Louis Pazzanese

STRATHAM - Louis Pazzanese, 83, of 127 Stratham Heights Road, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Exeter Hospital.

Born Feb. 18, 1918, in Haverhill, Mass., he was the son of the late John and Carmen (Quaglia) Pazzanese. He lived in Haverhill for most of his life and attended schools there, moving to Stratham 22 years ago.

He was a shop foreman for the former Welpro Co. in Seabrook. Before this, he worked for several shoe shops in the Haverhill area.

A Navy veteran, he served in the Seabees and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 32 of Exeter.

He enjoyed ballroom dancing, gardening and spending time at the beach.

He was the youngest of 11 children and the only child to be born in America.

He was the husband of Winifred M. (Roberts) Pazzanese of Stratham.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one daughter, Joanne Emery of Groveland, Mass.; one stepson, Peter Chapman of Stratham; two stepdaughters, Patricia E. O'Shea of East Kingston and Prudence E. Underwood of Exeter; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

PAZZANESE - Louis Pazzanese, 83, of 127 Stratham Heights Road, Stratham, died April 4, 2001. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Stockbridge Funeral Home, 141 Epping Road, Exeter. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family requests no visiting hours and flowers please be omitted. If desired, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, NH Memorial Processing Center, P.O. Box 31160, Hartford, CT 06150-1160.

Leonard Blakeslee Emerson

PORTSMOUTH - Leonard Blakeslee Emerson, 90, a resident of York Harbor, Maine, and Portsmouth, formerly of Framingham, Mass., and Alton, died suddenly Friday, April 6, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after an emergency admission.

He was born in Alton Bay, where his father, Willis Parker Emerson, owned Emerson's General Store. He attended the Hillsboro School in Marlborough, Mass., and the Choate School in Connecticut and was awarded an art scholarship to college in Massachusetts. In his youth, he worked as a designer for the Hudson Motor Car Company in Detroit, Mich. Later, he joined the Raytheon Company in Massachusetts as a design engineer, remaining with the company for about 30 years. He received several patents for his original work at Raytheon and consulted for a few years following his retirement. He was involved with many civic organizations in Massachusetts and was a past president of the Framingham Lions Club. He created the design for Framingham's fund-raising "Town with a Heart" pin and was active in local militiamen activities and various charities.

Although his occupation exempted him from service during World War II, he volunteered to enlist, serving in photo intelligence in the Asiatic-Pacific theater, working with a team of noted photographers including Cornell Capa. For his wartime service in the United States Army Air Force, he was awarded several ribbons and citations, including four bronze battle stars. His hobbies were fishing and hunting in New England. His first wife, Marguerite Hayes Emerson, predeceased him in 1981. Survivors include his companion of 20 years, Rose Safran of York Harbor, and his nephew, Willis Parker Emerson of Sudbury, Mass.

Anna M. Hubbard

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Anna M. Hubbard, 92, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in Gracedale-Nazareth, Pa. She was the widow of Ray E. Hubbard, who died April 4, 1963. She was born on Aug. 19, 1908, in Portsmouth, daughter of the late James MacWilliams and Sarah (Kilduff) MacWilliams.

She was a homemaker and was past president of the YWCA widows club from 1970 to 1973.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne H. Hammersmith of Bethlehem; and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Michael J. Hubbard, in 1990.

Memorials in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2121 City Line Road, Allentown, PA 18109-0127. Services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Mildred M. Walton

PORTSMOUTH - Memorial services for Mildred M. "Muffy" Walton, 92, of 191 South Street, were held from J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Tuesday, with services at the North Congregational Church Parish House Chapel. The Rev. Dawn Shippe, pastor, officiated. Malcolm Austin was organist.

In attendance were members of the church, including representatives from the Nearly New Shop. Also in attendance were representatives from the Portsmouth Athenaeum.

Burial will be in Proprietor's Cemetery, Portsmouth, at the convenience of the family.

John C. Argue

HAMPTON - The funeral for John C. Argue, 46, of Hampton, was held Tuesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. A Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church was concelebrated by the Rev. George E. Ham, pastor, principal celebrant; the Rev. Michael J. Griffin, senior priest; and the Rev. John V. Moran, former pastor of St. Theresa Church in Rye Beach. Nelson K. Ward was organist, and Patricia Mackensen was soloist. Altar servers were members of the Holy Name Society. Maureen Ebner and Daniel Argue offered the readings. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, with the Rite of Committal conducted by the Rev. Ham. Pallbearers were his eight brothers.

Nona V. Ramsey

SOMERSWORTH - Funeral services for Nona V. (Sessions) Bolstridge Ramsey, 75, of Pinecrest Drive, were held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, Portsmouth, on Tuesday. The Rev. Donald Gum, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church, officiated.

Isoline Fernald

ELIOT, Maine - Isoline "Irma" Fernald, 92, of 33 Farmer Road, died Monday, April 9, 2001, at the Homestead in Kittery, Maine.

Born in South Berwick, Maine, on April 1, 1909, she was a daughter of Lorenzo and Sadie (Knight) Clough and attended local schools.

She and her husband, Lawrence L. Fernald, settled in Eliot and raised their family. She will be fondly remembered by her dear, caring friends at the Homestead, who will greatly miss her and the cheery songs she often sang.

She is survived by her daughter, Mildred I. (Fernald) Hoyt and her husband, Walter, of Eliot; her son, Roland and his wife, Barbara Fernald, of Eliot; her grandchildren, Joanne and Jay Muzeroll, Michael and Tracy Hoyt, Thomas and Leslie Hoyt, Dana and Elizabeth Hoyt, Brian Hoyt, Pamela Keefer, and Glen and Karen Fernald; thirteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

FERNALD - Isoline I. Fernald, 92, of 33 Farmer Road, Eliot, Maine, died April 9, 2001, at the Homestead in Kittery, Maine. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2001, in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot. Family flowers only. Donations are requested in her memory to the Homestead Resident Activity Fund, c/o Hannah, 459 U.S. Route 1, Kittery, ME 03904. Arrangements are by the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, Maine.

Barbara L. Coghill

GULF BREEZE, Fla. - Barbara Louise (Whitehouse) Coghill, formerly of Portsmouth, died April 4, 2001.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Kettig Sering Coghill Sr., a retired Navy chief petty officer and World War II veteran of the submarine service; and two brothers, Forest and Joseph Whitehouse.

She was born on November 15, 1924, in Portsmouth to Leon and Elvira (Langdon) Whitehouse.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her brother, Phillip Rowe; her sister, Connie Knudtson; her daughters, Mary Jo and husband Terry Hall, Bradleigh Santiago, and Virginia (Ginger) and husband Billie Head; her sons, Kettig Jr. and wife Maria Coghill, Roy Coghill, and George and Pam Coghill; her grandchildren, Bradley and Dr. George Hall, Tammy and Tasha Coghill, Tiffany, Roy Jr. (J.R.) and Elizabeth Coghill, Stephanie Santiago, Barbara (Barbie), Pauline and Billie Jr. (B.J.) Head; and George Jr., Martha and Kettig Coghill; and her great-grandchildren, Rex, Jessica and Kieran Hall.

Burial was at Barrancas National Cemetery on Monday, April 9, 2001, at Pensacola Naval Station.

Paul F. Shea

EXETER —Paul F. Shea, 78, of 11 Boulder Brook Drive, died April 5, 2001, at Exeter Healthcare after a four-year battle with cancer.

He was born July 17, 1922, in Manchester, son of the late Elmer John and Marion Farnham Shea.

A 1941 graduate of Central High School, he attended Kents Hill School and the Maine Maritime Academy, thereafter being commissioned an ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

From 1943 until the end of World War II, he served on an amphibious transport as boat commander and ship's navigator as first lieutenant. On D-day he landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, with the first-wave troops. Also, he participated in the invasions of southern France and Okinawa, landing at Sasebo, Japan, with the occupation troops. Following an honorable discharge, he attended the University of New Hampshire, receiving a B.A. degree in economics in 1951.

He joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a special agent in 1951, serving for 27 years in Detroit, Philadelphia, New York City and at the Washington, D.C. headquarters, assigned to Special Inquiry, Domestic Intelligence, Inspection and Records Management.

Employed by Delta Air Lines in corporate security for 15 years until his 1992 retirement, he was primarily responsible for international airline security and investigations in Europe and the Far East.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Elizabeth MacAskill Shea of Exeter and Melvin Village; three sons, Jeffrey Shea of Albuquerque, N.M., Jonathan Shea of Tampa, Fla., and Todd Shea of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one sister, Marion Hartstein of Tampa, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews; seven extended-family sons and daughters; and six grandchildren. Two brothers predeceased him, Jeffrey and Richard Shea.

SHEA - Paul F. Shea, 78, of Exeter, died April 5, 2001. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, in the Congregational Church Chapel, Exeter, with the Rev. Jane Geffken Henderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: The Paul F. Shea Memorial Fund, University of New Hampshire Foundation, Elliott Alumni Center, 9 Edgewood Road, Durham, NH 03824-9987. Arrangements are being handled by the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter.

Jerome J. Fishbein

HAVERHILL, Mass. - Jerome J. Fishbein, 75, of Haverhill died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at the Haverhill Municipal Hale Hospital.

He was born in Haverhill on Jan. 10, 1926, son of the late David R. Fishbein and Lena Bord.

He was a lifelong resident of Haverhill, graduating from Haverhill High School, Class of 1943. He attended Norwich University, prior to serving in the U.S. Army as a sergeant stationed in Europe during World War II.

He worked at his family business, Hudson's Apparel of Haverhill, which was located on Merrimack Street for more than 70 years. He was a member and past president of Temple Emanu-El; member and former director of the Chamber of Commerce; member and served on the board of directors at the Haverhill Golf and Country Club; and member of B'nai B'rith, the Masonic Lodge, and the Jewish War Veterans.

In addition to his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Adele L. (Ornsteen) Fishbein of Haverhill, he is survived by two sons and their wives, Stanley S. Fishbein and Thalia of Manhattan, N.Y., and Robert E. Fishbein and Ellie of North Andover; a daughter and her husband, Susan D. and Steven Plausteiner of Brownsville, Vt.; brothers Arnold L. Fishbein and Elliott B. Fishbein, both of Portsmouth, N.H.; sister Sandra B. Channen of Haverhill; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

FISHBEIN - Jerome J. Fishbein, 75, beloved husband for 53 years of Adele L. (Ornsteen) Fishbein, and a lifelong resident of Haverhill, Mass., died April 11 in Haverhill. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral at 11 a.m. on Friday at Temple Emanu-El, 514 Main St., Haverhill (exit 51A off Rte. 495). A memorial period will be observed Saturday evening through Monday evening at the family's home, 60 Woodland Park Drive, Haverhill. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 180 Rustcraft Road, Dedham, MA 02026, or to Temple Emanu-El, 514 Main St., Haverhill, MA 01830. Burial will be in the Children of Israel Cemetery, Haverhill. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill/Bradford.

Mildred E. Guiggey

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine - Mildred E. Guiggey, 96, widow of the late Robert M. Guiggey of Presque Isle, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at the Presque Isle Nursing Home.

She was born July 1, 1904, the daughter of Howard B. and Marcia H. Everett at Maysville, a settlement located about five miles north of Presque Isle. She graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1921 and Farmington Normal School in 1923, and taught school for a brief period of time.

She married Robert M. Guiggey of Westfield on Sept. 16, 1927.

During the later period of the 1930s she was employed as a correspondent for the Bangor Daily News, covering the Presque Isle area.

She entered into a profession from which she would retire in the fall of 1969, following 30 years of a rewarding career with the United States Postal Department. Widowed on March 28, 1961, she filled her life with numerous activities and interests, personal as well as in association with family members and friends.

She was an active member of the Bethany Baptist Church from its beginning in the early 1950s. She was a member of the Lunar Chapter No. 126, Order of the Eastern Star, for many years; a member of the American Baptist Women's Association and the Women's Christian Temperance Union; and was a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She always enjoyed being with her family.

Among her many interests were sewing, knitting, reading, rug making, oil painting and candlepin bowling.

Remaining in her home until November 1997, she found it necessary to move into an assisted-living apartment.

She is survived by two sons, John and his wife, Connie, of Woburn, Mass., and Robert and his wife, Gloria, of Topsfield, Mass; one daughter, Rowena and her husband, Herb Johnson, of Portsmouth, N.H.; six grandchildren, Debra Turner of Woburn, Mass., John B. Guiggey of Rochester, N.Y., Elizabeth Komisarek of Exeter, N.H., Jeffrey M. Guiggey of No. Dartmouth, Mass., Mark L. Johnson of Richmond, Va., and Adam M. Johnson of Portsmouth; two step-grandchildren, George Johnson of San Antonio, Texas, and Linda Sue Goodwin of Livermore, Maine; four great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Widdowson of Largo, Fla.; a brother, Charles E. Everett of Waldoboro, Maine; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Guerrette and her husband, Raphael, of Caribou, Maine, and Doris Guiggey of Westfield, Maine; one brother-in-law, Kermit Bridges of Mars Hill, Maine; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, T. Earle Everett; two sisters, Florence Goodwin and Clara Conklin; two stepsisters, Mae E. Chandler and Minnie Isabella E. Hone.

Always enjoying her visits with family members, traveling was always enjoyable, especially her European tour in the spring of 1963. Twice she was able to enjoy the beauty of Hawaii.

Services will be held later in the spring.

Alan C. Marston

NEWMARKET - Alan C. Marston, 60, of Bass Street, died Wednesday, April 11, 2001, at his home after a brief illness.

Born Aug. 25, 1940, in Newburyport, Mass., he was the son of the late Curtis D. and Louise (Webb) Marston.

He graduated from high school in Hampton and lived in the Seacoast area and in Newmarket for the past fifteen years.

For 22 years he owned and operated Alan Marston's Body Shop in Newmarket.

He built a race car and participated in both street and dirt drag racing.

He enjoyed boating and was a member of Cove Yacht Club in Naples, Fla., in the Thomas Point Yacht Club. He was also a member of the Owls Head Transportation Museum in Owls Head, Maine.

Alan started Seacoast Corvette in Hampton, sponsored a Little Mule League team in Newmarket, contributed to the Exeter Children's Fund and was a past president and board member of the River Ridge Condominium Association. He also enjoyed working in his flower garden.

Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Elizabeth (Afflick) Marston of Newmarket; five children, Michael A. Marston and his wife, Lori, of Dover, Del., Leisa M. Marelli and her husband, Gary, of Baker, Fla., Pamela Ruesswick and her husband, Glenn, in Kittery Point, Maine, Gregory Stone and his wife, Donna, of Colebrook and Bryan Stone of Concord; and 13 grandchildren.

MARSTON - Alan C. Marston, 60, of Bass Street, Newmarket, died April 11, 2001. Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Kent & Pelczar Funeral Home, 77 Exeter St., Newmarket. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Coover officiating. Allen R. Michaud

EXETER - The funeral for Allen R. Michaud, 69, of 119 Linden St., was held Wednesday from the Stockbridge Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Michael's Church, Exeter. The Rev. Marc Drouin, pastor, was the celebrant. Denise Kelly was the organist and Jennifer Gaines was the soloist.

Alter servers were Joseph Latour, Al Markey and Joseph Blancato. The pall was placed on the casket by Mr. Michaud's children. The gifts were presented to the alter by Diana Gaffny and Jacquelyn Donell. Burial followed in the Exeter Cemetery, with committal prayers by Father Drouin.

Pallbearers were Ed Nichols, Ted Nichols, Andy Nichols, Joe Michaud, Kent Michaud and George Morrisette.

Robert L. Peterson

PORTSMOUTH - Robert L. Peterson, 78, formerly of Portsmouth, died April 6, 2001, at the Parkland Medical Center in Derry.

Born in Portsmouth on Feb. 15, 1923, he was a son of Frank and Essie (Caswell) Peterson and was a resident here for most of his life.

He was employed by the Portsmouth School Department and later worked as a courier for local businessmen.

He is survived by a daughter, Katherine Speiss of Alexandria, Va.; a sister, Helen Bailey of Portsmouth; a brother, Richard Peterson of Concord; two nieces; and one nephew.

PETERSON - Robert L. Peterson, 78, formerly of Portsmouth, died April 6, 2001. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday at Harmony Grove in the South Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Arrangements are by the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth, N.H.
