Brogan John McDowell
TEMECULA, Calif. - Brogan John McDowell, the youngest son of Tim and Katie (Warren) McDowell of Temecula, Calif., died Thursday, April 27, 2000 after an accident in his family's backyard swimming pool.
Brogan, who would have been two years old in June, is survived by his parents, his older brothers Ryan, Taylor, Myles, Morgan, and Kody, his grandmothers Frieda McDowell of Pennsylvania and Willi Warren of Murrieta, Calif. and North Conway, and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins from all over the country. Brogan's life was celebrated in two separate ceremonies, one in his family's front yard for more than 25 small children who were his neighbors and playmates, and another (at the United Methodist Church in Murrieta) on May 1 for his extended family and friends.
The church ceremony was co-preached by Brogan's uncle, the Reverend Dan McDowell. The family donated Brogan's eyes, heart valves, and skin tissue to the San Diego Children's Hospital organ-donor program, and in lieu of flowers would be grateful for donations in honor of Brogan sent to People Helping People, c/o Paradise Chevrolet, 26845 Ynez Street, Temecula, CA 92591, attn: Denny Mighell. David R. "Bump" Phinney
CONWAY - David R. "Bump" Phinney, 76, of Conway, died May 5, 2000, at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway following an automobile accident.
Born in Conway, the son of Benjamin and Ora (Sennett) Phinney, he was a lifelong resident of Conway.
Mr. Phinney had worked for the former F.W. Mears Heel Company in Conway. In the 1940s and 1950s, he had been a lifeguard during the winter months in Florida and he had worked for the Tuberculosis Sanitarium in Fairfield, Maine. He also worked for the Conway Highway Department for many years before retiring as assistant foreman.
The family includes a son, Benjamin D. Phinney, of Concord; a brother, Raymond L. Phinney, of Conway; a sister, Dorothy McKinley, of Salem, Ohio; a half-brother, Carroll Phinney, of Payton, Arizona; several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews and a great grand nephew, Seth H. Bailey.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Conway United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dr. Wesley E. Palmer, pastor, officiating. Visiting hours will be today, Monday, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Furber and White Funeral Home in North Conway.
Marilyn Virginia (Spiers) Brown
EFFINGHAM - Marilyn Virginia (Spiers) Brown, 71, Of Simon Hill Road, Effingham died May 4, 2000 at Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro. she was born in Milton, Mass. the daughter of John W. and Emma (Van Wart) Spiers and lived in Lexington, Mass. for many years before moving to Etfingham in Juiy 1995.
Marilyn presided as the school secretary for 30 years at Harrington Elementary School, Lexington, Mass. Upon her retirement to Effingham she participated in many community activities. Her quiet courage, sense of fairness and open mind will be sorelv missed.
she is survived by her beloved husband, George W. Brown, Jr.,
Effingham; son, G. Steven Brown, Hyde Park, Mass. and daughter, Lois P. Cozzi, Leesburg, Va; grandsons, George R. Cozzi III, Nashua, NH and Steven R. Cozzi, Leesburg, Va.
Calling hours will be Saturday, May 6, 2000, 6 to 8 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home, Route 28, Wolfeboro. A prayer service will be held at the end of visitation.

Elizabeth (Hidden) Sutherland
TAMWORTH - Elizabeth (Hidden) Sutherland, 88, of Great Hill Road, died May 4, 2000 at the Eliot Hospital in Manchester, N.H. She was a native of Tamworth the daughter of the Late S. Harold and Helen (Bassen) Hidden of Tamworth and had lived in North Hampton and Manchester for several years. She was a graduate of Danvers High School, Danvers Mass and the Keene Normal School where she received an Bachelor of Education degree. She taught as an elementary education teacher in Chesterfield before moving back to Tamworth in 1952. She later moved to West Hampton where she taught until 1956 when she moved to Manchester where she taught in the school system for 21 years, retiring back to Tamworth in 1978.
She was the widow of the late Donald M. Sutherland. Mrs. Sutherland was a member of the Tamworth Congregational Church as well as the Tamworth Historical Society. and numerous other clubs and organizations.
Mrs. Sutherland loved the outdoors, annually climbing Mount Chocorua until the age of 81. She also played the piano for square dances for many years.
She is survived by her children Donald H Sutherland of Nashua; Edward H Sutherland of Worcester, Mass.; James O. Sutherland, Goffstown and Dorothy Sutherland Kelley of Amherst. She has 16 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, two sisters, Kathleen Louise Bourgault of Belmont and Frances Roberts, Springfield, Vt. and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours for Mrs. Sutherland will be Sat. 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee. A funeral service will be Sunday 3 p.m. at the Tamworth Congregational Church, Tamworth. Rev. Richard Russell Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Ordination Rock Cemetery, Tamworth.

Gladys (Watson) Rich
OSSIPEE - Gladys (Watson) Rich, 80, of Route 16, Ossipee, died Thursday morning May 4, at Huggins Hospital in Wolfeboro.
Born in Orono, Maine the daughter of the late C. W. and Myra (Morrisette) Watson.
She graduated from West High School in Manchester and attended Plymouth Teachers College. Serving in the United States Navy she was stationed in San Francisco.
After the service she and her husband settled in Marshfield, Mass. where she worked for the town of Marshfield for over 20 years as a clerk for the town clerk and treasurers office, secretary to the head of D.P.W. was also elected to and chaired the planning board before retiring living there for 30 years before moving to Ossipee in 1976.
She is survived by her husband Albion "Bud" Rich of Ossipee, a sister Lois Parmenter of Merrimack and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no services. The Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Marion (Williams) Sargent
FREEDOM - Marion (Williams) Sargent, 66, of Swett's Hill Road, died May 3, 2000, at Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro.
A native and lifelong resident of Freedom, she was born Sept. 8, 1933, the daughter of Raymond and Hazel (Brown) Williams.
Her family includes her husband of 52 years, Merton H. Sargent, Freedom; a son, Merton H. Sargent Jr., Freedom; two sisters, Violet Libby, Porter, Maine, and Verna Libby, Center Ossipee; two brothers, Raymond Williams Jr., Freedom, and Harold Libby, Waterboro, Maine; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Thursday, May 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home, 50 Moultonville Road, Center Ossipee. The funeral service will be Friday, May 5, at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Freedom, with the Rev. Robert Cedar officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Freedom.
Phyllis Greene Fortier
Brownfield - Phyllis Greene Fortier, 83 years of age, of Brownfield, died Monday, Nov. 26, at the Bridgton Health Care Center.
She was born in South Tamworth on June 25, 1918, a daughter of Frank and Viola Vittum Greene. She and her brothers, Walter and Clyde, were doubly blessed as they were brought up by grandparents Otis and Bertha Vittum, uncle and aunt Alfred and Mildred Vittum, and a great-grandmother, Mary Ann Magoon, as well as parents, all living in the large family farmhouse.
She graduated from Tamworth High School and also the Concord Business College in Concord.
She and Carroll W. Fortier of Chocorua were married for 52 years. Their wedding on Sept. 19, 1937, was at her grandparents' home.
She was the personal secretary to Frank E. and Robert H. Kennett of Conway for several years.
In 1954, she and her husband moved to Whittier, Calif., where she became executive secretary at C.F. Braun and Co. Engineering in Alhambra, Calif., for 20 years. She worked for the school board of education and district superintendent of schools of Fullerton Elementary School District, retiring in 1980. After retiring, she worked as substitute secretary for Alhambra School District until 1988.
Her husband died in 1989, at which time she spent some time in the high desert in Phelan, Calif., with her brother, Clyde F. Greene. In 1995, she moved to Brownfield to be with her brother, Walter A. Greene.
Her hobbies were growing beautiful roses, embroidering all types of home linens, and being actively involved with the St. Matthias Episcopal Church in Whittier.
She is survived by her two brothers, Walter A. Greene of Brownfield, and Clyde F. Greene of Salt Lake City, Utah; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no services at this time. Burial will be at the Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
Arrangements are by the York Funeral Chapel of Cornish, Maine.
Loretta Eade McKinney, 92, of Leelynn Circle, Londonderry, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at the Ridgewood Center, Bedford, following a short illness.
She was born on Aug. 27, 1909, in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of the late James C. and Anna J. (Sullivan) Eade.
Before her marriage, she was a shoe designer and a Powers model in Boston, Mass. She was a resident of Londonderry since 1944, formerly living in Needham, Mass.
She was very active in civic affairs. She was a charter member of the Londonderry Chamber of Commerce, a founder of the original Londonderry Taxpayers Association, past president of the Londonderry Historical Society, a secretary of the New Hampshire Historical Association, past president of the #7 School and the Central School's PTAs, a founding member of the Londonderry Athletic and Civic Association, an instructor in the Red Cross swim program, a 4-H leader, a member of the Manchester Memorial Booster Club, and a Londonderry correspondent to the Derry Star.
She enjoyed politics, Red Sox baseball, reading and corresponding with family and the many friends she and her husband had made during their travels in the winter months. She loved gardening, bird watching and entertaining. She was an excellent cook, often providing for others in time of need.
She is survived by two daughters, Betsy McKinney, of Londonderry; Deana McKinney McKee, of Bartlett; and one grandson Matthew Howard, of Bartlett and Durham. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Bernard G. McKinney in 1989, and by one sister, Arlene Eade Qualters in 1981.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Jude's Parish, 435 Mammoth Road, Londonderry. Burial will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Londonderry.
Friends may call this evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Road, Londonderry.

Audrey B. Purinton
Audrey B. Purinton, 69, of Lovell, Maine, died Thursday Nov. 22, 2001. She was born in Portland, the daughter of Lester and Stella McLaughlin Bragg, grew up in West Falmouth, Maine, and was educated in Falmouth schools.
Audrey lived in Connecticut for a short time and has lived in Lovell since 1958. Audrey was a homemaker and enjoyed knitting, reading and was very active with the Fryeburg-Lovell VFW Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Cliff Purinton of Lovell; two sons, Guy Purinton and John Purinton, both of Sweden, Maine; two daughters, Linda Jegreus and Cindy Tripp, both of Sweden; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
There will be no visiting hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
