late Agatha E. (Smith) King, who died in 1997.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, including, Kathleen Hunt of Hampstead, Susan Crowley of Oxnard, Calif., Greg Smith of Dover, Jean Smith-Kelly of Abington, Mass., Liane Smith of Dover, Christine Stadler of Portsmouth, Moire Hayes of Durham, Kevin Smith of Virginia Beach, Va.; several grandnieces and grandnephews; two cousins, Marie Flowers Kelley of Dover and Thomas Kerins of Contoocook; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Keenan of Portsmouth.
Mr. King was predeceased by two sisters, Nora King and Sister Mary Catherina, RSM, who died in November 2001.
KING - John P. King, 89, formerly of Belknap Street, Dover, died April 29, 2002, at St. Ann Home. Pauline P. Baillargeon
EXETER - Pauline P. Baillargeon, 71, of 16 Tremont St., died Monday, April 29, 2001, at her home.
A lifelong resident of Exeter, she was born May 3, 1930, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Lake) Caswell.
Mrs. Baillargeon attended Robinson Female Seminary and worked for School Administrative Unit 16 as a custodial aide for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and enjoyed camping and traveling.
She was the wife of Arthur V. Baillargeon of Exeter for 55 years.
In addition to her husband, survivors include three daughters, Denise X. Sweetser of Stratham, Lurene K. Bell of Jaffrey, and Sandy Sheridan of North Hampton; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman K. Caswell of Newmarket; one sister, Charlotte Thorssell of Exeter; and several nieces and nephews.
BAILLARGEON - Pauline P. Baillargeon of 16 Tremont St., Exeter, died April 29, 2002. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. George W. Greene
KITTERY POINT, Maine - Well-attended funeral services were held Saturday morning, April 27, 2002, at the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, 24 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton, N.H., for George W. Greene, 66, of 2 Tower Road, who died Sunday, April 21, 2002, at his residence.
Nearly 200 family members and friends gathered for services conducted by Pastor David A. Ayer of the Assembly of God Church in York. Organist was Marjorie Scully, and the soloist was Kitty Crotty. Mr. Greene's son George W. "Billy" Greene began the service singing "Amazing Grace." Gina Marcello Johnson read a special poem; family friend William Thaden read the pilots prayer, "High Flight," and his daughter Terry Von-Thaden, attending from Illinois, offered words of reflection. Mr. Greene's longtime friend Walter Neff delivered the eulogy. At the conclusion of the funeral service, Mr. Greene's son Sheldon B. Greene read a poem he had written while traveling home for the funeral services, "Daddy, Are You There?" which concluded the funeral program.
Following the funeral services, family members and friends gathered back at the Greene residence for a reception, where Charles Patten did a fly-over in Mr. Greene's Cessna 180.

Anna L. Sherfesee
PORTSMOUTH - Anna Latham Sherfesee, 87, of 346 Pleasant St., died April 30, 2002.
The daughter of the late John Francis Latham and Marion Hett (Latham) Wendell, she was born Dec. 30, 1914, in Portsmouth. She graduated from St. Patrick's School in the Class of 1928, from Portsmouth High School in the Class of 1932 and from Simmons College in the Class of 1936. She received the Girl Scout Golden Eagle Award in 1933. She worked as a waitress at the Rye Beach Club in the 1930s and as a secretary at H.C. Wainwright Co. (Boston & New York), at the Strand Corp. (Boston & New York) in the 1940s, in the office of John Hunter, M.D., (Portsmouth) in the 1950s and 1960s, and at Edgewood Manor Nursing Home (Portsmouth) in the 1960s and 1970s. She worked evenings at a shop in the Wentworth by the Sea Hotel (New Castle) in the 1960s.
She married Louis Sherfesee Jr. in 1943 and was widowed in 1953.
She played clarinet with the Portsmouth High School Band, the N.H. State High School Symphony in 1930, the Boston Civic Symphony 1933-36, and the Portsmouth Seacoast Symphonette in the 1960s. She enjoyed bridge and was active in a weekly bridge club in Portsmouth for 30 years.
As a child she spent summers at Wallis Sands Beach, Rye, and maintained her love of New Hampshire beaches throughout her life.
She actively worked with community groups, i.e., Lady Isle School in the 1950s and 1960s, Cub Scout Pack 158 (as a den mother) and Boy Scout Troop 158 in the 1950s and 1960s, the Portsmouth Hospital Guild and Portsmouth Historical Society-John Paul Jones House. She was an avid fan of the Golden Eagle Drum and Bugle Corps and remained an active officer in the Portsmouth High School Class of 1932. She was a member of the Locke Family Association of Rye and the Sons and Daughters of Nathan Lord, South Berwick, Maine. Her religious faith was extremely important to her and she was a communicant at Immaculate Conception Church.
She is survived by two sons, retired Navy Cmdr. Louis Sherfesee III and his wife, Carol, and retired Air Force Lt. Col. John Sherfesee and his wife, Pam; two grandsons, Dr. Louis Sherfesee IV and David Michael Sherfesee; and a granddaughter, Christine Elizabeth Sherfesee.
SHERFESEE - Anna Latham Sherfesee, 87, of 346 Pleasant St., Portsmouth, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church, Summer Street, Portsmouth. Friends are invited. There will be no visiting hours. Marie-Louise Knopp
PORTSMOUTH - Marie-Louise Knopp, 74, of 579 Sagamore Ave., died April 29, 2002, at her home.
Born on Jan. 25, 1928, in New York City, she was a daughter of Robert R. and Veronica (Fisher) Martin. She was graduated from the Morristown-Beard School and Wellesley College. Later she earned a master's degree in library science from the Pratt Institute in New York and a master's degree in media science from the University of Fairfield in Connecticut. She worked for the board of education in Greenwich, Conn., and was a librarian for Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, Conn. She was a member of the American Library Association. She was also a member of Christ Church in Greenwich, Conn., where she served on the vestry. In 1996 she moved to the Portsmouth seacoast and became an active member of St. John's Episcopal Church.
An outdoor enthusiast, she enjoyed skiing and sailing and was a marine docent at the University of New Hampshire. She was also a member of the Portsmouth Dog Owners Group.
She is survived by her children, Sherry Simmeth and her husband, Harry, of Annandale, Va., Elizabeth Knopp of Saco, Maine, Katherine Knopp and her husband, John Barrengos, of Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., and William Knopp and his wife, Carolyn Lackey, of Wenham, Mass.; her two sisters, Vera Crawford of Dorset, Vt., and Leslie Martin of Norwalk, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
KNOPP - Marie-Louise Knopp, 74, of 579 Sagamore Ave., Portsmouth, died April 29, 2002, at her home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at St. John's Church, 101 Chapel St., Portsmouth, NH 03801. Sally C. Conary
ORLAND, Maine - Sally C. Conary, 63, died April 20, 2002, at an Ellsworth nursing facility.
She was born July 27, 1938, in Bucksport, the daughter of Clifton and Sybil (Clatworthy) Cunningham Sr.
Sally graduated from Bucksport High School, Class of 1956. She was a member of the Hancock County Genealogical Society. She was an avid reader, loved to do quilting and enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Conary Sr. of Orland; two sons, Robert Conary Jr. and his wife, MaryLou, of Chesapeake, Va., and Richard Conary of Hartford, Conn.; two grandchildren, Christina and Jonathan Conary of Chesapeake, Va.; one sister, Cynthia Herrick and her husband, Peter, of Melbourne, Fla.; stepmother, Edith Cunningham of Kittery; three aunts, Beth Liscomb of Bar Harbor, Julia Barker of Irving, Texas, and Barbara Cunningham of Bucksport; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lyman Conary and his wife, Jean, Raymond Conary and his wife, Maple, Kent Conary and his wife, Donna, and Kathy Conary, all of Orland, and Adelbert Conary of Hickory, N.C.; a special niece, Susan Wilbur of Orland; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.
She was predeceased by her father, Clifton Cunningham Sr.; her mother, Sybil Gerrish; her brother, Clifton Cunningham Jr.; and her stepfather, Stanley Gerrish.

Gertrude A. Lamont
PORTSMOUTH - Gertrude A. "Trudy" Lamont, 78, of 74 Wentworth Road, died April 29, 2002, at Portsmouth Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born on July 15, 1923, in San Diego, Calif., the daughter of the late Curtis and Velma (Hale) Hayford. She lived in Winchester, Mass., for many years before moving to New Hampshire.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wendell Irving, in 1961, and also by a son, Jeffrey Irving.
Family members include one daughter, Wendy Irving-Mills of Fort Collins, Colo.; and one grandson.

Arline R. Bartlett
PORTSMOUTH - Arline Ruth Bartlett, 85, died April 29, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
She was the wife of the late Ernest "Bud" Bartlett, who died in 1998.
Born in Sherborn, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Gladys (Moore) Newman.
She was a graduate of the Gould Academy, Sherborn, Mass. She had been a resident of Hopkinton, Mass., for 53 years prior to moving to New Castle for two years and then to the Edgewood Centre for four years.
She had worked for General Electric in Ashland, Mass., Fenwal Inc., of Ashland, Mass., Hopkinton High School, and the Hopkinton Public Library.
She enjoyed craft projects, especially homemade dolls and bunnies.
She and her husband were the first to have a wedding at the Hopkinton Congregational Church, July 27, 1940. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by everyone her life touched.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane E. Barrett and her husband, Dannie K. Barrett Sr., of Portsmouth; a son, Richard J. Bartlett and his wife Gwendolyn, of Hopkinton, Mass.; and grandson Dannie K. Barrett Jr. of Greenland.
BARTLETT - Arline R. Bartlett, 85, of Portsmouth, died April 29, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2002, at the Edgewood Centre, 928 South St., Portsmouth. Graveside services at the family lot in Clinton Street Cemetery in Hopkinton, Mass., will be held on a date to be announced. Dorothy R. Tremblay
PORTSMOUTH - Dorothy R. Tremblay, 86, of 6 Elwyn Road, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. She was born in Cambridge, Mass., on Feb. 8, 1916, a daughter of the late Robert and Annie (Trulligan) Mitchell.
She was educated at St. John's School in Cambridge, Mass., and had worked at the Polaroid Corp. in Cambridge, Mass.
She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, knitting, bird-watching and Boston terrier dogs.
Besides her husband of 25 years, Walter Tremblay, survivors include her son, Albert T. Beaudoin of Portsmouth; daughter-in-law Judith J. Beaudoin; grandsons Keith E. Beaudoin of Rockport, Mass., and Thomas W. Beaudoin and Matthew J. Beaudoin, both of Portsmouth; sister Alice M. Shea; and two brothers, Richard and John Mitchell.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Albert O. Beaudoin; a brother, Robert Mitchell; and a sister, Edith Mitchell.
TREMBLAY- Dorothy R. Tremblay, 86, of 6 Elwyn Road, Portsmouth, died Tuesday, April 30, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at St. James Church, 2075 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth. No visiting hours. Please omit flowers. Laura Elnora Brewer
ELIOT, Maine -Brewer, 60, of Tidy Road, formerly of Malden Mass., died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose, Mass.
Born on March 30, 1942, in Cambridge Mass., she was the daughter of Norman and Lucille (Howie) Phillips and attended local schools. She furthered her education at Northeastern University in Boston, Mass.
She was employed by TriAngle Inc. in the mental health field as a rehabilitation counselor - a profession and clients she truly loved. She was also employed at Great Bay Services in Newington, N.H., as a resident care counselor.
Active in the mental health field, she served on a number of committees related to the field and on the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Board of Rehabilitation. After residing in Malden for many years, she and her family moved to the Seacoast area, making their home in Eliot for the past 12 years.
She is survived by her loving husband of more than 43 years, Sheridan Brewer of Eliot; her daughters, Tanya and her husband, Frederick Miranda, of Eliot, and Danielle Brewer of Eliot; her sons, Anthony Brewer of Hampton, N.H., Kevin Brewer and his wife, Maria, of Kittery, and Troy Brewer of Everett, Mass.; a brother, Norman and his wife, Carrie Phillips, of Everett, Mass.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
