William Robertshaw
BERWICK, Maine - William Lester Robertshaw, 62, of 30 Old Route No. 4, died Wednesday at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover.
Born in Woonsocket, R.I. on Feb. 6, 1939, he was the son of E. Thomas and Edith M. (Brown) Robertshaw. He had lived in this area for most of his life and was a graduate of Berwick Academy, class of 1957.
He was a Vietnam veteran, having served with the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of the Rollinsford Post No. 47 American Legion.
He worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement in 1994, and more recently had worked part-time for the town of South Berwick.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Judith (Walsh) Robertshaw; four children, Heidi Robertshaw of Portland; Lori Poulin and Erin Robertshaw, both of Berwick, and Donna Gorman of Tewksbury, Mass.; three grandchildren; two brothers, E. Thomas Robertshaw Jr. and his wife, Grace, and Alan B. Robertshaw and his wife, Lois; two sisters, Meredith Prewitt and her husband, Robert, and Janet Lagaide and her husband, Paul, all of South Berwick; and several nieces and nephews.
ROBERTSHAW - William Lester Robertshaw, 62, of 30 Old Route No. 4, Berwick, Maine, died July 18, 2001. Visiting hours are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick, Maine. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Parish Federated Church, corner of Main and Academy streets, South Berwick, with the Rev. Carolyn Lambert officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
Francis McFarland
McFARLAND - The Rev. Monsignor Francis T. McFarland, of Medford, Mass., died suddenly, Tuesday, July 17, 2001. He was the beloved son of the late Francis and Marion (Thorburn) McFarland. Visiting hours at the Sullivan Funeral Home, 35 Henshaw St. (behind the police station), Brighton, Mass., today (Thursday) 4-8 p.m. He will lie in state at St. Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford, on Friday, 1-8 p.m., with a vigil service at 8 p.m. A concelebrated Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Bernard Cardinal Law, principal celebrant. DESOTELLE - A memorial service for Ann M. Desotelle, formerly of Portsmouth, will be held on July 21, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth. Carrie A. Odiorne
RYE - Carrie A. Odiorne, 97, of 795 Washington Road, died Thursday at Webster At Rye Nursing Home.
Born in Rye on March 12, 1904, she was the daughter of Chester E. and Ellen D. (Richards) Odiorne.
She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School, class of 1922, and received her teaching degree from Plymouth Teachers College in Plymouth.
She was employed for the Epping School System in Epping, retiring after 42 years. She was a member of the N.H. Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a sister, Mary M. White of New Castle; and many nieces and nephews.
ODIORNE - Carrie A. Odiorne, 97, of 795 Washington Road, Rye, died July 19, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home - Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St. Friends invited. There will be no visiting hours. At the request of the family, please omit flowers.
Helene (Goldman) Maloney
WOLFEBORO - Helene (Goldman) Maloney, 55, of Zephyr Lane, died unexpectedly as the result of a long illness on Wednesday in Laconia.
Born July 30, 1945 in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Bertha (Greenberg) Goldman.
She had lived in Wolfeboro since 1984, previously living in Alton. She owned Nana's Needle Nest, teaching counted cross-stitching. She previously worked as a manager of Lambert Co. in Boston and as the office manager for Dr. Robert Troendle in Wolfeboro for many years.
She loved her grandchildren and was known as Nana to everyone's children. She prided herself in her craft work, winning many first and second place awards at local fairs. She was the originator of Sweet Dreams Pillows for children.
Survivors include her husband, John Maloney, of Wolfeboro; her daughter, Jodi (DeCamp) Hughes and her husband, Robert, of Wolfeboro; two stepdaughters, Kerry (Maloney) Rimstidt, and her husband, Dirk, of Albany, N.Y., and Jonnie Maloney of Denver, Co.; two brothers, Stuart Goldman of Canton, Mass. and Lee Goldman of Brookline, Mass.; four grandchildren, Dana Hughes, Jennifer Hughes, Zachary Rimstidt and Grant Rimstidt; and several nieces and nephews.
MALONEY - Helene (Goldman) Maloney, 55, of Zephyr Lane, Wolfeboro, died July 18, 2001. Calling hours will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 85 Mill St., Wolfeboro. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro. Kevin Flanagan
HAMPTON - The funeral for F. Kevin Flanagan, 71, of 61 Moulton Road, was held Thursday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. John B. MacKenzie, associate pastor, was the celebrant. Mary Jo Wright was organist and Patrice Chaisson was soloist. Altar servers were members of the Holy Name Society. Marsha McGrail offered words of remembrance. Private interment will be in the Gibson Cemetery, Pelham.
Mae L. Holzworth
RYE - Mae L. Holzworth, 76, of 391 Central Road, died Wednesday at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
Born in Malden, Mass. on Sept. 15, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Henry William Murray and Charlotte (Muise) Murray Burgess.
She was a 1942 graduate of Cheverus Catholic High School in Malden and of Wilfred Academy in Boston.
During World War II, she worked at the Boston Naval Shipyard and also worked several years as a hairdresser.
She was a member of the Women's Guild of the Greenland Community Church and was a member of the Kitchen Kut Ups, raising money for charity. She was an excellent cook, an avid knitter and crocheter, a voracious reader, and was blessed with many lifelong friends.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Earl W. Ingalls, and by her brother, James Warren Murray.
Family members include her husband of 46 years, Robert G. Holzworth; two sons, Clyde R. Ingalls of Miami, Fla. and Earl W. Ingalls Jr. of Orange, Calif.; two daughters, Lisa Dill of Lee and Kristen Holzworth of Exeter; seven grandchildren; two brothers, H. Richard Murray of Wakefield, Mass. and Dennis Burgess of Beverly, Mass.; two sisters, Carole Petroni of Las Vegas, Nev. and Shirley Davis of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
HOLZWORTH - Mae L. Holzworth, 76, of 391 Central Road, Rye, died July 18, 2001. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited, and may call the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Burial will be in the Central Cemetery in Rye.
Mildred "Tia" (Nelson) Smith
PORTSMOUTH - Mildred "Tia" (Nelson) Smith, 93, the widow of Clinton "Chet" Smith of 928 South St., died Wednesday at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth. She was a resident of Portsmouth for 75 years.
Born in South Portland, Maine on Nov. 27, 1907, she was the daughter of the late Niles and Margaret (Osgood) Nelson and was a graduate of South Portland High School in South Portland.
She and her late husband owned and operated The White Spot Restaurant in North Hampton for many years, retiring in 1969.
Survivors include three brothers, Warren H. Nelson of Westbrook, Maine, Robert S. Nelson of Portland, Maine, and Richard D. Nelson of South Portland; a daughter-in-law, Angelina Smith of Portsmouth; five grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; several great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Donald B. Smith, in 1990.

Douglas P. Brown
PORTSMOUTH - Douglas P. Brown, 45, of 7 Freedom Circle, died Thursday, July 19, 2001 at his home.
Doug was born in Portsmouth on Dec. 22, 1955. He grew up in Rye and enjoyed fishing, snorkeling, collecting coins, and the love of his family. He graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1973, and was selected for the advanced placement program at the Portsmouth Vocational Technical College. Upon graduating from the Vocational Technical College in 1975, Doug was selected for the welding apprenticeship program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He earned advanced welding degrees and was certified to work on the nation's most advanced nuclear subMarines. Due to Doug's proficient welding skills, he received numerous awards and citations, and was selected to travel to Scotland, Hawaii, California, Connecticut, Washington state, and Virginia to perform technical welding tasks. He was a proud member of the Boilermakers Union Local 920 and very much enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow shipyard workers.
He is survived by his mother Polly (Robbins) Brown of Rye; his daughter Linda B. Brown of Portsmouth; his grandmother Emily Brown of Rye; his sister Susan (Brown) Card and her husband, Rick, of Rollinsford; his brother Russ Brown and wife, Janice, of Portsmouth; his brother Tom Brown and wife, Stephanie, of Rye; his sister Sheila Philp and husband, Steve, of Portsmouth; his sister Joy MacMillan and husband, Tom, of Brentwood; his brother Mike Noonis and wife, Lisa, of Rye; and his brother Tim Noonis and wife, Lisa, of Hampton. Doug was predeceased by his brother James Brown Jr., in 1987; by his mother Geraldine McLaughlin in 1988; and by his father James Brown Sr. in 1998.
Doug particularly enjoyed spending time with his nephews Tyler and Justen Brown, as well as his many other nieces, nephews and extended family members. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him.

Barbara R. (Hanson) Crossley
RYE - Barbara R. (Hanson) Crossley, 55, wife of John G. Crossley Sr., of 21 Triton Drive, passed away at her home, Friday, July 20, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Portsmouth on Sept. 12, 1945, the daughter of the late Charles and Julia E. (Adams) Hanson.
Barbara was a very strong, dedicated, hardworking, and loving individual who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Besides her husband of 38 years, survivors include three children, Johnean Ricker and her husband, Patrick, of Rochester, John G. Crossley Jr., of Kittery, Maine, and Johanna Montgomery and her husband Michael of South Berwick, Maine; five grandchildren, Trisha and Marissa Ricker of Rochester, Sean, Elora, and Miranda Montgomery of South Berwick, Maine; sister, Mary L. Richardson of Portsmouth; brother, Charles F. Hanson, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a special niece, Linda McCarey of Tinley Park, Ill.; a special nephew, Robert C. Copley of Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Bette J. Callham, on Aug. 11, 1965.
CROSSLEY - Barbara R. (Hanson) Crossley, 55, of 21 Triton Drive, Rye, passed away July 20, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel. Bette E. (Kadlec) Marois
TAMPA, Fla. - Bette E. (Kadlec) Marois, age 59, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2001, at her home in Tampa, Fla.
She is survived by her husband, Jonathan; her daughters, Katherine Keever and husband William, Pamela Combs and husband Jerry, Patricia Mellott and husband Michael, all of Tampa; her grandchildren, Amanda Keever, Sprying Harris, Laurie Keever, Jeri Combs, Tuesdai Combs, Christopher Keever, Eric Mellott and Gregory Mellott; and her sister, Joan Salani.
Bette was a graduate of Portsmouth High School with the class of 1959.
Services were held in Tampa, Fla. on July 6.
Marion E. Knight
HAMPTON - The funeral for Marion E. Knight, 89, of 58 Moulton Road, who died July 12, 2001, was held Friday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. The Rev. Deborah Knowlton, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiated. Jean Goss was organist. Nephews of Mrs. Knight offered words of remembrance and a poem. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery with the committal service conducted by Rev. Knowlton.
Adalard Renaud Jr.
DOVER - Adalard Renaud Jr., 81, of 60 Middle Road, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua.
Born on Jan. 31, 1920, in South Berwick, Maine, he was the son of Adalard and Ida (Boston) Renaud. He lived on Webster Street in South Berwick for 55 years, then moved to Route 125 in Barrington for some 20 years before moving to Langdon Place in Dover.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a prisoner of war for four years, and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He owned and operated the former Tydol Station in South Berwick for many years, and as a messenger at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 12 years until he retired.
He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in South Berwick.
He was the husband of the late Rita (Rousseau) Renaud.
Survivors include a daughter, Daralyn Stewart of Dover; a son, Dale Renaud of Barrington; four grandsons, Benjamin and Stewart Renaud, and Joseph and Brian Stewart; two granddaughters, Kelly Renaud and Samantha Stewart Ouellette; a great-granddaughter, Michelle Ouellette; a brother, Arthur Renaud of South Berwick; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
RENAUD - Adalard Renaud Jr., 81, of Middle Road, Dover, died July 21, 2001. Tanya Lee Hussey
SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Tanya Lee Hussey, 21, of Hooper Sands Road, died suddenly on Friday, July 20, 2001, at the Children's Hospital in Boston, Mass.
She had a heart transplant four years ago, and those four years were good ones for her and her family.
Born on Oct. 3, 1979, in Dover, N.H., she was the daughter of Peter C. and Linda (Monroe) Hussey. She lived in South Berwick all of her life, and was a graduate of Marshwood High School.
She worked with her sister at the Berwick Early Learning Day Care Center.
In addition to her parents and sister, Melissa Hussey, all of South Berwick, survivors include her paternal grandparents, Elsie and Paul Hussey Sr. of South Berwick; her boyfriend, Brian A. Ferland of Rochester, N.H.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
HUSSEY - Tanya Lee Hussey, 21, of Hooper Sands Road, South Berwick, Maine, died July 20, 2001. Alan K. Driggs
BREWSTER, Mass. - Alan K. Driggs, 93, of Brewster and York, Maine, died of natural causes on Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at York Hospital.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., her was an Eagle Scout and a 1928 graduate of Lafayette College. He had been named an All-American lacrosse player while at Lafayette and was employed on Wall Street, where he witnessed first-hand the stock market crash of 1929. He continued his education, earning a master's degree from Columbia University in 1931.
For several years he was a teacher and coach with the Boonton (N.J.) school system. He was then employed with an electronics firm for 30 years, holding the position of plant manager upon his retirement in 1972.
A summer resident of Brewster for more than 30 years, he split his time between his Brewster home and York after his retirement.
He was granted his pilot's license in the 1940s, and was an avid fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and Boston Red Sox.
He was the husband of Florence (Jacobus) Driggs.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughters, Susan Polhemus of Tampa, Fla., and Jean Dominguez of York; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
DRIGGS - Alan K. Driggs, 93, of Brewster, Mass., and York, Maine, died July 18, 2001. His service will be held at noon on Monday at the Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, Mass. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Brewster. Donations may be made in his memory to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 364, Portland, ME 04104.
