Dorothy J. Peterman
CONCORD - Dorothy J. Peterman, 80, of Alton Woods Drive, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001.
She was the widow of Warren W. Peterman, who died in 1990.
She was the daughter of the late B. Stanley Jordan and Emma (Mason) Jordan. She was born on Nov. 25, 1920, in Jamaica Plains, Mass. She graduated from Brookline High School in Brookline, Mass., in 1939 and graduated from Colby Jr. College, now known as Colby Sawyer College, in 1941.
She had been a summer resident at Nor'East Lane in Hampton for 65 years and a Concord resident for over 50 years.
She was a member of the Rumford-Abigail Webster Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as Regent for three terms.
She was also a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants.
She leaves three daughters: Jane L. Peterman of Attleboro, Mass., Joanne D. Torre of Alamo, Calif., and Judith J. Beaudoin of Portsmouth.
She was beloved by her four grandchildren: Jay M. Torre, Diana T. Torre, Thomas W. Beaudoin and Matthew J. Beaudoin.
Linda M. Ketchum
HAMPTON - The funeral for Linda M. Ketchum, 55, of Hampton, who died Feb. 13, 2001, was held Saturday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. Services were conducted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Exeter. Bishop Russell Curlee conducted the service. Sister Betsy Hersam was organist, and Sister Liz Deane was chorister. Sister Renee Wilkinson offered the invocation. Speakers were Sister Betsy Hersam and Sister Sherrie Rudy. Sister Linda Mary Ketchum offered a poetry reading. Brother Alan Dulong offered the benediction. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Noble, Todd Wilkinson, Dennis Dupuis, Robert Ketchum, Robert Rudy and Michael Rudy.
Alan Frederick (Sonny) Harrison
DOVER - Alan Frederick (Sonny) Harrison died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his loving family, after a valiant three-year battle with colon cancer.
Born Feb. 21, 1932, at 51 Park St. in Dover, he was the son of Frederick and Edna (French) Harrison and was a lifelong resident of Dover and since 1979 a summer resident on Merrymeeting Lake in New Durham.
He graduated from Dover High School in 1950 and from McIntosh College in 1956 with a degree in accounting. He served in the Air Force following high school and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by the former Gendron Lumber Co. as an accountant following his graduation from McIntosh College. He was the former owner of Goodwin Oil Company in Portsmouth. He retired on June 2, 1993. He then worked for the Farmington National Bank in Dover for five years.
He was a communicant and former lector at St. Mary's Church in Dover. He was a former parish council member and was finance committee chairman of the parish until his death, and was active in church functions. He was a former member of the Portsmouth Kiwanis Club, a former member of the Dover Moose and was honored with a lifetime membership at Post No. 8 American Legion.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 41 years, Veronica (McCabe) of Dover; one daughter, Joann Harrison Hebert and her husband, Alan, of Dover; one son, Kevin M. Harrison and his wife, Darcy (Melanson), of Dover; a daughter-in-law, Denise (Acierno) Harrison, of Aurora, Colo.; five grandchildren, Laurie Ann Harrison of Aurora, Colo., Brittany D. Hebert, Elizabeth G. Harrison, Joseph R. Harrison and Courtney E. Harrison, all of Dover; a beloved brother-in-law, Albert Moreau of Dover; three aunts, Mildred Boyle and Dorothy French of Dover and Grace French of Rochester; two nieces, Judy (Moreau) Olson of Dover and Janice (Moreau) Hughes of Milton; as well as many other nieces, nephews and cousins and many wonderful and loving friends.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, Alan Joseph, who died in 1983; his parents, who died in 1947; and three sisters, Mildred Harrison, who died in 1935, Evelyn Harrison, who died in 1972, and Shirley Moreau, who died in 1999.
He was much loved and will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
HARRISON - Alan Frederick (Sonny) Harrison of Dover died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the Tasker Funeral Home, 621 Central Ave., Dover. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Mary's Church, corner of Chestnut and Third streets, in Dover, with the Rev. Fritz Cerullo, OSA, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mary's New Cemetery. Those who wish are invited to make memorials in his name to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 State Route 101, Suite 501, Bedford, NH 03110-5032, or to the charity of one's own choice.
Brian Reardon
AVONDALE, Ariz. - Brian Reardon, 45, formerly of Kittery, Maine, died unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at his home. He was born Oct. 23, 1955, in Portsmouth, the son of Charles and Louise (Maldini) Reardon Jr. He attended local schools and graduated from Traip Academy in Kittery in 1972. He was a former employee of the Seward Construction Company; he left Kittery in 1978 to work in the construction field all over the country, including Alaska, California and, most recently, Arizona. In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, hunting and other outdoor sports and activities. Besides his parents, he is survived by his three brothers, Charles Reardon III, James Reardon and Kevin Reardon, all of Miami, Fla.; a sister, Erin DeBrodt of Ledyard, Conn.; and several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews. He had many friends while growing up and attending schools in the Kittery area, and he will be deeply missed.
REARDON - Brian Reardon, 45, of Avondale, Ariz., and formerly of Kittery, Maine, died unexpectedly on Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at his home. A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Kittery. The Rev. Real Nadeau will be the celebrant. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place in the spring in Calvary Cemetery in Portsmouth. At the family's request, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery.
Reginald F. Jacques
HAMPTON - The funeral for Reginald F. Jacques, 49, of Hampton, who died Feb. 15, 2001, was held Monday from the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church. The Rev. George E. Ham, pastor, was the celebrant. Nelson K. Ward was organist, and Patricia Mackensen was soloist. Altar servers were members of the Holy Name Society. Burial followed in the High Street Cemetery, with the committal service conducted by the Rev. Ham. Pallbearers were John Poirier, Robert Poirier, Luke Murphy, Edward Towle, George Poirier and Larry Slepoy.
Donald J. LeClair Sr.
DOVER - Donald J. LeClair Sr., 66, of Portland Avenue, died Feb. 12, 2001, at the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover. He was born Nov. 13, 1934, in Exeter, son of the late Wilfred S. and Florence (Bailey) LeClair. He served in the U.S. Air Force for 14 years, during which time he received numerous medals. He was employed as an electrician in Shop 67 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 15 years. He also worked in the fiber optics department at Simplex in Newington. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and was a member of the American Legion Post #8 in Dover and Post #32 in Exeter.
He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two sons, Donald J. LeClair Jr. of Barrington and Richard LeClair of Portsmouth; three daughters, Donna LeClair of Portsmouth, Paula Rossi of San Diego, Calif., and Michelle LeClair of Huntsville, Ala.; five grandchildren; four brothers, Richard LeClair of Florida, Edwin LeClair of Berwick, Maine, William LeClair of Raymond, and Daniel LeClair of Dorchester, Mass.; seven sisters, Dorothy Cail of Exeter, Charlotte Croteau of Raymond, Florence Robinson of Arizona, Shirley LeClair of Florida, Sandra Kelleher of Methuen, Mass., Julia Wyman of Florida, and Rose Croteau of Newmarket; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Feb. 19, 2001, at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 8 Pleasant St., Epping.
Paul F. Kenison
CAPE NEDDICK, Maine - Paul F. Kenison, 72, a resident on Libby Lane, died Sunday at York Hospital after a long illness.
He was born on July 22, 1928, in Jefferson, N.H., the son of Frank James and Alice Mary (Blair) Kenison. He attended local schools in Jefferson and Lancaster, N.H.
He was a World War II and Korean War veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant.
He resided in Ogunquit for 32 years before moving to Wells and Cape Neddick.
He was employed by the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in the supply department for 28 years; he retired several years ago.
After his retirement, he volunteered at York Hospital for seven years.
He was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church in York, Maine, a life member and past master of the Ocean Lodge #142 of Wells, Scottish Rite 32 degree Masons of Portland, the Kora Temple of Lewiston, the York County Shrine Club, the Broadman-Ellis V.F.W. Post #6977 of York, American Legion Post #82 of Gorham, N.H., the York Elks #2788 of York and the Madonna Chapter of West Kennebunk, Maine.
He loved deer hunting and had shot many deer over his lifetime.
He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Marie Hannaford Kenison, who died in 1990.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Catherine) Emmons of Plaistow, N.H., Mrs. Scott (Paula) Lucas of Bow, N.H., and Mrs. Charles (Lisa) Monroe of Sanford; a sister, Evelyn K. Smith, of Lancaster, N.H., and four grandchildren.
KENISON - Paul F. Kenison, 72, of Cape Neddick, Maine, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001. Visiting hours will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells, Maine, where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Chapel, with the Rev. Richard Knight and the Rev. Linda Hearst officiating. Burial will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday in Starr King Cemetery in Jefferson, N.H. Should friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the Ocean Lodge Scholarship Fund MCF, c/o The Grand Secretary, P.O. Box 15058, Portland, ME 04112-5058, in his memory. Arrangements are by the Bibber Memorial Chapel, Wells.
Paul R. Lohnes
DURHAM - Paul R. Lohnes, 72, died on Feb. 16, 2001, at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover after a brief illness.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1928, in Lynn, Mass., the son of the late Fred and Helen (Wickenhiser) Lohnes. He was educated at Yale and Harvard universities. He was a professor of educational measurement at the University of Buffalo for 30 years. He spent his summers in Durham and finally retired there.
Family members include his wife of 51 years, Kathleen "Kay" (Mulloy) Lohnes; one son, Benjamin Lohnes of Andover; one daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Mary) Ehrenworth of New York, N.Y.; and one grandson, Jackson Ehrenworth.
Priscilla Franklin
YORK, Maine - Priscilla Franklin, 67, of 20 Cider Hill Road, widow of B.E. "Jack" "Ben" Franklin, died at York Hospital on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, after a lengthy and courageous struggle.
She was born May 5, 1933, in Woburn, Mass., the daughter of Roy and Gertrude (MacDonald) Woodbury. She graduated from Maynard (Mass.) High School in 1951 and attended Framingham (Mass.) Teachers College. She was a great-great-granddaughter of Peter Woodbury, who was a master's mate on the U.S.S. Constitution during the War of 1812.
She worked as a pharmacy technician at York Hospital for twenty years. She also had a real estate broker's license.
She was a member and deaconess at the Union Congregational Church of York Beach and was the editor of "The Light," the church newspaper. She was a den mother and Brownie troop leader from 1967 to 1968. She was a member of the York Hospital Women's Auxiliary and volunteered at many hospital events and picnics. She accompanied her father and was the secretary for the Yankee Division, a group of World War I New England infantry personnel that met monthly in Massachusetts. She was a member of the Seacoast Bowling League. In 1951 she had worked at the candy counter at the Goldenrod.
She loved shopping and taking her granddaughter, Teresa, everywhere with her. She enjoyed watching game shows and her numerous family pets.
She was a member of the Good Sam Club and spent many days with her husband in their motor home. In 1996 they traveled to Alaska, and in 1997 with their granddaughter traveled to Disney World.
She married her husband in the Union Congregational Church on Oct. 3, 1953. He died Jan. 12, 1999. She was also predeceased by a brother, Roy N. Woodbury, who died in October 2000.
Survivors include her son, Scott R. Franklin of York; her daughter, Kimberly H. Cooley, and granddaughter, Teresa A. Woodbury Cooley, both of York; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
FRANKLIN - Priscilla Franklin of Cider Hill Road in York, Maine, died Feb. 15, 2001. Graveside services will be held in the spring at the First Parish Cemetery. Memorial services will be held at the Union Congregational Church of York Beach in the spring. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to the Union Congregational Church of York Beach, P.O. Box 969, York Beach, ME 03910. Arrangements are by Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, York.
Sarah Grace Boyle
HAMPTON - Our beloved infant daughter, Sarah Grace Boyle, was stillborn on Feb. 16, 2001, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
She was the daughter of Stephen H. and Jennifer E. (Corporon) Boyle of Hampton.
In addition to her parents, family members include her brother, Ryan P. Boyle of Hampton; paternal grandparents Hugh and Joyce Boyle of Rye; paternal great-grandmother Irene Gregoire of Derry; maternal grandparents Donald and Evelyn Corporon of Portsmouth; aunts and uncles Sharon and Raymond Gravel, Lauren and Kenneth Kennedy, Karen and Eric Burgon and Susan Boyle; and eight cousins.
Services were private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Alphonsine J. Bellavance
AMESBURY, Mass. - Alphonsine J. Bellavance, 85, of 7 Whittier Ave., died early Tuesday morning, Feb. 20, 2001, at the Anna Jaques Hospital in Newburyport, Mass. Born on March 19, 1915, in St. Edouard, Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (LaGasse) Fournier. She was the wife of the late Albert G. Bellavance Sr., who died in 1999.
A longtime Amesbury resident, she was a well known merchant in town. She and her late husband were proprietors of the High Street Variety Store on High Street and also operated a used furniture store on Market Street. They also managed many rental properties, which they owned. She was employed at CBS Hytron in Newburyport for many years as well. She was a member of the Sacred Heart parish and the St. Anne's Sodality for many years.
She is survived by six sons, Norman Bellavance and his wife, Lorraine, Raymond Bellavance and his dear friend, Claire LeBlanc, and Albert Bellavance Jr., all of Amesbury, Paul Bellavance and his wife, Carol, of Andover, Mass., Robert Bellavance and his wife, Nancy, and Fernand Bellavance and his wife, Rosemary, all of Methuen, Mass.; two daughters, Jeannine St. Germain and her husband, Roland, of Hampton, N.H., and Theresa Cohen and her husband, Donald, of Mashpee, Mass.; one sister, Brigitte Cote, and a sister-in-law, Marguerite Bellavance, both of Amesbury; 17 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Joanne Bellavance.
BELLAVANCE - Alphonsine J. Bellavance, 85, of Amesbury, Mass., died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, in Holy Family Parish's Sacred Heart Church, 67 Friend St., in Amesbury. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the E.V. Jutras & Sons Funeral Home, 118 Friend St., in Amesbury. David Oliver Durand
PORTSMOUTH - David Oliver Durand died on Friday, Feb. 16, 2001. He was born in Burlington, Vt., in 1968, but lived the bulk of his school years in Concord, N.H., where he graduated from high school in 1986. Eventually he settled in Portsmouth, working for several restaurants including Margaritas, the Ferry Landing and Lindbergh's Crossing. He loved the excitement of Portsmouth and found here a multitude of friends and a wealth of support.
His interests were wide-ranging, and he lived a full life. He loved and developed a deep knowledge of music of all sorts. He was equally at home with sounds from his parents' era and those of new local artists. He had found a great deal of pleasure in reggae. He struggled to learn the guitar. He enjoyed trips to Jamaica. He was experimenting with his talents as an artist. He spent much time recently trying to make sense out of his life and attempting to explain the changes he was experiencing. He gave of himself to his many friends. He was loved, and he will be greatly missed.
In addition to his friends, he is survived by his parents, James and Donna of Elk Ridge, Utah; a sister, Nancy Preston, of Allenstown, N.H.; nieces Samantha and Morgan; Barbara and Richard Bruce of Shaftsbury, Vt., and Zephyrhills, Fla.; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
DURAND - David Oliver Durand, of Portsmouth, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001. A brief service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Unitarian Church, 292 State St., Portsmouth. All are welcome to attend. He would be pleased to have you celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that friends make a contribution to a fund set up in his name to benefit workers in the restaurant trade who may not have easy access to mental health support. Judy Kasterke-Larue
ELIOT, Maine - Judy Kasterke-Larue, 55, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 20, 2001, at the York Hospital, in York, Maine. She was born March 14, 1945, in Portsmouth, the daughter of William and Marion (Kittredge) Wyman. She lived all her life in the Kittery, Eliot area, where she attended local schools. For many years she was employed by Prescott Park in Portsmouth as a gardener. This was not just a job, but a passion. She was at her happiest when she was working in the garden. She loved to collect odds and ends and had a flair for creating decorative crafts with them. She also loved yard sales, always finding something to take home. She stood by the old saying "One man's trash is another man's treasure." She had a tremendous sense of humor and spent many hours joking and laughing with her beloved and cherished family and friends. She will be missed dearly by her three feline companions, Peggy, Nora and Abby.
Judy was predeceased by her father, who died in 1992. She is survived by her husband, Maurice Larue, of Eliot, whom she married on Feb. 15, 2001, while in York Hospital. Besides her husband, she is survived by her mother, Marion Kasterke of Kittery, Maine; a son, Ron Kasterke of Key West, Fla.; three daughters, Shelly Brooks of Eliot; Sheila Katsanos of Portsmouth; and Tracy Kasterke of Eliot; a sister, Pat Thompson of York; a brother, Billy Wyman Jr. of Kittery; and several uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.
KASTERKE-LARUE - Judy Kasterke-Larue, 55, of Eliot, Maine, died Tuesday morning, Feb. 20, 2001, at the York Hospital in York, Maine. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, at the Wilson-Cooper Funeral Home, 21 Rogers Road, Kittery, Maine. The Rev. Steve Spearing, pastor of the Hope Community Church of Dover, N.H., will officiate. Visitation hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. The family requests that casual attire be worn when attending the funeral and visitation hours.
Helen A. Rogenski
YORK, Maine - Helen A. Rogenski, 88, of 51 Beech Ridge Road, died Monday, Feb. 19, at York Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 7, 1912, in New Bedford, Mass., the daughter of Albert and Mary (Marchowski) Burda, and attended North Attleboro, Mass., schools.
She had formerly been a manager at a dress shop in Providence, R.I., and the manager at The Valet Shop at the Wentworth-by-the-Sea Hotel in New Castle, N.H. She had resided in the York area for 55 years.
She was a communicant of St. Christopher-by-the-Sea Church of York. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed knitting, crocheting and cooking.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Rogenski, who died in 1974.
Survivors include her daughter, Marsha M. Rogenski, of York, and her brother, Edward Burda, of North Kingston, R.I.
ROGENSKI - Helen A. Rogenski of Beech Ridge Road, York, Maine, widow of Frank Rogenski, died Feb. 19, 2001, in York. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m., Friday, in St. Christopher Church, York Street, York. Interment will be in the spring in First Parish Cemetery. Visiting hours will be from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, at the Lucas and Eaton Funeral Home, 91 Long Sands Road, York. Prayer services will be at 4 p.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
