Daniel H. Chubbuck
EXETER - Daniel H. Chubbuck, 81, of Robin Hood Driver, died April 22, 2002 at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth after a period of failing health.
He was born May 11, 1920 in Lynn, Mass., the son of the late Horace and Sadie H. (Bowley) Chubbuck.
He had resided in Exeter for the past seven years. He was formerly of Salisbury, Mass., and Huntington, Ind.
Daniel was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II. After his service, he worked for International Harvester in Fort Wayne, Ind., and then at R&G Manufacturing, also known as "Amesbury Chair," where was the boss for 15 years.
He was a volunteer for the Serve Program in Exeter and was a member of the American Legion Post 70 of Seabrook.
In his spare time, he enjoyed blueberrying, mayflowering and fishing as he loved the outdoors.
He was predeceased by one son, Richard Chubbuck, who died Jan. 1, 1988.
He his survived by his wife, Elaine Chubbuck of Exeter; six daughters, Carol Manor of Fort Wayne, Ind,; Donna Denton of Yoder, Ind.; Linda Williams of Andrews, Ind.; Faye Roth of Ridgeville, Ind; Sally Wohlford and Jayne Larson, both of Huntington, Ind.; two sons, Henry Rogres Jr. and Randy Rogers, both of Seabrook; 27 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
CHUBBUCK - Daniel H. Chubbuck, 81, of Robin Hood Driver, died April 22, 2002 at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 26 at 1 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Dorothy E. Farwell
PORTSMOUTH - Dorothy E. "Dottie" Farwell, 84, of 117 Osprey Drive, died Thursday, April 11, 2002, at her home.
She was born May 11, 1917, in Manchester to the late Charles and Blanch (Beaudett) McCarthy.
Having attended Manchester and Nashua schools, she graduated from Nashua High School. She retired from Lockheed Martin, formerly Sanders Associates, in 1981.
She lived most of her life in Nashua, Hampton and Portsmouth. In keeping with her love of life and her generous nature, she performed numerous years of volunteer work and established long and meaningful relationships with her co-volunteers and associates.
While living in Hampton, she was a volunteer at the Winnacunnet High School Library for several years. She belonged to the Girl Scout Council, Adult CYO, and Catholic Daughters of America. She volunteered in the offices of Mayors Eileen Foley and Evelyn Sirrell as well as the Portsmouth Police Department. She devoted 12 years of volunteer work to the Salvation Army soup kitchen and was a director and hostess at the Wentworth Gardner House. She especially enjoyed her work with the Portsmouth Children's Museum and the United Way.
She was the wife of the late Francis E. Farwell, who died in 1981, and was also predeceased by a son, Donald C. Farwell, who died in 1986, as well as by two brothers, Robert and Donald McCarthy.
She is survived by one daughter, Frances Dobrowolski, of Portsmouth; one brother, Walter F. McCarthy of Manchester; five grandchildren, Melissa Fredericks, Michael Dobrowolski, Thomas Dobrowolski, Jessica Farwell and Mathew Farwell; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Joshua Fredericks.
FARWELL - Dorothy E. Farwell, 84, of 117 Osprey Drive, Portsmouth, died April 11, 2002. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2002, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Woodbury Avenue, Portsmouth. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. John A. Twomey
SCITUATE, Mass. - John A. Twomey, 78, of 38 Greenfield Lane, died after a sudden finding of pancreatic cancer. Born in Rye, N.H., in 1924, he was the son of John J. and Julia B. (Malloy) Twomey.
He attended Portsmouth schools, graduating with the Class of 1942, and graduated from Boston University in 1948. He was commissioned a first lieutenant and served as pilot in the Naval Air Corps during World War II. He had a long career as a machinery salesman, much of the time with Simonds Saw and Steel.
In his retirement he was active with the Unitarian Church, both in Scituate and at Star Island. He enjoyed golf, bird carving and travel, including 45 Elderhostels.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Yvonne. Other survivors include his sister, Mary Robb of Portsmouth, N.H.; and five nieces and nephews, James Cerny of Madbury, N.H., Julie Wiley of San Francisco, Calif., Catherine Jerszyk of Goffstown, N.H., Thomas Robb of Portsmouth, N.H., and Julia Tiebout of Berwick, Maine.
TWOMEY - John A. Twomey, 78, of Scituate, Mass., died after a sudden finding of pancreatic cancer. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on May 5, 2002, at the Unitarian Church in Scituate. Omit flowers. Remembrances may be made to the Scituate Animal Shelter.
Immanuel Mirkin
HAVERHILL, Mass. - Immanuel Mirkin, 92, of Haverhill, Mass., died Sunday, April 2 at Merrimack Valley Hospital.
He was born in Israel on July 23, 1909, the son of the late Shlomo and Rikleh (Winikoff) Mirkin.
Mr. Mirkin was educated in Israel and graduated high school there. He came to the United States in 1928, residing in Newark, N.J.
While in Newark, he earned his bachelor of science degree from the Newark Institute of Technology. He later earned his master's degree from New York University in economy and business administration.
For over 30 years, he was employed as an electrical engineer for the American Electric Power Corporation, retiring in 1975.
Shortly after his retirement, he moved to Haverhill. While in Haverill, he was an active member of Temple Emanu-El, the B'nai B'Rith, and its brotherhood.
Mr. Mirkin, along with his wife of 67 years, Marion (Kaplan) Mirkin, was particularly involved and concerned with the education of both children and adults.
His surviviorshis wife, a daughter, Ilana and her husband Dr. Bernard Loewenthal of Stratham, N.H.; a sister, Malka Traister of Israel; a granddaughter, Bonnie Beth and her husband Peter, a great-grandson, Mark Steven; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday at Temple Emanu-El, 514 Main St. Haverhill with the burial in Children of Israel Cemetery.

GREENE - George William Greene, 66, of 2 Tower Road, Kittery Point, Maine, died peacefully at his residence on Sunday morning, April 21, 2002. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2002, at the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, 24 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton. Anna A. Hein
WILMINGTON, Mass. - Anna A. Hein, 90, of Long Meadow Place, formerly of 277 Water St., Exeter, N.H., died on Tuesday, April 23, 2002, at Woodbriar of Wilmington.
She was born in Suffern, N.Y., Jan. 21, 1912, the daughter of the late William A. and Minnie (Wanamaker) Forshay.
Mrs. Hein was a graduate of Hackensack Nursing School and was a registered nurse working for Dr. A. Anderson, a surgeon in Hackensack, N.J.
She lived in New York for most of her life, moving to Exeter in 1990, and to Burlington, Mass., in 1998.
She was the wife of the late Leonard C. Hein, who died in 1996.
She is survived by two sons, Donald H. Hein and his wife, Linda, of Woburn, and William L. Hein and his wife, Johanna, of Antrim, N.H.; three grandchildren, Jennifer L. Hein of Norfolk, Va., Meredith A. Hein and Mark W. Hein, both of Arlington, Mass.
HEIN - Anna A. Hein of Wilmington, Mass., formerly of 277 Water St., Exeter, died April 23, 2002. Services will be held at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 26, 2002. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Wayne H. Phillips
ELIOT, Maine - Wayne H. Phillips, 78, of 55 Main St., died April 22, 2002, at his home, after a period of failing health.
Born in Bangor on June 1, 1923, he was a son of Harry D. and Lena (Lane) Phillips. He attended local schools. He served his country as a member of the United States Navy in World War II.
He supported the Salvation Army Church in Portsmouth, N.H., and was a member of St. John Masonic Lodge #1 AF & AM of Portsmouth, N.H.
He was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a blueprint machine operator for 30 years until his retirement in 1981. He was also employed for many years as a security guard by MBI Security at Kidder Press and Liberty Mutual. He and his wife lived in Kittery for many years and in Portsmouth, N.H., before making their home in Eliot.
His primary focus in life was his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Jeanette (Tapley) Phillips, and they would have celebrated their anniversary in May; his daughters, Cheryl A. Bowden and her husband, Steve, of Eliot, and Jeanna Morse of Kittery; two sons, Ralph R. Phillips of Bangor and Dennis W. Phillips of Eliot; a sister, E. Madeline Smith of Bangor; a brother, Melvin Phillips of Nevada; and three grandchildren, whom he adored, Todd S. Bowden and his wife, Linda, Randy W. Morse, and Toby P. Bowden; as well as many other supportive members of his family, including his many nieces and nephews.
PHILLIPS - Wayne H. Phillips, 78, of 55 Main St., Eliot, Maine, died April 22, 2002, at his home after a period of failing health. Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the J.S. Pauline P. Morrow
KITTERY - Pauline Putnam Morrow, 91, formerly of Rogers Road, died April 21, 2002, at Sentry Hill in York Harbor.
Born in York, Maine, on Feb. 22, 1911, she was a daughter of William and Lucy (Downs) Putnam. She grew up and attended schools in York, graduating from York High School.
She was a clerk at French Department Store in Portsmouth, N.H., in the 1930s and drove for Navy personnel during World War II at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The most enjoyable part of her working career was spent as a school bus driver in Kittery for over 35 years, retiring in the early 1970s. She dearly loved the children she worked with and the job, which she gave so many years to. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and enjoyed watching television sports, especially baseball.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Putnam Miller Twaddell, of Virginia; two brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; her niece Judith P. Jackson of Kittery; and many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Matthew Morrow, in 1968; and two brothers, William Pepperell Putnam and Raymond Putnam.
MORROW - Pauline Putnam Morrow, 91, formerly of Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine, died April 21, 2002, at Sentry Hill in York Harbor, Maine. YORK, Maine - Graveside services for Mrs. Oraville M. Piché, 87, of North Street, and formerly of Kittery, were held on Tuesday from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, N.H., with services at the Orchard Grove Cemetery, in Kittery. The Rev. Gordon Allen, officiated. Bagpiper was Mark Gowdy.
George William Greene
KITTERY POINT, Maine - George William Greene, 66, of 2 Tower Road, died peacefully at his residence Sunday morning, April 21, 2002, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Milo, Maine, Aug. 27, 1935, the son of the late Charles C. and Alyce A. (Tumosa) Greene. Educated in the local schools, he entered the U.S. Army in October 1954, during the Korean Conflict, and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. He served as a cross-country ski trooper and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal at discharge in September 1956.
Mr. Greene graduated from Embry Riddle in Florida, Class of 1958, as an airline mechanic. Following his graduation, he attended flight school at Gunn Airfield in Georgia, later becoming a flight instructor.
He went to work with the onetime Eastern Airlines in October 1961, a career that extended nearly 30 years. As a check airman, he made captain in July of 1970 and later retired in October 1989. In 1990, he went to work with the U.S. Postal Service as an alternate rural letter carrier in South Berwick. This part-time job was something he greatly enjoyed. George owned and operated Greene's Air Service in Dover-Foxcroft, a seaplane air service flying charter flights in and out of desolate Maine.
A resident of Kittery Point since 1988, he had traveled extensively with the airlines, settling in the Seacoast area in the early 1970s. He especially loved animals, was an avid outdoorsman who loved cross-country skiing, canoeing, camping and most especially his Cessna 180.
Mr. Greene was a member of the retired Eastern Airlines Pilots Association, the Civil Air Patrol, the Maine Aviation Historical Society, the Sea Plane Pilots Association, the Cessna Pilots Association, the Airline Pilots Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Seacoast Indoor Tennis Club and the Gerrish Island Association.
He is survived by his wife Barbara J. "Bobbie" (Clawges) Greene, whom he married on Valentine's Day 1981, of Kittery Point; three children, Sheldon B. Greene and his wife, Lynetta, of Abilene, Texas, George W. Greene Jr. and his wife, Sheri, of Nashville, Tenn., and Julie E. Greene of Lawrence, Mass.; his stepchildren, Kristen E. (Mrs. Peter) Gibb of Rutland, Vt., and R. Keith Johnson and his wife, Gina, of York; eight grandchildren, Marissa Greene, Christopher Greene, Stephen Greene, Kelsey Gibb, Allyson Johnson, Carly Johnson, Victoria Greene and Peter Gibb; his sisters, Sylvia (Mrs. Henry) Pearson of Old Towne, Maine, and Elizabeth Ellis of Sebec, Maine; and his best friend, Brandy, his yellow lab.

Norman J. Macdonald
YORK, Maine - Norman J. Macdonald, 77, of York, died in York Hospital on Sunday, April 21, 2002, after a long battle with cancer, a result of radiation exposure.
Mr. Macdonald was born in Boston on Aug. 15, 1924, the son of Malcolm J. and Mabelle (Warner) Macdonald. He graduated from Chevy Chase (Md.) High School. He graduated from CalTech with a B.S. in science and M.S. in meteorology, and did extended graduate work at MIT.
Mr. Macdonald served in the U.S. Navy on active duty and in the reserves from 1942 to 1963. In 1952 he was part of the team at Eniwetok, the detonation of the first hydrogen bomb, for which he received congressional recognition.
Mr. Macdonald did extensive research at High Altitude Observatory, University of Colorado, Air Force Cambridge Research Laboratories, and 10 years at the meteorology department at MIT. He was the meteorologist on WBZ-TV from 1960 to 1977, at which time he embarked on his radio career with Weather Services and then with AccuWeather. While at AccuWeather, he began doing forensic meteorology and continued this until recently.
After retiring, Mr. Macdonald did extensive investigations of the global warming hypothesis. He and his research associate presented their research to the United Nations in 1993 and Mr. Macdonald presented the same to a U.S. congressional committee. Over his professional career he had three dozen formal publications in scientific journals.
Norman and his wife, Carol, moved to York in 1992. Norman wrote weather-related articles for The York Weekly and Foster's Daily Democrat.
As an active member of the First Parish Church, he served on the Diaconate, Men's Fellowship and was the master of ceremonies for the annual "Christmas in the Village" concert. He was an active member of the Lions Club and was presented the prestigious Melvin Jones award. He was a mentor for several young people in the York school system and served the Little League in York.
Norman leaves his wife, Carol (Schreiber, Gurner); two sons, Collin of Hawaii, and Brian and his wife, Brenda, of Dracut, Mass.; two daughters, Christina of Clifton, Va., and Lauren Piechowicz and her husband, Edward, of Granville, Ohio; a stepson, Joel Gurner of Fort Myers, Fla.; two stepdaughters, Hilary Steinberg of Boalsburg, Pa., and Sarah Gurner of South Berwick; and nine grandchildren.
In the spirit of scientific truth, his body was donated to science. A memorial service will be held at the First Parish Church, York Street, on Sunday, April 28, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Parish Church or to the Lions Club of York.
Thomas C. Smith
RAYMOND - Funeral services for Thomas C. Smith, 79, of 91 Harriman Hill Road, were held on Tuesday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth. The Rev. Wesley Burwell, of Seacoast Hospice, officiated. Words of remembrance were given by Mr. Smith's daughter, Tammy J. Martel.
The American flag was presented to Mr. Smith's widow, May (Palm) Smith.
Paulette M. Gibely
SEABROOK - Funeral services were held Monday morning, April 22, 2002, at the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, 24 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton, for Paulette M. Gibely, 54, of 13 Dixon Way, who died at her residence on Wednesday, April 17, 2002.
The Rev. Maurice D. Lavigne of St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach, conducted the funeral service at the funeral home. The organist was Marjorie Scully, and the soloist was Kitty Crotty. The eulogy was offered at the funeral home by Mrs. Gibely's stepdaughter, Estelle (Mrs. Thomas) Dill. A special poem written by Roni-Jean Gibely was read at the graveside immediately following committal prayers.
Interment in the family lot in Central Cemetery, Beverly, Mass., followed the funeral service, with the Rev. John Beunta of St. John the Evangelist Church in Beverly, Mass., conducting the committal prayers. Pallbearers were Mrs. Gibely's sons-in-law, Thomas Dill and Daren Meuse, and family friend Robert Welch. Arrangements were by the Robert K. Gray Jr. Funeral Home, 24 Winnacunnet Road, Hampton, NH 03842.
Jeremy S. Coleman
SOMERSWORTH - Well attended funeral services for Jeremy Scott Coleman, 25, of Indigo Hill Road, were held on Monday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth. The Rev. Richard Racicot, pastor of the Faith Christian Center in Limerick, Maine, officiated. Words of remembrance were given by Brian Blanchette and David Turner.
In attendance were delegations of representatives from the 157th Air Refueling Wing of the N.H. Air National Guard at Pease; and from Pic'n Pay.
Burial was in Sagamore Cemetery, Portsmouth, with committal services by Pastor Racicot.
Bearers were Larry Kinch, Jerod Blanchette, Tommy Coleman, Jeff Parmley, Robert Coleman, Shane Blanchette, J.R. Grondin and David Turner.
Scott W. McDonald
HAMPTON - The funeral for Scott W. McDonald, 36, of 32 Arrowbrook Road, Dover, who died April 17, 2002, was held Monday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. Services were conducted in the Bethany Church, Greenland. Dave Gish was the officiating pastor. The pianist was Billy Francis, and the soloist was Justin Yim. Words of remembrance were offered by the Rev. Roy Swanson, former pastor of the Durham Evangelical Church, and by several family members. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by Pastor Gish. Matthew Newton was the bagpiper. Pallbearers were Michael Oxner, Robert Watt, Curtis Baker, Douglas Baker, David Elliot and John Moriarty.
Charlotte I. Whittemore
NORTH HAMPTON - A memorial service for Charlotte Irene Stockbridge Whittemore, 83, of 46 South Road, who died April 11, 2002, was held Saturday, April 20, 2002, at the Stockbridge Funeral Home in Exeter. The Rev. Harold V. Lloyd, nephew of Mrs. Whittemore, officiated. Jean Goss was organist, and Holly Ann Pierce was soloist. Readings were offered by Kristen H. Spaulding, Colin D.L. Spaulding and Howard D. Lovering. Words of remembrance were offered by several family members.
Ann G. Broga
NEWMARKET - Ann G. Broga, 74, of Grant Road, died April 25, 2002, at The Pine of Newmarket, where she had recently resided.
Born July 26, 1927, in Westfield, Mass., the daughter of Wells and Olive (Starkweather) Greenwood, she lived most of her life in Westfield and, upon retiring, moved to Marco Island, Fla.
She attended Syracuse University and American International College.
She was operations manager at the Amherst campus of the University of Massachusetts, and for several years she was bookstore manager at Westfield State College.
She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Westfield and also the United Church of Marco Island.
While in Westfield, she was a member and past president of the Women's Club and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. At Marco Island she was chairwoman of the hospital auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Frederick D. Broga of Newmarket; two sons, Dean Broga and his wife Sheryl of Richmond, Va., and Kirk Broga of Greenfield, Mass.; a daughter, Kim Zito and her husband Randall of Newmarket; four grandchildren, Karla Putney and her husband Phil of Exeter, Lt. Jonathan Zito and his wife Kaitlin of Columbus, Miss., and Sarah Broga and Clayton Broga, both of Richmond, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Jennifer Putney and Ryan Putney, both of Exeter.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Christopher Zito.
