Mary C. Woods
KENSINGTON - Mary Catherine (Kitty) Woods, 84, of 27 Osgood Road, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home in Brentwood.
She was born June 26, 1917, in Gilead, Maine, daughter of the late Larry and Mary (Losier) Losier.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She gave her life to the care of others. She had an exceptionally big heart and was a very selfless woman.
She was predeceased by five sons, Peter Dubois, James Dubois, Jerry Dubois, Danny Dubois and Jon Woods; and one daughter, Gloria Dubois.
She is survived by her husband, Leo H. Woods; one son, Joel T. Woods of Kensington; four daughters, Lynn Jackson of Stratham, Cheryl Lamb of Kensington, Joy Leighton of Brewer, Maine, and Kim Woods of Kittery, Maine; seven grandsons, Donald, Jonathon, Bret, James, Corey, Robbie and Scott; eight granddaughters, Eliza, Lizzy, Jessica, Wendy, Lori, Debbie, Tammy and Katy; several great-grandchildren; one brother, Charlie Losier of Gorham; and several nieces and nephews.
WOODS - Mary Catherine (Kitty) Woods, 84, of Kensington, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at St. Michael's Church, Exeter. Burial will follow in the Village Cemetery, Kensington. Flowers are acceptable.
Julia Thomaier
NASHUA - Julia (Papademas) Thomaier, 76, of 1 Joffre St., Nashua, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a brief illness.
She was the wife of Alan C. Thomaier, with whom she celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
She was born on May 11, 1925, in Nashua, a daughter of the late George and Anthoula (Soufleris) Papademas. She was a graduate of Nashua High School.
She had been employed at Sprague Electric and later retired from Sanders Corporation after many years. She was a member of St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church of Nashua, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She also volunteered at the Nashua Senior Center. She was a kind and gentle woman who inspired many with her love for family, life and the ocean.
She was predeceased by her brother, Judge N. George (Pappy) Papademas of Lebanon, and her sister Eva Makris of Nashua.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Alan C. Thomaier of Nashua; two sons and their wives, Conrad and Ann Thomaier of Boulder, Colo., and Jake and Janice Thomaier of Merrimack; three daughters and their husbands, Sandra Thomaier and Wayne Standley of Shelburne Falls, Mass., Kathryn Peterson of Nashua, and Patricia and Scott Singer of Eliot, Maine; her sister Anastasia Papademas of Goffstown; five grandchildren, Bethany Thomaier, Adrienne Standley, Kelsea Thomaier, Daniel Thomaier and Paige Singer; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
THOMAIER - Julia (Papademas) Thomaier, of Nashua, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, in Boston. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the chapel of the Zis-Sweeney Funeral Home, 26 Kinsley St., Nashua. Visiting hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday. Dorothy H. Watson
RYE - Dorothy H. Watson, 94, of Rye, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at the Mark H. Wentworth Home in Portsmouth.
She was born July 20, 1907, in Lakeport, the daughter of the late William Z. and Lizzie J. (Johnson) Chase.
She was a graduate of Farmington Normal School and taught school in Auburn, Maine, for many years. She also taught kindergarten for 25 years in Rye at her home. She was a member of the Rye Congregational Church, the Friends of the Library, the Every Other Tuesday Club and the Over 55 Club. She had also been involved with many church activities.
She was the wife of the late Irvin L. Watson.
Family members include two sons, Alan J. Watson of Maine and James W. Watson of Massachusetts; one daughter, Lynne M. Geary of New Hampshire; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
WATSON - Dorothy H. Watson, of Rye, died Oct. 13, 2001. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers are acceptable. Richard W. Peyser
PORTSMOUTH - A funeral service for Richard W. Peyser, 82, of 260 Aldrich Road, was held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, on Monday. The Rev. Dawn A. Shippee, pastor of the North Congregational Church, in Portsmouth, officiated. Words of remembrance offered by Mr. Peyser's wife, Barbara Bridle Peyser, and son John G. Peyser were read by the Rev. Shippee. Mr. Peyser's son Richard W. Peyser Jr. also gave words of remembrance.
Burial was in Proprietors Cemetery, in Portsmouth, with committal services by the Rev. Shippee.
Bearers were Richard Peyser Jr., David Peyser, John Peyser, George Peyser, Kevin Peyser and Tom Fabisak.
Honorary bearers were Laurence Peyser, Albert Bergeron, Dr. William Wilson, Leighton Remick, C. Richard Williams and William Devine.
Arline F. Hughes
PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Arline F. (Laderbush) Hughes, 81, of 55 Congress St., passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
She was born in Greenland, Sept. 8, 1920, the daughter of the late Albert and Stella (Perry) Laderbush.
Mrs. Hughes was a resident of Portsmouth for the past eight years and was previously a resident of Cutts Island Lane in Kittery Point, Maine.
She was formerly a volunteer at the Kittery Point Community Center, president and treasurer of the Mitchell School PTA in Kittery Point, and a Brownie leader and den mother in Kittery Point.
Mrs. Hughes was a volunteer for the Senior Center in Portsmouth; RSVP; and a member of the Emerson Hovey Post No. 168 Women's Auxiliary, VFW in Portsmouth.
She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, George Vincent Hughes.
Survivors include a son, George A. Hughes of Portland, Maine; three daughters, Patti Wilder of Strafford, Cindi Harrington of Portsmouth and Becki Collins of Surfside, S.C.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Harry Laderbush of Portsmouth; her twin sister, Anna Labrie of Kittery, Maine; and two sisters, Estelle Pesko of Portsmouth and Betty Peluso of Florida.
HUGHES - Mrs. Arline Frances (Laderbush) Hughes, 81, of 55 Congress St., Portsmouth, and formerly of Cutts Island Lane, Kittery Point, Maine, passed away on Oct. 15, 2001. A funeral service will be held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, Friday at 11 a.m. Friends invited. Robert B. Secord
ROCHESTER - Robert B. Secord, 75, of Cherokee Way, Cocheco River Estates in Rochester, died on Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born May 22, 1926, in Dorchester, Mass., he was the son of the late Harold and Gertrude (McNair) Secord. He had resided in Rochester for 13 years, having previously resided in Farmington for many years.
A Navy Veteran of World War II, he owned and operated Secord Service Station on South Main Street in Farmington for 32 years. He retired from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, after 15 years, in 1990.
He was a retired volunteer member of the Farmington Fire Department, a Mason with Fraternal Lodge No. 71 F&AM of Farmington, a member of the Knights of Phythias and a former member of the Kiwanis.
Bob enjoyed golfing, loved to travel and was a tournament cribbage player.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Lillian (Carpenter) Secord of Rochester; two daughters, Donna Johnson of Hampton and LuAnn Clark and her husband Robert of Deerfield; a sister, Gloria Glennon and her husband William of Farmington; four grandchildren, Scott Johnson and Chris Johnson, both of Alton, and Kimberly Clark and Daniel Clark, both of Deerfield; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Eleanor Duncan and Dorothy Johnston.
SECORD - Robert B. Secord, of Cherokee Way, Cocheco River Estates, Rochester, died Oct. 15, 2001. Calling hours are Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at C.E. Peaslee and Son Funeral Home, 32 Central St., Farmington. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Farmington. Harold B. Magg
PORTSMOUTH - Harold B. Magg, 91, formerly of Court Street and 245 Middle St., passed away Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home, after a long illness.
Born in Portsmouth, Dec. 27, 1909, the son of Harry and Alice (Doolan) Magg, he attended local schools and was a resident here for most of his life.
He was a World War II veteran, serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, as a payroll clerk.
For several months in 1935, he was manager of the Rex Theatre, Norway, Maine. In 1936, he was transferred to the Capitol Theatre, Augusta, Maine, as manager, serving in that capacity until 1942, when he enlisted in the Marine Corps. In 1947, he was employed by the H.C. Baxter & Brother Co., of Brunswick, Maine, as a salesman. He was then employed as a supervisor of plant accounts, in the Comptroller Department, Shop 60, at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1975 after 20 years of service.
He was also employed by the former Goodman's Men's Store as a salesman for more than 17 years, in a part-time capacity.
He is survived by several cousins.
MAGG - Harold B. Magg, 91, formerly of Portsmouth, died Oct. 11, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Friday at 9 a.m. Friends are invited and may visit at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, on Friday, from 8 to 8:45 a.m.
Erik W. Gebhardt
ROCHESTER - Erik Wayne Gebhardt, 32, of 27-C Knight St., died suddenly on Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at his home.
He was born in Dover on Dec. 6, 1968, the son of Frederick L. Gebhardt and Paula T. Portrie. He was a lifelong resident of Rochester. He was predeceased by his mother, who died in 1980, and he was raised by Michael and Elaine Brock.
He was a graduate of Spaulding High School in Rochester, Class of 1986. He worked at Collins Electrical Supply until seven years ago and was currently employed with Consolidated Electrical Distributors of Portsmouth.
Erik loved his Harley-Davidson motorcycle, attended many motorcycle gatherings throughout New England and worked out at Planet Fitness in Rochester.
In addition to his father of Maryland, survivors include his daughter, Brooke N. Gebhardt, and her mother, Susan Gebhardt, both of Berwick, Maine; two brothers, Anthony D. Gebhardt and his wife, Dana, of Lakeworth, Fla., and Scott A. Gebhardt of Indiatlantic, Fla.; one nephew and several cousins, including Heather Davis and Jeffrey Brock.
GEBHARDT - Erik Wayne Gebhardt of Knight Street, Rochester, died Oct. 15, 2001. Friends may call at the H.J. Grondin & Son Funeral Home, 177 North Main St., Rochester, today (Thursday) from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at Holy Rosary Church in Rochester, with burial to follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Sophie J. Geiger
PORTSMOUTH - Sophie J. Geiger of 281 Cabot St., widow of Joseph Geiger, passed away at her home on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001.
She was born in Lincoln in 1915. She grew up in Newington and Jaffrey.
Survivors include two daughters, Helena Butler of Portsmouth and Jolene Stiles of South Lebanon, Maine; a son, Joseph Geiger of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Robyn Burns-Keck of South Berwick, Kenneth Butler of Quincy, Mass., Megan Hanna of Lisbon Falls, Maine, and Graham Stiles of Milton; two great-granddaughters, Tamber L. Burns of Kennebunk, Maine, and Toni M. Burns of South Berwick; one great-great-granddaughter, Zoe Ross of Kennebunk; two sisters, Jenny Hill of Kittery, Maine, and Francis Jenkins of Florida.
She was predeceased by a son, John Geiger, who died in 1953.
Services will be held at a later date.
William F. Lamnick
DOVER - William F. Lamnick, 72, of Applevale Drive, Dover, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at the Riverside Rest Home.
He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Nov. 14, 1928, the son of Harry and Josephine (Koper) Lamnick.
He lived in Dover for 40 years, moving from Somersworth. He was retired from the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served as a cook and baker. He served in World War II.
After retiring from the Marines, he went on to work at the kitchens of the Portsmouth Hospital and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and also at the Commissary at Pease Air Force Base. He was a proud member of the Marine Corps League.
He was the husband of Jeannette N. (Kimball) Lamnick of Dover for 50 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Ann (Mrs. Rick) Boylan of Rochester and Beth (Mrs. Frank) Arroyo of Dover; a brother, David Lamnick of Pennsylvania; and his two grandchildren, Holly Boylan and Kiyanna Hutchins.
LAMNICK - William F. Lamnick, of Applevale Drive, Dover, died Oct. 16, 2001. Relatives and friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave, Dover. Raymond L. Garnett
HAMPTON - Raymond L. Garnett, 72, of 6 Carolan Ave., died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 5, 1929, in Springfield, Mass., the son of the late Fred and Alice (Taylor) Garnett. Raised in Worcester, Mass., he was a graduate of Worcester Academy and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He had been a Hampton resident since 1956.
He worked as an electrical engineer for many years doing consulting work for Westinghouse, Stone & Webster, Wheelabrator, Pine Tree Power and many small hydroelectric plants. He also owned and operated the former Garnett Lumber Co. in Hampton and was the general contractor for several homes built in the Glen Hill neighborhood in Hampton.
He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and served on the Vestry. He served on the Planning Board for the town of Hampton. In his earlier years he worked as a caddy at the Worcester Country Club, where he developed a lifelong love of golf. He was a 45-year member of the Abenaqui Country Club, Rye Beach, and was a member of its board of directors for several years. For the past 10 winters he was a seasonal member of the Citrus Hills Golf Club in Hernando, Fla.
He was a member of the Registered Professional Engineers Association; enjoyed playing bridge, skiing and tennis; and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was the husband of Pauline L. (Ganley) Garnett of Hampton for 47 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Kathleen L. Jones of Chicago, Ill., and Nancy L. Devenyns and her husband, Edward, of Reno, Nev.; four grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Morgan and Paige Devenyns, all of Reno, and Devin Jones of Chicago; and one brother, Lawrence T. Garnett of Ventura, Calif.
He was predeceased by his brother, Robert K. Garnett, and sister, Freida Pettijohn.
GARNETT - Raymond L. Garnett, of 6 Carolan Ave., Hampton, died Oct. 16, 2001. Services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 High St., Hampton, on Saturday at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be private.
