Lisa Boston Frye
SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Lisa Boston Frye, 45, of 207 Boyd's Corner Road, died on Friday, June 29, 2001, at York Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Portsmouth, N.H., on Feb. 8, 1956, she was the daughter of Quentin R. and Virginia (Beem) Boston. She was a resident of South Berwick most of her life.
She was a graduate of Marshwood High School, Class of 1974, and attended the College of Lifelong Learning at the University of New Hampshire.
She worked for Developmental Services for six years, and for the past four years worked as an operator for Verizon at its Dover, N.H., operations facility.
She was a member of the Rollinsford American Legion Post Auxiliary and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 2320 AFL-CIO.
Her loving and outgoing spirit yielded her many wonderful friends throughout her life.
She was the wife of Russell H. "Rusty" Frye Jr. of South Berwick.
In addition to her husband and her parents, of Lady Lake, Fla., survivors include two daughters, Wendy R. Fanta of Charlotte, N.C., and Meagan L. Tribunella of South Berwick; one son, Russell H. Frye III of South Berwick; three sisters, including her twin, Lynn M. Boston of Winthrop, Mass., Rhonda J. Mendato of Dover, and Pamela Wright of Norfolk, Va.; one brother, Christopher J. Boston of Renssalaer, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Rebecca E. Fanta of Charlotte, N.C.; aunts and an uncle; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, David Q. Boston, in 1981.
FRYE - Lisa Boston Frye, 45, of South Berwick, Maine, died June 29, 2001. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donna Lee Muise, pastor of First Parish Federated Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, South Berwick. Florence N. Pugh
CAPE NEDDICK, Maine - Florence N. Pugh, 84, of 1288 Route 1, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, N.H.
Born April 14, 1917, in Cape Neddick, she was the daughter of Charles and Nellie (Todd) Matthews. She was a graduate of York High School and MacIntosh Business College.
She was a bookkeeper at Roger Young Oil Co. for 20 years. She attended the Cape Neddick Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, ceramics and spending time with her family.
She was predeceased by three sisters, Dorothy Hammond, Phyllis Grimes and Thelma Matthews; and one brother, Floyd Todd.
Survivors include three sisters, Clara Parshley of Portsmouth, N.H., Helen Jaster of Philadelphia, and Aloma Bowie of Cape Neddick; and several nieces and nephews.
PUGH - Florence N. Pugh, 84, of 1288 Route 1, Cape Neddick, Maine, died June 28, 2001, in Nashua, N.H. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 2, at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York, Maine. There will be no visiting hours. Mary B. Schneer
EXETER - Mary B. Schneer, 80, longtime resident of Newfields, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at The Lodge at RiverWoods.
Born in Carteret, N.J., on April 5, 1921, she was the daughter of writer Jean (Barnum) Temple and John Barsam.
She graduated from Far Rockaway High School, Class of 1940, and attended Queens College of New York and the University of New Hampshire, where she earned her bachelor's degree in 1960.
A longtime member of the League of Women Voters in Exeter, she ran for the Legislature on the Democratic ticket in 1972 and served as supervisor of the checklist in Newfields for many years. She also worked as an arts docent in the Outreach Program at the University of New Hampshire.
She was the wife of Cecil J. Schneer. During their 58 years of marriage, the Schneers lived at various times at Morococha Mines, Peru, (SA); Zurich; Milan; Paris; Cambridge, Mass.; Clinton, N.Y.; Ithaca, N.Y.; and Newmarket, N.H., as well as Newfields.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Jean Schneer Silverman of Newmarket; a son, David Schneer of Portsmouth, N.H.; and a sister, April Hansen of Saginaw, Mich.
SCHNEER - Mary B. Schneer, 80, of Exeter, died June 19, 2001. A memorial meeting will be held at RiverWoods at Exeter, 7 River Woods Drive, on Thursday, July 5 at 2 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. No flowers, please. Her favorite cause was the Friends of the Art Gallery, University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH 03824.
Mildred J. (Mackenzie) Edgecomb
EXETER - Mildred J. (Mackenzie) Edgecomb died on Friday, June 29, 2001, at Exeter Healthcare.
Born in Hartford, Conn., on April 7, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Dora (MacGraw) Thorne. When she was 6 months old, her family moved to Portsmouth, where she spent her childhood years. She also lived in Newington, Stratham and Greenland for many years, before residing at Langdon Place in Exeter.
She married her high school sweetheart, Alexander Mackenzie of Newington, in 1934 and they were happily married for 35 years before he passed away. In later years she met and married Leslie Edgecomb of Sanford, Maine. They were also happily married for 15 years until his death.
She was a member of the Newington Congregational Church, a former member of the Stratham Seventy-sixers and the Greenland Alliance. She was a lifetime member of the Rivermouth Chapter No. 54, Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid music lover and enjoyed playing the piano. She was a member of the cast for several of the Portsmouth Lodge of Elks minstrel shows.
She is survived by a daughter, Joanne (Mackenzie) Shultz of Greenland; a son, Alexander Mackenzie of Stratham; a granddaughter, Heather Mackenzie of Stratham; several nieces and nephews; two stepgrandchildren, Sean Rowley of Los Angeles and Shari Stanford of New York.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Asa M. Thorne, H. Weston Thorne and Norman B. Thorne (World War II); and two sisters, Elinore (Thorne) Franck and Mollie (Thorne) Marsden.
EDGECOMB - Mildred J. Edgecomb, of Exeter, died June 29, 2001. Calling hours will be held on Monday, July 2, 6-8 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 3, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Stratham. The family wishes to thank the Exeter Healthcare Center personnel, and in particular, the caregivers of the East Wing. The warmth and concern during our mother's final weeks, days and hours for both our mother and for us was truly wonderful. Linda J. Paré
HAMPTON FALLS - Linda J. Paré, 39, of 6 Parsonage Road, died on Saturday, June 30, 2001, at her home.
She was born on June 25, 1962, in Waltham, Mass., and was raised in Framingham, Mass. She had resided in New Hampshire for many years.
For several years she and her husband, Timothy Paré, owned and operated Danielle's Pizzeria in Hampton Falls.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton and had been active in Hampton Falls as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.
She was the daughter of the late Margaret A. (Quinn) Kelly.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Katie Paré and Danielle Paré; two sisters, Kit Kelly of Boston and Laurie Kelly of Milton, Mass.; her mother-in-law, Ann Paré of Seabrook; two brothers-in-law, Richard Paré and Michael Paré; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
PARÉ - Linda J. Paré, 39, of 6 Parsonage Road, Hampton Falls, died June 30, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, Hampton. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited and may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Mary Grace Maher
EXETER - Mary Grace Maher, 99, of RiverWoods at Exeter, died Saturday, June 23, 2001.
She was born Nov. 12, 1901, in Meriden, Conn., a daughter of the late Luke Madden and Eleanor Smith.
After attending local schools in Meriden, she graduated from Connecticut State Teachers College in New Haven, Conn., in 1921 and did her graduate studies in education at Yale University.
She taught school in Meriden for several years and moved to Stratford, Conn., after she married her husband, Dr. John M. Maher, in 1934. Both she and her husband, while raising three children, enjoyed the outdoor activities of golf, horseback riding and swimming at Long Beach in Stratford.
Her husband died in 1958 after a bad fall. She continued to reside in Stratford until 1988. She resumed teaching in Stratford and Bridgeport, Conn. She was an avid bowler at the Algonquin Club in Bridgeport. She bowled for a number of local teams for 38 years and only stopped at the age of 94, when she moved to RiverWoods in Exeter. Her greatest athletic interest, however, was walking. She walked a few miles every day and it was a challenge for anyone to keep up with her.
She moved to RiverWoods in 1995 from Bridgeport. She loved RiverWoods and made many new friends there. In November 2000 she had a wonderful birthday party to celebrate her 99th year. Her children, relatives and many friends attended.
She is survived by one son, John R. Maher of Portsmouth; two daughters, Virginia Falvey of Belmont, Mass., and Eleanor Collins of Ridgewood, N.J.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Verna Madden of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters Eleanor, Mildred and Dorothy.
MAHER - Mary Grace Maher, 99, of RiverWoods at Exeter, died June 23, 2001. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on July 12, 2001 at RiverWoods at Exeter. Private burial was in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Meriden, Conn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. Assistance with the arrangements was by the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton.

PORTSMOUTH - June Deary Harmon, 66, of 592 Dennett St., died suddenly on Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born in Seneca Falls, N.Y., on July 27, 1934, she was a daughter of George and Edna (Miller) Deary. She had been a resident of Portsmouth since 1972.
She was employed by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, where she was a eucharistic minister.
She was an avid bowler and was active in the Southeast New Hampshire Women's Bowling Association, where she was a former member of the board of directors and served as secretary for 22 years. She was also an instructor for the Young Americans Bowling Association.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Merle E. Harmon; five daughters, Debra Jean English and her husband, Frederick, of Rapid City, S.D., Lori Ann Washok of Portsmouth, Kimberly Joan Nadeau and her husband, Frank, of Ft. Drum, N.Y.; Beth Marie De Witt and her husband, Jonathan, of Barrington, and Krista Leigh Poole and her husband, David, of North Hampton; one son, Jeffrey Paul Harmon of Portsmouth; 11 grandchildren, Zachary Ryan, Eric and Joshua English, Athena, Patrick, Steven and Paige Harmon, Laray Roy, Terressa Philbrick, Emily Mead and Alicia Washok; three great-grandchildren, Gabriel Masloski, Samantha Marie Roy and Jeffrey Philbrick; a sister, Jean Duffy of Palatine, Ill.; three brothers, Louis Deary of Seneca Falls, N.Y., John Deary of Coventry, R.I., and James Deary of Boca Raton, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Mark E. Harmon, and a granddaughter, Sarah Marie Washok.
HARMON - June Deary Harmon, 66, of 592 Dennett St., Portsmouth, died June 30, 2001. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Catherine of Siena Church. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Bertha L. Rugg
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Bertha Louise (Coleman) Rugg, 95, of 699 Middle Street, Portsmouth, were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth on Saturday. Rev. Henry Stonie, Pastor, of the First Congregational Society-Unitarian Church in Hampton Falls, officiated. A poem was written and read by Bertha's grandson's wife Gail Brown.
Burial was in Sagamore Cemetery in Portsmouth, with committal services by Rev. Stonie.
Bearers were Scott Brown, Richard Riley, Paul McManus, and Kenneth Lobdell.
Kim A. Gouin
PORTSMOUTH - Kim Amy (McDonald) Gouin, 45, of 157 Richards Ave., joined Tom, her husband of 25 years, on July 2, after they both courageously battled cancer for over a year.
She was born on Sept. 17, 1955, in Whitinsville, Mass., the daughter of Denis L. and Betty I. (Bouregard) McDonald of East Douglas, Mass.
Kim was a graduate of Uxbridge High School in Uxbridge, Mass., Class of 1973, and received her associate's degree in nursing from the Stratham Technical College in Stratham in 1993.
She was employed at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital as a registered nurse in the IMCU Unit.
Kim volunteered much of her time with several organizations including the Battered Women's Organization, Pro Portsmouth, and Habitat for Humanity, as well as supporting several Breast Cancer and Multiple Sclerosis Walkathons.
She enjoyed numerous outdoor activities including walking, hiking, camping, and biking, and loved just being outdoors.
Kim was a member of the American Nurses Association, the National Parks Association, and Rails to Trails.
Besides her mother and father of East Douglas, Mass., survivors include her children, Seth T. Gouin of Exeter, Amanda K. Gouin of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Joshelyn Gouin of Portsmouth; her sisters, Kathleen Dwights of Douglas, Mass., Kerry Campopiano of Douglas, Mass., and Kris Gray of Whitinsville, Mass.; a brother, Kevin McDonald of Munson, Mass.; a dear friend and companion Jeanie Daniels; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. She is also survived by her dog, Spencer.
A brother, Kelly McDonald, predeceased her.
GOUIN - Kim Amy (McDonald) Gouin, 45, of 157 Richards Ave., Portsmouth, died July 2, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church, Chapel Street, Portsmouth. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth. It is requested that there be family flowers only and that donations in Kim's memory be made to the Portsmouth Home, Health and Hospice, 95 Albany St., Unit 11, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
Lucie M. Palmer
RYE BEACH - Lucie Mackay Palmer, of St. Louis, Mo., died of cancer Feb. 27 in St. Louis.
She was born in St. Louis and was a 1931 graduate of Mary Institute, studied at the Art Students League in New York and at the School of Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Mrs. Palmer and her late husband were interested in marine biology and their work took them all over the world. While he studied marine life, she developed techniques that allowed her to paint underwater, using oils on wooden panels. Her paintings were widely exhibited.
In the 1940s they went on the lecture circuit where they gave illustrations of their exploits offering vivid descriptions of undersea life and life on the shores of the world's oceans. They continued on the lecture circuit until the late 1950s. They moved to Winter Park, Fla., in 1959, and to Cuernavaca, Mexico, and in 1963 returning to St. Louis. She had been a lifelong summer resident of Rye Beach and Little Boar's Head.
The widow of Vincent Palmer, who died in 1994, she is survived by one daughter, Lucie Garnett and her husband, Anthony; one granddaughter; and two grandsons.
PALMER - Lucie Mackay Palmer, of St. Louis, Mo., died Feb. 27, 2001. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's By-The-Sea Beach.
Helen S. Mitchell
NEWMARKET - Helen S. Mitchell, 77, of Bald Hill Road, died Sunday, July 1, at her home in Newmarket.
Born Sept. 27, 1923 in Littleton, she was the daughter of Harry and Esther (Peabody) Simpson. She lived in Newmarket for 52 years.
A graduate of Laconia High School, she received a bachelor's in music from Syracuse University. She taught music for 17 years at Newmarket Elementary School, retiring in 1983. She then taught part-time for the Exeter School District in both Exeter and Newfields.
An active member of the Newmarket Community Church, she was choir director for many years and was a member of the Deaconate, Trustees, and the Parish Circle, among others.
She sang with the Seacoast Singers, was a docent at the American Independence Museum, and was a volunteer at the Newmarket Public Library.
Her family was most important to her and she also enjoyed quilting, sewing, and reading.
The widow of Philip B. Mitchell, who died March 2, 2000, she is survived by three sons, Philip Mitchell Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Newmarket, Robert D. Mitchell and his wife, Valerie, also of Newmarket, and Alan S. Mitchell and his wife, Melissa, of Derry; two daughters, Susan Noseworth and her husband, Gary, of Newmarket; and Judith Mitchell, also of Newmarket; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one niece.
She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Simpson.
MITCHELL - Helen S. Mitchell, 77, of Bald Hill Road, Newmarket, N.H., died July 1, 2001. A memorial gathering will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket.
