Helen H. Pridham
BRADENTON, Fla. - Helen H. (Vennard) Pridham, 89, formerly of Portsmouth, N.H., died Tuesday, April 3, 2001.
She was the wife of Eliton Vennard, who predeceased her in 1969.
She was born in Portsmouth, moving to Panama City, Fla., in 1972; to Largo in 1982 and to Bradenton in 1997.
She was a contract administrator for the U.S. Navy Department at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 23 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Bette G. Karolkiewicz of Bradenton; a sister, Betty L. Peterson of Sun City Center; and a grandson, Edward Karolkiewicz of Bradenton.
PRIDHAM - Helen H. (Vennard) Pridham, 89, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Portsmouth, died April 3, 2001 in Bradenton. There will be no visiting hours. Estelle Reardon
HAMPTON - The funeral for Estelle Reardon, 79, of the Mark H. Wentworth Home, Portsmouth, formerly of Rye, was held Tuesday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. Services were held at the Bethany Church, Greenland. The Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Dietrich, pastor, officiated. Words of remembrance were offered by several family members. The soloist was Jill Pickering. Jan Stover was the organist.
Burial was in the Central Cemetery, Rye, with committal services conducted by the Rev. Dietrich. Pallbearers were Tim Pickering, Greg Pickering, Joseph Kenney and Robert R. Reardon.
Joyce James Gibbs
NEWMARKET - Joyce James Gibbs, 69, of 28 North Main St., died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. She died peacefully at home after a long illness, surrounded by the love and support of her family and her large circle of friends.
Joyce was born in Dearborn, Mich., the daughter of Evelyn and DeWitt Young. Under the name Joyce James, she was a member of the Womenfolk, a five-woman folk music group that performed and recorded in the U.S. and Europe in the 1950s and 1960s. She worked with Theodore Bikel, Pete Seeger, Eric Weissberg, Malvina Reynolds and other folk music icons, and was the host of "Around the Corner," a popular CBS children's television program.
She lived in California and Greenwich Village, N.Y., then moved to the Boerum Hill section of Brooklyn, N.Y., where she lived from 1969 to 1986. In Brooklyn she became a neighbor-hood activist and promoter. She created and managed the first 10 years of the Atlantic Antic, a 10-block September street fair that has become a Brooklyn institution.
In 1986, Joyce and her son Josh moved to Newmarket. She joined the Seacoast folk music community, performing with local and national musicians in a 1987 Hootenanny at The Music Hall of Portsmouth, and at other local venues.
She was active in town affairs and served on the Newmarket Water Commission from 1989 to 1991.
In 1990, she became the administrative secretary of the University of New Hampshire President's Commission on the Status of Women, in Durham, and held that job until she retired in 1996. That year, she was the first recipient of the Joyce Gibbs Award, created in her honor. This year's Women's Commission awards ceremony will be dedicated to her memory.
Joyce was a student at the UNH College of Lifelong Learning, where she received her bachelor's, cum laude, in women's studies in December 2000.
She was an active member of the First Unitarian Society of Exeter; she was also a follower of pagan earth- and goddess-centered practices. She was a proud and committed feminist.
Joyce is survived by her son, Joshua L. Gibbs of Newmarket; a niece, Marty Young Arcel of Whitefish, Mont.; and many close friends.
A gathering to remember Joyce will be held at the First Unitarian Society of Exeter, 12 Elm St., on Monday, April 9, at 5:30 p.m. A celebration of her life and scattering of her ashes is planned for later this year.
Donations in Joyce's memory may be made to Seacoast Hospice, the Feminist Health Center of Greenland, or the Newmarket Public Library.
Throughout her life, but particularly in the past several years, Joyce was the support and anchor for a wide circle of students, activists and others in the UNH and Seacoast communities. She leaves an empty space in many hearts.
Irene E. Gallant
YORK, Maine - Irene E. (Dionne) Gallant, 88, formerly of Cain Crest Park, York, died Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Edgewood Centre in Portsmouth, after a long illness.
Born Jan. 21, 1913, in Fall River, Mass., she was the daughter of Ludger and Virginia Dionne and attended schools in New Haven, Conn., and Brunswick, Maine.
She was a communicant of St. Christopher-by-the-Sea Church of York and was a member of the church Sacristan for more than 30 years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, cooking and caring for animals.
She was predeceased by her husband, John J. Gallant, who died in 1991.
Survivors include two sons, Arthur J. Gallant of Portsmouth, N.H.; and John M. Gallant of North Carolina; one daughter, Betty Hooper of Sanford; three brothers, Roland Dionne and Edward Dionne, both of Bath, and Henry Dionne of Bar Harbor; one sister, Dorlidia Shea of Somerville, Mass.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
GALLANT - Irene E. (Dionne) Gallant, 88, formerly of York, Maine, died April 3, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, in St. Christopher Church, York St., York. Visiting hours are today (Thursday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Lucas & Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Mary L. Meehan
PORTSMOUTH - Mary Louise Meehan, 62, of 13 Taft Road, died Tuesday April 3, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Duluth, Minn., March 9, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Francis Fish and Margaret (Paukner) Poferl. She was a graduate of Stanbrook Hall in Duluth with the Class of 1957. She worked as bank bookkeeper for several years before leaving to raise her children.
She attended St. James Church, and enjoyed gardening, reading and attending functions of the Port City Radio Club.
She was the wife of the late David W. Meehan, who died in 1994.
Family members include three children, David Meehan, Colleen Meehan and Katherine Meehan, all of Portsmouth; two brothers, Michael Fish and his wife, Karin, of St. Paul, Minn.; and Patrick Fish and his wife, Carol, of Yuma, Ariz.; three sisters, Kathleen Morrow of St. Paul Park, Minn.; Rosemary Anderson and Margaretanne Fish, both of Cottage Grove, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Eileen Fish of Duluth, Minn.; and aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
MEEHAN - Mary Louise Meehan, 62, of 13 Taft Road, Portsmouth, died April 3, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. James Church, Route 1, Lafayette Road, Portsmouth, on Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Arlene Coolbeth
EAST SPRINGFIELD, Pa. - M. Arlene (O'Brien) Coolbeth, 68, of East Springfield, died Wednesday morning, April 4, 2001, at Pleasant Ridge Manor in Girard.
She was born Oct. 23, 1932, in Somerville, Mass., the daughter of the late George L. O'Brien and Mary F. Buckley Murphy.
She had worked at Hopkins Manufacturing and was a former owner of the Girard Motel. She was a lifetime member of the Girard American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW of West Springfield. She enjoyed traveling and watching car and bike races.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Coolbeth was preceded in death by her stepfather, Joseph G. Murphy; two brothers, George L. O'Brien Jr. of Somerville, Mass.; and James E. O'Brien of Potsdam, N.Y.; and her son-in-law, James C. Griffith of Girard; and her former husband, John E. Holland of Girard.
Mrs. Coolbeth is survived by her husband, Gordon Coolbeth of Dunnellon, Fla.; a son, John Holland Jr. and his wife, Doris, of Girard; three daughters, Judy Sargent and her husband, Al, of Girard; Jane Griffith of Lake City; and Joy Holland and her fiancé, Tom Teribery, of Lake City; two sisters, Florence J. LeBel and her husband, Andy, of Parrishville, N.Y.; and Kathleen M. Martins and her husband, Jack, of North Hampton, N.H.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
At the family's request, there will be no public calling hours. A private family burial will be held in Girard Cemetery.

Morris M. Mack
PORTSMOUTH - Chief Master Sgt. Morris M. Mack, USAF Ret., 80, widower of Ramona (Perkins) Mack, of 248 Ocean Road, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at the Monroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Fla.
He was born in Orleans, N.Y., on May 15, 1920, the son of the late Byron and Ruperta (Larrabee) Mack and attended the LaFargeville High School in LaFargeville, N.Y.
He served in the United States Air Force, retiring after 20 years of service at the rank of chief master sergeant. After retiring, he was employed for civil service at the former Pease Air Force Base.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Portsmouth; Frank E. Booma Post No. 6, American Legion; Emerson Hovey Post No. 168, VFW; and the Piscataqua Chapter No. 4 D.A.V. Newington. He also was an avid outdoorsman.
Survivors include two sons, Michael M. Mack and his wife, Janet, of Greenland, and Marvin M. Mack and his wife, Cathy, of Dover; a daughter, Michelle M. Mack of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Carrie Jubran of Virgil, N.Y.; Michael J. Mack of Greenland; Katie L. Mack of Dover; and Kendra E. Mack of Dover; one great-grandson, Trevor Jubran of Virgil, N.Y.; two brothers, Carl J. Mack of Cape Vincent, N.Y., and Robert Mack of Black River, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by five brothers, Raymond, Edmund, David, Henry and Albert; and a sister, Anna.
MACK - Chief Master Sgt. Morris M. Mack, USAF Ret., 80, of 248 Ocean Road, Portsmouth, died April 2, 2001. Funeral services will be held at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, Sunday at 1 p.m. Friends invited. Visiting hours will be held at the chapel Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m., with American Legion services at 5:45 p.m. by Frank E. Booma Post No. 6.
Josephine Castellano
PORTSMOUTH - Josephine Castellano, 87, of 236 Hillside Drive, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2001, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born on Aug. 18, 1913, in Somerville, Mass., she was the daughter of Erasmo and Assunta (Innaconi) DiDomenico and had been a resident of Portsmouth for the past for the past 60 years.
She was employed for many years at Kimball's Department Store in downtown Portsmouth.
She was a member of St. James Church.
She was the wife of the late John Castellano, who died in 1958.
Survivors include two sons, John J. Castellano of Cape Neddick, Maine; and Charles R. Castellano of Saratoga, Calif.; five grandchildren, Mary Jo Fernanndez, John J. Castellano, David J, Castellano, Anne C. Castellano and Marc J. Castellano; one brother, Vincent Paliotti of St. Augustine, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
CASTELLANO - Josephine Castellano, 87, of 236 Hillside Drive, Portsmouth, died April 4, 2001. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at St. James Church. Friends may visit with the family from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth. Burial in St. Michael Cemetery in Boston.
Maurice F. Blouin
Dover - Maurice F. Blouin, 95, of South Berwick, Maine died in Dover on April 1. He was born in Oakland, Calif. the son of Pierre and Josephine (Denault)Blouin.
Schooled in California and Montreal, Quebec, he began his career in the advertising and public relations industry in the Baltimore/Washington area.
In 1934 he married Carolyn Martindale and they eventually moved to the New York City area where he held a number of positions with advertising agencies and financial institutions.
Nurturing an idea to introduce new visual merchandising techniques to the banking industry and wanting to rear their family in a rural setting, the Blouins moved to South Berwick in 1948 where, together, they founded Maurice F. Blouin, Inc.
Over the years the company grew, marketing its products and services primarily to financial institutions and telephone companies throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Maury Blouin possessed the creativity of an artist, the charisma of a super-salesman, and the drive of an entrepreneur. He belonged to a number of organizations, including the National Association for the Display Industry, the Financial Institutions Marketing Association, the New England Council and the Newcomen Society. He served as a Trustee of The Holderness School for many years.
He enjoyed traveling and gardening. The gardens at his home, Old Joy Farm, were a visual delight to family, friends, neighbors and those just passing by.
His wife died last Nov. and he is survived by a daughter, Deborah of Tempe, Ariz., two sons, Denault of Halifax, Nova Scotia and Craig of Henniker, N.H., and two grandsons.
BLOUIN - Maurice F. Blouin, 95, of South Berwick, Maine died in Dover, N.H. on April 1. Donna Ball
LOS ALAMOS, N.M.— Donna (Richardson) Ball, 57, formerly of Rye, died at home in Los Alamos, N.M. on March 1, 2001.
She was born in Boston but lived in Rye, attending Rye school and graduating from Portsmouth High School in 1961. She moved to Los Alamos in 1978.
Donna is survived by her mother, Laura (Richardson) Maple; three daughters and one grandson; her aunt Adelle Spaulding of Rye and cousins of Rye and Exeter.
Burial was in Los Alamos.
Carroll C. Blaisdell
YORK - Carroll C. Blaisdell, 75, of Southside Road, husband of Jean (Yates) Blaisdell died Thursday at the Kennebunk Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kennebunk.
He was born Jan. 30, 1926 in Portland, Maine, the son of Leon H. and Hildred (Foster) Blaisdell and graduated in 1944 from Falmouth High School.
After serving in the Army during World War II, he attended the University of Maine at Orono.
He was a farmer on Southside Road from 1947 to 1955. He then began the Blaisdell Construction Company in 1955 until 1985 when he semi-retired.
He was a member of the Church at Spruce Creek, Kittery. He had also been a member of the Cape Neddick Baptist Church where he accepted Christ in 1959.
He was active with the Gideons, church affairs and was a board member of the York Volunteer Ambulance Service and York Board of Appeals.
He enjoyed all water sports including boating and swimming.
He was predeceased by his brother, Leon Blaisdell, Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jean (Yates) Blaisdell of York; a son, Stephen W. Blaisdell of Manchester, Maine; two daughters, Susan Martin of Auburn, Maine and Sarah Treat of Wallingford, Vt.; two sisters, Phyllis Flagg of Stratham and Mary Sterling of Savannah, Ga.; and six grandchildren.
BLAISDELL - Carroll C. Blaisdell of Southside Road, York, Maine died Thursday in Kennebunk. Funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Church at Spruce Creek, 31 Wilson Road, Kittery.
