Charles Came
YORK, Maine - Charles A. Came II, 66, of York, died of cancer on Sunday, June 15 at the Kennebunk Nursing Center in Kennebunk.
He was born in Dover, N.H. and was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and the University of Southern Maine. He maintained dual careers as a nurse practitioner and professional photographer for more than 25 years. As a nurse practitioner, he was employed by Harvard Community Health Plan in Boston and Maine Medical Center in Portland. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps from 1955 to 1958 and was stationed in Munich, Germany for two of those three years.
His photographs were shown at the DeCordova Museum and appeared in Yankee Magazine and other publications. In 1995, he produced the black and white photo-biography exhibit, shown in Portsmouth, "Successful Women of the Seacoast," which recognized local professional and business women.
A lover of the visual arts and music, he also traveled and photographed extensively in Italy during recent years. He was an avid downhill skier who also enjoyed bicycling and sailing.
He is survived by his wife, Dale, of York; three children from a previous marriage, Cheryl Caine of Birmingham, Mich., Brian of New Castle, N.H., and Deborah DeLambert of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandchildren, Brian Taylor and Natalia Came; and a brother, Paul, of Chicago, Ill.

Francis Cote
SALEM - Francis F. "Frank" Cote, 84, of Salem, died Sunday, July 15, at the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass.
Born in Lawrence, Mass., where he grew up and attended schools, he was a resident of Salem for the past 60 years.
He was a retired machinist for B.G. Peck Company of Lawrence. He was a member of St. Joseph Church in Salem. He enjoyed carpentry and working around the house.
He was predeceased by his wife, Alice M. (Bodenrader) Cote; and a daughter, Betty Cote.
He is survived by a son, Frank Cote of York, Maine; two daughters, Joan Vilandre and her husband, Paul, of Salem, and Kathleen Cote of Salem; one sister, Gladys Nowell of Salem; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
COTE - Francis F. "Frank" Cote, 84, of Salem, died Sunday, July 15, 2001. Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Douglas & Johnson Funeral Home, 214 Main St., Salem. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem.
George Hall
YORK - George Keen Hall, 79, of Freeman Street, husband of Elinor M. (Hackney) Hall died Monday, July 6 at York Hospital after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 16, 1921 in Portsmouth, N.H., son of Winfred and Eva (Keen) Hall, and attended local schools.
Mr. Hall was employed as a bus mechanic first for Interstate in Dover, N.H., and then for the Boston Maine Bus Company in Portsmouth, and for 32 years for Marshall Transportation Company in Exeter, N.H., retiring in 1977.
He and his wife lived in Portsmouth for 26 years before moving to York Beach in 1979. They spent their winters in Kissimmee, Fla. for the past 15 years.
Mr. Hall was a quiet, dignified person who enjoyed the company of friends and family. He was a perfectionist who enjoyed carpentry, painting, and working in his garden. He enjoyed traveling abroad and to Canada to visit family and friends.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Elinor M. (Hackney) Hall of York Beach; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Dorothy Hackney of Cape Neddick; a niece, Valerie Seaton, her husband, David, and their children, Matthew and Jared, all of Sierra Vista, Ariz.
HALL - George K. Hall of Freeman Street, York Beach, Maine, died July 16, 2001 at York Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Interment in First Parish Cemetery in York. Kevin Flanagan
HAMPTON - F. Kevin Flanagan, 71, of 61 Moulton Road, died Monday at the Exeter Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born in Lowell, Mass. on April 9, 1930, the son of the late Edward C. and Gertrude (Clarke) Flanagan.
Mr. Flanagan was a graduate of Keith Academy in Lowell, Mass., attended Lowell Technical Institute, and was a graduate of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy.
He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He worked for 25 years as a sales representative in the New England area for the Hanes Division of the Sara Lee Corporation, retiring in 1992.
Mr. Flanagan resided in Hampton since his retirement, coming from North Hampton, where he had lived for 20 years.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church and, while residing in North Hampton, had been a communicant of St. Theresa Church, Rye Beach. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Portsmouth Country Club.
He was the husband of Rita F. (Szczypinski) Flanagan for 47 years.
In addition to his wife, family members include three sons, Kevin Flanagan of Hundon, England, Michael Flanagan of Dover, and Bill Flanagan of Barrington; three daughters, Karen Manson of Salem, Kathleen Inglis of Hampton, and Judith Flanagan of Newmarket; a sister, Jane Avey of Nashua; nine grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.
FLANAGAN - F. Kevin Flanagan, 71, of 61 Moulton Road, Hampton, died July 16, 2001. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. David Desmond
YORK HARBOR, Maine - David FitzGerald Desmond, Lt. Col. U.S. Air Force (retired), 83, of 14 Cameo Court, Sentry Hill Retirement Community, York Harbor, died on Sunday, July 15 at York Hospital after a valiant fight against prostate cancer.
Born in Portland on Feb. 15, 1918, the son of John and Helen (Dougherty) Desmond, he was a graduate of Chevrus High School and Portland Jr. College.
He had been a resident of York since 1946 and was employed at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the Design Division for many years. Throughout the 1960s, he was president of the Old York Improvement Society and the York Chamber of Commerce. He and his wife operated Desmond Cottages on Long Sands Road from 1951 until 1980. Mr. Desmond was also the owner of The Desmond Real Estate Agency and at the time of his retirement from real estate, it was the oldest original owner-operated agency in York.
Mr. Desmond was a former member of the York Golf and Tennis Club and was an avid tennis player until the age of 81. He eagerly tried to inspire this love to his grandchildren and their young neighbors.
He was keenly interested in early Irish Desmond heritage and conducted presentations and fund-raisers to restore The Great Hall at Desmond Castle in Askeaton, Ireland. He and his wife enjoyed many years of foreign travel and happy vacations at their cottage on Lake Winnipesaukee and winters of tennis activity with dear friends at Marco Island, Fla.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Constance (Hirst) Desmond of York Harbor; son Russell J. Desmond and his wife, Bobbie; two grandchildren, Jacqueline and Brandon of York; a brother, Thomas J. Desmond of Chatham, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Barbara Hirst Black; two nieces; and two nephews.
Antonia Vento
PORTSMOUTH - Antonina (Ann) Vento, 62, of 102 Marne Ave., passed away Monday at the Edgewood Centre after a long, spirited battle with cancer.
Born in Portsmouth on Feb. 13, 1939, she was the daughter of Angelina and Angelo Vinciguerra. She attended St. Patrick's School and graduated from Portsmouth High School, class of 1957. She attended the University of New Hampshire. She most recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary as an employee of Liberty Mutual Insurance Group.
She was a member of the Young Democrats, the Catholic Youth Organization, and was proud to have organized the first Fall Festival at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Portsmouth. She also attended Immaculate Conception Church and was a member of its choir. She loved vacationing with her family and took many trips around the country, including visiting her daughter, Jennifer, while she was studying abroad in England.
She raised two daughters, Jennifer and Amy, in Portsmouth with her husband, Thomas. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Vento of Portsmouth; daughters Amy Vento of Portsmouth and Jennifer Vento of Kittery, Maine; her brother, Charles Vinciguerra, of Goldsboro, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
VENTO - Antonina (Ann) Vento, 62, of 102 Marne Ave., Portsmouth, died Monday, July 16, 2001. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church, Summer Street, Portsmouth. Visiting hours will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Farrell Funeral Home on State Street in Portsmouth. Jeanette White
NEW CASTLE - Jeanette I. (Talbot) White, 79, of 37 Laurel Lane, died Monday at the Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth.
Born in Caribou, Maine on Oct. 16, 1921, she was the daughter of Harlan and Beatrice Talbot.
She was educated in the New Castle and Portsmouth schools, graduating in 1939. Her Registered Nurses certificate was from Mt. Auburn Hospital/Massachusetts Hospital in Cambridge, Mass.
She attained a degree in anesthesiology from the U.S. Army Nurses Corps. She completed a tour of duty in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. Upon her return in 1946, she married Warren M. White, who died in 1976.
She was very proud of her association with the women's service organization, Altrusa, and was a past president and treasurer of the organization.
She gave generously of her time in many ways, including the Hospital Guild, Strawbery Banke, and RSVP. Her artistry extended to cross-stitching and rug-hooking.
She is survived by her son, Richard H. White, his wife, Jan, and their son, Adam, from New Castle.
WHITE - Jeanette I. (Talbot) White, 79, of 37 Laurel Lane, New Castle, died July 16, 2001. Eric Scharf
SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Eric John Scharf, 34, of 10 Parent St., died Tuesday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Born in Salem, Mass. on Sept. 18, 1966, he was the son of John H. and Rosalie (Goodwin) Scharf. He had lived in South Berwick for most of his life, where he was a graduate of Berwick Academy, class of 1984. He also attended college in Oklahoma.
In his youth, he was active in motocross racing. He loved NASCAR racing, sailing, and music. He was a member of the board of directors of the South Berwick/Rollinsford Little League and had also been a coach.
He was a member of the South Berwick Rotary Club and served on the Planning Board for the town of South Berwick.
He was the general manager for Spring Hill Recreation Area, a family business he grew up in and had worked with all of his life, and was in the process of rebuilding the lodge at Spring Hill. He was also a builder working with Signature Builders of Dover, N.H.
He is survived by his wife, Dulcy Tufts; a son, Dawson Eric Scharf; a niece who lived with them, Yaicha Crowell; his mother, Rosalie Scharf; two sisters, April Frost and Karyn Scharf, all of South Berwick; several aunts and uncles he was very close to; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
SCHARF - Eric John Scharf, 34, of 10 Parent St., South Berwick, Maine, died July 17, 2001. There are no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Parish Federated Church, corner of Main and Academy streets, South Berwick, with the Rev. Donna Lee Muise and the Rev. Carolyn Lambert, ministers of the church, officiating. Burial will be private in the family cemetery at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home. William James
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for William F. James, 64, of Portsmouth and a longtime resident of Greenland, were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth on Tuesday. The Rev. Donald Gum, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, officiated.
In attendance were representatives from the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Greenland, with committal services by the Rev. Gum.
An honor guard was formed at the cemetery by a detachment from Hanscom's Air Force Base, including 2nd Lt. Garrett Fisher and A1C Alison Gagnon.
The American flag that draped the casket was folded by the honor guard and presented to his sister, Juanita Saunders, by 2nd Lt. Fisher.
Bearers were F. William Saunders, Zachary Mocciola, Jesse Padziora and Richard Emery.
Georgia Geyer
PORTSMOUTH - Georgia Varney (Clark) Geyer, 81, the wife of Abbott W. Geyer, of 153 Pinehurst Road, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at her home.
Born in Saranac, N.Y., March 12, 1920, she was the daughter of Herman E. and Nora T. Clark. She was a graduate of Rochester High School and attended Sargent College at Boston University.
She was employed as an electrologist in Portsmouth for many years.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi; the North Congregational Church, where she was among the originators of the Nearly New Shop; a charter member of the Thursday Bridge Group; and an accomplished rug-hooker.
She will be remembered for her wit, determination, hospitality, creativity, endless energy and selflessness.
Besides her husband of 59 years, survivors include her daughter, Gay G. Ehler of Denver, Colo.; a grandson, Erick W. Ehler of Denver; a sister, Martha V. Corson of Contoocook; and a brother, Charles E. Clark of Kennebunkport, Maine.
She was predeceased by her twin sister, Janet Clark, and sister Elizabeth T. Wadman.
Edward Pittz
HAMPTON - Edward H. Pittz, 44, of 461 High St., died Tuesday at the Lahey-Hitchcock Clinic in Burlington, Mass.
He was born in Albany, N.Y., the son of Edna L. (Rockefeller) Pittz Dunston of Albany and the late Edward N. Pittz.
Mr. Pittz graduated from Vincentian Institute in Albany with the class of 1975 and Albany Business College.
He worked as a self-employed computer consultant and had resided in Hampton the past 10 years, coming from Hudson. He enjoyed traveling and fishing.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his companion of 12 years, Sandra J. Brown of Hampton; one son, Edward N. Pittz of Goffstown; a stepfather, Kalmon R. Dunston of Albany; two sisters, Barbara J. Kuhn of Selkirk, N.Y. and Gail D. Howe of Mechanicville, N.Y.; a stepsister; stepbrothers; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews, and cousins.
