Rae Philice Burt
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for R. Philice Burt of Eliot, Maine, who died April 20, 2001, were held Monday afternoon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Brother Norman Vetter conducted the services. Thelma Remick was organist along with chorister, Alice Ayer.
Prayers and words of remembrance were offered by James Hurst, Jean Harford, Annette Andrews, Dell Fox, Evelyn Olsen and members of her family.
A graveside committal service and burial followed in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Eliot. Pallbearers were Aaron Fuller, Richard Fuller, Joel Verrill, Raymond Almond, John Harrison and Lloyd Burt Jr. A time of sharing and refreshments followed the services. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home of Kittery.
Lois K. Meaney
DANVILLE, N.H. - Mrs. Lois K. (Johnson) Meaney, 82, of 12 Kingston Road, a native and lifelong resident of Danville, died Sunday evening, April 22, 2001, at Exeter Hospital.
Educated in Danville public schools and at the former Sanborn Seminary in Kingston, she worked as a stitcher in the local shoe industry. At the time of her retirement, she was employed at the former LeMar Shoe Co. in Haverhill, Mass.
She was a member of the Danville Baptist Church and the Women's Auxiliary of the Carl Davis Post of the American Legion, Plaistow.
She enjoyed crocheting and working on puzzles and solitaire.
The wife of Edward F. Meaney Sr., who died in 1996, she is survived by a daughter, Karen Anderson and her husband, Arthur, of Atkinson; two sons, Edward F. Meaney Jr. and his wife, Sharon, of Fremont, and Robert C. Meaney and his companion, Patricia Capazzi, of Danville; a sister, Helen Bybee of Danville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
MEANEY - Mrs. Lois K. (Johnson) Meaney, 82, died April 22, 2001. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Brookside Chapel and Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Danville. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday (tonight) at the funeral home. John M. Groux
NEWMARKET - John M. Groux, 51, of 24 Moonlight Drive, formerly of Stratham, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at his home.
Born Nov. 19, 1949, in Newport, R.I., he was the son of Albert J. Groux of Burke, Va., and Evelyn T. (Comcowich) Groux of Newmarket.
He lived in West Springfield, Va., and was a graduate of West Springfield High School. He moved to Stratham in 1989 and recently moved to Newmarket.
He was a store manager for Caldor Department Store in Saugus, Mass., before retiring due to his illness. Before this, he worked for People's Drug Store, Bradlee's and Menco Department stores.
Through all of his struggles with his illness, he was always thinking of everyone else.
In addition to his parents, family members include his wife of 28 years, Elizabeth H. (Dennis) Groux of Newmarket; two daughters, Laura E. Groux of Grove City, Ohio, and Carolyn A. Groux of Newmarket; two sisters, Jan Bova of Dover and Elizabeth Tipton of Falls Church, Va.; two nieces and one nephew; and two great-nieces.
GROUX - John M. Groux, 51, of 24 Moonlight Drive, Newmarket, formerly of Stratham, died April 22, 2001. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Newmarket Community Church, Main Street, Newmarket. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family requests no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to Seacoast Hospice, 10 Hampton Road, Exeter, NH 03833. Arrangements are by the Stockbridge Funeral Home, Exeter.
Frances T. Gile
YORK, Maine - Frances T. Gile, 78, of 181 Old Post Road, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at her home after an illness.
Born Jan. 4, 1923, in North New Portland, Maine, she was the daughter of Erland E. Tripp and Agnes (Lamkin) Tripp.
She attended beauty school in Lewiston, and worked for a brief time as a cosmetologist after her move in 1941 to York, where she met and married her late husband, Ralph W. Gile, on Aug. 8, 1942.
She worked as a volunteer at York Hospital. She was an avid gardener and traveler to Hawaii.
Survivors include one daughter, Christal E. Gile, of Durham, N.H.; one son, Corey E. Gile of Eliot; her nephew, Daniel Gile of York; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
GILE - Frances T. Gile, 78, of York, Maine, died April 22, 2001. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2001, in the gardens she created and loved at 181 Old Post Road. Donations may be made to York Hospital Homecare, York Hospital, York, ME. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.
Sylvia B. Moulton
HAMPTON - Largely attended services for Sylvia B. Moulton, 76, who died April 17, 2001, were held Saturday at the United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Carroll C. Moore, pastor, officiated. Mary Oliver was organist. Music was provided by the bell choir under the direction of Elizabeth Barcomb and hymns were offered by the church choir under the direction of Robert Howard.
Among those in attendance were relatives, friends, Hampton town employees representing several departments of the town of Hampton, employees of the Hampton District Court and members of The First Baptist Church of Hampton.
Burial was in Central Cemetery, Epping, with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Moore. Pallbearers were, Stephen Valiquet, Melissa Valiquet, Robert Fabich Jr., Justin Moulton, Tim Michael and Charles Brower.
Services were also conducted at the Remick and Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory on Thursday evening by Tide Mill Chapter No. 67 O.E.S.
Albert H. Huntoon Jr.
FAIRHOPE, Ala. - Mr. Albert H. Huntoon Jr., 89, a native of Kittery, Maine, and a resident of Fairhope, Ala., for 26 years, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at a health-care facility in Fairhope.
He was a past member of the Naval Masonic Lodge in Kittery, and was retired from the U.S. government.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Huntoon of Fairhope, Ala.; two sons, Albert Huntoon of Wakefield, N.H., and Harry Huntoon of Monroe, Ohio; one daughter, Carolyn Mitchell of Simi Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Fiore of Kittery, Maine, and Ruth Sadowsky of Portsmouth, N.H.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Sadye F. Schwartz
PORTSMOUTH - Mrs. Sadye (Freaman) Schwartz, 91, wife of Louis Schwartz, of 55 Lafayette Road, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at Seacoast Health Center in Hampton.
Born Oct. 8, 1909, in Somersworth, she was the daughter of the late Henry B. and Annie (Rubin) Freaman.
A graduate of Dover High School, she was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a degree in sociology.
She was a member of Temple Israel in Portsmouth, and was active speaker for the National Council of Jewish Women and other Jewish organizations.
She gave various book reviews.
She was a member of Rivermouth Chapter No. 54, Order of Eastern Star, of Portsmouth.
In addition to her husband, survivors include two sons, Donald Schwartz of Marblehead, Mass., and Robert Schwartz of Los Altos, Calif.; two grandchildren, Deborah Schwartz and Jennifer Schwartz; one sister, Esther Lobel of Chestnut Hill, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
SCHWARTZ - Mrs. Sadye (Freaman) Schwartz, 91, of 55 Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, died April 22, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Temple Israel, 200 State, St., Portsmouth. Friends invited. No visiting hours. Arrangements by J. Verne Wood Funeral Home.
Brian S. Reardon
PORTSMOUTH - A graveside committal service for Brian Sean Reardon, who died on Feb. 16, 2001, was held on Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth. Father Timothy O'Donnell of the Immaculate Conception Church of Portsmouth officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home of Kittery, Maine.
Ralph L. Brown
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Ralph Leonard Brown, 98, of 795 Washington Road, Rye, were held on Monday at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth. The Rev. Donald Gum, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Portsmouth, officiated. Burial was in New Town Cemetery in Rollinsford, with committal services by the Rev. Gum.
Mildred Friedman
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Mildred (Finegold) Friedman, 82, of 10 Stratham Lane, Stratham, were held on Tuesday from J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, with services at Temple Israel, Portsmouth. Rabbi David Mark officiated. Words of remembrance were given by her daughter, Tobey Harmon.
In attendance were members of the temple.
Burial was in Temple Israel Cemetery, Portsmouth, with committal services by Rabbi Mark.
Bearers were Gavin Archibald, Coleman O'Connor, Jeffrey Friedman and Michael Finegold.
Vivian S. Hinkley
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Vivian Smith Hinkley, 85, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Largo Medical Center. She was born in Manchester, N.H., and was a homemaker.
She was a past national president of the National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor; a past state president of the National Society of Colonial Dames XVII Century; and a member of the D.A.R. of St. Petersburg.
Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Haslam and Judith Covey, both of Greenland, N.H.; two sisters, Natalie Bunker of Conway, N.H., and Janet Tatro of Redwood City, Calif.; two brothers, Glenn Smith of Portsmouth, N.H., and Galen Smith of York, Maine; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
William B. Leach
PORTSMOUTH - William B. Leach, 80, the husband of A. Louise (Dore) Leach, of 8 Winchester St., died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Born in East Bridgewater, Mass., on March 9, 1921, he was a son of the late Charles A. and Marjorie (Forsythe) Leach. He was a graduate of East Bridgewater High School and attended Hackley on the Hudson in New York.
He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He was a longtime employee of the grocery industry and owned and operated IGA stores in Lisbon Falls, Maine, and later worked at the Pease Air Force Base Commissary.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, the Senior Friends at Portsmouth Regional Hospital, AARP, Prime Time, St. John's Lodge No. 1 F&AM of Portsmouth, Scottish Rite Bodies of the Valley of Portsmouth and Dover, N.H. Consistory 32 degree of Nashua, Bektash Shrine, and the Frank E. Booma Post No. 6 of the American Legion. He loved to go fishing.
Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, William O. Leach and his wife, Pamela G. Leach, of Gray, Maine, and Ronald B. Leach of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters, Susan Wysocki and her husband, John, of Beverly Farms, Mass., and Sharon Zuckerman and her husband, Steven, of Plainfield, N.H.; four grandchildren, Shawna Leach of Phoenix, Ariz., Shelbee Mares of Taos, N.M., Matthew Wysocki of Beverly Farms, Mass., and Alexandra Zuckerman of Plainfield, N.H.; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Berry of La Mesa, Calif., and Marion Durrell of Brookings, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Charles, John, Frank, Harry and Fred; and two sisters, Thelma Smith and Marjorie Bratti.
LEACH - William B. Leach, 80, of 8 Winchester St., Portsmouth, died April 22, 2001. Masonic services by St. John's Lodge No. 1 F&AM will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. John's Episcopal Church, 105 Chapel St., Portsmouth, with memorial services following. Friends are invited. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Portsmouth Regional Home Health and Hospice, 95 Albany St., Portsmouth, NH 03801. Arrangements are by J. John Sinnott
SOUTHBURY, Conn. - John Sinnott, 87, of 356-C Heritage Village, died Friday, April 20, 2001, of cardiac arrest at his home.
Born in Mount Vernon, N.Y., on Aug. 5, 1913, he was the son of Cecile Cook Sinnott and Joseph Sinnott, M.D. He graduated from Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, N.J., and attended Brown University.
After World War II, he lived in Chicago, later relocating to Crystal Lake, Ill. He joined the sales force of Holliston Mills Co., a book-binding materials company in Norwood, Mass., and became vice president and sales manager. During his career with Holliston, he lived in North Scituate and East Dennis, Mass., and St. Louis, Mo.
His avocation was golf, and he was a club champion for a number of years in the 1950s and 1960s at the Evanston, Barrington Hills, and Crystal Lake country clubs in Illinois.
He leaves his wife, Helen Black; three children, John William Sinnott of Redding, Conn., Nancy Sinnott Dwight of Lyme, N.H., and Susan Sinnott Wackman of Eliot, Maine; six grandchildren, Virginia and Laura Sinnott, Chris and Helen Dwight, and Nathaniel and Lucy Wackman; and several nieces and nephews, including Cliff Sinnott of Exeter, N.H., director of the Rockingham County Planning Commission.
SINNOTT - John Sinnott, 87, of Southbury, Conn., died Friday, April 20, 2001. The funeral service will be private. Memorial gifts may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 16 Church St., Waterbury, CT 06702. The Munson-Loveterre Funeral Home in Woodbury, Conn., is in charge of the arrangements.
William J. Seiler
NOTTINGHAM - William J. Seiler, known to friends and family as "Sy," died at Portsmouth Regional Hospital on Jan. 22, 2001. He was 89.
He was the son of Oscar and Edith (Holmes) Seiler of Norwalk, Conn.
He and his wife, Nome Thomas Seiler, owned and operated the Nome Seiler Resort Wear Shops. The company had shops in the Florida Keys, Cape Cod, Hampton Beach and their favorite location - The Wentworth By The Sea Hotel in New Castle - until its closing in 1982.
He and his wife made their permanent home in Nottingham. Upon retirement, they became avid farmers and started Merry Hill Farms Antiques.
He was a lifelong athlete and avid golfer. He was a member of the Nippo Lake Golf Club and the Wentworth Fairways. His shelves are filled with club championship trophies.
He is survived by his son, Thomas; his daughter, Judith Kniffen of Norwalk, Conn.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service and interment will be held in May in Bristol, Vt.
