Meda J. Barker
HAMPTON FALLS - Meda J. Barker, 84, of 33 Brown Road, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at her home.
She was born in Waterbury, Vt., on April 1, 1917, one of 14 children of the late Fred A. and Sarah R. (Hayward) Mark.
She moved to Hampton Falls in 1959, having come from East Plainfield, N.H.
She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hampton Falls, where she was a former organist and folding sister.
She was also a former organist at the First Baptist Church in Meriden, N.H., and was involved with the former Kitchin-Kut-Ups, a local group of entertainers.
She was the wife of the late Earl J. Barker, who died in 1993.
Family members include five sons, Rodney A. Barker of Rye, Kenneth E. Barker of Rothschild, Wis., Wayne N. Barker of Hampton Falls, Douglas C. Barker of East Kingston, and Warren A. Barker of Brentwood; three daughters, Agnes I. Martin of Milton, Lois E. Dunnington of Chicago, Ill., and Sara J. Pierson of Leesburg, Va.; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Raymond Mark of Florida, Roland Mark of Tennessee, David Mark of New Jersey, and Leslie Mark of California; three sisters, Dorothy Emery of Concord, Bertha Shekleton of Connecticut, and Vera Bean of Cornish; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by six siblings.

Esther E. Lanzillotta
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - Esther E. (Hayes) Burke Lanzillotta, formerly of Pembroke and Kingston, Mass., and Boca Raton, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at the Atrium Nursing Center in Middleboro, Mass., after a period of failing health. She was 91 years old.
She was the mother of William Burke of Portsmouth, a retired chief of the Portsmouth Police Department.
Born in Brockton, Mass., she was a daughter of the late John and Etta (Murphy) Hayes.
She was a graduate of Howard High School in West Bridgewater, Class of 1928.
She was a self-employed bookkeeper, working with her husband's company, M. Lanzillotta Co.
She enjoyed all types of dancing, playing her organ and golfing.
She had resided in Bridgewater for the last three years, having come from Pembroke and Kingston, Mass., and Boca Raton, Fla., where she had lived for 30 years.
She was the wife the late Edward F. Burke and Michael Lanzillotta and the mother of Frances Couet of Lakeville, Mass.; Barbara Hughes of Westlake Village, Calif.; Edward Burke of Auburn, Calif.; William Burke of Portsmouth, N.H.; and Patricia Hines of Brockton, Mass.
She was the stepmother of Fred Lanzillotta of Hanover, Mass., and the late Richard, James and Leo Lanzillotta.
She was the sister of Grace Lougee of Connecticut and the late Thomas, Clarence, John Hayes, Margaret Russell, Mary McNally and Rita Moran.
She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
LANZILLOTTA - Esther E. Lanzillotta, of Bridgewater, Mass., died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001. A funeral will be held at 8 a.m. on Thursday from the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), in Bridgewater, Mass. A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Visiting hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery, Rockland, Mass. Jack William Brown
STRATHAM - Jack William Brown, infant son of Kenneth W. and Lisa M. (Freedman) Brown of 38R Lovell Road, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at the New England Medical Center in Boston.
He was born in Portsmouth on June 23, 2001.
In addition to his parents, family members include one brother, Nicholas Stadig, and two sisters, Alexandra Stadig and Emily Stadig, all of Stratham; maternal grandparents William and Mary Anne Freedman of Portland, Maine; paternal grandmother Venita Brown of Raymond; maternal great-grandmother Pat Freedman of Augusta, Maine; one aunt, Wendy Freedman of Newmarket; two uncles, Warren Brown Jr. of Bradford, Mass., and Philip Brown and his wife, Meg, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and three cousins.
BROWN - Jack William Brown, infant son of Kenneth W. and Lisa M. (Freedman) Brown of Stratham, died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Raymond A. Harrison
PORTSMOUTH - Raymond A. Harrison, 77, of Portsmouth, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at his home. He was born and raised in Framingham, Mass, and graduated from Framingham High School in 1942. He attended the University of New Hampshire and the University of Connecticut, and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology in 1948 and a master's degree in psychology in 1949 from Boston University.
He was a combat veteran, having served in the 303rd Engineer (Combat) Battalion, 78th Infantry Division, in Europe during World War II. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and the capture of the Remagen Bridge over the Rhine, among other actions.
After working as a school psychometrist/psychologist for the Ventura, Calif., County School District for more than three years, he joined the personnel department of the Naval Weapons Center at China Lake, Calif., the Navy's largest research and development laboratory, in 1952. He served as civilian personnel director at the Naval Weapons Center from 1961 to 1975, except for the years 1969 to 1971 when he was personnel director at the Naval Base, Subic Bay, in the Philippines.
From 1975 to his retirement in 1980, he was a member of the Senior Executive Service of the federal government. He served in the Office of the Secretary of the Navy and the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations. He retired as deputy director for civilian personnel in the Department of the Navy.
After his retirement, he owned and operated an executive search firm in Fairfax, Va., for several years.
An enthusiastic golfer, he was past president of the China Lake, Calif., Golf Club and a member of the Sunningdale Golf Club. He did volunteer work for the city of Somersworth and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Portsmouth.
He leaves his wife, Rita Harrison of Portsmouth; four sons, Robert of Antioch, Calif., James of Sherman, Texas, Michael of Big Bear, Calif., and Patrick of Lynwood, Wa.; two sisters, Ruth Zayko of Kingston, Mass., and Barbara Perdue of Framingham, Mass.; two stepdaughters, Julia Boynton of Boston, Mass., and Johanna McGuigin of Eastham, Mass.; three stepsons, Gary Butler of Wellington, Nev., Malcolm Boynton of Plymouth, N.H., and Bruce Boynton of Boston, Mass.; and 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Thomas.
No services are planned.
Catherine M. Chadwick
KITTERY, Maine - Catherine Mary (Quinlan) Chadwick, 85, of 3 Rice Ave., died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a short illness. She had been a resident of Kittery since 1949, and for the past eighteen years had spent a part of each winter in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
She was born in Lawrence, Mass., on Sept. 8, 1915, a daughter of John K. and Catherine Agnes (Carol) Quinlan, and was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Lawrence, Mass. On June 15, 1941, she married Frank H. Chadwick.
Catherine was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church of Portsmouth and St. Raphael's Church in Kittery. She was a board member of Family Services in Portsmouth and a member of the Portsmouth Hospital Guild and the Portsmouth Junior Women's League.
Besides her husband, survivors include four children, Gayle E. Brann and her husband, Bruce A., of Brunswick, Maine, Kathleen A. Chadwick of Manchester, Conn., David W. Chadwick and his wife, Charnette, of Yarmouth, Maine, and Robert F. Chadwick and his wife, Laura Lee, of Bath, Maine; five grandchildren, Garrett Brann of Brunswick, Maine, Benjamin S. Chadwick and Lauren Q. Chadwick, both of Yarmouth, Maine, and Adam K. Chadwick and David W. Chadwick, both of Bath, Maine; a great-grandson, Kehl C. Chadwick of Bath, Maine; a brother, Paul Quinlan of Newburyport, Mass.; two sisters, Cornelia Quinlan of Manchester, Conn., and Marguerite Quinlan of Andover, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews and longtime friends and family members.
CHADWICK - Catherine Mary (Quinlan) Chadwick, 85, of 3 Rice Ave., Kittery, Maine, died Aug. 13, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth. Friends are invited. Lillian Bulis
ELIOT, Maine - Lillian (Flaherty) Bulis, of Eliot, Maine, and Manchester, N.H., died of natural causes on Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, in York, Maine.
She grew up in Manchester and attended Manchester schools. She was a medical secretary to Dr. Frederick Dickerman for many years. She was an active member of the Manchester Business and Professional Women's Club, serving several times as president.
She and her husband, Lyle R. Bulis, a retired Manchester firefighter, who died in 1980, moved to Eliot in the 1970s.
She was a member of the Eliot Garden Club, served as its president and continued to actively participate in club projects until her death. She also enjoyed serving as a York Hospital volunteer for many years. She was a communicant of St. Raphael's Church in Kittery.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia A. and Charles S. Marschall of Corinth, Texas, and their children, Jennifer, Heather and Charles; and a son and daughter-in-law, Lyle E. and Wilma L. Bulis of Littleton, N.H., and their two children, Brian and Kevin.
BULIS - Lillian F. Bulis, of Eliot, Maine, and Manchester, N.H., died Aug. 13, 2001, in York, Maine. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, from St. Raphael's Church in Kittery, Maine. Walter L. Durant
HAMPTON - Walter L. Durant, 70, of 221 Drakeside Road, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Exeter Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born in Hampton on April 1, 1931, he was a son of the late Clinton H. and Lena (Hamel) Durant.
He was a lifelong resident of Hampton, attending Hampton schools, and was a veteran, serving stateside in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was employed for 33 years by AT&T, now Lucent Technologies, in North Andover, Mass., as a machine set-up and layout operator, retiring in 1989.
His love was his family, and he enjoyed hunting, gardening and his animals. Years ago he raised sulky horses, which he enjoyed racing.
He was a member of St. James Lodge No. 102 F&AM, the Telephone Pioneers of America and American Legion Post No. 150 of Newburyport, Mass.
He was the husband of Nancy (Howe) Durant for 46 years.
In addition to his wife, family members include four children, Michael W. Durant of St. Paul, Minn., Patricia A. Wasson of Hampton, Laurie J. Vail of Raymond, and Larry J. Durant of Manchester; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; four brothers, Hollis Durant of Stratham, Richard Durant of Cucamonga, Calif., Arthur "Jim" Durant of Hampton, and Robert Durant of Hampton Falls; six sisters, Ethel Small of Seabrook, Gertrude Brown of Stratham, Grace Brown of Kensington, Martha Janvrin of Glen, Mildred Cote of Dover, and Bessie Chase of Amesbury, Mass.; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Russell Durant.
DURANT - Walter L. Durant, 70, of 221 Drakeside Road, Hampton, died Aug. 12, 2001. Services will be held at 11 .a.m. on Thursday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Donna E. Hunter
HAMPTON - Donna E. Hunter, 86, of 10 Ann's Lane, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Exeter Hospital after a brief illness. She was surrounded by family and loved ones at the time of her death.
Born in Hampton on June 1, 1915, she was a daughter of Walter and Laura (Bragg) Brown, and was a 1933 graduate of Hampton Academy. A lifelong resident of Hampton, she was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm, in 1974, and by her brothers and sister, Walter Brown, Raymond Brown, Winston Brown and Rita Bernier.
A very active woman, she maintained her home and gardens and enjoyed outings with family and friends. She was a loving and generous mother and grandmother.
Family members include one daughter, Pamela D. Fisher and her husband, William, of North Berwick, Maine; two grandsons, Matthew R. Dingle and his wife, Sarah, of Newburgh, Maine, and Nathan H. Dingle and his wife, Wendy, and their children, Hannah and Jacob, all of Lousiville, Ky.; two step-grandchildren, William Fisher of Arlington, Mass., and Bryan Fisher of Hampton; one nephew, Raymond Brown of Salisbury, Mass.; and one niece, Marilyn Bernier of Bedford, N.H.
HUNTER - Donna E. Hunter, 86, of 10 Ann's Lane, Hampton, died Aug. 13, 2001. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the High Street Cemetery in Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. At 6:30 p.m., the family will lead a celebration of her life.
John H. Moore
ELIOT, Maine - John Hayden Moore, who served as U.S. Consul General in the eastern Canadian cities of St. John's and Halifax during the 1970s, died Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, in Eliot, of complications arising from Parkinson's disease.
He was a native of Washington, D.C., and served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1952 to 1954. After graduating cum laude from Georgetown University, he joined the U.S. State Department in 1957, serving in Norway, Pakistan, the United Kingdom (twice), the Philippines, Canada and Australia. He retired to Eliot in 1985.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Moore, of Eliot; two sons, Eric Moore and his wife, Gaye, of Shropshire, England, and Thomas Moore and his wife, Anne Marie, both also Foreign Service officers, of Arlington, Va.; one daughter, Nancy Sullivan and her husband, Martin, of Ipswich, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.
MOORE - John Hayden Moore, of Fore Road, Eliot, Maine, died Aug. 11, 2001, in Eliot. According to his wishes, he will be cremated with no services. Donations in his memory may be made to the William Fogg Library, Old Road, Eliot, ME 03903, or to York Hospital Home Health Care, 15 Hospital Drive, York, ME 03909. Arrangements are by the J.S. Doris Josephson
DOVER - Doris Josephson, 83, of Middle Road, died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at Langdon Place of Dover. Born on Sept. 25, 1917, she was a daughter of Arthur W. and Maude D. (Champion) Lewis and attended local schools. She graduated from R.W. Traip Academy with the Class of 1935.
She was a parishioner of the First Christian Church in Kittery Point, Maine. She spent a number of years working at Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter before her retirement.
She formerly resided in West Wind Estates in Rochester and in Cocheco Park in Dover. She was also employed at General Electric and for Park Square Plumbing and Heating in Boston. She was also employed as a beautician at Favorite Academy of Beauty Culture in Portsmouth.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, she served as a medical technician in Tucson, Ariz., and Dayton, Ohio, among other places. She was a charter member of the Women's Armed Forces Memorial in Washington, D.C., and a member of the American Legion.
She enjoyed cooking and fishing, especially in Spruce Creek and on the bridge to New Castle, catching flounder and other native fish.
She is survived by her sister, Phyllis L. Lewis of Kittery, Maine; and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ralph W. Lewis and Roger S. Lewis, and a sister, Virginia A. Peterson.
JOSEPHSON - Doris T. Josephson, 83, of Dover, died Aug. 12, 2001, at Langdon Place of Dover. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Orchard Grove Cemetery.
