Carol G. De Chard
PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Carol G. (Goddard) De Chard passed away at her home on Gates Street on Nov. 7, 2001. She was 69 years old.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., to the late Theodore N. and Margaret B. (Ballard) Goddard, she spent her early years in Old Bennington, Vt. She and her husband moved to Portsmouth in 1994, after a 30-year residency in Chappaqua, N.Y.
She attended the University of New Hampshire and received her associates degree in studio arts in 1998, at the age of 67.
Besides her husband Richard, she is survived by her daughter Sandra De Chard-Pigford and husband Robert B. Pigford of Portland, Maine; and brother, Theodore Goddard of Perkinsville, Vt.
De CHARD - Mrs. Carol G. (Goddard) De Chard, of Gates Street, Portsmouth, died Nov. 7, 2001. A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church at Kittery Point, 23 Pepperell Road (Route 103), Kittery Point, Maine, at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 16. The family prefers that remembrances in the memory of Carol De Chard be in the form of contributions to the Portsmouth/Derry/Salem Home Health and Hospice Services, 95 Albany St., Portsmouth, NH 03801. Interment will be at the Proprietors Burying Ground in Portsmouth at a time convenient to the family. The Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, is assisting with arrangements.
Maurice R. Benoit
SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Maurice R. Benoit, 86, of Berwick Road, died Nov. 8, 2001, at the York Hospital following a period of failing health.
He was born Oct. 5, 1915, in Berwick, the son of Leon and Philomen (Langlois) Benoit, and was a lifelong resident.
A veteran of the Army-Air Force, Maurice proudly served his country during World War II. He was a member of the First Parish Federated Church, where he sang in the choir.
He was the service manager at Farmer Chevrolet in Rochester, N.H., and also Leighton Chevrolet in York. Prior to taking ill, he was the manager at the South Berwick Getty Station.
Maurice loved his family, bird watching, gardening and fishing. For a time, he was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Members of the family include his son, Timothy Benoit of South Berwick; two daughters, Salley M. Sawyer, Ph.D. of Aberdeen, S.D., and Gretchen Evans of South Berwick; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
BENOIT - Maurice R. Benoit, of Berwick Road, South Berwick, Maine, died Nov. 8, 2001. The family will observe private burial services in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick. Friends are invited to join the family at a memorial service on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the First Parish Federated Church, Main Street, South Berwick, with the Rev. Donna Muise, pastor, officiating. Memorial donations in Mr. Benoit's name may be made to First Parish Federated Church, South Berwick Rescue Squad or South Berwick Historical Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick.
Donald T. Brown
ELIOT, Maine - Lt. Col. Donald Thayer Brown, 78, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), died Nov. 7, 2001, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born in Pembroke on Dec. 25, 1922, the son of Verner and Isabelle (Abernathy) Brown.
He graduated from Pembroke High School in 1940 and was a graduate of Parks Aeronautical College of St. Louis Missouri. He and Mary Jane Loyd were married in 1948. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II, and the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and the Vietnam War, retiring from the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant colonel.
He was employed at Moore Business Forms of Dover, N.H., in the Quality Control Department for 10 years until his retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman who loved duck hunting, especially in Mobile, Ala., hunting caribou in Alaska and fishing. He was a life member of the NRA and past president and life member of the South Berwick Rod and Gun Association.
He owned and piloted his own airplane and enjoyed woodworking in his shop. Some of his projects were building small boats among other things.
He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Mary, in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Angela Matthews of York; five sons, Dale T. Brown of Rochester, N.H., Clifford Brown and his wife, Angela, of Eliot, David L. Brown of Berwick, Jeffrey R. Brown and his wife, Sharon, of Greenland, N.H., and Robert J. Brown and his wife, Kim, of Cape Neddick; a brother, James Brown of Pembroke; a sister, Barbara Cox of Calais; six grandchildren, John P. George of Orlando, Fla., Leslie and Timothy Brown of Eliot, Darren Brown of Rochester, N.H., and Maxwell and Alicia Brown of Greenland, N.H.
BROWN - Lt. Col. Donald Thayer Brown, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), of Pembroke and Eliot, Maine, died Nov. 7, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted today (Saturday) at 2 p.m., at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, Calais, Maine, with Pastor Bob Hinton, officiating. Friends may visit with the family from noon until the time of the service. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Pembroke. Those who wish may make donations in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
George Pouliopoulos
RYE - Mr. George Pouliopoulos, 74, of 48 Perkins Road, passed away on Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at his home.
He was born in Fall River, Mass., on July 15, 1927, the son of the late Meletios and Christina (Daskalopoulos) Pouliopoulos. He was a graduate of Manchester Central High School, Class of 1943, and received a B.S. from the University of New Hampshire, Class of 1951.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed as a lab scientist for the state of New Hampshire Department of Agriculture.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth.
Besides his wife of 48 years, Fula (Carabelas) Pouliopoulos, survivors include one son, Meleti Pouliopoulos of New York City; two daughters, Christina Pouliopoulos of Portsmouth, and Joanna Weston and her husband, Fred, of Kittery, Maine; two granddaughters, Kayla and Zoe of Kittery; and two sisters, Helen Christy and her husband, Louis, and Antonia Tsialas and her husband, Dimitrios, all of Manchester.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Aganski and Joanna Christy.
POULIOPOULOS - Mr. George Pouliopoulos, 74, of 48 Perkins Road, Rye, died on Nov. 9, 2001. Funeral services will be held at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 40 Andrew Jarvis Drive, Portsmouth, on Monday at 11 a.m. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m., with prayer services by Father Angelo Pappas at 7 p.m. Donations may be made in his memory to St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
Shirley A. Sullivan
RYE - The funeral for Shirley Anderson Sullivan, of Liberty Common, was held Friday morning from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory in Hampton.
Services were conducted at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth. The Rev. Timothy T. Rich, rector, officiated. Dianne Colby Dean was organist and Angelynne Hinson was soloist. Peter D. McManmon, Maura M. Collins and Thomas A. McManmon offered the readings. Lee Sullivan and Ned Tate offered personal remembrances.
Burial followed in the West Parish Garden Cemetery, Andover, Mass., with committal prayers offered by the Rev. Rich. Pallbearers were John Norman Sullivan, Thomas A. McManmon Jr., Peter D. McManmon, Joseph Jameson Collins Jr., Thomas A. McManmon III and Peter D. McManmon Jr.
SAWYER - Memorial services for Lloyd V. Sawyer, of Concord, who died Oct. 8, 2001, and his wife, Margaret W. Sawyer, who died Oct. 19, 2001, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at First Congregational Church, 177 North Main St., Concord. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Woodstock Cemetery, Woodstock. The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.
David S. Copley
BLACK ROCK, Conn. - David Sothoron Copley, 47, died unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at his home in Black Rock.
He was born in 1954 in Indiana, Pa., the son of Jack and Ann Copley of Kittery, Maine. He graduated from Wilton High School, Wilton, Conn.
He owned and operated a landscape design and construction business in Fairfield County.
In the 1970s, he was a professional skier and continued his love of skiing long after. He also loved to sail his new sailboat on Long Island Sound, and enjoyed renovating homes with his wife, Lorrie Ward.
In addition to his wife and parents, survivors include two stepchildren, Dayna and Chris of Black Rock; a brother, John of Boston; a sister, Lissa of Kittery, Maine; a niece, Elizabeth (Copley) Lombard, and grandniece Hannah of Ipswich, Mass.; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
COPLEY - David S. Copley, of Black Rock, Conn., died Nov. 9, 2001. Services will be held Monday, Nov. 12, at the Spears Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield, Conn. Calling hours will be from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 6 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Foundation, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311.
Priscilla P. Philbrick
SILVER LAKE - Priscilla Plummer Forrest Philbrick died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, after a short illness.
She was born March 23, 1902, in Lynn, Mass., a daughter of Henry E. Plummer and Ethel Harmon Plummer. She was married first to Isaiah Lord Forrest, her husband for 42 years, who died in 1967, and subsequently to her second husband, of seven years, Frank H. Philbrick, who died in 1977. Her two sisters, Katherine P. Bartlett Richardson and Elizabeth F. Waterbury, also predeceased her.
She was an active person throughout her long life. A graduate of Lynn Classical High School, she attended the Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass., prior to her marriage in 1925. She taught piano in Madison for many years and sang in the Madison Church choir. She remained a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years and, similarly, was a member of long standing in the Women's Club. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her three children, a son, George N. and Marcia H. Forrest and their three daughters and families, a daughter, Elizabeth F. and Dr. William H. Annis and their three sons and families, and another son, Henry N. and Susan E. Forrest and their two sons and daughter and families, all of whose families include nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two nephews, Philip W. Bartlett and his wife, Martha, of Florida, and David C. Waterbury and his wife, Claudia, of Nevada; and a cousin, Janet Gerry Vincik and her husband, Henry, of Springville, Iowa.
PHILBRICK - Priscilla Plummer Forrest Philbrick, of Silver Lake, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, in the Madison Church. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Madison Church Memorial Fund, Madison, NH 03849. The Furber and White Funeral Home, in North Conway, is in charge of arrangements.
Lena C. Creasey
AMESBURY, Mass. - Lena C. (Brown) Creasey, 99, of 1 Lake St., died Friday evening, Nov. 9, 2001, at her home.
She was the wife of the late Norman S. Creasey, who died in 1988.
Born in Kensington, N.H., on Oct. 31, 1902, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Theodosia G. (Walton) Brown and had graduated from the East School in Kensington and then Amesbury High School and Salem Commercial School.
She was the sixth generation to be brought up on the Newfound Hill Brown Family Farm in Kensington, where she helped her mother with the daily farming chores.
She lived a very active life. She loved to spend endless hours outdoors, puttering around in her garden, and was always looking forward to traveling and visiting family, who were so much a part of her life. In her younger years, she enjoyed attending the dances that used to be held at the Grange Hall. She was also a longtime member of the Main Street Congregational Church of Amesbury.
Her survivors include many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
CREASEY - Lena C. (Brown) Creasey, 99, of 1 Lake St., Amesbury, Mass., wife of the late Norman S. Creasey, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Paul C. Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 2 Hillside Ave., Amesbury, followed by interment in Union Cemetery, Amesbury. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
William T. Keck
SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - William Truman "Bill" Keck, 55, of Boyds Corner Road, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, of a heart attack at his home.
He was born Nov. 2, 1946, in Kittery, Maine, the son of Truman and Josephine (Zoffolli) Keck. He had lived in South Berwick for 11 years after moving from Nottingham, N.H.
He was an engineer-supervisor at Davidson Automotive in Farmington, N.H., where he had worked for more than 30 years.
Members of his family include his wife, Robyn A. (Butler) Keck of South Berwick; his mother, Josephine Keck of Nottingham; two daughters, Stephanie Keck of Nottingham and Patricia Keck of Portsmouth, N.H.; two step-daughters, Toni Burns of South Berwick and Tamber Burns of Kennebunk, Maine; a sister and her husband, Sue and John Vincinguerra, of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Truman, River and Zoe; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins.
Bill's father, Truman Keck, had died two years ago.

RYE - Funeral services for George Pouliopoulos, 74, of 48 Perkins Road, were held on Monday from the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, with services held at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth. Father Angelo Pappas, presbyter, officiated. Words of remembrance were given by Mr. Pouliopoulos' son, Meleti Pouliopoulos. Ushers were G. Spiro Mouflouze, Vasillios Pambukes, Paul Mukyn, Gus Zoulamis and Foti Zotos. Cantors were John Yianacopoulos and Heather Peterson. Organist was Demetrios Yianacopoulos.
In attendance were members of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
Burial was in Central Cemetery, in Rye, with committal services conducted by Father Pappas.
Bearers were Fred Weston, Louis Christy Jr., Meletios Christy, Paul Aganski, Gregory Tsialas and Richard Schanda.
Helen V. Rowe
PORTSMOUTH - Memorial services for Helen Virginia (Smith) Rowe, 83, of 29 Sutton Ave., were held on Saturday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth. The Rev. Donald Jennings, former pastor of the North Congregational Church, officiated. Words of remembrance were given by her daughter-in-law, Lynn Rowe.
In attendance were members of the North Congregational Church in Portsmouth and St. John's Lodge No. 1 F&AM of Portsmouth.
Burial was in the Harmony Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, with committal services conducted by the Rev. Jennings.
Gerald W. Berounsky Jr.
BERWICK, Maine - Gerald William Berounsky Jr., 66, recently of Pine Hill Road, died Nov. 11, 2001, at Portsmouth Hospital.
Born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Dec. 12, 1934, he was a son of Gerald W. Berounsky Sr. and Francis R. (Varney) Berounsky.
He was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth, where he attended local schools. He served his country as a member of the Army National Guard in Portsmouth.
A businessman in Portsmouth for many years, he owned and operated Portsmouth Radiator Company, first on Vaughan Street and then on Mirona Road. He also enjoyed being an auto-body mechanic as well as several other businesses.
He was a member of the American Legion Post in Portsmouth and enjoyed a wide variety of pastime activities, including stock car racing, painting, and skin diving. He especially enjoyed boating and fishing, as well as watching the ice races at Milton Three Ponds. He also enjoyed hovercraft, having previously owned a hovercraft dealership.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra L. (Frost) Berounsky of Berwick; sons Gerald Reynolds and his wife, Terry, of East Lebanon, Maine, and Eric Berounsky of Missouri; a stepson, Robert Patterson Jr., of Portsmouth; two daughters, Carol Johnson of Strafford, N.H., and Tracy Patstone of Berwick; two brothers, Richard and his wife, Mona Berounsky, of Eliot, Maine, and Charles and his wife, Dorothy, of Greenland, N.H.; two sisters and their husbands, Sharon and Greg Jassmond of Kittery, Maine, and Pamela and Maurice Bisson of Burlington, Vt.; a brother-in-law, David Higgins of Kittery; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sons, Edward Reynolds and John and Charles Berounsky, and a sister, Karen Higgins of Kittery.
BEROUNSKY - Gerald William Berounsky Jr., 66, of Berwick, Maine, died Nov. 11, 2001, at Portsmouth Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine.
Walter H. Kimball
KITTERY POINT, Maine - Walter Hillburn Kimball, 78, of Brave Boat Harbor Road, died Nov. 12, 2001, at his home.
Born in Kittery Point on July 9, 1923, he was a son of Everett and Harriet (Estes) Kimball. A lifelong resident of Kittery Point, he graduated from R.W. Traip Academy in 1941.
Walter, a.k.a. "Nip," was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, earning a Purple Heart.
He retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1978 after more than 31 years of service.
He enjoyed clamming and served as the town of Kittery Clam Warden many years ago.
He is survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Joyce (Bilbruc) Kimball of Kittery Point; a son, Michael Kimball of Rye, N.H.; a daughter, Cheryl Elaine Kimball of Middleton, N.H.; an older brother and his wife, Clarence and Jean Kimball of Sebastian, Fla.; a younger brother and his wife, Everett Jr. and Barbara Kimball of York, Maine; three grandsons; two granddaughters; and a great-grandson.
KIMBALL - Walter Hillburn "Nip" Kimball, 78, of Brave Boat Harbor Road in Kittery Point, Maine, died Nov. 11, 2001, at his home. A funeral will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, U.S. Route 1 Bypass, Kittery. Friends and family may call from 10 a.m. until the start of the service at noon. Family flowers only.
