Ronald C. Ware
MANCHESTER - Ronald C. "Doc" Ware, 52, died Dec. 5, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center after a brief illness.
He was born in Nashua on Sept. 28, 1949, a son of Gertrude "Trudy" (Soucy) Ware and the late George C. Ware.
He served as a combat medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and held membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #483 in Nashua and the Disabled American Veterans Post #1 in Manchester.
He was a volunteer manager with Helping Hands and the Helping Hands Food Pantry for the past 10 years.
Members of his family include his mother; one son, Patrick Ware Smith of Boston, Mass.; two sisters, Marilyn Bean of Newington and Mrs. William (Janet) Eaton of Tilton; three brothers, Richard Ware of Nashua, David Farrell of Roseburg, Ore., and Victor Paul of Manchester; his companion, Kay Sisk of Concord; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
WARE - Ronald C. "Doc" Ware, 52, of Manchester, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001. There are no calling hours. Graveside military services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen. Benjamin Brewster
MARION, Mass. - Benjamin Brewster, 49, died Dec. 5, 2001, at Tobey Hospital after a 3-year 7-month battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).
He was the husband of Sylvia F. (Fallow) Brewster and a son of the late Rev. William and Elizabeth (Bosley) Brewster.
He was born in Austin, Texas, and was raised in Kittery Point, Maine, where he and his family relocated when he was 2 years old. He attended the Fay School, where he received the Founders' Medal and continued his studies at Kent School, from which he graduated in 1971. He graduated from Trinity College, Class of 1975.
During the eight years of high school and college, he enjoyed rowing at high levels of competition, including the Henley Regatta. At Trinity College, he was awarded the Hartford Barge Club Award for Most Spirited Rower.
After graduating from college, he moved with his family to Maine, where he managed a commercial printing company for five years and worked in financial services for 15 years.
During these years, he and his family lived in Kittery Point, Kennebunk and Portland. In 1995, he became the business manager of St. Stephen's Episcopal School, a private secondary school in Austin, Texas, which was founded by his father in 1950. He considered his position at the school the most fulfilling of his career.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Alexander Y. Brewster and Elliot J. Brewster, both of Marion; a daughter, Stephanie H. Brewster of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, the Rev. William Brewster of Boardsman, Ohio, and Dr. Frederick B. Brewster of Silver Spring, Md.; two sisters, Hildegarde B. Bird of Cundy's Harbor, Maine, and Stella B. Hall of Kittery Point, Maine; and 15 nieces and nephews.
He was a brother of the late Peter B. Brewster.
BREWSTER - Benjamin Brewster, 49, of Marion, Mass., brother of Stella B. Hall, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday in St. Gabriel's Episcopal Church, 124 Front St., Marion. Visiting hours are omitted. Katrina Kelsen
RYE - Katrina (Petersen) Kelsen, 97, a longtime resident of 14 Parsons Road, died peacefully at her daughter's home in Hampton on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001.
Born on Sept. 30, 1904, in Thorup, Denmark, she came to America in 1927, to Massachusetts. She moved to Rye 35 years ago and was the widow of Andrew Kelsen, who died in 1989.
She was a member of the Rye Congregational Church and was a talented seamstress.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Albert Ross of Hampton; her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Janet Kelsen of Kenosha, Wis.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Private services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Seacoast Visiting Nurses Association of North Hampton.
Lee E. Dodge
EXETER - Lee E. Dodge, 58, of Old Town Farm Road, died Dec. 6, 2001, at the Exeter Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Brentwood on Dec. 18, 1942, son of the late Priscilla Edwards.
He served four years in the U.S. Army, stationed in Okinawa. He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
He is survived by three brothers, Richard Edwards of Exeter, Kendall Edwards of Lowell, Mass., and Ralph Edwards of San Leandro, Calif.; two aunts, Mary J. Brown and Emily Foote, both of Exeter; one uncle, Albert Dodge of Epping; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
DODGE - Lee E. Dodge, 58, of Exeter, died Dec. 6, 2001. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Bruce Michaud, Carl Rodell, John Linville, Al Blaine, Paul Hurteau and William Hurteau. Ralph Ells
YORK, Maine - Ralph "Bud" Ells, 85, died Dec. 4, 2001, at Harbor Home in York after a long illness.
He was born in Everett, Mass., to Harry and Janie (Lock) Ells and was a graduate of Everett High School. He served as a gunner's mate 1st class in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He also had lived in Medford, Mass.
He worked as a color maker for Touraine Paints for more than 40 years. He had resided in West Peabody, Mass., before moving to York in 1983.
He was a communicant of St. Christopher-by-the-Sea Church. For 60 years he was the devoted husband of Flora (Morin) Ells; he was the beloved father of Thomas Ells and his wife, Jeanne, of Salisbury, Mass., Alona Saladino and her husband, Frank, of Palm Bay, Fla., Diane Ells and her fiancé, Thomas Melba, of Delray Beach, Fla., and Richard Ells and his wife, Pamela, of York, Maine; five grandchildren, Laurie Bishop, Sheri Blakeney, Lisa Ells, William Singersen and Christy Sheppard; three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Bishop and Kendyl Blakeney; a sister, Janie Sletterink of Manomet, Mass.; and a brother, Elliott Ells of Manhattan Beach, Calif.
Rita M. French
BRENTWOOD - Rita M. French, 81, formerly of Old Nottingham Road, Epping, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home.
She was born Jan. 28, 1920, in Somerville, Mass., a daughter of the late Timothy T. and Beatrice M. (Smith) Donovan.
She lived in Arlington, Mass., for many years and was a graduate of Arlington High School. She moved to Epping in 1969. She was an administrative assistant for many years at the Epping Elementary School.
She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a member of the Garden Club in Epping. She also volunteered at the Rockingham County Nursing Home and the Exeter Hospital.
Family members include five sons, John E. French Jr. of Pierre, S.D., James R. French of Mason, David R. French of Grafton, Mass., Dennis J. French of Candia, and Steven N. French of Epping; eight grandchildren; and one sister, M. Madeline Donovan of Manchester.
FRENCH - Rita M. French, formerly of Old Nottingham Road, Epping, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. Joseph Church, Route 27, Epping. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Epping. John W. Phipps Jr.
SEABROOK - John W. "Jay" Phipps Jr., 64, of 115 Cimarron Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001.
He was born in Fancy Farm, Ky., on July 12, 1937, a son of the late John W. and Beulah (Hobbs) Phipps.
He attended Fancy Farm schools. He later received a degree in electronics.
Moving to Seabrook many years ago, he worked at the former Dexter Hysol Company as a production technician in Seabrook for many years. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed golf and bowling.
He was a U.S. veteran, serving in the Air Force.
He was the husband of Renée Phipps for 17 years.
In addition to his wife, family members include two sons, Jay T. Phipps of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Gerard Phipps of Kentucky; two daughters, Donna Seymour of Spokane, Wash., and Cathy Phipps of Kentucky; five grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Phipps of Chicago, Ill.; three sisters, Mary Elsie Nagel of Chicago, Ill., Georgia Yuder of Chicago, Ill., and Sr. Lucille Phipps, S.C.N., of Louisville, Ky.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves many close friends.

Lizbeth L. Kingsbury
NORTH HAMPTON – The funeral for Lizbeth L. Kingsbury, 40, of 3 Appledore Ave., was held Sunday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. Services were conducted in the Greenland Community Congregational Church. The Rev. Douglas Carter, pastor officiated. Ida Morang was organist. Ms. Kingsbury's brother, Edward A. Kingsbury, offered words of remembrance. Burial followed in the Center Cemetery with the committal service conducted by Rev. Carter. Pallbearers were Paul Doring, Jason Nichols, Josh Nichols, Roland Fowler, Rick Gibbons and Peter Corbett.
Albert C. Edwards
SEABROOK – The funeral for Albert C. Edwards, 67, of 67 Dows Lane, who died November 30, 2001, was held Wednesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton. The Rev. John MacKenzie, associate pastor at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Parish, Hampton officiated. Burial followed in the Hillside Cemetery with the committal service conducted by Father MacKenzie. Pallbearers were Wayne Bowden, William Edwards, Albert Edwards, Jr., Robert Edwards, John Edwards and Vic Ingram.
Harry R. Hanlon
RYE - Harry R. 'Hardluck' Hanlon, 86, of 83 Alehson St., Rye, died on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at Sunbridge Nursing Home in Portsmouth after a long illness.
Born in Windham, Maine, Dec. 15, 1914, he was the son of John and Henrietta (Woodman) Hanlon.
He was employed as an ironworker for 50 years with Union Local #474, retiring from the Seabrook Power Plant.
He was a longtime member of the Portsmouth Country Club and the Portsmouth Lodge of Elks. He was also an avid horse- and dog-racing fan.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Catherine (O'Brien) Hanlon, four daughters, Elizabeth Hanlon Keniston of Stratham, Kathryn Hanlon and Nancy Hanlon both of Rye, and Judy Hanlon of Framingham, Mass.; two grandchildren Stefan Keniston of Rye, and Katherine Keniston of Burlington, Vt.; one brother, Francis A. Hanlon of Portsmouth and a sister, Irene Hanlon of Rye; and several nieces and nephews.
HANLON - Harry 'Hardluck' Hanlon, 86, of Rye, died Dec. 6, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Mary P. Ryan
HAMPTON – The funeral for Mary P. Ryan, 80, of 67 Hampton Meadows, who died November 29, 2001, was held Monday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. George E. Ham, pastor was the celebrant. Jean Goss was organist and Dennis Jacobs was soloist, cantor and directed the men's choir. Altar servers were members of the Holy Name Society. The Catholic Women's Club formed an honor guard. After cremation, burial will be in the Belmont Cemetery, Belmont, Mass. Pallbearers were John J. Ryan, David J. Babine, Brian P. Casey, Daniel C. Babine, Hugh J. Casey and David W. Babine.
George E. Heroux
PORTSMOUTH - George E. Heroux, 85, of 3205 Lafayette Road, No. 313, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at the Edgewood Centre after a long illness.
Born April 8, 1916, in Portsmouth, he was the son of Adam and Della (Dube) Heroux. He was a graduate of Manchester West Side High School, Class of 1935, and New Hampshire College.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II and Korea. Before retiring, he was employed for many years as a foreman with several different shoe companies in New Hampshire. A resident of Portsmouth since 1969, he was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and a longtime member of the York (Maine) Golf and Tennis Club and the Portsmouth Moose Lodge.
He was the husband of Marilyn (Grivois) Heroux.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a stepson, Michael Lynch of Dover; a stepdaughter, Diane Chapman of Rye; three grandchildren; and one nephew.
HEROUX - George E. Heroux, 85, of 3205 Lafayette Road, No. 313, Portsmouth, died Dec. 8, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Mona L. Price
CANDIA - Mona L. Price, 77, of High Street, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at a Manchester hospital after a long illness.
She was born April 16, 1924, in Dover, the daughter of Lionel and Alta P. (Boston) Nason, and was a lifelong resident of Candia. Prior to her retirement, she owned and operated Price Realty of Candia.
She was a former member of the Candia School Board and the Order of the Eastern Star; valedictorian at Dover High School in 1954; and supervisor of the Check List in Candia. She was a Girl Scout leader and worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during World War II. She was a member of the Elliott Hospital Auxiliary. She was a prominent member of the Republican Party and was very community-oriented.
She was the wife of the late C. Paul Price, who died in 1984.
Survivors include a son, Paul Price of Wolfeboro; four daughters, Nancy Bucciarelli of Merrimack, Susan Young of Candia, Carol Fairfield of Arnold, Md., and Cindy McCroskey of Hixson, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
PRICE - Mona L. Price, 77, of High Street, Candia, died Dec. 8, 2001. Calling hours at the Maiden-Petrin Funeral Home, Four Corners, Candia, will be held 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday. The Order of the Eastern Star will conduct a service at 7:15 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Candia Congregational Church, with the Rev. Chandler Newton officiating. Burial will follow in the family lot in the Holbrook Cemetery, Candia. Anthony W. Kane
SOUTH BOSTON, Mass. - Anthony W. Kane, 81, of South Boston, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at the Edgewood Center in Portsmouth, N.H.
Born Jan. 23, 1920, in South Boston, he was the son of the late John and Annie (Joyce) Kane.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from the Boston Fire Department after 38 years of service where he received the Patrick J Kennedy Medal of Honor.
He was the husband of the late Catherine A. (Hurley) Kane.
Survivors include his children, William A. of Kane of Dorchester, John T. Kane of South Boston, Catherine A. Gray of Portsmouth, N.H., and Margaret M. Collins of Aurora, Colo.; and grandchildren, Sean T., Kevin J., John M. and Colleen M. Kane; Claire, Erin, Shanna and Jaclyn Whalen; Megan Collins; and Julie A. and Thomas A. Gray.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Anne M. Whalen; and siblings Patrick, John, Thomas and Margaret Kane.
KANE - Anthony E. Kane, 81, of South Boston, Mass., died Dec. 7, 2001, in Portsmouth, N.H. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Vincent De Paul Church in South Boston. Visiting hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the John J O'Brien Funeral Home, Dorchester Street, South Boston.
