Matthew DeRocchi
LEE - Matthew DeRocchi, 22, of 14 Allens Ave., died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, of injuries from a motorcycle accident.
Born in Exeter on Nov. 9, 1978, he was a son of Frank and Suzanne (Munroe) DeRocchi.
He was a graduate of Oyster River High School, Class of 1997, and was employed as manager of sales/customer support with Welch Fluorocarbon of Dover.
His nickname was "Goat," and he was known for his tattoo "Wherever I may roam" and his wolf collection. He loved the outdoors - walking in the woods, star-gazing, camp get-togethers in Hillsboro, N.H., riding his motorcycle and snow-machining with his dad, brother and friends in Pittsburg, N.H.
In the past two years, he made trips to Hawaii and Alaska, his dream place to live.
He was a member of "The Lee Boys," pit crew member of JB Racing Team (Lee USA Speedway and the Busch North Series), Jim Storace Racing Team and the Lee Fire Department.
He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend.
Survivors include his parents of Lee; his brother, Mark DeRocchi, and his wife, Melissa; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
DeROCCHI - Matthew DeRocchi, 22, of Lee, N.H., died Aug. 26, 2001. Friends and relatives may call from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Purdy Memorial Chapel, Route 4, 2 Concord Road, Lee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at the Church of St. Thomas More, 6 Madbury Road, Durham, with the Rev. Robert G. Biron, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Lee Hill Cemetery. Else N. Hillers
YORK, Maine - Else Niehaus Hillers, formerly of White Plains, N.Y., and North Reading, Mass., died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001, at Harbor Home Nursing Home in York.
Born on Feb. 23, 1905, in Hildesheim, Germany, she was the daughter of Wilhelm Niehaus and Else Blumenberg. She first came to this country when she was 18 years old. She returned to Germany two years later, where she met and married Charles Hillers, to whom she was married until his death in 1966. She and her husband returned to this country in 1926 and set about making a life for themselves.
She worked for many years as a governess and then, in later years, as a bookkeeper at the Scarsdale National Bank in Scarsdale, N.Y., and then at the Essex Broadway Savings Bank in Lawrence, Mass.
Her greatest love was that of her family, and she gloried in the birth of each grandchild and great-grandchild. She was an avid baker, especially of Christmas cookies, and would start each year, the day after Thanksgiving, and bake as many as 20 different varieties before the holiday arrived.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Margaret Rasche, and her husband, Robert, of Wells, Maine; grandchildren Robert Rasche, Robin Barnard, and her husband, Kevin, Kathryn Andrews, and her husband, Eric, all of Wells, and Stephen Rasche, and his wife, Victoria, of York, Maine; and great-grandchildren Anna, Katherine, Samuel and Thomas Rasche and Madeline, Elizabeth and Gary Andrews and Timothy Barnard.
HILLERS - Else Hillers of York, Maine, died Aug. 24, 2001. A funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31, 2001, at the Union Congregational Church, North Reading, Mass., with the Rev. Richard Hughes officiating. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in North Reading at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Union Congregational Church Memorial Fund.
Ruth I. Berry
KITTERY, Maine - Ruth I. (Gerry) Berry, 87, wife of Ernest H. Berry, of 15 Old Post Road, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born in Kittery on Sept. 14, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Ralph J. and Emma Ellen (Davis) Gerry.
She had been a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth since 1933.
Besides her husband, survivors include two children, Ralph Berry of North Berwick and Ruth Todd of Kittery; six grandchildren, Richard Berry of Acton, Maine, David Berry and Kathleen Hayes, both of North Berwick, Joseph Todd and Sarah Todd, both of Kittery, and Christine Todd of Beverly, Mass.; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Cassell of Kittery; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Gerry and Ralph Gerry.
BERRY - Ruth I. (Gerry) Berry, 87, of 15 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine, died on Aug. 27, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Visiting hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Chapel. Family flowers only. Robert C. McIntire
SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Robert C. McIntire, 58, of 2 Old Fields Road, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, N.H.
Born in Dover on June 18, 1943, he was a son of Paul R. and Ella E. (Clough) McIntire.
He was a graduate of South Berwick High School, Class of 1962, and served in the U.S. Navy for four years, from 1962 to 1966. He was a lifelong resident of South Berwick.
He worked as a seafood inspector for 24 years for the Department of Commerce, retiring in January of this year. He had previously been employed by Booth Fisheries.
He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church, where he served as a eucharistic minister and was a member of the Parish Council.
He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Family members include his wife, Madeleine C. (Poirier) McIntire, whom he married on June 8, 1968; one son, Michael C. McIntire of Barrington, N.H.; one daughter, Meredith C. McIntire, a student at the University of Maine, Orono; several nieces and nephews; and a cousin.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Raymond E. McIntire.
McINTIRE - Robert C. McIntire, 58, of South Berwick, Maine, died on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, Dover. Relatives and friends may call from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Michael's Church, with the Rev. Philip Tracy, retired pastor, and the Rev. H.J. Cameron, pastor, as co-celebrants. COOLIDGE - Elizabeth Winsor Coolidge of York, Maine, died Aug. 19, 2001, at York Hospital. A memorial service in her honor will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, in the First Parish Congregational Church, York Street, in York. Arrangements are by Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.
Eleanor M. Perkins
CAPE NEDDICK, Maine - Eleanor Mae Perkins, 74, of Mountain Road, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, at York Hospital. Born in York, she was a daughter of Jeremiah and Marjorie Hilton Lewis. She attended York schools.
She worked in the hotel business for 15 years as head housekeeper at Meadowbrook Inn. She was a former member of Richmond Baptist Church, Richmond, a member and past Master for many years in the Kittery Grange, and a member of the Maine State Grange and the National Grange. She also enjoyed sewing and traveling.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Perkins, in 1984; three brothers, Hurley Lewis, Hartley Lewis and Ellsworth Lewis; and two sisters, Alta Lewis and Henrietta Lewis.
She leaves two sons, Earle Hutchins and William Hutchins, both of Cape Neddick; a daughter, Faye Johnson of Berwick; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
PERKINS - Eleanor Mae Perkins, 74, of Cape Neddick, Maine, died Aug. 27, 2001. There will be no visiting hours. Private graveside services will be held at First Parish Cemetery in York, Maine. Ronald E. Guimond
YORK BEACH, Maine - Ronald E. Guimond, 61, of Fort Hill Avenue, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at York Hospital.
Born on Aug. 26, 1939, in Nashua, N.H., he was a son of Donald E. and Agnes (Beaudin) Guimond.
Before his retirement in 1999, he was employed by Tyco Industries. He had been a general manager and vice president of several divisions over the years, both in the States and overseas. A very accomplished man in his field, he held several patents in the area of chemistry as it applies to painting applications and in the aviation field for high tech antennas for aircraft. He saw the company through several owners, from his beginning with Adams Russell until its sale to Tyco Industries.
He and his wife lived in Amesbury, Mass., for many years and summered in York Beach until his retirement, when they moved to York Beach year-round.
He is survived by his loving wife, Billie Guimond, of York Beach; daughters Jamie Charlier and her husband, John Archambeault, of York, and Holly Guimond of Rockport, Mass.; a son, Kirk Guimond and his wife, Deborah, of Plaistow, N.H.; three grandchildren, Matthew and Patrick Guimond and Jacob Smith; a sister, Bernadette Tremblay and her husband, Wayne, of Mont Vernon, N.H.; and two brothers, Ralph Guimond and his wife, Sue, of Nashua, N.H., and Richard and his wife, Lisa, of Milford, N.H.
GUIMOND - Ronald E. Guimond, 61, of Fort Hill Avenue, York Beach, Maine, died Aug. 25, 2001, at York Hospital. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at St. Christopher's Church in York, Maine. Joseph E. Ploufe
SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Joseph Edward Ploufe, 60, of 151 Portland St., formerly of Eliot, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2001, at Evergreen Manor in Saco.
Born Aug. 26, 1941, in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of Sylvester J. and June O. (Moricette) Ploufe. He attended schools in Manchester, Conn.
He enjoyed the out-of-doors; he loved fishing, plants, wildlife and traveling. He will be missed by family, friends and his very special family at the Farmstead Bed and Breakfast in Eliot.
He is survived by his children, Joseph Edward Ploufe Jr., Jamie Lynn Ploufe and Jodi Lee Ploufe; a brother, Edward J. Ploufe of Connecticut; and two sisters, Carole Tabor of Andover, Conn., and Irene Stancil of Manchester, Conn.
PLOUFE - Joseph Edward Ploufe, 60, of Portland Street, South Berwick, Maine, died Aug. 28, 2001, at Evergreen Manor in Saco, Maine. Funeral services will be private. Paul D. Keenan
HUDSON - Paul Duffy Keenan, 73, of Ferry Avenue, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at the Veterans Hospital in Manchester.
Born Sept. 12, 1927, in Portsmouth, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Cassily) Keenan.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Order of the Purple Heart, American Legion Hudson Post 48, and VFW.
He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and China, where he was wounded and received several medals.
He was a former state legislator, serving in the mid-1960s. He was an avid political observer. He also worked at Pease Air Force Base for the U.S. Air Force in the Audit Agency, and held the position of clerk of court in Tampa, Fla.
He was predeceased by a son, Peter Keenan, in 1981.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly June (Hickey) Keenan of Hudson; four sons and four daughters-in-law, Michael and Louise Keenan of Hudson, Thomas J. and Pamela Keenan of Houston, Texas, Patrick J. and Marie Keenan of Candia, and Kevin and Ruth Keenan of Danville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Maureen Lessard of Amherst, Sheila and Rene Jette of Hudson, and Carolyn and Michael Wright of St. Mary's, Ga.; two brothers and a sister-in-law, John Keenan of California, and Richard and Hilda Keenan of El Paso, Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Edward Plourde of Mount Airey, Md.; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
KEENAN - Paul Duffy Keenan, 73, of Ferry Avenue, Hudson, spouse of Beverly June (Hickey) Keenan, died in Manchester on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church in Hudson on Friday, at 10 a.m. All are invited to attend and may meet at the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry St., Hudson, at 9:15 a.m. Viewing hours will be Thursday, Aug. 30, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth, Friday at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Manchester Kidney Center (Patient Service Fund), 1050 Perimeter Road, Manchester, NH 03103. Shirley Gardner
SPRING HILL, Fla. - A funeral service was held for Shirley Gardner, of Spring Hill, on Monday, Aug. 27, at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery, Maine. In attendance were family, friends and neighbors from her homes in Danvers, Mass., and Rochester, N.H. The service was officiated by the Rev. Real Nadeau of St. Raphael's Church in Kittery. Words of remembrance were offered by her husband, Bruce, and daughter, Dawn Lee, as well as other family and close friends.
Services concluded with a committal service at Brooks Memorial Park in Eliot, Maine, where burial took place.
DIONNE - Irene C. Dionne, 87, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at Langdon Place, Dover, N.H. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine.

KITTERY, Maine - Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth I. (Gerry) Berry, 87, of 15 Old Post Road, were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, in Portsmouth, N.H., on Thursday. The Rev. Father Gordon Allen officiated.
In attendance were members of St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth.
Burial was in Brooks Memorial Cemetery in Eliot, with committal services by the Rev. Allen. Bearers were Richard Berry, David Berry, Joseph Todd, Kathleen Berry Hayes, Sarah Todd and Christine Todd.
Nichole V. Miller
ELIOT, Maine - Nichole Virginia Miller, 16, of Sargents Lane, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2001, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital Trauma Center as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle.
Born on July 30, 1985, in Minot, N.D., she was the daughter of Karen M. Denault of Eliot and Jeffrey A. Miller of Portsmouth, N.H.
Her first love was her family, and she enjoyed spending time with them and with her very special boyfriend, Duncan Rea. Many who knew her describe her as fun-loving and kind. She loved animals, having rescued many and brought them for rehabilitation to the Center for Wildlife in York.
She would have been entering the junior class at Marshwood High School in a few days, and she was looking forward to spending time with her friends again, entering the flora culture program and working with flowers, which is something she enjoyed very much.
She is survived by her parents; grandparents Alice Denault of Kittery and "Pop Pops," Tom Derosia of Kittery, Joseph Miller of Dorchester, Mass., and Nadine Miller of Portsmouth; a brother, "BJ" Miller of Eliot; a stepbrother, Bobbie Chase of Portsmouth; a half sister, Ashley Mcgourty of Eliot; two half brothers, Sean and William Miller of Portsmouth; aunts and uncles Charles and Cindy Denault and Robert and Sue Denault of Kittery and Joelly, John, James and Jeremy Miller of Portsmouth.

Ernest D. Ellsworth
SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Ernest David Ellsworth, 61, of 194 Old Fields Road, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2001, at Exeter Healthcare.
He was born on June 2, 1940, in Piermont, the son of Frank J. and Ethel (Woodbury) Ellsworth. He grew up and attended schools in Haverhill, where his family lived. He graduated from Haverhill Academy; received his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of New Hampshire, and his master's degree several years later.
He worked as an engineer for the federal government Ship Repair Facility for 30 years, including eight years in Guam. For the past 10 years, he was owner and president of TTLC Telecommunications in Dover.
His faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many areas over the years, including bishop and past president, and most recently as a member of the Stake High School.
He struggled valiantly following heart surgery in January; his bravery gave courage to all who came in contact with him. He will be loved and remembered forever.
He loved to canoe, and one of the most special times of his life was a canoe trip with his daughters last year.
He was the husband of Jean (Barber) Ellsworth for 40 years.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, David and John Ellsworth; and four daughters, Sylvia, Melanie, Tanya and Tamara Ellsworth. He was a devoted grandfather to his 10 grandchildren, Bo, William, Ian, Ashley, Madison, Bryan, Dylan, Ted, Emma and Riley.
ELLSWORTH - Ernest Ellsworth, 61, of South Berwick, Maine, died Aug. 30, 2001. Relatives and friends may call today (Friday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover. Visitation for the family will be 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ, Tates Brook Road, Somersworth, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the church.
